Topic: How to win an Australian Podcast Award Speaker: Dave Gertler (Organiser, Australian Podcast Awards) We cover: • Eligibility for the 2018 Australian Podcast Awards • Tips for what the judges are looking for • Your ideas and input for our big night! For years, the Australian podcast community was screaming out for its own awards ceremony. This led Dave Gertler to create the Australia Podcast Awards (formerly Cast Away Awards). It began with an idea in 2016, and with the support of the podcast community over the following 12 months, led to a massive celebration of podcast achievement in April 2017. And the Australian Podcast Awards are back in early 2018! Better yet, they'll be hosted in Melbourne!!! Dave is joining us to seek input from the Melbourne Podcasters community to make the awards bigger and better. Bring your questions and ideas! The Cast Aways is an awards night for everyone in podcasting.
Podcasting is a lean-in experience. Listeners are strongly engaged with their favourite podcasts – and that makes podcasting different from radio, says Omny Studio CEO, Sharon Taylor. This engagement can provide unique opportunities for brands to be involved, so long as it's done properly. Sharon offers her ideas on how to incorporate ads into podcasts. And, we discuss Apple's dominance in the world of podcasting, as Sharon explains how to get into Apple's New and Noteworthy section. Also, we speak with Dave Gertler, founder of the Castaway Awards, Australia's first podcast industry awards. He says the strength of the awards is about inclusion, allowing both amateur podcasters and major media companies alike to be nominated. Dave discusses the strength of the Australian podcasting industry and his expectations for the future. Presented by Nick Schildberger and Chris Ashmore of BE Media Production. The opportunity for brands and advertisers in the podcasting space is very healthy as Australian audiences become increasingly aware of the new medium. We speak with Corey Layton of Whooshkaa, who’s very upbeat about the industry and how companies can be creative in conversing with new and existing markets. Corey – and many of the Whooshkaa team – is from a radio background; and, although similarities exist between radio and podcasting, he explains why a radio-type advertisement in a podcast simply doesn’t work. Also this episode we speak with Castaway Awards judge Sophie Kneebone who offers her thoughts on why podcasting resonates so deeply with listeners and why it’s so attractive for advertisers right now. She also looks at what the future of the industry might bring for podcasters and audiences alike.
