Independent films are made with limited budgets and sets but that doesn't mean they are going to be bad. Let's examine some great indies and why we like them. It had some great examples of the mystery movies of the time. And some great performances from a few people you might recognize, such as Lee Van Cleef. Shua has been watching a very retro show on the Shout! Studios YouTube channel called Space: 1999. This was a show, pre-Star Wars that inspired Shua to enjoy sci-fi. You can check it out now, along with some other cool retro shows. Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the cinematic story from the Firefly universe. Serenity came out in 2005 in response to fans of the show that wanted more after its untimely cancellation. The movie also successfully tells a story of a fun western/sci-fi hybrid world. Check it out today! Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy Movies! This week in the United States is Independence Day. A time for the country to celebrate breaking away from a big empire. So this week we look at some filmmakers that break away from big empires of movie studios to do their own thing and get out a story that they are passionate about. Well-known directors such as George Lucas, John Carpenter, George Miller, Kevin Smith, and Quentin Tarantino all got their starts by making small, independent movies. Not all filmmakers garnish as much power as these directors. Some remain small, but no less dedicated to their work. So kick up your feet and put on a movie that you may not have heard of before. Are there independent films you recommend? What makes them enjoyable? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Your loan has been denied” will get a special mention on the show.
