Star Trek: Enterprise, Series 3, Episode 12. First broadcast on Wednesday 14 January 2004. This week, untrustworthy foreigners attack and terrorise Enterprise for literally no reason other than the arbitrary tenets of their weird and incorrect religion. There's a lesson to be learned here, but only if you don't think too hard about it.
For pity's sake, John keeps falling for obvious lies this week on "Enterprise". First up: religious extremists take over the ship way too easily in an attempt to end a moronic war for jerks in "Chosen Realm". After that, Shran is back to totally just altruistically help and NOTHING ELSE in "Proving Ground". Also this week: the dumbest ladder, SpongeBob, and Jake Sisko! [timestamps: Realm: 02:31; Ground: 30:12; Jakey Boy: 1:01:52] [tumbl this way to Jake: https://www.tumblr.com/sshbpodcast/749309616486252544/character-spotlight-jake-sisko?source=share]
Is it cold in here? Maybe because there was no episode last week due to vacation, or maybe because this week we've got the Frostman himself, Digital Eclipse's Head of Production Stephen Frost! You might know Digital Eclipse for their in-depth collections of the Street Fighter and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, or their interactive documentary Gold Master series. We discuss all of those and everything else Stephen has tackled and learned in his 20+ years in the industry. Music from Chosen Realm! LINKS:

When a robed alien who is definitely not Space Osama shows up, he and his fundamentalist pals take over the NX-01 in "Chosen Realm". We are right on the post-9/11 nose this week as we deal with religious fanatics, terrorism, mad bombers, and the whole '24' package!

Essential Star Trek: Enterprise Season 3. In every season of every Star Trek show, there are some episodes that stand out more than others — but which ones are essential to their respective shows as a whole? We continue our four-part series where we look at each episode of each season and determine if they are essential to the overall narrative of the show. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala and Patrick Devlin are joined by Kris Hill to analyze the third season of Star Trek: Enterprise and select the absolutely essential episodes that they feel you must watch. Death on the NX-01. Fans of Star Trek often debate which Captain is their favorite, which generally leads to the debate of which Captain is "the best." Discussions often include topics such as which Captain was the most diplomatic, disobeyed the Prime Directive the most, which Captain would you like to serve under, and which Captain would you survive the longest under. An image has been going around the internet showing that Archer lost 65% of his crew during the run of the show, so your hosts decided to talk about each death on the show and debunk that image. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandi Jackola, Patrick Devlin, and Brandon-Shea Mutala discuss the instances of a crew member dying during the run of Star Trek: Enterprise. We talk about the first death, the most deaths, the percentages of deaths, The Aristocats, and acceptable loss percentages. Chapters Intro (00:00:00) Welcome, Boomers! Season Three Retrospective Part 3. Season three of Star Trek: Enterprise was an brave experiment of storytelling with the franchises first season long story arc. As a response to the events of September 11, 2001, the creators of the show wanted to take Star Trek in a new, darker direction. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Floyd Dorsey and Brandon-Shea Mutala are joined by Heather Barker and Patrick Devlin for the third part in our season three retrospective. We discuss the episodes "North Star," "Similitude," "Carpenter Street," and "Chosen Realm." We also discuss the many references to the film Halloween in Carpenter Street as well as time travel logistics. Chapters Intro (00:00:00) Welcome, boomers! Enterprise Season 3 - Essential Trek Philosophy. Season three of Enterprise, with its Xindi story arc, is firmly situated in the post-9/11 era, concentrating principally on the ethics of justified warfare as a response to acts of terrorism. In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Mike Morrison and Zachary Fruhling discuss the philosophical themes and their top picks for Essential Trek Philosophy from season three of Enterprise. From consequentalist considerations about preemptive strikes to duplicate crew members and issues of personal identity, season three of Enterprise balances global political relevance, a season-length story arc, and episodic treatment of more abstract philosophical issues. Taylor Sheridan's Sicario and Hell or High Water. Running Time: 58 minutes 15 seconds Star Trek fans know Taylor Sheridan as the actor who portrayed the character of Jareb in the Enterprise episode, "Chosen Realm." But Sheridan has since gone on to become a successful screenwriter. His first to movies, Sicario and Hell or High Water, make up the first two parts of his American Frontier trilogy, with the final installment, Wind River, due out in 2017. In this episode of Stage Nine, Mike is joined by Marcelo Pico of The Talk Film Society to look at Sicario and Hell or High Water. We discuss Sheridan's transition from acting to writing, give our thoughts on the two films individually, and try to find what connects them thematically. We also debate the merits of Mr. Pibb and Dr. Pepper. In news, we preview Nicholas Meyer's appearance at the Star Trek convention in New York over Labor Day weekend. Holy hell, Enterprise actually gets one right. Like, super right. We talk about "Similitude," "Carpenter Street," and "Chosen Realm," and actually have good things to say. In fact, we have no issues declaring one of these episodes to be the best Enterprise episode to date. And one of us actually enjoyed all three episodes! (The other says that the other two were garbage, but hey.) We also talk about the plot-thickening going on on Elementary in "Turn It Upside Down," as they downshift for the season finale.
