“Bounty” 20th-anniversary reflections The Empire never forgets its enemies. That's something Jonathan Archer learns when he decides to trust a surprisingly friendly Tellarite offering vacationing tips. Turns out he's a bounty hunter working for the Klingons, who still haven't forgiven Archer for escaping from Rura Penthe. The Enterprise crew sets out on a mission to rescue their captain but find it difficult to focus while T'Pol runs around the ship in her skivvies trying to mate with everyone. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 20th-anniversary retrospective that takes you through all of Star Trek: Enterprise, one episode at a time. In this installment, we continue Season 2 with “Bounty” as we discuss how the story marks the end of the show's original concept, sets a course for serialization, adds texture to pon farr, and proves that Tellarites are terrible travel guides. TRIAL BY RETCON. Ohhhh, sorry Captain Kirk. Turns out it's fairly common for the captain of (the) Enterprise to stand trial on the Klingon home world. Jonathan Archer did it 80 years before you were even born! Our Trials of Season Two theme month continues with this rehash of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with some DS9 "Tribunal" thrown in for good measure as David Goodman, the President of the Writers Guild of America, jumps from sitcoms to Star Trek to co-write an episode that borrows heavily from established franchise history. Is it a winner or all too familiar? The grades begin at (19:06). Also, Bryan makes a big mistake when he references Tuvok being on the Excelsior during Star Trek VI as being in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Timeless" when we ALL know it's "Flashback."If you're enjoying the show, consider subscribing and rating us five stars on your podcast platform of choice. And don't forget to check out our monthly spotlight on the animated shows. This month: Laurie Ulster from TrekMovie.com joined Bryan to judge the first two episodes from The Animated Series (1973).

Anika and Liz get sucked into a vortex and are mysteriously transformed from cartoons into real human beings! Yes, it's time to talk about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 2, episode 7, "Those Old Scientists"! Hi, we loved this episode!  Boimler is fandom: he expects things to be a certain way and freaks out that SNW is different Mariner is also fandom: she loves Uhura and finds her inspiring, and has more respect for canon than she wants to admit Anika has a presentation on how "Those Old Scientists" parallels the plot of Barbie (2023) (this episode is also about identity) Liz can also make this about Oppenheimer (2023) Boimler is not excited to meet Christine Chapel (and he's wrong, but what does that tell us about the history of this era?) Stop saying Spirk. This is a callout post (for us) Save Mariner from SNW's heterosexual agenda It's self-congratulatory references all the way down, but would this crossover work with any other series? Does Pike need to be punched in the face by Jonathan Archer for his own good? Our theory is … yes!

SPOILER ALERT: The penultimate episode of Star Trek: Picard's third and final season features the compelling return of Admiral Elizabeth Shelby, played by friend of the pod Elizabeth Dennehy. Shelby first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation's classic two-part episode "The Best of Both Worlds" as a famous Borg fighter, so her return is particularly ironic. Elizabeth (Dennehy) talks about how she got the call; what it was like to step on to the bridge of The Enterprise-F; the level and specifics of her fandom; the (perhaps coincidental) power of The Twitter Machine; the ways in which her appearance was both a surprise and not; the value of an actor not knowing too much about the larger storyline; a sliver of hope that maybe Shelby has survived; how Elizabeth is connected offscreen to Miles O'Brien, Keiko O'Brien, Soji Asha; and Scott Bakula, who played Enterprise NX-01 captain Jonathan Archer; the stress of keeping Shelby's appearance secret; how small the Star Trek casting universe is; a special appearance by Wesley Crusher himself, Wil Wheaton, now the host of the Star Trek companion show, The Ready Room; how little Elizabeth misses her 80s hairstyle; and what you do not want to be doing while you're saving the world.  (Length 28:19)

Primitive Culture: A Star Trek History and Culture Podcast

Jack Bauer and Jonathan Archer. Premiering just after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Enterprise took another two seasons to fully engage with the radically changed real world in its storytelling. When the show did reveal its own 9/11 story in the third season, it followed in the wake of another intensely serialized, monster-hit TV show: 24. Jack Bauer might seem an unlikely model for a Starfleet captain, but throughout the course of the Xindi arch Jonathan Archer found himself repeating many of Bauer's signature moves—including torture and cold-blooded killing In this episode of Primitive Culture, host Duncan Barrett is joined by 24 aficionado Lee Hutchison to compare and contrast the two shows' approaches to dramatizing the momentous events of the time. We discuss how Manny Coto and Brannon Braga went on to breathe new life into 24 once Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled, whether the problematic aspects of both series are, to some extent, explained by the hawkish mood of the time, and whether Archer and Bauer are actually more similar than they first appear. Aktuális adásunkban a ’A végítélet fegyvere’ című epizódról beszélgetünk. Rövid hírszekció: • Augusztus 19-én lett volna 98 éves Gene Roddenberry, Jonathan Frakes pedig ugyanezen a napon ünnepli a születésnapját. • Csaba belenézett az Another Life című scifi sorozatba, ami a Netflixen magyar szinkronnal érhető el. A kibeszélő tartalmából: • A gombnyomásra megsemmisülő világ helyett napjainkra a globális felmelegedésre helyeződött át a hangsúly: ’A végítélet fegyvere’ aktuális jelentőségét boncolgatjuk. • Will Decker Matt Decker fia Roddenberry Csillagösvény novellájában.

Enterprise Recast.   It seems that reboots and revivals are still on the rise, even in connection with shows that were airing in the early 2000s. Charmed, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and Roswell, New Mexico are examples of such shows that have been remade with completely new actors cast in the roles, even though it seems not that long ago that the original versions of these shows were airing. And of course, we here at Warp Five began thinking about what it might look like if we recast Enterprise with current day actors. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Patrick Devlin and Brandi Jackola share their top picks for the seven main characters' recast. We discuss gender swaps, Starfleet hair regulations, the correct pronunciation of katana, getting Doctor Doom right, chameleons, Cody Rhodes, and how it's not necessary to have Trek knowledge in order to be a good Trek actor. The Captains on the series Enterprise not named Jonathan Archer. On Warp Five, we often talk about the important role that Jonathan Archer had as Captain of the NX-01. Since he was the first Starfleet Captain for the first Warp Five capable ship, he didn't have the luxury of Captain's Logs or the precedents laid by the commanders before him. While it's true that Archer often had to rely on his own training and instincts, it is also true that he wasn't completely without contemporaries. Even though he was Captain of the Enterprise, he still had colleagues and friends in command of other ships and areas within Starfleet.   In this episode, we're going to take a closer look at the other Captains seen on the series Enterprise...not named Jonathan Archer; more specifically A.G. Robinson and Erika Hernandez (and even Captain Gardner to a smaller degree). What can their experiences tell us about Starfleet in the 22nd century? Would Captain Hernandez's role have been expanded if the series had continued beyond Season 4? Or...how would circumstances have been different if Robinson or Hernandez were given command of the NX-01 instead of Archer? Kir'Shara. Ask anyone—fan or not—to name one race from Star Trek and chances are they'll say Vulcan. Thanks to Spock, few things are more associated with Trek than those green-blooded, pointy-eared aliens. Despite this the Vulcans are the most prominent race in Star Trek about whom we've learned very little over the years. It was left to Enterprise to fill in the blanks, something the series did beautifully, yet a majority of the fan base missed it because they had tuned the show out. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Michael Fisher, Colin Higgins, and James Moorhouse to continue our discussion of the Syrrannite Trilogy with the culmination, “Kir'Shara.” In our news segment we review the happenings at Star Trek Las Vegas 2013, look at a new fan-curated collection of TOS episodes from CBS, hear directly from 1/8th Beverly about her relationship with Gates McFadden, and find out where Star Trek fans get their Trek fix most often.

Captain Archer. Before there was Picard, Sisko, Janeway, or even Kirk, there was Archer. When it came to casting the captain of Starfleet’s first Warp 5 vessel, Scott Bakula was the more than just a person of interest—he was the prize. And they got him. Despite his established geek cred as Quantum Leap’s Sam Beckett, reception of Bakula’s Jonathan Archer by fans and media was lukewarm. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Christopher Jones and Kate Walsh take a close look at Captain Archer, his role in leading Earth into the galactic community, and why Scott Bakula was the ideal choice for portraying a leader who is naturally much more like us than the intrepid leaders of the 23rd and 24th centuries.
