Fauci & Ted Cruz Spar Play Audio Cruz responded to Fauci's remarks in a series of tweets late on Sunday afternoon, calling Fauci “an unelected technocrat who has distorted science and facts in order to exercise authoritarian control over millions of Americans.” “He lives in a liberal world where his smug ‘I REPRESENT science' attitude is praised,” Cruz said. Cruz then laid out four “facts” related to his call for the DOJ to investigate Fauci: On May 11, Fauci testified before a Senate Committee that “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”On October 20, NIH wrote they funded an experiment at the Wuhan lab testing if “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.” That is gain of function research.Fauci's statement and the NIH's October 20 letter cannot both be true. The statements are directly contradictory.18 USC 1001 makes it [a] felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, to lie to Congress. What does Fauci think of all this? Piers Morgan added his voice to the criticism of Fauci in his column in the Daily Mail: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10254589/PIERS-MORGAN-Faucis-political-point-scoring-shows-hes-interested-promoting-himself.html I've never heard Dr Anthony Fauci's cell phone voicemail greeting, but I imagine it says: 'Yes, I'll come on your show.' For someone whose day job is supposed to be leading America's scientific and medical war against Covid-19, he seems to have an incredible amount of spare time for self-promotional media interviews… The most egregious came on CBS's Face The Nation when Fauci burst out laughing after he was asked about Republican senator Ted Cruz calling for him to be prosecuted over his links to the Wuhan Institute of Virology from where many think the coronavirus outbreak leaked. 'I should be prosecuted?' he chuckled. 'What happened on January 6th, senator?' The interviewer, Margaret Brennan, then asked if he thought he was being used as a scapegoat to deflect attention from President Trump's culpability over the Capitol riots. 'Of course!' Fauci smirked. You have to be asleep not to figure that one out!' 'Well,' pressed Brennan, 'there are a lot of Republican senators taking aim at this.' 'That's okay,' replied Fauci, 'I'm just gonna do my job. I'm gonna be saving lives, and they are gonna be lying.' Brennan then said: 'It seems another level of danger to play politics around matters of life and death.' To which Fauci, without a trace of self-awareness, nodded: 'Exactly. And to me, that's unbelievably bad, because all I want to do is save people's lives.' Right, and the best way to do that is to alienate half the country from listening to you by trading in political point-scoring! It's always a worrying indicator of rampant egomania when a public figure starts talking about themselves in the third person, and sure enough that's what Fauci then did. 'Anybody who's looking at this carefully realizes that there's a distinct anti-science flavor to this,' he said. 'If they get up and criticize science, nobody's going to know what they're talking about. But if they get up and really aim their bullets at Tony Fauci — people could recognize there's a person there, so it's easy to criticize. But they're really criticizing science, because I represent science, and that's dangerous.' Wow. He sounds more like a religious leader berating non-believers than a scientist trying to grapple with a pandemic that has seen more scientific flip-flopping than any global medical crisis in my lifetime. The parallel is apt because the more he's been attacked, the more self-righteous, zealous and preachy Fauci has grown. The problem with Fauci saying he IS the Science is that so often in the pandemic, he's got the science plain wrong. In January 2020, when Covid first erupted in China, Fauci declared the virus was 'not a major threat for the people of the United States and this is not something the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.' Fauci then said Covid was less concerning than the flu, which again was proven to be total nonsense. In subsequent weeks, Fauci repeatedly said the public shouldn't bother buying masks as they were ineffective. 'If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store,' he said, 'the leakage around that doesn't really do much to protect you.' He also told 60 Minutes: 'People should not be walking around in masks.' Three months later, he conceded masks do work, and since then has demanded everyone wear them, though his guidance on when and where people should wear them has changed more often than a chameleon having an acid trip. Fauci initially opposed President Trump's China travel ban, then later said it had saved lives. He's also long dismissed the theory that Covid could have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, insisting it had natural origins. Yet now many top scientists believe the lab leak theory is far more likely. More damagingly for Fauci, it transpired that the Wuhan lab received $600,000 in funding from the NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is part of the National Institutes of Health and run by Fauci) and emails were revealed showing he was informed early into the pandemic that experts were suspicious of the 'natural origin' theory. Fauci's links to the lab may be even murkier. Republican senators including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have called for him to be investigated over suggestions that NIH money went towards funding risky 'gain of function' research to modify coronaviruses at the Wuhan lab. Back in May, Fauci testified that the NIH 'has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.' However, he also said during that same hearing that there was no way to know if Chinese scientists working at the lab had lied and conducted gain of function experiments on bat coronaviruses using U.S. tax dollars. 'There's no way of guaranteeing that,' Fauci admitted. Given this response, the gravity of the claims, and the consequences for the whole world, it doesn't seem unreasonable for Fauci to be properly investigated as to exactly what did go down at that Wuhan lab involving US funding. And his furious reaction to any suggestions he's not being entirely transparent about it raises more suspicion than it dampens. Other Fauci pandemic flip-flops include saying he didn't believe in federal vaccine mandates, then recently endorsing some, and telling Americans in October to be wary of gathering for Christmas before performing an immediate U-turn after his comments provoked outrage and telling Americans to have a 'good normal Christmas'. Morgan concludes: And the more he contradicts himself on TV, the more he erodes public trust. If, as he insists, his only interest is in saving lives, then it's time Anthony Fauci put his ego away, stayed off TV and shut the f* up. EU & Taiwan https://apnews.com/article/europe-china-estonia-taiwan-latvia-de0c6b41ad5a50e9d4089ad9bb2c144d TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Lawmakers from all three Baltic states met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Monday in a sign of further cooperation between European Union nations and Taiwan. It is the first joint visit to Taiwan by members of parliament from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, Tsai said. She welcomed the lawmakers, who are attending the 2021 Open Parliament Forum, hosted by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. China claims Taiwan is its own territory and rejects any attempts by the self-ruled island to participate in international forums or establish diplomatic relations with other countries that would give it international recognition. Tsai noted the values and experiences that Taiwan has in common with the three countries. “Taiwan and the Baltic nations share similar experiences of breaking free of authoritarian rule and fighting for freedom. The democracy we enjoy today was hard earned,” Tsai said. “This is something we all understand most profoundly.” Matas Maldeikis, head of the Lithuanian delegation, said he hopes to see even stronger ties with Taiwan. “We are here to express our solidarity with you. We hope the soon-to-be-open Lithuanian trade office in Taiwan will help to expand the partnership between Taiwan and Lithuania and contribute to a closer relationship with Taiwan and the whole European bloc,” he said. Earlier in November, Taiwan opened a de facto embassy in Lithuania under the name of Taiwanese Representative Office. Lithuania also plans to open a representative office in Taiwan. In response, China reduced its level of diplomatic relations with Lithuania to below ambassador level and also recalled its ambassador. Earlier, China expelled the Lithuanian ambassador from Beijing. Finland Persecuting Christian Pastor https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/23/in-case-with-global-implications-finland-puts-christians-on-trial-for-their-faith/?fbclid=IwAR28pclcdbcX-7Zxa3HzBjsQIL4p6MWPrNi4Pnzyd6CXvfN3XlJ1T8MnxyI Juhana Pohjola This is the man who appears to be the first in the post-Soviet Union West to be brought up on criminal charges for preaching the Christian message as it has been established for thousands of years. Also charged in the case that goes to trial on January 24 is Pohjola's fellow Lutheran and a Finnish member of Parliament, Paivi Rasanen. Rasanen's alleged crimes in a country that claims to guarantee freedom of speech and religion include tweeting a picture of a Bible verse. Potential penalties if they are convicted include fines and up to two years in prison. Rasanen and Pohjola are being charged with “hate speech” for respectively writing and publishing a 24-page 2004 booklet that explains basic Christian theology about sex and marriage, which reserves sex exclusively for within marriage, which can only consist of one man and one woman, for life. The Finnish prosecutor claims centuries-old Christian teachings about sex “incite hatred” and violate legal preferences for government-privileged identity groups. Ghislain Maxwell Trial Beginning https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/583301-trial-of-ghislaine-maxwell-alleged-accomplice-of-jeffrey-epstein-set The trial of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who is accused of helping her close confidant Jeffrey Epstein recruit and sexually abuse underage girls, is set to begin on Monday, more than two years after the convicted sex offender's sudden death in prison. A jury of 12 individuals and six alternates will be empaneled at the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, where they will hear testimony in what is expected to be a six-week trial, according to The Washington Post. Maxwell, 59, has been charged with six counts for allegedly helping Epstein facilitate a sex trafficking scheme: conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and sex trafficking of minors. Maxwell, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, is facing a maximum of 70 years in prison, according to the Post. This case is of particular interest as many celebrities and politicians have had ties to Epstein and Maxwell over the years, including former presidents Clinton and Trump. Epstein was famously found dead in his jail cell in August 2019. His death was ruled a suicide under very suspicious circumstances, sparking the cultural epitaph “Epstein didn't kill himself.” Psalm of the Day: Psalm 61 by Jamie Soles Play audio: 0:00-1:28 Remember you can always find the links to our news stories and these psalms at crosspolitic dot com – just click on the daily news brief and follow the links. What's the Goal of Antiracism? Play Audio: When people say that Critical Race Theory is just Marxism applied to race. This is what we're talking about. Instead of reducing everything and everyone down to economic status like Mark did, between the proletariat and bourgeois, modern Marxists divide everything and everyone by race or gender or some other intersectional nonsense. But notice that this lady says: anti-racism asks for “literally” a revolution that will tear down that system. That system was built on Christian principles. Despite all the sin and evil that was still resident in it, there was a standard, an immune system slowly checking, curbing, and correcting those sinful elements. What will you get when the anti-racists are on top? What do you get when anti-racists are the oppressors? There's no standard… And just in case you think we might be a little extreme, it's what they are literally chanting in the streets of Chicago following the Rittenhouse exoneration: Play audio: 0:00-0:12 Twitter Users Suspended for Saying Rittenhouse Did Nothing Wrong After His Exoneration https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/22/twitter-suspended-me-for-saying-kyle-rittenhouse-did-nothing-wrong-after-his-acquittal/ Speaking of the Rittenhouse exoneration, Josiah Lippincott is a PhD student at Hillsdale College, a Marine veteran, and writer. In the exuberant hours after Rittenhouse's acquittal, he tweeted the phrase “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” to his 10,000 followers. The tweet went viral, generating hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes. Only a few days earlier, Mr. Lippincott had tweeted the same thing only to have it yanked by Twitter and his account suspended. So, following the jury's verdict, Mr. Lippincott tweeted the same phrase, “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” with a screenshot of the previous suspension from twitter. He felt vindicated and apparently thousands other twitter users agreed. However, Twitter was not having it, not even after a jury ruled that Kyle Rittenhouse was innocent of all charges. On Sunday morning, Mr. Lippincott woke up to another suspension from Twitter for insisting that Rittenhouse was in the right. The first suspension had been for 12 hours. This second suspension is for seven days. Twitter has determined that it is the Grand Arbiter of truth and justice, not the American justice system, not due process, not a jury of peers, you know those principles of justice derived from the Word of God. Which, incidentally, when you make yourself the arbiter of truth and justice, you are essentially claiming to be God. Police Officer Who was Fired for donating to Rittenhouse Fund Demands Job Back https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html In other news on the fallout of the Rittenhouse verdict: A Virginia cop who was fired for anonymously donating $25 to a Kyle Rittenhousedefense fund after being outed by hackers and the media is now demanding his job back from the woke, 'hypocrite' police chief who fired him. Speaking to DailyMail.com on Friday, as the Rittenhouse verdict came in, Norfolk Police Lieutenant William 'Bill' Kelly explained why he thought Rittenhouse deserved his help back then, and why he stands by the decision now. Kelly, a 19-year veteran and father-of-three who had moved into the internal affairs division at the time, made a $25 donation to a Give Send Go online campaign for Rittenhouse's legal team after watching social media videos and journalists' footage from the August 2020 Kenosha riots. He wrote alongside his donation: 'God Bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You've done nothing wrong. Every rank-and-file police officer supports you.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html#v-2288644209685676032 Play audio: 0:14-0:39 Kelly, a self-confessed 'news junkie', saw that a GoFundMe account for Rittenhouse had been canceled, and a site called Give Send Go had set up another page for him. He logged on and donated, making sure to leave out personal details because he says he didn't want to associate himself with the police department. 'I was interested in giving him the chance to defend himself in front of a jury. I know that lawyers are expensive, and it's hard sometimes to get the message out there. I wanted to make sure that he had the means necessary to make his claim in court. 'It mattered. The comments I made, my belief that he has a strong claim for self-defense was a personal opinion. I didn't want my city or police department to be associated with it, so I chose to donate anonymously. 'It was only after the hackers broke into it that they were able to connect those dots,' he said. A hacker group called 'Distributed Denial of Secrets' obtained his name and email address from the fund and provided it to The Guardian, which published a story including his name. The Daily Dot followed. Within a day of it coming out, the Norfolk Police Department was receiving widespread calls to fire Kelly from all over the world. 'It wasn't people local, it was people from all around the country who read an article and sent a nasty tweet. In the absence of that outcry, there would not have been any kind of disciplinary action against me, I'm confident,' he said. The city decided that the comments 'eroded' the public's trust in the police and Kelly was fired in April. He has since filed a grievance, but the process is ongoing and in the meantime, he's had to survive on his savings. He says the only reason he was fired was because he supported the teenager. 'If I had a different opinion and I donated to a fund for the victims and made comments about how Mr. Rittenhouse was a murderer, nobody would have cared or tried to get me fired.' In his grievance, he points to the fact that the police chief Larry Boone attended a BLM protest in May last year in full uniform, while on duty. In the photo, Boone is holding a sign that reads Black Lives Matter, with the names of people who have been shot by cops - including some in Norfolk - around it. 'The hypocrisy is dumbfounding. For the leader of our organization to be able to advocate support for a movement that is at the very least divisive in America today, in uniform while on duty... he was holding carried the name of a person who had recently been shot by a Norfolk police officer. 'The sign demanded justice for that person, but that shooting was still under investigation to determine whether or not that officer should be charged criminally. It's very inconsistent. Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes Leaving Fox over Tucker Carlson January 6 Doc https://thedispatch.com/p/why-we-are-leaving-fox-news?fbclid=IwAR0swf7Gg8vVO8xeHsUYi67w0JtZmwV8Pfpvscb47Wr_SAz56eL_ckZmMMk Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes announced that they are leaving Fox News over the weekend. But the voices of the responsible are being drowned out by the irresponsible. A case in point: Patriot Purge, a three-part series hosted by Tucker Carlson. The special—which ran on Fox's subscription streaming service earlier this month and was promoted on Fox News—is presented in the style of an exposé, a hard-hitting piece of investigative journalism. In reality, it is a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering, riddled with factual inaccuracies, half-truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions. And its message is clear: The U.S. government is targeting patriotic Americans in the same manner —and with the same tools—that it used to target al Qaeda. Trailer for Tucker Carlson's Patriot Purge 0:27-1:06 Under the audio, there, are images of people being water-boarded, Afghanistan operations as well as images from the January 6 extravaganza. Hayes and Goldberg write: “This is not happening. And we think it's dangerous to pretend it is. If a person with such a platform shares such misinformation loud enough and long enough, there are Americans who will believe—and act upon—it. This isn't theoretical. This is what actually happened on January 6, 2021. Over the past five years, some of Fox's top opinion hosts amplified the false claims and bizarre narratives of Donald Trump or offered up their own in his service. In this sense, the release of Patriot Purge wasn't an isolated incident, it was merely the most egregious example of a longstanding trend. Patriot Purge creates an alternative history of January 6, contradicted not just by common sense, not just by the testimony and on-the-record statements of many participants, but by the reporting of the news division of Fox News itself.” While I really appreciated Goldberg's Liberal Fascists, and I still recommend it to you heartily, I'm beginning to wonder if Goldberg is one of those academics who can only spot the enemy safely behind the glass of several decades. This is the problem with many academics. They can do plenty of good historical work and careful analysis from the distance of time, but they cannot see clearly enough when the battle is right in front of them. And do not misunderstand me. I'm not endorsing the Tucker Carlson documentary. I haven't seen it. But I find it utterly baffling to completely dismiss it as “a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering.” And if they are so sure that it is, could they at least be so kind as to point us to some of easy-peasy explainers we could send to our grandmothers? There absolutely is surface plausibility to the thought that in the eyes of the Left, conservative Christians are the new target. Merrick Garland's designation of parents protesting at school board meetings as domestic terrorists is not conspiracy mongering. Also, even if there's no united conspiracy, Christians know that the spirit of the age, the spirit of unbelief hates God, hates the truth, and loves violence, and that spirit is at work. It need not be in a central office in Buffalo. And I have no problem with anyone pointing out facts or narratives that Tucker has gotten wrong. Let the truth out. Judge Ejects MSNBC from Kyle Rittenhouse Courthouse After ‘Extremely Serious' Incident of Freelancer Allegedly Following Jury Bus Judge Bruce Schroeder has ejected liberal cable news organization MSNBC from the Kenosha County Courthouse for the remaining duration of the Kyle Rittenhouse homicide trial. Schroeder said the court received a report from the Kenosha Police Department that an individual who indicated he was employed by MSNBC ran a red light while authorities think he may have been following a “sealed bus” containing the Rittenhouse jury. But NBC News said the authorities were mistaken as to the individual's intent. Play full clip The individual ticketed, who Schroeder identified as James Morrison, said he was operating under the supervision of Irene Byon. Schroeder said Morrison identified Byon as an MSNBC manager in New York. In a subsequent statement to Law&Crime, NBC News characterized the situation differently. “Last night, a freelancer received a traffic citation,” an NBC News spokesperson said. “While the traffic violation took place near the jury van, the freelancer never contacted or intended to contact the jurors during deliberations, and never photographed or intended to photograph them. We regret the incident and will fully cooperate with the authorities on any investigation.” The Kenosha Police Department issued yet another version of the events via twin tweets on Thursday afternoon. “Last night a person who is alleging to be affiliated with a national media outlet was briefly taken into custody and issued several traffic related citations,” the first tweet read. “Police suspect this person was trying to photograph jurors. This incident is being investigated much further.” “There was no breach of security regarding the jury, nor were there any photographs obtained,” the second tweet indicated. “This investigation remains active and open, no further information.” Elsewhere on Twitter, some court reporters claimed that it is common practice for reports to trail jury buses in hopes of identifying jury members' license plates for contact after a verdict is rendered. The oil giant said Monday that bringing an end to its complex structure should also make it easier for investors to value the company, at a time when it has committed to transitioning to low-carbon energy. Shell's shares traded 2% higher after the announcement. Under its plan, the company's headquarters will be in the U.K., rather than The Hague, and its chief executive and board meetings relocated to Britain. The company would also take up tax residence in the U.K., instead of the Netherlands. The restructure envisages a name change, the oil major said, dropping the Royal Dutch designation it has held for more than 130 years to become just Shell. Shell has also come under pressure from longstanding shareholders. Last month one of the world's largest pension funds ABP, based in the Netherlands, said it would sell its positions in fossil fuel companies, including Shell, by 2023. At the time, Shell said that it hadn't been warned about ABP's decision and only learned about it from the media. Separately, a Dutch court in May, ruling on a case brought by environmental groups, said Shell should move faster to cut its emissions. The company is appealing the verdict, saying it had been unfairly singled out. Nevertheless, Shell said last month that it would halve its carbon-dioxide emissions from its operations by the end of the decade compared with 2016 levels, a move that would address part of the court ruling. The company also cited the Netherlands' dividend withholding tax, a 15% tax on Dutch dividends that shareholders pay, as a consideration for its decision. In 2018, the Dutch government mooted removing the dividend withholding tax, after pressure from companies including Shell, but in the end it scrapped the plan. “The imposition of a withholding tax on dividends here in the Netherlands meant that we were driven to go to the U.K. because that was the most beneficial way of [simplifying the company] for the greatest number of shareholders,” said Andrew Mackenzie, Shell's chairman. Shell said less than 10% of its shareholders are based in the Netherlands. Shell's proposed restructuring follows a similar move from UnileverUL -0.21% PLC in recent years. The Dove soap maker last yearconsolidated its dual British and Dutch structure into a single company based in the U.K. The consumer-goods giant had initially planned to have its headquarters in the Netherlands but changed tack after a revolt by some of its British investors. Aaron Renn commented on Twitter saying, “This is a big win for post-brexit London/UK.” Idaho House Begins Meeting Monday https://www.idahopress.com/news/local/idaho-legislature-to-be-back-in-session-monday/article_6e7a0c01-2ca9-50b5-a9ca-66bd2163c2a5.html The Idaho Legislature has never done anything like this before. On Monday, lawmakers plan to reconvene their regular session, which started back in January and as of May, already ranked as the longest in state history. Officially, Monday will be the 309th legislative day of this year's session. Typically, Idaho's part-time, citizen Legislature meets for two to three months starting in January, then calls it quits for the year. GOP leaders want to pass new legislation responding to the Biden Administration's proposed COVID-19 vaccine requirements, over which the state already is involved in two multi-state lawsuits. A federal court already has enjoined the administration's proposed OSHA rule requiring vaccines or weekly testing by employers with 100 or more employees, and that litigation is ongoing. “I think it's important to let people know that we will fight against the Biden mandates,” said Senate President Pro Tem Chuck Winder, R-Boise. “We think it ought to be an employer-employee matter.” Said House Speaker Scott Bedke, R-Oakley, “This issue will end up in the United States Supreme Court, and the quicker it gets there and the quicker it gets decided, the better.” So why reconvene the Legislature on that? “Idaho needs to be positioned for its fair share in that effort,” Bedke said. “There's a desire of the Legislature to be granted intervenor status. … It's going to take some groundwork that we hope to do on Monday.” That means the Legislature could tap taxpayer funds to hire its own outside attorneys, in addition to the Idaho Attorney General's legal work that's already under way in the case. That's what lawmakers did on defending the restrictive anti-initiative law they passed last spring, SB 1110, an unsuccessful effort that ended up costing the state not only $196,117 for the Legislature's private lawyers' fees, but also $151,866 in legal fees and costs for the winning side, which the court ordered the state to pay. To allow that to happen on the vaccine issue, GOP lawmakers are crafting legislation to set up a $2 million legal fund, tapping state taxpayers' dollars. “It is just to be doing everything we can as a legislative branch,” said Sen. Jeff Agenbroad, R-Nampa, the Senate Finance Committee vice-chair who's been working on the bill. “I believe we have the support to get it through both bodies.” 29 PROPOSED BILLS ON AGENDA That's not the only legislation in the works. Bedke invited House members to submit ideas for bills regarding vaccine mandates, to be introduced at a 7:30 a.m. House Ways & Means Committee meeting on Monday morning. That committee's agenda now shows 29 proposed bills, including at least three on other topics, from school content standards to forbidding mask mandates. Speaking of politicians... New Lizard Species Discovered No, it isn't Bernie Sanders. The relatively unexplored Huallage river basin, located in the heart of Peru, is the scene of the discovery of an intriguing new species of wood lizard named Enyalioides feiruzae. Feiruz wood lizards have a beautiful array of colors; this goes particularly for males. Males can have backs that are brownish turquoise, gray, or greenish-brown with light lines. On the other hand, females can be greenish-brown or floury brown in color, with subtle darker lines on their back, limbs, and tail, as well as spots on the sides. Marvin Olasky Leaving World Magazine After 27 years at World Magazine, Marvin Olasky is leaving. He started work for the Christian news magazine as editor in 1994, until Nov. 1, this year, when he submitted his resignation. While he had already announced his intentions to retire next year, he said, he had received an effective “vote of no confidence” from World's board, which had recently started a section of the website, World Opinions, without fully consulting him. The new section offers opinion essays on religious issues with the kind of commentary on secular topics like mask mandates, inflation, race and President Biden's spending plans that can be found on any number of other conservative websites. Olasky said he was “not interested in the project of a conservative opinion magazine — there are lots out there already and that's not my vision of World,” Mr. Olasky, 71. The New York Times author Ben Smith summarized Olasky's resignation this way: “At one level, Mr. Olasky's departure is just another example of the American news media sinking deeper into polarization, as one more conservative news outlet, which had almost miraculously retained its independence, is conquered by Mr. Trump.” The chief executive of God's World Publications, World's nonprofit parent, Kevin Martin, played down Mr. Olasky's resignation, “I don't see in any way that we are becoming more partisan or more Trumpy,” Mr. Martin said. A few longtime staff members have left over the last year, and a prominent board member, David Skeel, resigned. One journalist whose departure particularly rattled the newsroom is Mindy Belz, a writer for four decades and Mr. Belz's sister-in-law. She resigned in October, saying that World was “heading in new directions, some I don't embrace and fear may compromise the hard reporting many of us have spent years cultivating.” Mr. Olasky educates reporters at the World Journalism Institute, where he is dean, schooling them in World's motto: “Sound journalism, grounded in facts and Biblical truth.” For a time he was also a leading voice in Republican policy: An occasional adviser to George W. Bush in his time as Texas governor, Mr. Olasky helped popularize the term “compassionate conservatism,” a pillar of Mr. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign. The wave of troubles at World started four presidential campaigns later… when World's editors, in October 2016, declared Mr. Trump “unfit for power” on its cover because of his remarks about grabbing women, and demanded that he step aside, Mr. Olasky received about 2,000 emails, he said, about 80 percent of them disagreeing. (In a column two days later, Mr. Olasky also suggested that Hillary Clinton step aside for her “lies” and policy errors.) “That was a very painful time for us because it divided our staff as we had never been divided,” Mr. Belz said. The board was furious — though Mr. Martin said it was not because of the substance of the column, but because Mr. Olasky had presumed that he could speak for the entire institution. “Before Marvin's cover story in 2016, I always felt we could easily navigate any differences we might have on political or theological issues, given our shared Christian faith,” the board member who resigned, Mr. Skeel, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Ben Smith sees Al Mohler as emblematic the Magazine's shift. Mohler, a former World board member who is president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, wrote in 2016 that Mr. Trump was “the Great Evangelical Embarrassment,” but in 2020 executed a complicated about-face, announcing that he would vote for Mr. Trump because Democrats are “antagonistic to biblical Christianity” on issues like abortion and transgender rights. Still, Mr. Olasky believed the tensions were manageable. “I thought things would go on this way and I would just be able to retire peacefully next year,” he said. The last straw came when he learned in September that Mr. Eicher and Mr. Mohler, the board member and seminary president, planned to start World Opinions in the coming weeks. “That's when I realized this wasn't going to work,” he said. “I realized we were really coming from different vantage points.” Times article: Mr. Olasky's recent work shows a deep concern about where this is all headed. In a recent column, he deplored the “Flight 93” approach — a reference to the hijacked flight on 9/11 where passengers banded together to storm the cockpit — that he sees among many conservatives, who, he says, believe they must use any means necessary to keep America from being destroyed by liberals. A quick glance at Olasky's personal Twitter feed seems to fill this picture out a bit: he shares a number of articles from David French and Tim Keller. Which is certainly not some kind of heresy. Both have said good and true things over the years, but it does reveal a different conservative sensibility than some. At the same time, I think it's a mistake to accept Ben Smith's summary that this is basically another instance of another conservative news outlet being “conquered by Trump.” Instead, I would insist that we have a Venn diagram of sorts where many thoughtful conservatives see some overlap with what Trump did and their position but also important differences. Then you have the David French style conservatism that is utterly embarrassed to have anything to do with Trump. This is what many refer to as TDS -- Trump Derangement Syndrome, whether that is just in every case or not. While some on the David French side would say that true conservatives must not be swallowed by the Trumpian whale (and I agree), many on the other side would say that true conservatives must not be swallowed by embarrassment by the fact that sometimes donkeys talk and say true things. I mean it is embarrassing, and sometimes, the only faithful thing to do is eat crow. Psalm of the Day: Psalm 98 It's always a good day when a new album of Psalms drops. Supply Chain Woes Continue https://www.dailywire.com/news/supply-chain-crisis-worsens-number-of-ships-off-california-coast-hits-new-record?%3Futm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dwtwitter There are now 111 container ships waiting to unload in California's ports. For the past several months, shipping vessels delivering consumer goods from Asian markets have idled in the Pacific Ocean as the United States faces labor shortages, creating bottlenecks in key California ports. As a result, retailers and suppliers across the United States are short on inventory to meet consumer demand. Even after action from the Biden administration, more consumer goods than ever remain stranded. As Business Insider reported on Wednesday: According to data from the Marine Exchange, a total of 111 container ships are bobbing at sea around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, waiting to dock and unload. That breaks the previous record of 108 vessels reported on October 21. The two ports remain clogged despite efforts to speed up the processing of containers amid a surge in consumer demand for goods. The White House announced a shift to an around-the-clock schedule in October and a new looming threat of fines for leaving containers on the docks for several days. Analysts expect that the crisis will endure for the foreseeable future. In a recent Wall Street Journal poll of economists, roughly half cited supply chain bottlenecks as “the biggest threat to economic growth in the next twelve to eighteen months” — with 45% estimating that bottlenecks will not recede until the second half of 2022. Indictment for Russia Collusion https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democrats-probed-russian-interference-steele-dossier-silent Igor Danchenko, a Russian national who lives in Virginia, was charged with five counts of making false statements to the FBI last week. Danchenko is said to be the sub-source for Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer, who compiled the dossier that served as the basis for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] warrants against Trump campaign aide Carter Page. [All of this was the basis for claiming that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.] While a number of fair minded people were asking lots of questions about the accusations of collusion with Russia, almost every Democrat on the Intelligence Committee in 2017 and 2018, when the committee probed Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 elections, strongly defended the dossier. For example, Adam Schiff, now the Intelligence committee's chair, was one of the most vocal voices in Congress in pumping the dossier. While the Republican majority issued subpoenas to get testimony under oath regarding the claims of the dossier, Schiff tweeted: "Unilateral subpoenas issued by House Intel Majority appear to be part of effort to discredit Steele, rather than determine truth of dossier," Schiff tweeted in 2017. Schiff also had this exchange with Rachel Maddow in 2017 on CNBC: https://twitter.com/RepAdamSchiff/status/905468532061700096?s=20 Play Audio: 1:13-2:43 Rachel Maddow: The existence of the dossier is the scandal -- the original sin -- therefore the FBI is participating in some Russian plot. Actually… yes, that's about right, Ms. Maddow. And Hillary Clinton's campaign paid for it. According to the Danchenko indictment, in March, May, June, October and November of 2017, the Russian national made false statements regarding the sources of specific information he provided to a U.K. investigative firm that, in turn, were included in reports prepared by the firm and subsequently passed to the FBI. Speaking of corruption, Kyle Rittenhouse Took the Stand Wednesday and Became Emotional Play audio: 0:00-1:32 While we should be careful to note that mere emotions prove nothing, a great deal of the testimony and evidence would at least seem to indicate that it is not at all obvious that Kyle Rittenhouse is a mass murderer, like an article from the Gospel Coalition claimed. But that didn't stop Lebron James who responded to Rittenhouse getting emotional with this tweet: “What tears????? I didn't see one. Man knock it off! That boy ate some lemon heads before walking into court.” Apparently, Lebron feels the same about the Uyghars in China as well as the people of Hong Kong. Fake tears everybody. Apparently Social Media Agrees with Lebron https://freebeacon.com/media/social-media-companies-suppressed-claims-of-kyle-rittenhouses-innocence/ Social media platforms rendered a verdict on Kyle Rittenhouse long before he went to trial, suppressing claims that he was innocent and blocking users from searching for details of the case. Immediately after the anti-police riots that thrust Rittenhouse into the national spotlight, social media companies began to block users who expressed support for the Illinois teen. Twitter suspended the accounts of users who called Rittenhouse innocent, including the defendant's own lawyer. Facebook said it "designated this shooting as a mass murder and … removed the shooter's accounts from Facebook and Instagram." The platform also blocked searches for "Kyle Rittenhouse." Social media platforms often intervene to suppress posts expressing a particular stance on controversial issues. Both platforms censored news stories about Hunter Biden's laptop in the month before the 2020 election. Facebook blocked a Gold Star mother's criticism of President Joe Biden and suppressed a song that criticized the president. Twitter and Facebook also suspended users who oppose vaccine mandates. The fundraising platform GoFundMe also removed a page set up to support Rittenhouse, which the company said violated its ban on fundraisers involving "the legal defense of alleged crimes associated with hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorism, or intolerance." GoFundMe supported fundraising for the family of one of Rittenhouse's assailants, Anthony Huber. The site regularly hosts fundraisers for individuals associated with Black Lives Matter. When smaller platforms began raising funds for Rittenhouse, hackers breached the donation lists. News outlets doxxed paramedics and police officers who gave small donations to Rittenhouse's defense. Twitter is still banning or suspending users for supporting Rittenhouse, even as the trial proceeds. Facebook searches for Rittenhouse's name turn up no results. Neither platform responded to requests for comment. Rittenhouse faces six charges, including two counts of homicide, after shooting three men who attacked him during last August's anti-police riots in Kenosha, Wis. His murder trial began on Nov. 1. His defense hopes that videos that show rioters assaulting Rittenhouse will bolster his self-defense claim. Let's just point out that to the extent that the Gospel Coalition represents something of conservative Christianity, Facebook and Twitter are just following their lead. We are supposed to be salt and light, but instead supposedly Bible-believing outlets are publishing hit pieces before the facts are in, joining the lynch mob. But this is not justice, and it is certainly not biblical justice. A Man Who died of Gunshot Wounds is Listed as a COVID Death in New Zealand Play Audio And that's the world we live in. Psalm of the Day: Psalm 30 “O where is the advantage if my blood should be shed? Will dust declare you faithful, can praise come from the dead? O Lord, to me be gracious, and hear me as I've prayed. To you, O Lord, I cry out, O be my help, my aid.” You turned my grief to dancing, from sackcloth set me free. You wrapped me up in gladness; I shall not silent be. Indeed, my soul, my glory, will praise you and adore; O Lord, my God, I'll thank you both now and evermore. Play: 1:21-3:28 Amen! Alaskan Governor Mike Dunleavy Issues Order Background: Recent actions and statements by President Biden attempt to control the health and welfare of Alaskans; an area clearly within the sovereign authority of the State of Alaska under the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. (“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”). Neither the President nor the federal government may arbitrarily claim authority from Congress in order to violate the Tenth Amendment. If Congress has not passed clear and specific legislation authorizing action, the federal government cannot impose its will on States and their residents. … Under the authority of Article III, Sections 1, 16, and 24 of the Constitution of the State of Alaska, I, Mike Dunleavy, Governor of the State of Alaska, order the following: The Attorney General shall review any new federal law, regulation, or policy related to IRS monitoring of bank accounts owned by Alaskans and Alaskan businesses. The Attorney General shall review any federal vaccine mandate issued by the Biden Administration and determine whether there are legal grounds to challenge such mandates in court. To the extent allowable by law, no state agency shall participate in, or use state funds or personnel, to further a federal vaccine mandate for employers. The Attorney General will review and oppose efforts by the Federal Government to monitor and negatively affect the ability of Alaskan parents to exercise their constitutional rights by participating in school board meetings. To the extent allowable by law, no state agency shall participate with a federal agency, or spend state funds to participate in, or further any action by a federal agency that infringes on the constitutional rights of Alaskans. Nor may a state agency take actions that would unconstitutionally chill free speech or infringe upon other constitutional rights exercised by citizens against or in support of local school district policies. State agencies shall continue to enforce the criminal code of the State of Alaska. If a federal agency proposes an action to a state agency that would require a state agency to act in a manner that may violate the Alaska or U.S. Constitution, the agency's commissioner shall immediately inform the Attorney General for the State of Alaska and seek legal advice as to how to proceed. Even if this doesn't have much legal teeth, I would still encourage more of this kind of talk by all lesser magistrates. This is called the bully pulpit, and it is one of the ways leaders lead. This is important for fathers, husbands, pastors, and magistrates of every stripe. Say it outloud. Say what is true. A reminder: Have you subscribed to the Fight Laugh Feast Magazine? Bill is called the 2363 Act, which is the number of children killed by abortion everyday. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/579944-ohio-lawmakers-introduce-abortion-bill-that-goes-further-than-texas-law Ohio Republicans introduced a bill on Wednesday that calls for a total ban on abortions in the state, reaching farther than the Texas “heartbeat” law that is currently under examination by the Supreme Court. The bill, called the 2363 Act, which the lawmakers said is the number of children lost to abortion everyday in the U.S., seeks to ban all abortions in Ohio and, like the Texas law, empower “any person” to bring civil action against an individual who performs and abortion or “knowingly engages in conduct that aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion.” Individuals who filed such lawsuits will be permitted to ask for $10,000 or more, according to Cleveland.com. The legislation does not include exceptions for rape or incest, but it would shield abortion patients from being sued by individuals who may have gotten them pregnant through rape or another form of sexual violence. The controversial Texas law bans abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, something that can occur as early as six weeks into a pregnancy — a point where many women will not know they are pregnant. Ohio Rep. Jena Powell (R), who introduced the bill, said it is about protecting life. “The sanctity of human life, born and preborn, must be preserved in Ohio,” Powell said, according to Cleveland.com. “The 2363 Act is about protecting our fundamental, constitutional right to be born and live. Abortion kills children, scars families, and harms women. We can and must do better.” Here's the bill: https://legiscan.com/OH/text/HB480/id/2440290 Meanwhile, Pittsburgh and Portland now allow city employees to take up to three days of paid “bereavement” leave after having a miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/27/pittsburgh-portland-ore-pass-bereavement-leave-for-pregnancy-loss.html Portland, Oregon, is the latest city to provide bereavement leave for people experiencing pregnancy loss, including abortions. The city's amended bereavement leave policy allows city employees to take up to three days of paid leave if they've had a miscarriage, stillbirth or any other type of pregnancy loss. The policy covers time off for people to recover from an abortion “irrespective of whether deemed medically necessary,” according to the text. The city council approved the changes unanimously earlier in October. Bereavement leave that covers miscarriages and stillbirths is rare, said Elizabeth Nash, a state policy analyst with reproductive health research organization Guttmacher Institute, to OPB. Even more rare is paid leave to recover from an abortion, she told OPB: “This is just incredibly uncommon.” But while paid leave to recover from pregnancy loss is rare, the event itself is “extremely common,” per the Kaiser Family Foundation, which estimates miscarriages occur in up to an estimated 30% of all pregnancies. It can take several weeks for the body to recover physically from pregnancy loss, and longer to recover mentally. In one instance, Rodriguez told OPB, a staffer shared her experience of being a new employee who had yet to accrue any paid time off to use following her pregnancy loss. “She essentially took days without pay to deal with both her physical reaction to what ended up being a medical termination with her doctor's help and the emotional and psychological impact of what happened,” Rodriguez said. “I'm like, ‘OK, we need to figure out how to actually call this out and be proudly saying that this city wants to support families as they're going through this process.'” Saturday Night Live Tries to Laugh About Abortion Play Audio 1:05-1:18, 2:26-3:09 Ok, not really funny. Not really funny to joke about the murder of babies. But the joke is actually Saturday Night Live and Liberals who want to be able to pretend that killing babies is funny or laughable. The Pro-live stance is that women are not clowns. They are amazing creatures made in the image of God. They are to be honored and protected and defended in the covenant of marriage because they are the kind of people who can make new people inside of them. That isn't a joke, but when you try to laugh at the murder of your own child, you are making women into clowns, sad sadistic clowns. Despite the fact that I really don't like agreeing with Portland very much, the fact that they are listing abortion under bereavement leave is far closer to the truth (despite their schizophrenia) than Saturday Night Live. Imposing medical things while not knowing what's in the contract….. and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief. I'm Toby Sumpter and today is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Happy Election Day -- make sure you get out and vote. And many apologies for a dead week of daily news briefs -- we were out of town recording other things that we will be sharing with you soon! Ibram X. Kendi was in the news over the weekend after tweeting a link to an article and then deleting it. The article was from The Hill describing how college applicants often lie about their race, pretending to be non-white in order to gain entrance into colleges. The now-deleted tweet said: “More than a third of White students lied about their race on college applications, and about half of these applicants lied about being Native American. More than three-fourths of these students who lied about their race were accepted.” Why the backlash? Well, opponents of Kendi's anti-racism philosophy pointed out that the tweet and article didn't really support the narrative that American is a hotbed of systemic racism, if, well, everyone is clambering to identify as the supposedly subjugated races. Kendi is often cited as a leading proponent of Critical Race Theory. Who is this Ibram X. Kendi? Dr. Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and the Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. He is the host Be Antiracist with Ibram X. Kendi, a new podcast. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He's the author of the book “How to be Antir-Racist.” His next book, How To Raise An Antiracist, will be published on June 14, 2022 and is available now for pre-order. But what's really interesting is that Dr. Kendi apparently recently said he was quite horrified about his daughter coming home saying she wants to be a boy: Dr. Ibram X. Kendi Says His Daughter Wanting to be a Boy is “Horrifying” Now of course Dr. Kendi is right: this is horrifying. And Kendi is at least somewhat consistent in seeming to be against people pretending to be what they are not. But what he doesn't seem to understand is why what he is doing is actually encouraging people to desire to become what they are not. He's feeding discontent when he propigates the notion that everything is a power struggle between races. “What affirmative messages can we be teaching her about being a girl that can protect her from the messages she is hearing in our home or even outside our home?” I'm glad he's asking the question, and I hope he considers Critical Race Theory is part of the problem. Of course he's exactly right. His daughter needs to be taught that being created in the image of God as female is glorious. But the question is: can Kendi say the same thing about a young white boy who has started to suspect that he won't be able to get into college because of the color of his skin? Elections Today! Happy Election day -- have you voted yet? I know this is an off year for national elections, but there are many state and local elections that are very important. We do not put our trust in princes, and we certainly do not put our trust in ballots or ballot boxes. But to the extent that we can have a say in the public square, I would encourage you to get out, get educated, and vote. Off years can be especially important since many people do not realize there are even elections happening. Numbers tend to be a lot smaller, and therefore your vote matters that much more. CWWI: Did you know that more than 75% of those raised in evangelical, Presbyterian, and Reformed churches don't pursue any kind of Christian higher education? Surprising isn't it. So Thomas Massie played that video for Merrick Garland and then questioned him about it: Play: 0:56-2:18 Garland will not comment on whether that suspicious guy has been investigated, and he will not comment on whether any or how many federal agents may have been involved in going into the capitol building on January 6. We Get Out With Courage: Say No to the Woke Revolution” https://www.commentary.org/articles/bari-weiss/resist-woke-revolution/ “A lot of people want to convince you that you need a Ph.D. or a law degree or dozens of hours of free time to read dense texts about critical theory to understand the woke movement and its worldview. You do not. You simply need to believe your own eyes and ears. Let me offer the briefest overview of the core beliefs of the Woke Revolution, which are abundantly clear to anyone willing to look past the hashtags and the jargon... ...In this ideology, speech is violence. But violence, when carried out by the right people in pursuit of a just cause, is not violence at all. In this ideology, bullying is wrong, unless you are bullying the right people, in which case it's very, very good. In this ideology, education is not about teaching people how to think, it's about reeducating them in what to think. In this ideology, the need to feel safe trumps the need to speak truthfully... How did we get here? There are a lot of factors that are relevant to the answer… But there is one word we should linger on, because every moment of radical victory turned on it. The word is cowardice. The revolution has been met with almost no resistance by those who have the title CEO or leader or president or principal in front of their names. The refusal of the adults in the room to speak the truth, their refusal to say no to efforts to undermine the mission of their institutions, their fear of being called a bad name and that fear trumping their responsibility—that is how we got here. Brian Stelter CNN Interview with Bari Weiss Play Audio Weiss continues: “George Orwell said that “the further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” In an age of lies, telling the truth is high risk. It comes with a cost. But it is our moral obligation. It is our duty to resist the crowd in this age of mob thinking. It is our duty to think freely in an age of conformity. It is our duty to speak truth in an age of lies. This bravery isn't the last or only step in opposing this revolution—it's just the first. After that must come honest assessments of why America was vulnerable to start with, and an aggressive commitment to rebuilding the economy and society in ways that once again offer life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to the greatest number of Americans. But let's start with a little courage. Courage means, first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered by the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.” Weiss goes on to give a list of her own suggestions of where to throw down with current lies being circulated. There's a lot to appreciate about this piece, and a great deal to agree with. But Bari Weiss is a Lesbian Liberal. This doesn't mean she cannot see these true things. But it means she doesn't see them as clearly as she should. I pray that this is the beginning of an honest search for truth -- true truth, the kind that goes all the way down. Her Judaism no doubt gives her some sense of the transcendent, but even religion untethered from a fixed, objective revelation from a personal God, is a wax nose. If she can explain away the passages in the Torah that clearly prohibit her sexual immorality, why can't we all be relativists? Does she believe her God created the heavens and the earth in six days? If Darwin trumps that, then I'm afraid there's no reason why Darwin can't trump these white patriarchal notions of truth. If we got here by survival of the fittest, there's no good reason to protest against the woke jihad since, they're just trying to survive. Where do you get these benighted notions of equality and dignity and justice, Mr. Weiss when we all descended from mindless pondscum. There's no dignity or justice if we are just a cosmic accident. Mr. Weiss is trying to have a world where truth exists while pretending it doesn't have to be held together by Jesus Christ. Mission First Coffee: "Calling all coffee lovers! Philly Driving Equality Bill https://www.inquirer.com/news/philadelphia-city-council-isaiah-thomas-police-driving-while-black-20211014.html Philadelphia on Thursday approved groundbreaking legislation that will bar its police officers from pulling over drivers for low-level motor vehicle offenses like broken taillights, a long-standing law enforcement tool that critics said led to Black motorists being stopped at disproportionate rates. With a 14-2 vote, City Council passed the Driving Equality Bill, which details seven offenses — including improperly displayed registration or emission stickers — as “secondary violations” that cannot be the sole reason for police to pull over a driver. Instead, officers can issue citations for those infractions that will be mailed to drivers. The legislation will take effect 120 days after Mayor Jim Kenney signs it, which he is expected to do in the coming days. In doing so, Philadelphia became the first large U.S. city to ban the use of so-called pretextual stops for low-level infractions, a practice that police departments have not only permitted, but encouraged for years to enable officers to potentially search the cars of drivers they suspected of carrying illegal drugs or weapons. Instead, critics say, it led to motorists being unfairly stopped and searched for what's become known as driving while Black. The new law is likely to have a significant impact on the nature of policing in Philadelphia. About 97% of police vehicle stops are for low-level violations, according to the Defender Association. Eliminating those could lead to as many as 300,000 fewer police encounters each year, it projected.” On the one hand, I welcome the thought of 300,000 fewer police encounters. There is no biblical basis for pulling people over for having mud flaps that are slightly too small, for example, as I was earlier this year. Or for having improperly displayed emissions stickers. But this is more of that woke nonsense and therefore I'm worried about where it's taking us. What is the standard for justice here? Calling this the “Driving Equality Bill” tells you that the standard at work here is about as predictable as what a six year old boy wants to tell you when he's waiving his arm around eagerly in the back row of first grade. No offense to first grade boys, but let's just say we never know what you're going to say next. Speaking of which... Chinese Supersonic Missile Caught US Intelligence Offguard https://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-hypersonic-missile-surprised-us-spies-with-its-space-capability-2021-10 “China demonstrated advanced space capability by testing a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in August, the Financial Times reported, citing five sources familiar with the test. The hypersonic glide vehicle launched by the Chinese military circled the globe in low-orbit space before speeding towards its target, sources told the paper. Although the missile missed its target by about two-dozen miles, the test demonstrated China's advanced space capability and took US intelligence by surprise, sources told the Financial Times. The test showed that China had made "astounding progress" on hypersonic weapons and was far more advanced than US officials realized, two sources said, according to the paper. "We have no idea how they did this," another source told the paper. Several countries, including the US, Russia, and China, are competing to develop hypersonic weapons. The missiles fly at low-altitude trajectories at more than five times the speed of sound. Glide vehicles are a type of hypersonic weapon launched into space on a rocket but orbit the earth under their momentum. Unlike ballistic missiles, they are maneuverable and do not follow a fixed trajectory, making them harder to track and defend against.” There are real world consequences for rejecting Christ. The fool says in his heart there is no god. When you reject Christ, you become stupid. Professing to be wise, foolish hearts become darkened. And you can't keep up economically, technologically, or militarily. Governor Candidate Says He Will Never Allow School Choice in Virginia Play Audio Terry McAuliffe has four kids going to 30K per student tuition private school and opposes the use of vouchers to send poorer kids to private schools. But it's actually not just that. He opposes allowing parents to keep their own money to pay for the education that they believe is best for their own kids. He supports taking money from hard working families whether or not they want to pay for government schools. Why would anyone want to get their kids out of government schools? Loudoun County School Board Meeting Erupt in Chaos Back in June https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10083783/Loudoun-County-father-arrested-school-meeting-says-daughter-raped-boy-girls-bathroom.html#v-4656337064846966859 Play Audio: 0:21-0:31 That's the video/audio of the school board meeting back in June where Scot Smith was arrested for exploding at the school board. What was the board discussing that day? Transgender policies. What was the frustrated 48-year old father trying to say? He was trying to tell the room that his daughter had been raped by a boy at school in the girls' bathroom. In an interview with The Daily Wire that was published on Monday, he explained that he was trying to stick up for his daughter, who was attacked at Stone Bridge High School in a girl's restroom on May 28 by a boy 'wearing a skirt.' Smith says the boy took advantage of the school's trans policies to get into the girls' bathrooms and assault her. On the day of the incident, Smith says the school told him to come to the campus because his daughter had been physically assaulted. They did not say she had been sexually assaulted. Once he got there, he says school staff told him they would handle it internally, choosing not to call the police for an as-yet unexplained reason. He was enraged by the decision and challenged them on it. The school board then did call the police but to report Smith, not the boy, for making a scene. The school's principal sent out an alert that day warning parents of what had happened involving Smith, but it said nothing of the sexual assault allegations in the bathroom. Smith and his daughter ultimately ended up at the hospital where a rape kit was performed that verified his daughter's claim. They took it to the police and a case was then opened. Meanwhile, it would be two months before the boy was arrested, a month after the crazy school board meeting. So the boy in a skirt who had assaulted his daughter in a ladies' room was still at large, when at the meeting on June 22 the board took up discussion of their trans policy. During the meeting, Loudoun County School Superintendent Scott Ziegler said the school had never had any form of incident inside a bathroom or locker room involving a transgender child. 'To my knowledge, we don't have any record of assaults occurring in our restrooms,' he said. He went on to quote Time magazine research that he said disproved the notion transgender kids might sexually attack cisgender kids, and said: 'I think it's important to keep our perspective on this, we've heard it several times tonight from our public speakers but the predator transgender student or person simply does not exist.' And it was this claim that caused Smith to became irate. He started arguing with another woman at the meeting, and called her names after she allegedly denied his daughter's claim. He was then charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The boy was finally arrested a month after that, but here's the crazy part: earlier this month in October, the same boy was arrested again on different charges for allegedly assaulting a different girl, at a different school. He is now in a juvenile detention center. The Smiths were understably stunned when the same boy was arrested again on October 6, at a different school in the same district. On this occasion, he was charged with 'with sexual battery and abduction', allegedly holding a different girl in a classroom to attack her in Broad Run High School - 2.5miles from the high school where Smith's daughter was assaulted. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office did confirm the October 6 incident, saying in a press release on October 7: 'A teenager from Ashburn has been charged with sexual battery and abduction of a fellow student at Broad Run High School. All of this comes on the heels of the Biden Justice Department announcement last week that the FBI would now investigate and prosecute any parent who it deems to be 'threatening' towards school staff. The order from Attorney General Merrick Garland was in response to a request from the National School Board Association to President Biden, asking him to protect them from angry parents. All of this reminds me of the day that James Coates was arrested in Alberta, Canada for holding church services against COVID regulations. On the very same day, a sexual predator was released into the community from the same jail where Coates was admitted. Not only was the sexual predator released but law enforcement officials released the criminal with a community warning advising that he was considered likely to recommit crimes. This is what happens when you abandon God's word. When you have no anchor, no foundation, everything is tossed by the wind and waves. You have the storm of liberals, the storm of conservatives, rage, hate, shame, and chaos. And there will only be more if we do not turn back to Christ and His word. And the first thing you ought to do is get your kids out of those schools. It is worth the sacrifice. It is worth working longer hours. The U.S. government's disaster recovery agency received more than 300 allegations of workplace sexual misconduct and harassment from 2012 to 2018 and failed to properly investigate more than half of them, according to an internal watchdog report. This article says that the report “exposes the limits [of] the #MeToo movement has met inside the federal bureaucracy.” The limits of the #metoo movement… The article continues: The Federal Emergency Management Agency's problems extend beyond proper handling of complaints, as a survey of its workforce exposed a potentially pervasive hostile work environment, according to a report issued this month by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general. "One-third (255 of 765) of the employees who responded to our questionnaire indicated they had experienced sexual harassment or sexual misconduct, but they did not report it because they did not believe the allegations would be investigated," the inspector general reported. "Unaddressed sexual harassment and sexual misconduct in the workplace can have negative effects on employees, including decreased performance, low morale, and increased turnover," the report added [stating the screaming obvious.] They also noted that if you can't breathe it is not conducive to a long life. Also from the report: "The agency mustered a poor response to the flood of allegations," investigators said. These people are hilarious. Get it? Flood of allegations? FEMA? Hurricanes and floods and... "We were unable to determine whether FEMA properly handled 153 of these allegations, because it could not provide complete investigative and disciplinary files," the report said. "For allegations that had complete files available, at times we were unable to determine whether FEMA conducted an investigation. Finally, we found FEMA did not document whether it reviewed some sexual harassment-related Equal Employment Opportunity complaints to determine whether potential employee misconduct occurred." Look, I don't really trust the report -- since I have little confidence that biblical standards for evidence, testimony, and witnesses were follwed , but I do know that we live in a debauched culture, where public school sex education courses encourage pagan kids to do whatever feels good, and then we are somehow shocked when they grow up and do just that. I mean is Darwin right or not? Are we just highly evolved animals or not? 1:11-1:18 But of course rather than completely defunding FEMA as we ought to and letting the states and counties take care of themselves, we will no doubt create another government agency that is tasked with studying the sex habits of government employees. I actually do think this is tied to youth group mission trip culture. While I don't object to very carefully crafted mission trips, I'm generally against the whole lot because I think there's a high degree of likelihood that a bunch of hormonal teenagers can actually do a lot more harm than good. And I also think that those who are most invested in a community are in the best position to help their own communities. They have to live with the results of all their help. I mean I really do feel for Haiti-- for example. But we should all be looking at Haiti as a cautionary tale. How many millions were poured into that country after the earthquakes? And how's it doing? A complete mess? Right. Ditto for FEMA. Guitar AD Have you always wanted to play guitar but didn't know where to start? Doug Wilson Responds to the Maricopa County Audit https://dougwils.com/books-and-culture/s7-engaging-the-culture/maricopa-pudding.html “So I will look sideways—squinty-eyed and scowling—at this particular election to my dying day. And I will do so with sunshine in my conscience. Anomalies do require explanation. As Thoreau once put it, “Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk.” You know, like a turtle on top of a fence post. When you are driving down a country road, and you happen to see a turtle on top of a fence post, the situation is clear, and the first thing that comes to mind is President Biden. You understand he didn't get there by himself, he really doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do as long as he's up there, and all you want to do is help the poor little guy get down. This election in Maricopa is like that. Not everything in this mess goes together. It is like you went to dig into your vanilla Maricopa pudding, made fresh just this morning, and you discover that it is resting on a bed of cole slaw.” Pastor Wilson also linked to this doozy of a conversation that happened in Maricopa County regarding the deleted/archived files from the voting machines that audit did not have access to. Play Audio: 0:00-1:54 When the voting machine records were subpoenaed, they just deleted/archived certain files and figured that the subpoena didn't apply to those records. Bring back my laugh track: HAHAHAHA! Former Pentagon Softwar Chief Says China Has Won the Tech War https://nypost.com/2021/10/11/pentagon-software-chief-nicolas-chaillan-resigns/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow From the New York Post: The Pentagon's former software chief said he quit because China has already won the tech war guaranteeing global dominance — with some US government systems mere “kindergarten level” in comparison. Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the Financial Times on Sunday that there is “good reason to be angry” at the US failing to rise to China's cyber threat, even fearing that it puts his children's future at risk. “We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years. Right now, it's already a done deal; it is already over, in my opinion,” Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the paper. Chaillan — who was the Pentagon's first chief software officer — said China will dominate the future of the world by controlling everything from media narratives to geopolitics. He claimed that the US, like Beijing, should have prioritized artificial intelligence, machine learning and cyber capabilities over traditional military spending like building new fighter jets. “Whether it takes a war or not is kind of anecdotal,” he told the paper of his prediction of China's route to future world dominance. He attacked Google for not working on AI with the US Defense Department, while Chinese companies are obliged to work with Beijing. The US is also wasting time debating the ethics of AI while China makes “massive investment” and eschews such concerns, he said. Some US government cyber-defense systems are so dated, they are merely at “kindergarten level,” he insisted. “While we wasted time in bureaucracy, our adversaries moved further ahead,” Chaillan wrote in a scathing letter on LinkedIn last month when first announcing his resignation. “At this point, I am just tired of continuously chasing support and money to do my job,” he said of the pioneering Pentagon job that was “probably the most challenging and infuriating of my entire career.” Chaillan told the Financial Times that he plans in the coming weeks to testify to Congress about the Chinese cyber threat to US supremacy, including in classified briefings. [This] comes as a new poll shows that about 9 in 10 Americans are at least somewhat concerned about hacking, while about two-thirds say they are very or extremely concerned. The poll by the Pearson Institute and the Associated Press shows that roughly three-quarters also eye the Chinese and Russian governments as major threats to the cybersecurity of the US government. I mean, if we put this together with what we've already covered on today's newsbrief, there are troubling trends. Maricopa county voting officials have no concerns about deleting (I mean archiving) files before turning them over to an audit. And our Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot even manage the emergency of sexual misconduct in its own ranks. Put that together, and how likely does it seem that some of our governmental tech programs are kindergarten level compared to China? I would say the chances are pretty high. Remember Solomon: when he went in for all the sex, he had to build altars and shrines for all the gods of his wives and concubines. Instead of using his strength to continue to build productive and useful things, his strength was used to destroy his family and nation. Is America strong? Sure. But we are pouring our strength down the tubes. But let's not end on a sour note. Remember God is God, and this is His world. China's so-called strength isn't real strength either. As it happens, pure coercive power will crush LGBT flower power every day of the week, but both are false versions of power. Neither will ultimately work. Both are parasitic on Christian virtues. Both have to assume certain creational realities are real and true. They have to deny Darwin and believe that there is order and goodness in the universe in order to maintain a semblance of coherence. Yes, that was the sound of a toilet flushing and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, October 5, 2021. AD: Did you know that more than 75% of those raised in evangelical, Presbyterian, and Reformed churches don't pursue any kind of Christian higher education? Surprising isn't it. Cornerstone Work & Worldview Institute is seeking to provide a new, exciting, and affordable option for Christians. Facebook, Instagram Down https://blog.cloudflare.com/october-2021-facebook-outage/ Facebook and its affiliated services WhatsApp and Instagram all went down on Monday for almost five hours. Their DNS names stopped resolving, and their infrastructure IPs were unreachable. It was as if someone had "pulled the cables" from their data centers all at once and disconnected them from the Internet. How's that even possible? Meet BGP BGP stands for Border Gateway Protocol. It's a mechanism to exchange routing information between autonomous systems (AS) on the Internet. The big routers that make the Internet work have huge, constantly updated lists of the possible routes that can be used to deliver every network packet to their final destinations. Without BGP, the Internet routers wouldn't know what to do, and the Internet wouldn't work. The Internet is literally a network of networks, and it's bound together by BGP. BGP allows one network (say Facebook) to advertise its presence to other networks that form the Internet. As we write Facebook is not advertising its presence, ISPs and other networks can't find Facebook's network and so it is unavailable. The individual networks each have an ASN: an Autonomous System Number. An Autonomous System (AS) is an individual network with a unified internal routing policy. An AS can originate prefixes (say that they control a group of IP addresses), as well as transit prefixes (say they know how to reach specific groups of IP addresses). From A New York Times Article: “Computers convert websites such as facebook.com to numeric internet protocol addresses, through a system that is likened to a phone's address book. Facebook's issue was the equivalent of removing people's phone numbers from under their names in their address book, making it impossible to call them, he said. Because Cloudflare directs traffic to Facebook, it became aware of the outage early on and saw the incident's scope.” If the nameservers are unreachable or fail to respond because of some other reason, then a SERVFAIL is returned, and the browser issues an error to the user. Due to Facebook stopping announcing their DNS prefix routes through BGP, our and everyone else's DNS resolvers had no way to connect to their nameservers. Consequently, 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8, and other major public DNS resolvers started issuing (and caching) SERVFAIL responses. But that's not all. Now human behavior and application logic kicks in and causes another exponential effect. A tsunami of additional DNS traffic follows. This happened in part because apps won't accept an error for an answer and start retrying, sometimes aggressively, and in part because end-users also won't take an error for an answer and start reloading the pages, or killing and relaunching their apps, sometimes also aggressively. This in turn creates a traffic increase, which increases stress to the system, even when traffic is beginning to move again. traffic changed dramatically from 15:45 UTC to 16:45 UTC-- It stopped being available at around 15:50 UTC and returned at 21:20 UTC. What remains unclear is exactly why this happened. Early speculation was that it was not a cyber attack but a problem in Facebook's servers. At one point, a team was dispatched to a Santa Clara, Calif., data center to try a “manual reset” the servers, according to an internal memo. 3.5 Billion people use the sites around the world, including many for business and sales. A New York times article stoked fears that this instability could be a liability to the economy and health. Watch this story to see if this sort of thing becomes a talking point for those who want to socialize social media in the name of health and safety and economic stability. Of course people do make their livings off the internet and social media, but this is part of the risk that is built into the world. Truck drivers sometimes have flat tires, ships run into hurricanes, and farmers have poor rain fall. The answer is not more government regulation and bureaucracy. The answer is hard work, saving more than you spend, taking appropriate precautions, and trusting the God of the harvest. To look for a perfect solution where nothing bad ever happens is to look for a God, a religious solution that does not exist apart from the true God of Heaven. But for many, the state is the solution to every hardship because the state is their god and their religion. But clearly their god is impotent as he cannot apparently save us from anything. Maybe their god is in the bathroom. No seriously… Senator Sinema Harassed at ASU in a Lady's Room Play Audio Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have been in the crosshairs of leftist activists over the last week as they have refused to go along with extremists in passing the 3.5 jumbo jet pork bill that wants the state all up in your business. So these extremists followed Sen. Sinema into a Lady's Room to protest her stance after she politely declined to answer their questions. Leftists Cheer Bullying of Senator Sinema & Twitter Shrugs https://jezebel.com/absolutely-bully-kyrsten-sinema-outside-of-her-bathroom/ Jezebel -- one extremist media outlet had this to say: “The effectiveness of certain kinds of protest will always be up for debate. From violent altercations to boycotts, sit-ins and marches, each method has some history of success and failure that differs among participants, observers, and the object of the protestors' scorn. So naturally, a group of activists pursuing Senator Kyrsten Sinema around the Arizona State University campus over the weekend and—controversially, somehow—briefly following Sinema into a public restroom to note that their family members were deported—is bound to prompt some pearl-clutching.” The article is titled “Absolutely Bully Sinema Outside Her Bathroom Stall.” Of course Twitter has done nothing about this article that defends bullying. Kirsten Powers replied on Twitter: “Which is worse: your grandparents being deported or being followed into a bathroom (bc you refused to stop and listen) by ppl desperate for your help? This is not a trick question.” Well, there's a difference between pursuing someone in leadership in desperation, and doing so to score political points and filming the whole thing and posting it on the internet. But I'm pretty sure if this were AOC or another member of the Squad, CNN would be hyperventilating on air right now talking about white supremacy and Trump. China Sends 52 Warplanes Over Taiwanese Airspace Monday https://dailycaller.com/2021/10/04/china-52-warplanes-taiwan-adiz-incursion/ China sent a record 52 military aircrafts into Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) Monday, making it the largest incursion since the self-governing island began publicly reporting such data in 2020. The aircrafts included 34 J-16, two Su-30 fighter jets, 12 nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, two Y-8 anti-submarine warplanes and two KJ-500 airborne control planes belonging to China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, according to a statement from Taiwan's defense ministry. Taiwan issued radio warnings and deployed its air defense missile systems in response. The Chinese planes flew near the Pratas Island, an atoll in the South China Sea, located southwest of Taiwan and near the Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong, accordingto a map of their flight paths shared by Taiwan's defense ministry. Chinese aircrafts made around 380 air incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ in 2020 alone, a Taiwanese defense official said in January. Beijing has become more assertive in its military posture, making more than 500 air incursions so far this year, DW reported. The previous record of Chinese military planes entering Taiwan's ADIZ was reportedSaturday night, when 39 aircraft flew into the zone. China flew 25 planes into the ADIZ on Oct. 1 in an apparent display of force coinciding with the country's National Day. Tensions between the two countries have worsened in recent months. Chinese air missions in Taiwanese airspace and near the Pratas Islands have become more frequent as a result. China claims Taiwan as its territory and defends its incursions into Taiwanese airspace as essential to protecting its own sovereignty. (RELATED: US Military Says Chinese Attack On Taiwan Accelerating As Taiwan Threatens War ‘To The Very Last Day') Chinese defense ministry spokesman Wu Qian warned in January that “Taiwan independence means war.” He also called China's military activities in the Taiwan Strait “necessary actions to safeguard national sovereignty and security.” Which is kind of like the accusation that even though I'm vaccinated, it does not work if you don't get vaccinated. https://www.facebook.com/aaron.rock.98/videos/576873593358102/ Play audio: 1:07-2:04 That's JP Sears with another great satirical video. In addition to that kind of mockery, we need to sing the Psalms. We can't fight big tech or political bullying or slander or lies or actual military tyranny unless God is our shelter, unless God fights for us. And He fights for us, when we sing His War Songs. Don't Make it Harder On Your Co-Workers Play Audio: Gov. Kathy Hochul is apparently now an expert on world religions. Also, apparently the courts are experts on world religions. Or at least they will be telling world religions what they may or may not believe. This is why incidentally, there is no such thing as nuetrality. There is no place in the universe that you can stand that is not charged with morality. There is no place in this universe where you can pretend that there is no God, or that Jesus did not rise from the dead. To pretend such a monstrosity is to be evil. It is to be immoral. When Christians say that it is OK for the public square to be agnostic about God or religion, we are saying that it is OK for the public square to pretend that there is no God, that Jesus did not rise from the dead, and we are still in our sins. But if it's OK do that in the public square, then you have just handed the keys of the car of civilization to the drunkard at the wheel. He is drunk. He's insane. The fool says in his heart there is no God. The other thing is that you cannot really banish God. You never actually banish religion. You merely replace one religion with another. And so Kathy Hochul and the rest of our political elites are quickly becoming our new priestly class, telling us what is or is not religious or a legitimate religious exemption. No, Jesus is Lord, and all authority in heaven and on earth comes directly and personally from Jesus. This includes the authority of fathers and mothers, the family government to protect the health and well-being of themselves and those under their care. When the civil government demands a certain course of action with regard to health, with no clear emergency necessity, it oversteps its authority, and individuals and families are fully within their rights to insist on exemptions from their pagan scientism. We don't worship that false god of the state. And of course, if an individual desires to get the vaccine, he or she is free to do so, but care must be taken to clearly communicate that you don't believe that false religion. Speaking of false religions… Chinese President Xi Jinping Says that Democracy is not a special right but the common right of all humans. Play Audio The irony here is pretty thick. It's hilarious, if it weren't so sad. The communist dictator of China is saying that democracy is not just a special right for a few but it is the common right and value of all humanity. The communist dictator. He also said that Tiananmen Square Massacre was a delightful tea party and would anyone like a biscuit? Remember, this is the same Communist Dictator who has imprisoned Pastor Wang Yi for 10 years for refusing to submit to the authority of the Chinese government over the church. Likewise, the Uigars have been and as far as we know are still being harassed and persecuted. And Hong Kong has been brutally taken over. Democracy is a common value to all humans. But apparently by democracy the Chinese communist dictator means whatever the ruling class says is good for you is what you meant to pick. And if you disagree too loudly, you will go to jail. Play audio: 0:02-0:45 Special jail for journalists. Slow? Jail. Too high prices for sweaters? Jail. Undercook, overcook? Jail. We have the best patients in the world, because of jail. We have the best democracy in the world. Because of jail. Angelo Codevilla Died on Sept. 20 Said this about Democracy back in 2021 Play 0:21-1:32 Democracy simply reflects the “Demos.” “Educated incapacity” -- this is what we are suffering under, “educated incapacity.” What do Gov. Hochul and Dictator Xi JinPing have in common? Educated incapacity. Dirt bikes do not belong in New York City and more. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Thousands of Haitians Seeking Asylum in Del Rio https://apnews.com/article/health-mexico-texas-caribbean-immigration-56f1f0093039e2a43e128b7ef0015485 AP: More than 6,000 Haitians and other migrants have been removed from an encampment at a Texas border town, U.S. officials said Monday as they defended a strong response that included immediately expelling migrants to their impoverished Caribbean country and using horse patrols to stop them from entering the town. Calling it a “challenging and heartbreaking situation,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued a stark warning: “If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned. Your journey will not succeed, and you will be endangering your life and your family's life.” Mexico was busing Haitian migrants from Ciudad Acuña Sunday evening, according to Luis Angel Urraza, president of the local chamber of commerce. Mexico's immigration agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But a federal official told The Associated Press on Sunday that the plan was to take the migrants to Monterrey, in northern Mexico, and Tapachula, in the south, with flights to Haiti from those cities to begin in coming days. Mayorkas and U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz said they would look into agents on horseback using what appeared to be whips and their horses to push back migrants at the river between Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, and Del Rio, Texas, where thousands of migrants remain camped around a bridge. Mayorkas said 600 Homeland Security employees, including from the Coast Guard, have been brought to Del Rio, a city of about 35,000 people roughly 145 miles (230 kilometers) west of San Antonio. He said he has asked the Defense Department for help in what may be one of the swiftest, large-scale expulsions of migrants and refugees from the United States in decades. He also said the U.S. would increase the pace and capacity of flights to Haiti and other countries in the hemisphere. The number of migrants at the bridge peaked at 14,872 on Saturday, said Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a labor union that represents agents. “When it was reported that were flights going back to Haiti, it got around almost immediately,” he said. “There has been talk that some of them are going to go back (to Mexico) but we have not seen very much movement.” Haitians have been migrating to the U.S. in large numbers from South America for several years, many having left their Caribbean nation after a devastating 2010 earthquake. After jobs dried up from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, many made the dangerous trek by foot, bus and car to the U.S. border, including through the infamous Darien Gap, a Panamanian jungle. Some of the migrants at the Del Rio camp said the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti and the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse make them afraid to return to a country that seems more unstable than when they left. “In Haiti, there is no security,” said Fabricio Jean, a 38-year-old Haitian who arrived in Texas with his wife and two daughters. “The country is in a political crisis.” These really are heart-breaking scenarios. On the one hand, Christians are called to be open-handed and generous with the strangers and foreigners. On the other hand, we are not called to be open-handed foolishly, in a way that destroys our ability our duties, like protecting our families and neighbors from criminals. On the third hand, we have created a hand-out nanny state that invites this kind of mass migration, and on the fourth hand, despite all our problems, America is still a land with a lot more stability and opportunity than many other places. Why? Because there is still a semblance of Christianity here. Do not tell me that Christianity is not political. Christianity creates stable families, businesses, and nations. But we are fast throwing all of that away. Do not think that we cannot become a Haiti. Mayor Deblasio Has a Message: If You Have a Dirt Bike in NYC, It Will Be Crushed. https://twitter.com/NYCMayor/status/1438664600053063683?s=20 Play Audio I can't believe this is real. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, September 14, 2021. COVID hospitalization Numbers May Not Mean What People Think They Mean https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/09/covid-hospitalization-numbers-can-be-misleading/620062/ David Zweig at the Atlantic writes about a new study just out examining COVID hospitalization numbers. For months, many have assumed that “hospitalization numbers provide a more stable and reliable gauge of the pandemic's true toll, in terms of severe disease. But a new, nationwide study of hospitalization records… suggests that the meaning of this gauge can easily be misinterpreted—and that it has been shifting over time. If you want to make sense of the number of COVID hospitalizations at any given time, you need to know how sick each patient actually is. Until now, that's been almost impossible to suss out. The federal government requires hospitals to report every patient who tests positive for COVID, yet the overall tallies of COVID hospitalizations, made available on various state and federal dashboards and widely reported on by the media, do not differentiate based on severity of illness. Some patients need extensive medical intervention, such as getting intubated. Others require supplemental oxygen or administration of the steroid dexamethasone. But there are many COVID patients in the hospital with fairly mild symptoms, too, who have been admitted for further observation on account of their comorbidities, or because they reported feeling short of breath. Another portion of the patients in this tally are in the hospital for something unrelated to COVID, and discovered that they were infected only because they were tested upon admission. How many patients fall into each category has been a topic of much speculation. In August, researchers from Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical Center, and the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System decided to find out. Researchers have tried to get at similar questions before. For two separate studies published in May, doctors in California read through several hundred charts of pediatric patients, one by one, to figure out why, exactly, each COVID-positive child had been admitted to the hospital. Did they need treatment for COVID, or was there some other reason for admission, like cancer treatment or a psychiatric episode, and the COVID diagnosis was merely incidental? According to the researchers, 40 to 45 percent of the hospitalizations that they examined were for patients in the latter group. The authors of the paper out this week took a different tack to answer a similar question, this time for adults. Instead of meticulously looking at why a few hundred patients were admitted to a pair of hospitals, they analyzed the electronic records for nearly 50,000 COVID hospital admissions at the more than 100 VA hospitals across the country. Then they checked to see whether each patient required supplemental oxygen or had a blood oxygen level below 94 percent. (The latter criterion is based on the National Institutes of Health definition of “severe COVID.”) If either of these conditions was met, the authors classified that patient as having moderate to severe disease; otherwise, the case was considered mild or asymptomatic. The study found that from March 2020 through early January 2021—before vaccination was widespread, and before the Delta variant had arrived—the proportion of patients with mild or asymptomatic disease was 36 percent. From mid-January through the end of June 2021, however, that number rose to 48 percent. In other words, the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease. This increase was even bigger for vaccinated hospital patients, of whom 57 percent had mild or asymptomatic disease. But unvaccinated patients have also been showing up with less severe symptoms, on average, than earlier in the pandemic: The study found that 45 percent of their cases were mild or asymptomatic since January 21… [The author suggests that the increase in mild case hospitalizations correlates with the widespread vaccination of the public…] … the study also demonstrates that hospitalization rates for COVID, as cited by journalists and policy makers, can be misleading, if not considered carefully. Clearly many patients right now are seriously ill. We also know that overcrowding of hospitals by COVID patients with even mild illness can have negative implications for patients in need of other care. At the same time, this study suggests that COVID hospitalization tallies can't be taken as a simple measure of the prevalence of severe or even moderate disease, because they might inflate the true numbers by a factor of two. “As we look to shift from cases to hospitalizations as a metric to drive policy and assess level of risk to a community or state or country,” Doron told me, referring to decisions about school closures, business restrictions, mask requirements, and so on, “we should refine the definition of hospitalization. Those patients who are there with rather than from COVID don't belong in the metric.” WA State Troopers & Other Workers Sue Over Vaxx Mandates https://www.khq.com/politics/wa-state-troopers-other-workers-sue-over-vaccine-mandate/article_f957901b-2ae4-507b-bdb5-380612564ac1.html#utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social KHQ News: Washington state troopers, prison correctional officers, ferry workers and other public sector employees have filed a lawsuit to try to overturn Gov. Jay Inslee's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The Northwest News Network reports the lawsuit filed by more than 90 workers on Friday in Walla Walla County says the mandate is unlawful and unconstitutional. The lawsuit says the penalty of being fired for not getting the vaccine is “arbitrary and capricious,” especially for employees who can work from home or have natural immunity from having previously contracted COVID-19. An Inslee spokesperson, Mike Faulk, said the office had not yet reviewed the lawsuit, but added: “We know these vaccine requirements are legal and essential for saving lives.” Inslee issued his vaccine mandate last month. It requires most state employees, on-site contractors and volunteers, as well as private health care and long-term care workers, to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18. Inslee later expanded the mandate to include workers in educational settings from preschool through higher education. While Inslee did not offer a testing alternative in lieu of the vaccine, workers subject to the mandate can apply for religious or medical exemptions. Previously, the Washington Federation of State Employees sued to delay the implementation of the governor's order. However, the union later reached an agreement with the Inslee administration, which was ratified last week by the membership. FBI Fires Lead Agent in Gov. Whitmer Sting https://justthenews.com/government/courts-law/fbi-fires-lead-agent-gov-whitmer-kidnapping-case The FBI agent credited with thwarting the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been fired from the agency after domestic violence allegations were levied against him. According to The Detroit News, Special Agent Richard Trask was fired last week while awaiting trial on charges of assault with intent to do bodily harm and allegations that he beat his wife's head against a nightstand following an argument caused by a swingers party they attended. The firing of the law enforcement officer comes amid questions concerning potential misconduct by the FBI during the kidnapping investigation, and whether as many as 12 informants were driving the alleged conspiracy. Trask was dropped as a witness for the FBI following comments he made on social media calling former President Donald a “douchebag” and other things… The arrest and subsequent firing come as defense lawyers representing the accused attempted kidnappers began planning their legal strategy, which includes attacking the credibility of the FBI agents involved in the case. The defense team also plans on alleging the FBI informants, including Trask, entrapped the defendants. The trial will not be conducted until December at the earliest, and the defense team may still attempt to call Trask as a witness despite the FBI dismissing him for the prosecution. A Texas Abortion Law Went Into Effect Yesterday and the Left Is in a Complete Panic I believe this is one of the chants the prophets of Baal used on Mt. Carmel Play Audio Sounds coming from the Texas Statehouse on Wednesday after the Supreme Court Declined to grant an emergency injunction Tuesday allowing the Texas law to go into effect on September 1. The law is ingenious in that simply makes abortions after heartbeats are detected around 6 weeks illegal and allows for a minimum of $10,000 per infraction, but prohibits the state from enforcing the law and instead leaves that to private citizens. Thus, the Supreme Court's majority argued they could not provide an injuction for something that the state and no identifiable private citizen had actually come forward with intention to sue anyone. Meanwhile abortion clinics in Texas sought to fill up as much judgment as they could for themselves on Tuesday night, conducting murders until midnight, but then apparently immediately ceased from their blood-letting and leaders from the Left all announced the end of Roe v. Wade. https://dailycaller.com/2021/09/02/critics-blame-ginsburg-texas-abortion-law-supreme-court/ Smelling all the blood, Critics on the left took aim at one of their own --the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who passed away in September of 2020, saying that she should have retired while former President Barack Obama was in office and had a majority in the Senate. That would have ensured that Obama would choose her replacement rather than former President Donald Trump, who replaced Ginsburg just before the 2020 presidential election with Justice Amy Coney Barrett. The theory was that one more left-leaning judge might have made the difference on the Texas law before it was allowed to take effect on Sept. 1. One angry leftist tweeted: Ruth Bader Ginsburg's categorical refusal to retire brought us here. So thanks you old dead white bitch. But all panic on the left is actually quite puzzling. Isn't this just another heartbeat law with some fancy enforcement language? I'm scratching my head wondering why they don't just bulldoze through the law. It's really intriguing actually. Why not keep doing abortions and wait for the first lawsuit to come and then appeal it in court? What am I missing? This feels almost supernatural. I mean, is there some group of grandmothers gathered for prayer in Texas, and now the liberals are terrified to mess with this Texas? And I'm actually very serious. It feels like that. Or is this the moment in the story where all the screaming and blood-letting of the prophets of Baal just doesn't look so powerful anymore? And for what it's worth, when Reformation comes, it will be something like that. It won't be a perfect abolitionist bill that gets passed, it will be a duct-tape covered ark that doesn't sink because there are angels holding it up. We're at the point in the story where Elijah calls for more water to be poured on the altar in the middle of a three-year drought. More water. Because we need God's fire to fall. The State will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 miinutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Oregon Law Prohibits Vaccine Mandates https://www.kgw.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/oregon-hospitals-cannot-mandate-vaccines-employees/283-1c73f5fc-ffcf-4f10-af20-7aabeb74d3c5 Hospitals in Oregon cannot require doctors, nurses or any of their employees to be vaccinated for anything from the flu to COVID-19. It's been this way since 1989, when a law was passed stating "an employee shall not be required as a condition of work to be immunized under this section." The Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (OAHHS) said it's long overdue for a rule change. "We believe that it's important for hospitals to have that tool during a pandemic. Not that they all would, but just to have that option to require staff, to be vaccinated during a pandemic, we just think it's really important to have that local option," said OAHHS spokesman Dave Northfield. "We believe that the state could write a rule that gives individual hospitals local control to institute a mandate that falls short of a statewide mandate," said Northfield. OHA said the change that would allow hospitals to decide would have to come from the legislature. OHA Communication Director Robb Cowie said the only rule they could pass would be a statewide mandate. One group against a law change is the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA). ONA Communication Director Scott Palmer released a statement that said in part: "We are not currently seeking a change in Oregon's statutes regarding workplace immunizations. We believe there is much more work corporations can do to protect workers and increase vaccination rates before they begin firing working Oregonians during a pandemic." KGW Investigates could not find any other state with a law that prohibits hospitals from requiring vaccines for their employees. https://www.kgw.com/article/news/local/hospitals-vaccine-requirements-oregon-law/283-a734746a-49d4-4c15-9e3f-904d4556f81e — Kaiser Permanente, PeaceHealth and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) will require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, despite a 1989 Oregon law that prohibits hospitals from doing so as a condition of employment. "I think that law is certainly a barrier. I think we're looking at this as a public health emergency. We're hoping to have some support from our government officials...we are calling this a requirement, there are ways for there to be a medical exemption," said Dr. Koekkoek. The deadline for employees to get vaccinated varies by organization. PeaceHealth is requiring all caregivers to be fully vaccinated by Aug. 31. OHSU is targeting Sept. 1 for its staff and students and Kaiser Permanente hopes to have its workforce fully vaccinated by Sept. 30. It's unclear what action, if any, hospitals will take against employees who are not vaccinated or exempt by the proposed deadlines. High School in Washington State Using Ankle Monitors https://www.iheart.com/content/2021-08-25-high-school-uses-ankle-monitors-to-track-social-distancing-of-athletes/ A high school in Washington state is facing criticism after equipping student-athletes with ankle monitors to track social distancing during practices. The students only have to wear them during practice and leave them in the locker room when they go home. [They are only prisoners when they are playing the game.] The monitors are being used as part of the district's contact tracing program. They record how close students get to each other and for how long. In the event of a positive COVID-19 test among students, health officials can quickly identify who had close contact with the infected individual. Officials with the Eatonville School District have defended using the "proximity monitors" against backlash from parents and other people online. "The monitors are for both staff (coaches) and students on the field, regardless if they are vaccinated or unvaccinated. If a student or coach tests positive, we will have immediate information regarding athletes' and coaches' contacts, so we can more tightly determine who might need to quarantine," the district said in a statement. [This is called Totalitarian grooming, people. Getting you used to be monitored at all times.] One parent said he was reluctant about letting the school put an ankle monitor on his son but didn't want to keep him from playing football. [Reluctant?!!] "I was notified if I didn't sign it, they couldn't play," Jason Ostendorf told the Tacoma News Tribune. "My son has played football since he was in third grade. He's passionate about the sport. ... I signed it reluctantly. It's either that or he doesn't play. ... It's not optional. If you don't sign the waiver, they don't get to play. You have no choice in the matter." "It's just one more thing they're doing to the kids through this whole covid thing," he added. "The vaccine, now be tracked when you're at practice. Where does this end? I feel like this is an experiment on our kids to see how much we can put them through before they start breaking." Another parent said he had no problem with the school using the ankle monitors. "It's a continuation of doing what we have to do to let the boys play a sport that they love," Jason Lewis told KCPQ. "If my son would have told me, "Dad, I don't want to wear it. I'm not going to wear it,' He wouldn't be playing football. That's his choice. I mean, but he wanted to play football. He would have worn three of them if you asked him to." And… there are your gods, America. Doing what we have to do to let the boys play a sport they love…. Ah, but what is a boy anyway? CREC Issues Religious Exemption Statement & Sample Letter https://crechurches.org/documents/statements/PMOC-CREC_Religious-Exemption-Statement.pdf Standing in the ancient Christian tradition, committed to the doctrinal standards of our local and denominational constitutions and the supremacy of the Holy Scriptures, the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) affirms our religion's principles of liberty of conscience, honoring and preserving human life from conception to natural death, as well as the sovereignty of individuals and families in medical and healthcare decision-making. Therefore, we state our unequivocal support for the right of refusal of mandatory medical procedures, whether ordered by a branch of civil government, an employer, or any other institution to which an individual is subject or dependent – in the event that an individual sincerely believes his or her life, health, wellbeing, or morality is potentially threatened by such procedures or products, or in the event that a parent has the same concern for his or her child. We affirm that our Christian religion protects the liberty of individuals and families to refuse any medical procedure or product on the basis of sincerely held concerns for known or unknown side effects, experimental or emergency uses, potential involvement in fetal cell lines whether in development or testing, or medical and/or political corruption or coercion. Therefore, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we defend the rights and responsibilities of our members to research these issues in consultation with their medical providers in order to make responsible medical decisions for themselves, including refusing vaccination or gene therapies on religious grounds. And we hereby call upon all governments, schools, employers, and other institutions to respect these deeply held religious convictions by upholding this religious liberty and/or providing religious exemptions as requested. Infrastructure Bill Back in the House With Senators https://www.politico.com/news/2021/08/23/sinema-35t-spending-bill-506583 From Politico: Kyrsten Sinema still opposes her party's plans for a $3.5 trillion, party-line spending bill. And she's not up for a negotiation about it. As House Democratic leaders hold back Sinema's own Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill in order to push the Arizona Democrat and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to support a multitrillion-dollar spending bill, Sinema is making it crystal clear that her mind can't be changed. And that applies even as her own legislation becomes a bargaining chip in House Democrats' internal discussions. The $550 billion bipartisan infrastructure bill “is a historic win for our nation's everyday families and employers and, like every proposal, should be considered on its own merits,” said Sinema spokesperson John LaBombard. “Proceedings in the U.S. House will have no impact on Kyrsten's views about what is best for our country - including the fact that she will not support a budget reconciliation bill that costs $3.5 trillion.” It's the latest entrenched position from the first-term moderate, whose resistance to changing the Senate's filibuster rules and to supporting a $3.5 trillion spending bill is enraging progressives. Sinema and Manchin both helped pass Democrats' budget earlier this month, setting up that gargantuan spending bill, but both are resistant to a social spending package that ultimately meets its $3.5 trillion top line mark. Sinema in particular specifically opposes that spending goal, which was devised by Senate Budget Chair Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Senate Democrats need all 50 of their members, including Manchin and Sinema, to pass a filibuster-proof reconciliation spending bill. On Sunday Speaker Nancy Pelosi said her members were still pursuing a bill that costs $3.5 trillion, but are hoping to finance it in part with tax enforcement and tax increases on the wealthy and corporations. Meanwhile, moderates in Pelosi's caucus are declining to back the Senate-passed budget unless Pelosi puts Sinema's Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill up for a vote on the House floor. In statement shortly after Sinema's, Manchin leaned on Pelosi and House leaders to act now on the $550 billion bipartisan infrastructure bill instead of waiting for the Senate to pass a massive spending bill. "It would send a terrible message to the American people if this bipartisan bill is held hostage. I urge my colleagues in the House to move swiftly to get this once in a generation legislation to the President's desk for his signature," Manchin said. Jake Sherman on Twitter: In closed dem meeting, @SpeakerPelosi and @RepKClark are making the case that a vote against the rule that sets up budget vote would be a vote against female priorities — and a vote against women of color. “Women are watching to see what is happening here,” Pelosi said Kyrsten Sinema is also watching, but I doubt she counts as far as Pelosi is concerned. Jake Sherman was Reporting from the House late Monday on Twitter suggesting that there would be an attempt to pass a rule concerning the debate on the infrastructure bill that could include language that would “deem” the bipartisan bill approved. Politics of Sex Conference Play Audio Biden Announces FDA Approval of Pfizer COVID Vaccine https://twitter.com/breaking911/status/1429872489019084802?s=21 Play Audio But Pfizer & the FDA Have Sovereign Immunity https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/16/covid-vaccine-side-effects-compensation-lawsuit.html From CNBC on December 23rd: If you experience severe side effects after getting a Covid vaccine, lawyers tell CNBC there is basically no one to blame in a U.S. court of law. The federal government has granted companies like Pfizer and Moderna immunity from liability if something unintentionally goes wrong with their vaccines. “It is very rare for a blanket immunity law to be passed,” said Rogge Dunn, a Dallas labor and employment attorney. “Pharmaceutical companies typically aren't offered much liability protection under the law.“ You also can't sue the Food and Drug Administration for authorizing a vaccine for emergency use, nor can you hold your employer accountable if they mandate inoculation as a condition of employment. Congress created a fund specifically to help cover lost wages and out-of-pocket medical expenses for people who have been irreparably harmed by a “covered countermeasure,” such as a vaccine. But it is difficult to use and rarely pays. Attorneys say it has compensated less than 6% of the claims filed in the last decade In February, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar invoked the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act. The 2005 law empowers the HHS secretary to provide legal protection to companies making or distributing critical medical supplies, such as vaccines and treatments, unless there's “willful misconduct” by the company. The protection lasts until 2024. That means that for the next four years, these companies “cannot be sued for money damages in court” over injuries related to the administration or use of products to treat or protect against Covid. HHS declined CNBC's request for an interview. Dunn thinks a big reason for the unprecedented protection has to do with the expedited timeline. “When the government said, ‘We want you to develop this four or five times faster than you normally do,' most likely the manufacturers said to the government, ‘We want you, the government, to protect us from multimillion-dollar lawsuits,'” said Dunn. The quickest vaccine ever developed was for mumps. It took four years and was licensed in 1967. Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine was developed and cleared for emergency use in eight months — a fact that has fueled public mistrust of the coronavirus inoculation in the U.S. But drugmakers like Pfizer continue to reassure the public no shortcuts were taken. “This is a vaccine that was developed without cutting corners,” CEO Dr. Albert Bourla said in an interview with CNBC's “Squawk Box” on Monday. “This is a vaccine that is getting approved by all authorities in the world. That should say something.” The legal immunity granted to pharmaceutical companies doesn't just guard them against lawsuits. Dunn said it helps lower the cost of the immunizations. “The government doesn't want people suing the companies making the Covid vaccine. Because then, the manufacturers would probably charge the government a higher price per person per dose,” Dunn explained. Pfizer and Moderna did not return CNBC's request for comment on their legal protections. Remember, vaccine manufacturers aren't the ones approving their product for mass distribution. That is the job of the FDA. Which begs the question, can you sue the U.S. government if you have an extraordinarily bad reaction to a vaccine? Again, the answer is no. “You can't sue the FDA for approving or disapproving a drug,” said Dorit Reiss, a professor at the University of California Hastings College of Law. “That's part of its sovereign immunity.” Sovereign immunity came from the king, explains Dunn, referring to British law before the American Revolution. “You couldn't sue the king. So, America has sovereign immunity, and even each state has sovereign immunity.” There are limited exceptions, but Dunn said he doesn't think they provide a viable legal path to hold the federal government responsible for a Covid vaccine injury. Screw your freedom and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Friday, August 13, 2021. Government-Funded Researchers Sought Aborted Minorities for Organ Harvesting https://freebeacon.com/policy/taxpayer-fund-aborted-babies-research/ The federal government gave at least $2.7 million in taxpayer money to researchers who sought out minority babies who had been aborted in order to harvest their organs, according to internal documents released Tuesday. The University of Pittsburgh targeted minorities in its request for infant organs—including those taken from full-term babies—to create a "pipeline" for fetal research. Researchers said they needed 50 percent of the donated fetuses to be minorities and specified that 25 percent must come from black women. The Pittsburgh metropolitan area is 85 percent white and 8 percent black. Researchers stressed the importance of maintaining organ blood flow in the request, which watchdogs say could violate federal law by asking doctors to illegally preserve organs during labor-inducing abortions. The National Institutes of Health has overseen experiments on fetal organs at the University of Pittsburgh since 2015 in what the school claimed to be a "tissue hub." Aborted babies used in this research ranged from 6 to 42 weeks of gestation, according to government documents. The grant request from the university to the government agency redacts key information, including how many fetuses were obtained and who provided them. Its language, however, raised troubling questions. David Daleiden, founder and president of the pro-life Center for Medical Progress, called on the federal government to investigate the NIH and Pitt after obtaining more than 300 pages of information related to the program through a public records request. The University of Pittsburgh has been involved in fetal organ research for more than a decade. It conducted an experiment in 2020 that implanted the scalps of aborted fetuses onto lab mice in a study that was funded by Dr. Anthony Fauci's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The grant proposal boasts of the institution's experience handling a variety of fetal organs, including the liver, heart, legs, brain, kidneys, and bladders. The university outlined its goal of becoming a "pipeline" for fetal organ research, which would mean not only conducting this research but providing organs for other institutions to experiment on. The NIH did not respond to a request for comment. On Twitter, Nate Fischer shared this story but also pointed out the fact that Francis Collins ran the NIH during this time. Fischer: “He was widely celebrated as an example of sort of “faithful presence” so many educated and successful Christians have been told to aspire to. I'm sure @NIHDirector is a thoughtful Christian, personally opposed this, wouldn't choose to do it in a perfect world, is wrestling with the challenges of Christian leadership in an elite secular institution, etc. But the fact is the NIH funded a project that actively sought aborted fetuses to perform research on under Collins's leadership. That Collins did not stop this highlights the impotence cultivated by the “faithful presence” approach promoted in so many elite-adjacent evangelical circles. Here, the result was actually grimmer than simple failure to achieve impact: as head of the NIH, Collins played a role in funding this research. Through a career celebrated as a shining example of ‘faithful presence' he became an active participant in a grotesque evil. If Christians aren't going to develop doctrines that actually prepare them to fight against evils in the institutions they help lead, perhaps it's better – for the sake of their souls – that they don't even venture into these institutions.” Francis Collins is the founder of BioLogos – a Christian evolutionary science resource. He has also led the Human Genome Project in addition to the NIH. In 2006, he wrote the best-selling book The Language of God in which he tells his journey from atheism to Christian belief, showing that science is not in conflict with the Bible. But clearly Dr. Collins, despite having converted to Christianity, is still a very confused man. Speaking of Experts, Arnold Says Screw Your Freedom Play Audio: 1:20-2:14 Why would we not believe somebody like Dr. Fauci? Hawley's amendment, but everything in me grimaces. It sounds like some kind of funding program for local police departments, but the last thing we need is more Federal funding. Remember federal dollars are federal chains. When you take the King's coin, you become the King's man. The last thing we want are federalized police forces, with the president running our local police. This may not be happening this minute, but the more money you take the more they will have to say. I've generally appreciated Sen. Hawley, but this makes me nervous. Rand Paul is fed up with Nancy Pelosi and all the Covid mandates and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, August 10, 2021. A Federal court just blocked the Biden's Transgender Mandate From our friend Luke Goodrich: Franciscan Alliance, Inc. v. Xavier Becerra (Secretary of the US Department of Health). The plaintiffs are a religious hospital & group of over 20,000 healthcare professionals ( @CMDANational who gladly serve ALL patients regardless of their sex or gender identity. They provide top-notch care to transgender patients for everything from cancer to the common cold. 2/ But a controversial HHS regulation threatens multimillion-dollar penalties unless they perform gender-transition procedures, including on children, even when the procedures violate the doctors' conscience and medical judgment and could harm patients. http://transgendermandate.org 4/ Today's decision rightly says the mandate violates federal law. This is now the second federal court to block the mandate. The Biden Admin appealed the other decision (also a @BECKETlaw case) to the 8th Circuit: These religious doctors and hospitals joyfully serve ALL patients and routinely provide top-notch care to transgender patients. There is ample evidence, however, that some gender transition procedures can harm patients: Several federal circuits--including the 5th and 1st--have examined whether there is “consensus in the medical community about the necessity and efficacy of sex reassignment surgery as a treatment for gender dysphoria.” 7/ These circuits have all reached the same conclusion: “There is no medical consensus that sex reassignment surgery is a necessary or even effective treatment for gender dysphoria.” Gibson v. Collier HHS's own doctors in the Obama Admin agreed: “Based on a thorough review of the clinical evidence...there is not enough evidence to determine whether gender reassignment surgery improves health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries with gender dysphoria.” Doctor Dan Stock Speaks to Mt. Vernon School Board in Indiana https://fb.watch/7hljDYi7YV/ Play Audio: 0:00-2:47 Rand Paul Says They Can't Arrest All of Us Play Audio: 0:00-2:08 Pentagon to Mandate Covid-19 Vaccine for U.S. Service Members https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-backs-pentagons-plan-to-vaccinate-u-s-military-11628531944?mod=hp_lead_pos1 Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Monday said he would make Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for U.S. service members by mid-September, an effort by the Biden administration to battle back the highly contagious Delta variant sweeping through unvaccinated communities across the country. In a letter to the U.S. military, the Defense Secretary said he would seek a presidential waiver of a requirement that vaccines mandated by the Pentagon have the full approval of the Food and Drug Administration, unless the agency grants that approval first. President Biden, in a separate statement, expressed his “strong support for the move.” After a spring and early summer in which mass vaccinations appeared to curb Covid-19's spread and ease the caseload and rate of hospitalization and death, the Delta variant has torn through the country, particularly in areas with low rates of vaccination. In Florida, for instance, a steep rise in cases since late June has pushed Covid-19 hospitalizations to new records. Coronavirus patients now fill at least 43% of Florida's adult intensive-care beds. “We're seeing an uptick in cases, uptick in hospitalizations across the force, as we are in the country, and the Delta variant is a factor in that,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday. About 1.3 million men and women serve in uniform across the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force. According to the Pentagon, just over one million service members are fully vaccinated, and another 237,000 are partially vaccinated. The CDC's draconian edict and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Friday, August 6, 2021. Representative Cori Bush Staged a Homelessness Protest over the last weekend, Sleeping Out on the Steps of the US Capitol Building – protesting the eviction moratorium as it expired following a Supreme Court ruling Play: 0:15-0:43 Then Yesterday Biden said this on Moratoriums Play: 0:17-0:46 Likely to face legal challenges, but oh well. The Supreme Court has ruled, but oh well. Which is what all the states should say about Roe v. Wade. Then just a few hours later: Rochelle Walensky CDC Tsar Issued A Decree From Her Unelected Throne https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s0803-cdc-eviction-order.html CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky today signed an order determining the evictions of tenants for failure to make rent or housing payments could be detrimental to public health control measures to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. This order will expire on October 3, 2021 and applies in United States counties experiencing substantial and high levels of community transmission levels of SARS-CoV-2. The eviction moratorium allows additional time for rent relief to reach renters and to further increase vaccination rates. In the context of a pandemic, eviction moratoria—like quarantine, isolation, and social distancing—can be an effective public health measure utilized to prevent the spread of communicable disease. Eviction moratoria facilitate self-isolation and self-quarantine by people who become ill or who are at risk of transmitting COVID-19 by keeping people out of congregate settings and in their own homes. CDC remains committed and will continue to explore and use all of the tools at our disposal to protect the health and well-being of Americans affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The order can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-eviction-declaration.html. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said: The emergence of the delta variant has led to a rapid acceleration of community transmission in the United States, putting more Americans at increased risk, especially if they are unvaccinated. This moratorium is the right thing to do to keep people in their homes and out of congregate settings where COVID-19 spreads. It is imperative that public health authorities act quickly to mitigate such an increase of evictions, which could increase the likelihood of new spikes in SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Such mass evictions and the attendant public health consequences would be very difficult to reverse. National Apartment Association Has Sued the United States Government https://www.naahq.org/news-publications/naa-sues-federal-government-recover-industry's-losses-under-nationwide-eviction The National Apartment Association (NAA) on July 27 filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to recover damages on behalf of rental housing providers that have suffered severe economic losses under the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) overreaching federal eviction moratorium. As NAA members and the broader industry understand all too well, the CDC's prolonged order directly harms those who provide critically needed rental homes, jeopardizes the long-term viability of housing infrastructure and sets a dangerous precedent for future disaster-response measures. NAA is the first to take legal action seeking compensation for the CDC's policy and to ensure that similar “emergency measures” cannot be enacted again. The suit, NAA et al. v. The United States of America, is open to all rental housing providers who have been damaged by and are operating in a state or locality under the federal eviction moratorium. It argues that the CDC order has curbed several rights under the U.S. Constitution including: The right to access the courts, the freedom to contract with others absent government interference, the right to demand compensation when property is taken by government action and the limits of federal government power. NAA is confident that the CDC will be found to have acted illegally based on court rulings to date, including the most recent decision from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals affirming that the CDC's order was unlawful.
