We had plans to do an athlete interview this week but language barriers slowed things down a bit. Quick reminder that if you speak another language in addition to English, we would love the help of a translator to reduce the barriers to communication with athletes! Between that and the fact that Mike is currently in an uber on the way to the airport at 3:26 AM Friday morning for a work conference in San Fransisco as he/I write this, we needed to make a stress free pivot! Because of this, we are rereleasing episode 138. Bridge to Bridge 12k Run with Angela Melchiori!! originally released August 26th, 2019 which is interesting as Katelyn brought up because while that was released on Mike's/my birthday, this one is being released on Katelyn's birthday! Reporting from Parliament House in Canberra, The Quicky's Taylah Strano is bringing you 2026–27 Budget For Basic B*tches. Last night the Federal Budget officially dropped and Treasurer Jim Chalmers says it is Australia's most important and ambitious budget in decades. But if the mention of capital gains tax makes you want to stare blankly at a cube cheese platter, don't worry, we’ve translated the jargon into Basic B*tch English.
When it comes to DEKA there's one place that we like to go to focus on for coverage and it's Underdog Fitness. There are a bunch of reasons for this: Mike was coached by Kevin for a while, it's where we did our first DEKA, their athletes are frequently on the podium for DEKA World Championships every year, and they are some of our favorite people in the sport! We went down Saturday night and brought Luci for her first hotel and race experience but as we talked about last episode she ended up getting high and hospitalized and Mike almost got arrested for speeding on the way home. Things were a bit hectic with all that and there were many unintentional Irish Goodbyes but I think we did pretty well with an hour of interviews for coverage. Check out the names below! Game Deflators dive into Wizards union drama, Sony PlayStation antitrust battles, N4G misfires, Nintendo Direct reactions, and a Rugrats PS1 classic. 00:00 Introduction 01:19 Game Pickups and Magic the Gathering 04:26 Building Decks and Strategies 07:23 Current Gaming Experiences 10:13 Dungeon Crawler Carl 16:10 Game Boy Micro and New Game Experiences 23:12 Comparing Saros and Returnal 28:09 Quick News and Industry Updates 33:56 The Shift from Community to Curation 40:21 The Rise and Fall of Xbox Copilot 44:14 Xbox's Future: Competition and Innovation 52:13 Star Fox Direct: Nostalgia vs. Innovation 01:00:42 Rugrats: A Trip Down Memory Lane 01:11:50 Outro John and Ryan are back with another week of industry shake‑ups, corporate stumbles, and a retro trip to the PS1 era. The episode opens with Wizards of the Coast once again fumbling labor relations as the company misses the deadline to voluntarily recognize its workers union. The duo breaks down why this matters for the tabletop and digital teams pushing for better conditions. From there, the guys turn to Sony, where the company is on the verge of a major loss in a class‑action lawsuit alleging anticompetitive digital pricing practices. Ryan digs into how Sony's walled‑garden strategy may finally be catching up with them. The conversation shifts to long‑running gaming site N4G, which has abruptly removed all community features and gutted its user‑driven identity. John reflects on the site's early influence, while Ryan wonders whether this is a pivot, a panic move, or the beginning of the end. Next up: Microsoft quietly kills the Copilot AI for Xbox, a feature nobody asked for and even fewer used. Ryan breaks down why the tool never found an audience. Then The guys then dive into the latest Nintendo Direct, including the community's mixed reaction. To wrap things up, the Inflation Deflation Game of the Week features a nostalgic return to the PlayStation 1 with Rugrats: Search for Reptar. The duo revisits the purple‑and‑green chaos of the late '90s, breaks down how the game holds up today, and decides whether its current market price is justified or inflated by childhood memories. One Nation has just made history by securing its first-ever federal lower house seat. With Pauline Hanson eyeing the Lodge, the message to Canberra is loud and clear: Australians are fed up. But is this a genuine endorsement of hard-right policies, or a protest against the cost-of-living crisis and housing stress? Today, we’re joined by The New Daily’s Political Editor Amy Remeikis to unpack whether the old 'blue vs red' era of Australian politics is officially over. Plus, we speak with Charlotte Mortlock, founder of Something Better Australia, about her grassroots mission to build a new political force that moves beyond the fringe.
A cruise ship, a rare virus, and three dead passengers. It is the headline that has put us all on edge, but how worried should we be about hantavirus? In this episode of The Quicky, we speak with CSIRO Principal Research Scientist Professor Glenn Marsh to find out how this rodent-borne illness spreads, why a specific South American strain has experts concerned and whether Australia is prepared for a potential outbreak.
Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today, marking a century of a life dedicated to the natural world. From his early days at the BBC in the 1950s to becoming the most recognisable voice in documentary history, we look back at the landmark career of a man who brought the wild into our living rooms.
If you've noticed the men in your life repeating talking points from Andrew Tate or Joe Rogan, you're likely seeing the real-world impact of the ‘manosphere’. Research suggests these digital echo chambers are doing genuine damage to the lives of boys and men, but how do we combat an algorithm? Today, we are joined by Australia’s first-ever Special Envoy for Men’s Health, Dan Repacholi. The Labor MP and five-time Olympian is heading off on a national listening tour to tackle the crisis in men’s mental health, respect, and the rising tide of online misogyny. We investigate what it actually takes for men to stay well and why the solution has to start with men talking to men.
Last episode we had Miranda Kilpinski on the show to talk about her return to obstacle course racing, and her win in New Jersey. Jordan McDougal took the win for the men and had a return to Spartan racing for the first time in a while so I invited him on as well! Jordan talks about what he has been doing since we last had him on the show 3 years ago, his torn meniscus, the race itself, plans for the rest of the series, and more! The first Monday in May has arrived, and with it, the most exclusive red carpet in the world. This year, the Met Gala’s Costume Art theme pushed the world’s biggest stars to move beyond pretty gowns and turn themselves into literal living sculptures. While some celebrities like Emma Chamberlain and Heidi Klum fully embraced the assignment, others found themselves under the watchful, discerning eye of Anna Wintour. Mamamia's Head of Entertainment Laura Brodnik joins us to break down all the looks, drama and the celebrity story you might've missed yesterday. For more on The Met Gala make sure you check out the full run through on Mamamia's entertainment podcast The Spill here
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners are advised this episode contains descriptions of an Indigenous person who has died. It's the story that has rocked Australia. A five-year-old girl disappeared from a town camp, sparking a desperate five-day search that ended in heartbreak. As her family enters a period of deep sorry business in Central Australia, the nation is left grappling with the horrific circumstances surrounding her death. A 47-year-old man has been charged with her murder, while Alice Springs has been pushed to breaking point. Today, we speak with Catherine Liddle, Arrernte and Luritja woman and CEO of SNAICC, to move past the headlines. We discuss the legacy of this little girl, the reality of life in the town camps, and why her family is pleading with politicians not to turn this tragedy into a political football.
It is fashion’s biggest night of the year, but the Met Gala is much more than just a parade of celebrities on a red carpet. As we prepare for the 2026 event, we explore why this exclusive party is actually a vital fundraiser that bankrolls fashion as an art form. We dive into this year’s conceptual theme, and the dress code that's expected to ditch 'pretty dresses' for sculptural, gallery-level installations. Plus, we look at the power players making headlines this year; with Beyoncé returning to co-chair for the first time in a decade, and Jeff Bezos’ controversial sponsorship causing a stir, the guest list is as much about cultural tension as it is about couture.
If you’ve seen Rebel Wilson’s name back in the headlines and felt confused about her latest legal fight, you’re not alone. What started with an Instagram story has snowballed into a blockbuster legal battle in the NSW Supreme Court. At the heart of the case is a dispute between the Hollywood star and the lead actress, Charlotte MacInnes, in her directorial debut The Deb; over allegations of sexual harassment and a shared bath that have now led to a serious defamation claim. Today, we go inside the courtroom to explain whose accused who of what.

Have you hear of Clavicular? Well, he's the posterboy for "Looksmaxxing" What started as a niche corner of the internet has exploded into a mainstream movement, where young men are obsessed with 'maximising' their physical attractiveness at any cost. But while it might look like a simple 'glow up' on the surface, its origins in incel forums and its link to extreme cosmetic surgery and steroids have experts sounding the alarm. Today, we go inside the concerning rise of the looksmaxxing trend, investigate the 'Clavicular' lore that resulted in an explosive 60 Minutes interview, and find out why this movement is taking a dark and dangerous turn for men's mental health

It starts with a message in a group chat: a man asking for advice on exactly how much sedative to slip into his wife’s tea tonight so he can sexually assault her while she's unconscious. Following the horrific 2024 trial of Dominique Pelicot in France, a new investigation has revealed that this wasn't an isolated case, but a thriving global ecosystem. From 'sleep' content on major porn sites to private forums where men livestream their drugged partners for a fee, the scale of this internet-enabled abuse is staggering. We’re joined by CNN Paris Bureau Chief Saskya Vandoorne, who infiltrated these secret 'brotherhoods' to expose how these men operate under the cover of anonymity and why platforms are still failing to stop them. If you or someone you know needs help it's available. You can contact 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
If your social media feed has convinced you that everyone has ADHD, new data is offering a reality check. Freshly released figures expose a hidden story: your diagnosis might depend more on your postcode, your paycheque, and whether there’s a doctor nearby rather than your actual symptoms. Today, we’re joined by Dr Norman Swan to unpack the national prescription records, which state is such a massive outlier, and what it really costs to get an assessment in Australia’s mental healthcare system.
Is the Strait of Hormuz open or not? And what happens once this ceasefire deal ends later this week? We're bringing in two foreign correspondents to unpack what played out in the Middle East this weekend and what renewed peace talks could bring between Iran and the US in the coming days.
It has been seven weeks since the war involving the US, Israel, and Iran began, and while a fragile two-week ceasefire is currently in place, the world is holding its breath. Earlier this week, President Donald Trump threw a spanner in the works by announcing a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical energy corridor, after initial peace talks in Pakistan reached an impasse over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Today, we're unpacking what this escalation means for your bottom line. With global oil prices surging, Australian airlines have already begun hiking fares and cutting domestic flight capacity to manage soaring fuel bills. Plus, we examine a historic breakthrough as Israel and Lebanon agree to their first direct negotiations in over 30 years. Director of Research from the United States Studies Centre, Jared Mondschein, joins us to discuss whether these high-stakes diplomatic moves will lead to lasting stability or a global recession.
Eight years ago, they were the world’s most famous newlyweds visiting our shores as senior working royals. This week, Harry and Meghan have touched down in Australia for a four-day visit that looks very different. From charitable engagements to a high-priced wellness retreat; the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are walking a fine line between charity and commerce. But with reports that Aussie taxpayers are footing a hefty security bill despite the trip being 'private', is the public sentiment starting to sour? We're joined by Mamamia Out Loud host and royal expert Holly Wainwright to decode the 'quasi-royal' tour, the impending arrival of Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, and whether Australians actually care about the ex-royals anymore.
If you grew up with Dolly magazine, woke up with Today, or unwound with The Project, Lisa Wilkinson has likely been the voice in the room for most of your life. After one of the most turbulent chapters of her career and a high-profile legal battle, Lisa has stepped away from the cameras to uncover a story lost to time. We’re sitting down with the media veteran to discuss her new book, The Titanic Story of Evelyn, which follows the extraordinary life of Evelyn Marsden; the only Australian-born survivor of the Titanic. Lisa reveals how she pieced together this '10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle' to tell a tale of heroism through a female lens. Plus, Lisa opens up about her 'new chapter' after television, the reality of 'rowing against the tide' in the Australian media landscape, and whether she’s got another big story under her hat. You can order your copy of The Titanic Story of Evelyn here

As Donald Trump announces a US Navy blockade on one of the world's most vital fuel routes after failed talks with Iran, we look at what this means for global stability; including the plans of Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese this week. Plus, as Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors prepare for high-stakes meetings in Washington, we're joined by Beirut-based journalist Wael Taleb to find out what life is like on the ground after a series of devastating strikes and whether a ceasefire is actually within reach.
It’s Friday, so we’re wrapping up the week with a look at the stories making us smile. First, there’s a big win for parents as flu season approaches: a new needle-free ‘FluMist’ nasal spray is now available for kids and teens. We check in on which states are offering it for free to help keep the family healthy this winter. Then, we dive into the ‘viral’ moment that had the McDonald’s CEO’s own kids calling him out for his burger-tasting technique. Plus, we celebrate some truly legendary longevity as we clear up the headlines surrounding Jonathan, the world’s oldest tortoise.
The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has brought global supply chains to their knees, but a sudden 11th-hour deal has secured a two-week ceasefire. As the Strait of Hormuz conditionally reopens, we look at the flow-on effects that have hit us at the local servo and the checkout. Plus, with the US President making some of his most alarming threats to date, including the warning that an 'entire civilisation' could be at risk, we ask if this is just internet bravado or a genuine threat of war crimes. Amelia Lester joins us to unpack the ten-point peace plan, if the ceasefire will hold and why Trump is now staring down the barrel of impeachment.
