Think about the last time you dealt with someone you were trying really hard to be professional with. Despite multiple miscommunications on their part — and what was clearly laziness, apathy, and them mailing it in — you kept trying to be the adult. You kept overcompensating for their lack of effort. You kept telling yourself, “Hold yourself to a higher standard.” But it's still getting you nowhere. You want to lose it. You want to let them have it. But you hesitate — because everything in leadership and communication says “keep your cool.” So the question becomes: At what point does that restraint stop helping and start hurting? At what point are you completely justified in going old-school — 1950s dad style — and giving someone a full-on ass-chewing? What You'll Learn: •How to recognize when it's time to stop playing nice and start holding the line •A real-world filter to help you decide when to confront someone directly •Why giving someone the business doesn't mean losing your professionalism •How to hit someone with hard truth — without losing your message or your control Why It Matters: If you lead, coach, manage, or parent — this will give you a concrete decision-making lens for high-friction moments. You'll stop second-guessing yourself when someone needs to be checked, and you'll know how to do it in a way that's firm, clear, and productive. Come see us in:

“Is there anything I can do to help?” It's interesting and unique how we've all been asked this question by a spouse, friend, co-worker, or boss—but it never feels like that question leads to you getting actual help. It often feels like answering that question will cause you even more issues. But, people are asking it with good intentions, so how can we actually seize this moment and get some relief from the overload? We're always told as leaders that we need to delegate, delegate, delegate—so how can we respond to this request without adding to our overwhelm? In today's episode, Brett is going to give us all the answers—and much more—to this age-old question we all somewhat cringe when we hear. Lean in as he covers: The psychology and first principles behind why we often decline help—even when we need it Cognitive overwhelm—how to reduce it, cut through the fog, and get the help you need Practical strategies to truly show up for someone and show you care Default requests you can use to get quick results based on their competence and ability How to respond with honesty that eases the emotional friction you might feel Iron Sharpens Iron You say you want to be the best—then stop avoiding the conversations that actually test you. This isn't another feel-good workshop or conference where you can sit back, take notes, and disappear into the crowd. The Apprenticeship is fully interactive. We throw you into live, role-play scenarios and teach you how to navigate real conflict, difficult personalities, and power dynamics with clarity and control. No fluff. No theory overload. Just gritty, practical reps that expose your blind spots and sharpen your communication under pressure. Everyone could use some help—and if you're part of the audience we focused on in last week's episode, you'll even earn 1.6 CEUs! Come see us in:
This isn't personal, but it's been a long time coming. This episode is aimed directly at the legacy industries of Art of Coaching, Strength and Conditioning, and let's throw overall fitness in there too. If you work in high performance, physical therapy included, you're included. We know everyone deals with some version of this, but we're speaking to the world we know best. The message? Most of you say you want to be the best. Most of you say you're “in it for the right reasons.” But you're not. You're full of shit. You've built a self-serving feedback loop—one that props up your ego and avoids any real discomfort. You'll do anything but face your actual weaknesses. You whistle past the graveyard, pretending it's all about the best exercises, protocols, or the next certification. You could have the greatest program in the history of the world, but if you can't work with the humans executing, it means nothing. Today's episode will hit each listener differently. Some will take it as a wake-up call. Others will feel like they're getting roasted. And a few of you might even hear it as a love letter—meant for a group of talented people who are in desperate need of a gut check. Turn it up, as Brett pulls no punches covering: The massive divide between what people say they want—and what they actually do CEUs and continuing education: how they keep you feeding the machine Are you really a lifelong learner, or just another body fogging a mirror in the weight room? Why real progress looks more like a boxing gym and less like a resort Let us know what you thought of this episode. Whether you loved it or hated it, we welcome the discourse. Send your feedback to info@artofcoaching.com—we genuinely want to help those in our legacy audience who are ready to get honest and do the work. The Apprenticeship You say you want to be the best—then stop avoiding the conversations that actually test you. This isn't another feel-good workshop or conference that lets you hide in the crowd. At The Apprenticeship, we throw you into live, high-stress role-play scenarios and teach you how to navigate real conflict, difficult personalities, and power dynamics with clarity and control. No fluff. No theory overload. Just gritty, practical reps that expose your blind spots and sharpen your communication under pressure. Because if you can't lead a conversation, you're not leading anything.
Ever feel like you're coaching on repeat? You've handed a client every tool they need, yet they keep circling back with the same issue. Or maybe you're working with an athlete who hears everything you say, but nothing seems to land. It's as if they're outsourcing ownership of the entire process. It can start to feel like a rehearsed dance. You say your part, they nod along, and both of you move forward on autopilot. But this doesn't have to be just frustrating—it can be an inflection point for us. In today's episode, Brett breaks down how to navigate this all-too-common dynamic and use it as a way to better understand what we bring to the table. Because when we hone in on and embrace our unique intangibles—those strong qualities that might even turn some people off—we create opportunities to lead more effectively, grow our business, and stand out in a noisy, boring world where everyone just wants to fit in. In this episode, we cover: No matter what they say, clients come back for more than just results Questions to ask a non-responsive client to encourage ownership—without assigning blame How to get feedback and gain insight into what sets you apart (hint: it's not your experience or certifications) Determine if there's a “psychological nutrient” you're providing—or withholding Bonus: An excerpt from Brett's Observed Absurdity file about department stores, including some hilarious, can't-miss euphemisms and analogies The Apprenticeship If you're tired of struggling through hard conversations or avoiding them altogether, this is your chance to train for them. We'll put you in realistic role-play scenarios and teach you the frameworks that help you navigate conflict, power dynamics, and tough personalities. No fluff. No gurus. Just pressure-tested strategies you can actually use—because the best coaching skills don't perish. Everyone has a coach in their life, and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure pays off in every area—not just work.
Coaching youth sports can be one of the most rewarding things you can do, whether you're a parent, a former athlete, or someone who just wants to make a difference. It's an incredible opportunity to connect with people in a way that can genuinely shape who they become. Youth sports span the full range—from high-priced, high-stakes travel leagues to your local rec department. From paid coaches with professional experience, to the dad who just answered the 7,000th email asking for help. You won't find a show that cares more about coaches than this one, so this isn't one of those episodes that's here to bash the people who've stepped up when no one else would. What this episode will be is a look from multiple angles, through the lens of someone who's coached at a high level and is now a parent on the sidelines. What does real coaching actually look like? What should a good practice feel like? And how do we make sure we're giving kids our best—not just for them, but for the people who care the most and invest the most in their development: their parents. In this episode, we dig into those questions and more, including: A no-nonsense breakdown of what good coaching actually looks like—and what it absolutely isn't Quick-hit checklist to help overworked coaches stay focused and run practices with fewer vague corrections, clearer demonstrations, and a whole lot more fun Common habits that hijack practice—like overtalking and underengaging—and what to do instead A simple, realistic framework for structuring practice time so the most important lessons actually stick Creative ways to split the room or field into stations that maximize engagement for every kid, no matter their skill level
Why can't someone else step up and do this? How come I'm always the one who has to do everything? What more do I have to do before someone finally takes some initiative? If you've ever asked yourself these questions—or just quietly felt them—you're not alone. That heavy sense of responsibility, the emotional and cultural weight of having to carry your team day after day, will wear you down. And if you don't have a plan to offload that burden and bring others into ownership, it's only a matter of time before burnout sets in. But what do you do when some team members aren't exactly charismatic—or worse, seem like they're only halfway committed? This episode hits close to home, pulled straight from a challenge one of our mentoring clients has been facing for years. It's also something Brett knows firsthand. In this episode, we'll cover: The main shortcoming of servant-based leadership, and how to overcome it How to diagnose energy leaks in your ecosystem before they push you into burnout The 3 types of energy brokers on your team—and how to actually get contributions from each How to create a system of shared ownership and delegate tasks based on real strengths Leading strategically by removing barriers and making sure you're not the one holding the team back You Do Everything for Everyone. It's Time to Reset. This September, we're hosting a retreat in Phoenix, AZ—built for those who carry it all. Ten years in the making, this event is designed to give you tools to slow down, recalibrate, and breathe again. We're teaming up with professionals like Taylor Somerville and Lauren Vestal to introduce breathwork, recovery strategies, and techniques to help you downregulate and bring some peace back into your day-to-day life. You'll also get space to move, connect, and troubleshoot how to have the tough conversations you've been avoiding—so you can show up for yourself as much as you do for everyone else. Lies, Propaganda, Story Telling, and the Serrated Edge: This year our national conference is in Knoxville, TN October 6th-8th. The theme of this year’s conference is Lies, Propaganda, Storytelling and the Serrated Edge. Satan is the father of lies, and the mother of those lies is a government who has rejected God. We have especially been lied to these last two years, and the COVIDpanic has been one of the central mechanisms that our government has used to lie to us and to grab more power. God has given us His word to fight Satan and his lies, and we need to recover all of God’s word, its serrated edge and all. The high court on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, which for nearly 50 years had granted women the constitutional right to abortions. More than a dozen states set so-called trigger laws to take immediate effect banning or severely limiting abortions in the event Roe v. Wade was overturned. Trigger laws were also being challenged in Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas. A state judge in Louisiana issued a temporary restraining order Monday barring the state from enforcing its ban, leading to the immediate resumption of the procedure. Orleans Parish Civil District Judge Robin Giarrusso granted the request of plaintiffs Hope Medical Group for Women and Medical Students for Choice. Hours later, Utah Third District Judge Andrew Stone halted that state's trigger law effective immediately under a 14-day temporary restraining order requested by the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah. "There is irreparable harm that has been shown," Stone said in granting the order. "Affected women are deprived of safe, local medical treatments to terminate pregnancies." Planned Parenthood lawyer Julie Murray argued that because patients had access to abortion for five decades, halting the procedure with such short notice had reverberating impacts for Utah women. The nonprofit organization's facilities in Utah had more than 55 patients scheduled for abortion appointments this week, it said in its emergency request Saturday for a temporary restraining order. Utah Solicitor General Tyler Green argued that nothing in the state's constitution specifically protects a right to abortion and that the interest of the unborn weighs as heavily as the harm to would-be patients under prohibition. Providers in Louisiana stopped performing abortions Friday, unsure of the legality of the practice because of the vagueness of the bill, reproductive rights groups said. Attorney General Jeff Landry said Monday that his office will go to court to support the abortion ban, which he said was "enacted by the people" of Louisiana. "We are fully prepared to defend these laws in our state courts, just as we have in our federal courts," Landry said in a statement. In a statement Friday, Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards declared that he is "unabashedly pro-life and opposed to abortion" but said he is seeking changes to Louisiana's trigger law — first put in place in 2006 — because it has no exceptions for rape and incest. "As I have said many times before, I believe women who are survivors of rape or incest should be able to determine whether to continue with a pregnancy that is the result of a criminal act," Edwards said Friday. Ladiess and gentleman, we need to be praying for our nation, because the devil and his minions are still at work. We need to keep fighting, and taking ground. We now shift our eyes to the Lone Star state, as: Austin City Council Members Propose Local Resolution to ‘Decriminalize’ Killing a Child https://texasscorecard.com/local/austin-city-council-members-propose-local-resolution-to-decriminalize-killing-a-child/ After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week—allowing states to outlaw the practice of dismembering, poisoning, or using any other means to kill a baby in the womb—the Democrat-run Austin City Council wants to retaliate. Councilmembers Vanessa Fuentes and Jose “Chito” Vela have proposed the “Guarding the Right to Abortion Care for Everyone (GRACE)” Act, a resolution aiming to effectively “decriminalize” abortion in Austin. The document recommends the Austin Police Department not store reports of soon-to-be-illegal abortions, give related information to other government agencies, nor investigate the businesses exterminating the preborn children. Ironically, the resolution refuses to recognize women, instead labeling them as “pregnant people.” Texas has a coming state law (to be activated within 30 days) to ban the abortion practice statewide, and similar existing laws were already on the books before the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. However, district attorneys across Texas and the Austin City Council are trying to find ways to avoid enforcing the upcoming ban. KJP on San Antonio horror: It's a fact that the border is closed https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2022/06/28/kjp-on-san-antonio-horror-its-a-fact-that-the-border-is-closed-n479296 Fact checkers, start your engines. Or at least those fact checkers who still check facts on claims made by government officials, who seem to be a dying breed these days. After the deaths of at least 46 illegal immigrants in San Antonio, Texas and the worst human-trafficking disaster in recent memory, Governor Greg Abbott blamed Joe Biden and the 17-month border crisis that is still raging in his state and others along the border. The official response from the White House is: Border crisis, you say? What border crisis? https://twitter.com/i/status/1541774525985132544 - Play all audio It is not a fact that the border is closed, and it’s not a fact that this smuggling attempt proves it. We’ll get to both in a moment, but this is one strategy of many for breaching the border, and in this case it worked. The truck got through the border, didn’t it? How did that happen? The ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico international border continues to worsen. Evidence from U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) recent data release shows that Border Patrol encountered the highest number of illegal immigrants this past May compared to previous months. Agents working along the southern border encountered 239,416 illegal immigrants, a historic record. To accommodate the staggering number, CBP had to increase the Y-axis on its line graph detailing border encounters. This is the second time this has happened during Joe Biden’s presidency. Out of the over 200,000 migrants who illegally crossed the border, 100,699 of them were removed from the U.S. under Title 42. Over 177,000 people encountered by Border Patrol were first time crossers, a 15 percent jump compared to April. A couple of weeks before that, Julio noted that the recent wave has been fueled in part by Biden’s effort to end pandemic-related Title 42 enforcement at the border. A judge forced the administration to keep it in place, but word hasn’t gotten to the wave of migrants hoping to take advantage of the opening: While many have decided not to illegally cross at this time, other groups of people decided that since they have made it this far in their journey, they will make the final step and illegally enter the United States. In the late afternoon, Border Patrol was processing a large group that turned themselves in. Does that sound like the border is “closed,” and that it’s a “fact”? Or does it sound more like Biden and his team keep signaling a reluctance to enforce border security and a desire to allow people to flood across into the US? Sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell sentenced to 20 years in prison https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-to-20-years-in-prison?utm_campaign=64487 Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for her roll in aiding former financier and prolific sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in abusing young girls. She faced a maximum sentence of up to 80 years. Maxwell was convicted in December of recruiting and trafficking four teenage girls for sexual abuse by her then-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein's life famously ended under suspicious circumstances in a New York prison after being placed on suicide watch. He never faced trial. According to the New York Post, Maxwell's lawyer, Bobby Sternheim, said Saturday that "Ghislaine Maxwell is on suicide watch — but isn’t really suicidal." Sternheim claims Maxwell was put in solitary confinement on placed on suicide watch "without justification," adding "She [Maxwell] is not suicidal." He adds that Maxwell's June 28th sentencing, where she will face the possibility of up to 55 years in prison, may need to be delayed. That’s gunna do it for this CrossPolitic Daily NewsBrief. Sign up now at flfnetwork.com https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-new-york-supreme-court-strikes-down-law-that-allowed-non-citizens-to-vote?utm_campaign=64487 New York Supreme Court strikes down law that allowed non-citizens to vote New York City's City Council approved a measure in January to give non-citizens the right to vote in local elections. But after a suit was brought by the GOP lawmakers, the New York Supreme Court ruled that no, non-citizens do not have the right to vote. The plan would have added some 800,000 New Yorkers to the voting rolls, and would have allowed them to vote for mayor, public advocate, city council, borough presidents, and school boards. Justice Ralph Porzio said that the law was in direct violation of the New York State Constitution. "The New York State Constitution expressly states that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections," he said. "Though voting is a right so many citizens take for granted, the City of New York cannot 'obviate' the restrictions imposed by the Constitution," Porzio continued, going on to say that "the weight of the citizens’ vote will be diluted by municipal voters and candidates and political parties alike will need to reconfigure their campaigns." The bill allowed non-citizens to register in political parties and vote in local elections if they hold green cards or have working visas. The only additional requirement for non-citizens is that they have been residents of New York City for a mere 30 days. In striking down the law, Porzio said that "Though Plaintiffs have not suffered harm today, the harm they will suffer is imminent." The bill was slated to go into effect for the 2023 election year. Outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio was not in favor of the measure, but agreed to sign the law anyway. Current Mayor Eric Adams was on board with the bill, saying that while the bill might not be legal, green card holders should get the vote. The idea was that because they were impacted by local leaders, and were being taxed, they should also vote, despite that being a right only for US citizens. The bill was touted by immigrant activists as necessary, because those immigrant non-citizens pay taxes and should therefore be permitted to vote. Staten Island City Councilman Joe Borelli said of the ruling that: "Today's decision validates those of us who can read the plain English words of our state constitution and state statutes: Noncitizen voting in New York is illegal, and shame on those who thought they could skirt the law for political gain. Opposition to this measure was bipartisan and cut across countless neighborhood and ethnic lines, yet progressives chose to ignore both our constitution and public sentiment in order to suit their aims. I commend the court in recognizing reality and reminding New York's professional protestor class that the rule of law matters." https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-offering-johnny-depp-301-million-to-return-to-movie-franchise-report?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dwbrand Disney Offering Johnny Depp $301 Million To Return To Movie Franchise: Report Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is reportedly set to return to Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise after the entertainment giant offered Depp a whopping $301 million to return the role. Depp was let go from the franchise in 2018 after starring in five movies, making the film’s box office successes and some of the most profitable movies of all time. A jury recently found that Amber Heard defamed Depp in an op-ed about domestic violence, published by The Washington Post in 2018. It was alleged that Depp was let go from “Pirates of the Caribbean” in part because of the claims made in that op-ed. An insider told the Australian outlet Poptopic that Disney is “very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp. They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another ‘Pirates’ film or two.” “I know corporate sent him a gift basket with a very heartfelt letter, but I’m unsure how it was received,” the source alleged. “But what I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow — so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.” According to Poptopic’s insider, the company is “prepping a deal for USD$301 million deal that will include a sizable donation to a charity of Depp’s choice. The deal is reportedly for Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and a spin-off Disney Plus series about the early life of the Captain of The Black Pearl.” Following his legal victory, Depp said in a statement, “Six years later, the jury gave me my life back … I am truly humbled.” Personally, as much as I love Johnny’s portrayal of Captain Jack, I think it’s time for he and the franchise to end… the movies just weren’t as good, but as we all know Disney, I’m sure they’ll want to keep their cash cow afloat. "The gas station owner is the least responsible for high prices. The cost of theft gets passed on in higher prices, and when people are driving around with unsecured stolen fuel, it is a concern to anybody."Air Force veteran co-founder of NGT Academy, a network engineering and cybersecurity training academy, Terry Kim said: "It's really sad because who's really losing out in these types of situations is the gas station owner.""You can literally put them completely out of business [into] bankruptcy by doing this kind of stuff. Even though stealing oil might be helping people or getting free gas, this is really a bad thing for these gas station owners," he said.In Virginia Beach, Virginia earlier this month, police observed "numerous vehicles" using devices to pump gas from a Citgo station that was closed at the time. "Individuals were then selling the gasoline at a discounted rate through a phone application and had advertised the operation on social media. It was determined that thousands of dollars worth of gasoline was stolen from the business over several days," the Virginia Beach Police Department said in a June 14 press release. As Fox News reproted: To protect themselves from cyberattacks, fuel retailers should make sure their networks are up-to-date and properly secured so that their technology infrastructure has no vulnerabilities, or weaknesses allowing hackers to infiltrate their networks and steal or change information. Stores and franchises should also train their employees, Kim and NGT Academy co-founder Jacob Hess said.More thieves are stealing gas in the United States, with 25% of fuel retailers reporting an increase in gas thefts.Physical gas thefts not involving cyberattacks are another issue. Now it’s time for the topic that I love… sports! https://nypost.com/2022/06/26/novak-djokovic-wont-get-covid-vaccine-to-play-us-open/ Novak Djokovic won’t change mind on COVID vaccine to play US Open Novak Djokovic knows that, as things stand now, Wimbledon will be his last Grand Slam tournament of 2022, because he will not be able to play in the U.S. Open — he has not received any COVID-19 shots and can’t enter the United States as an unvaccinated foreigner. “That,” the 35-year-old from Serbia said Saturday at the All England Club, “is an extra motivation to do well here.” Djokovic began this season tied with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at 20 major championships, then the record for a man. But Djokovic’s decision not to get vaccinated led to his deportation from Australia before the Australian Open in January — and Nadal wound up winning that tournament to get his 21st. Nadal then beat Djokovic in the quarterfinals at the French Open en route to earning his 22nd Slam title this month. When Wimbledon starts on Monday, Djokovic will have the honor of opening play at Centre Court as the defending champion. He is seeded No. 1 and will be bidding for a fourth consecutive title at the All England Club and seventh overall. “Hopefully I can have a very good tournament, as I have done in the last three editions. Then I’ll just have to wait and see. I would love to go to States. But as of today, that’s not possible,” said Djokovic, who has come down with COVID-19 twice. “There is not much I can do anymore. I mean, it’s really up to the U.S. government to make a decision whether or not they allow unvaccinated people to go into the country.” A reporter noted that Djokovic does still have time to get vaccinated before play begins at Flushing Meadows on Aug. 29, and then asked him whether “you’ve completely closed your mind to that as an option.” Djokovic replied with one word: “Yes.” This has been your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief… If you liked the show, go ahead and hit that share button. It set up similar laws in other states for likely revocation. One of those states is California, where they have their own requirement that applicants must show a “good cause” or “special need” before a carry permit is issued. State Attorney General Rob Bonta sent out a letter on Friday to law enforcement and government attorneys noting the change and saying that the state’s current “may issue” regime should be able to be converted to a “shall issue” regime with few modifications. So that’s good news, right? Not so fast. As Eugene Volokh points out at Reason, Bonta pivoted from signaling compliance with the new SCOTUS ruling to identifying another way to deny permits to people with no criminal record. He claims that the ruling will not impact the existing requirement for applicants to be able to demonstrate that they are “of good moral character.” On that basis, the state can start snooping around to see if you hold any unauthorized opinions or are prone to demonstrate “hatred and racism.” And how would they know that? Well, by going through your social media accounts, of course. Other jurisdictions list the personal characteristics one reasonably expects of candidates for a public-carry license who do not pose a danger to themselves or others. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s policy, for example, currently provides as follows: “Legal judgments of good moral character can include consideration of honesty, trustworthiness, diligence, reliability, respect for the law, integrity, candor, discretion, observance of fiduciary duty, respect for the rights of others, absence of hatred and racism, fiscal stability, profession-specific criteria such as pledging to honor the constitution and uphold the law, and the absence of criminal conviction.” [Emphasis added.] As a starting point for purposes of investigating an applicant’s moral character, many issuing authorities require personal references and/or reference letters. Investigators may personally interview applicants and use the opportunity to gain further insight into the applicant’s character. And they may search publicly-available information, including social media accounts, in assessing the applicant’s character. As Volokh goes on to explain, this entire scheme appears to be completely unconstitutional. It’s a violation of the First Amendment before we even begin to examine how it would hold up under the Second Amendment. The government is not allowed to restrict your actions or suspend your Constitutional rights based on the viewpoints you express, even if they are unpopular with the current regime. https://americanmilitarynews.com/2022/06/us-troops-surpass-100000-in-europe The U.S. military has steadily built up its presence in Europe in the four months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. More than 100,000 U.S. troops are in Europe today, compared to around 70,000 around the start of the Russian invasion. Last week, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the U.S. “increased the number of U.S. troops in Europe from roughly 70,000 to more than 100,000 over these last months.” In addition to the overall U.S. force size in Europe, Stoltenberg noted there are more than 40,000 troops from various countries under NATO’s direct command that are positioned on the eastern edge of the alliance. NATO’s force consists of troops from a variety of alliance member nations. In a May 20 U.S. State Department press briefing, department spokesman Ned Price had confirmed the U.S. plans to maintain an ongoing presence of 100,000 troops in Europe. While the U.S. presence in Europe has risen in response to Russia, questions remain about whether the U.S. can maintain this presence in the long run. With no plans for the U.S. and NATO to directly intervene in the conflict in Ukraine — beyond providing Ukrainian forces weapons, supplies and training — the missions of U.S. and NATO forces is primarily to ensure the conflict in Ukraine doesn’t spill over into NATO countries. Bradley Bowman, senior director of the Center on Military and Political Power at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank told the Washington Times last week that the U.S. troop build-up in Europe could come at the expense of U.S. readiness in other parts of the world, like the Indo-Pacific region where Chinese forces have expanded their presence. Wade. As the New York Post reports, several others were arrested during the Los Angeles riot, including 23-year-old Juliana Bernardo who allegedly tried to steal a police officer's baton amid skirmishes with law enforcement. The pro-abortion protestors shut down the LA freeway, harassed and attacked drivers, broke building windows, and lobbed a firework explosive at police. Video posted by The Post Millennial's Andy Ngo shows Ortiz discharging the makeshift weapon while hiding behind a black bloc militant who was holding an umbrella. Ortiz allegedly fired the flames around 8:20 pm amidst a progressively violent riot. LAPD Police Chief Michel Moore said in a statement that, "Individuals participating in such criminal activity are not exercising their 1st Amendment rights in protest of the Supreme Court decision. Rather, they are acting as criminals. The Department will vigorously pursue prosecution of these individuals." The violence comes after radical pro-abortion groups have called for nationwide protests including one group, Jane's Revenge, promising a "Night of Rage" to protest the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade. Now let’s end with some good news, and the topic that I love… sports! https://www.foxnews.com/politics/high-school-football-coach-scores-big-win-supreme-court-post-game-prayer High school football coach scores big win at Supreme Court over post-game prayer The Supreme Court handed a big win to a former Washington high school football coach who lost his job over reciting a prayer on the 50-yard line after games. At issue was whether a public school employee praying alone but in view of students was engaging in unprotected "government speech," and if it is not government speech, does it still pose a problem under the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. The Supreme Court ruled Monday in a 6-3 decision that the answer to both questions is no. "Here, a government entity sought to punish an individual for engaging in a brief, quiet, personal religious observance doubly protected by the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment. And the only meaningful justification the government offered for its reprisal rested on a mistaken view that it had a duty to ferret out and suppress," Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the Court's opinion. "Religious observances even as it allows comparable secular speech. The Constitution neither mandates nor tolerates that kind of discrimination." Joe Kennedy was a junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach with the Bremerton School District in Washington from 2008 to 2015. He began the practice of reciting a post-game prayer by himself, but eventually students started joining him. According to court documents, this evolved into motivational speeches that included religious themes. After an opposing coach brought it to the principal's attention, the school district told Kennedy to stop. He did, temporarily, then notified the school that he would resume the practice. The situation garnered media attention, and when Kennedy announced that he would go back to praying on the field, it raised security concerns. When he did pray after the game, a number of people stormed the field in support. The school district then offered to let Kennedy pray in other locations before and after games, or for him to pray on the 50-yard line after everyone else had left the premises, but he refused, insisting that he would continue his regular practice. After continuing the prayers at two more games, the school district placed Kennedy on leave. "That reasoning was misguided," the majority opinion said. "Both the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment protect expressions like Mr. Kennedy’s. Nor does a proper understanding of the Amendment’s Establishment Clause require the government to single out private religious speech for special disfavor. " Gorsuch stated that not just the Constitution, but "the best of our traditions" call for "mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike." The Court's ruling also stated that there is a distinct reason for why speech like Kennedy's is protected by both the Free Speech and Free Exercise Clauses. "That the First Amendment doubly protects religious speech is no accident. It is a natural outgrowth of the framers’ distrust of government attempts to regulate religion and suppress dissent," Gorsuch wrote. This is Garrison Hardie, pinch hitting for Pastor Toby, for this Friday, June 24th, 2022. Today, we’ll cover Supreme Court STRIKES DOWN New York concealed carry restrictions, Nancy Pelosi's husband charged in his DUI case, The Military Vaccine Mandate is Under Review as Unvaccinated Public Servants Return to Work, and we’ll end with the topic that I love… sports! Let’s get to it: https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-supreme-court-strikes-down-new-york-concealed-carry-restrictions?utm_campaign=64487 Supreme Court STRIKES DOWN New York concealed carry restrictions In the case of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, the Supreme Court has ruled that a New York gun-control law that required citizens to show "proper cause" to obtain a concealed carry license is in violation of the Constitution. The vote broke down on party lines, 6-3. In the 135 page opinion, with the majority opinion written by Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas was joined in the majority by Justices Roberts, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. The opinion discusses the New York state law that made is a crime to own a firearm without a license, whether that possession was inside the home or external to it. The only way for New Yorkers to obtain an unrestricted permit was to prove that they had "proper cause" to do so. A person had to "demonstrate a special need for self-protection distinguishable from that of the general community." Two men, Brandon Koch and Robert Nash, applied for these permits and had them denied. They are "adult, law-abiding New York residents," who wanted to have the opportunity for self-defense. They were found by authorities to not have good enough reasons for wanting to carry, and so their permits were denied. They brought suit. The two claimed that both their Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights had been violated by the denial. Thomas writes that "New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense." "It is undisputed that petitioners Koch and Nash—two ordinary, law-abiding, adult citizens—are part of 'the people' whom the Second Amendment protects," Thomas said further, citing Heller. "And no party disputes that handguns are weapons 'in common use' today for self-defense," he wrote. "The Court has little difficulty concluding also that the plain text of the Second Amendment protects Koch's and Nash's proposed course of conduct—carrying handguns publicly for self-defense. Nothing in the Second Amendment’s text draws a home/public distinction with respect to the right to keep and bear arms, and the definition of 'bear' naturally encompasses public carry. Moreover, the Second Amendment guarantees an “individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation,'... and confrontation can surely take place outside the home." As to the state of New York's contention, Thomas writes that "the Court concludes that respondents have failed to meet their burden to identify an American tradition justifying New York’s proper-cause requirement." "The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not 'a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees,'" the Court states, citing McDonald. The 82-year-old was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with .08% blood alcohol level, according to the Napa County District Attorney's Office. "Based upon the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim, the District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges. This decision is consistent with how our office handles these cases with similar injuries," the office said in a statement. Paul Pelosi had been driving a 2021 Porsche 911 toward a Pelosi country house in Napa Valley around 10 p.m. local time on May 28 when a Jeep rammed into his vehicle as he attempted to cross the highway, the New York Times reported. No one was injured in the incident. Pelosi was booked at Napa County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher and was released several hours later after posting $5,000 bail, records show. He is expected to appear in Napa County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. PST on Aug. 3, the county district attorney's office said last Thursday. "The punishment for driving under the influence causing injury as a misdemeanor is set by California law. It includes up to five years of probation, a minimum of five days in jail, installation of an ignition interlock device, fines and fees, completion of a court ordered drinking driver class, and other terms as appropriate," the district attorney's office said on Thursday. Prior to the accident, Paul Pelosi underwent cataract surgery and the night before, he had attended a dinner with Alexander Mehran, a friend and Democratic donor, according to the New York Times. A previous statement from a representative for Paul Pelosi said he was alone in his car, CBS News reported, adding that he was "fully cooperative" with authorities. When asked for comment on charges, a spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi referred the Washington Examiner to a communications firm that stated, "We are declining comment at this time. Military Vaccine Mandate Under Review as Unvaccinated Public Servants Return to Work https://www.theepochtimes.com/military-vaccine-mandate-under-review-as-unvaccinated-public-servants-return-to-work_4550902.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Unvaccinated public servants were allowed back to work on June 20, including civilians of the Department of National Defence (DND), but unvaccinated Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel will have to wait for their employer’s review of the vaccine mandate to know their fate. “Given updated guidance from the Treasury Board, we are currently reviewing the CDS [Chief of Defence Staff] Directives on COVID-19 Vaccination, in order to maintain a safe working environment and while remaining ready to conduct CAF operations in support of Canadians at home and around the world,” DND said in an emailed statement on June 22. “In the meantime, the CDS Directives remain in effect for CAF members until further notice.” The CDS directive, which was issued in October, allowed for exemptions under medical, religious, or human rights grounds, but not many have been granted. Out of 1,300 exemption requests, DND says that as of May 31 only 157 were granted, with 98 for religious reasons, 42 for medical reasons, and 17 for “other reasons” (which can include claims of discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act). The department says that as of June 15, the voluntary release of 103 regular forces members has been granted by the CAF. Those members cited the directive on vaccination as the primary reason for seeking release. Another 234 CAF members have been released non-voluntarily for not complying with the directive. As of June 15, 805 soldiers face remedial measures. If the CAF judges those measures to be unsuccessful, further administrative actions can be taken leading to release. DND says 463 personnel are under administrative review. Lawyer Philip Millar, a CAF combat arms veteran, is representing about 30 armed forces members affected by the vaccine mandate. He predicts the CDS will not expedite the review in order to release as many non-compliant personnel as possible. “Now that it’s clear that the mandates are untenable, unjustifiable, and unconscionable, the CDS is dragging its feet because the longer they wait, the more people get released,” he said. Millar was set to debate a motion in court on the CAF vaccine mandate this week but the hearing was postponed. “I’m sure they knew [the motion] was going to be successful, and that’s why the government changed it, but they’re playing games with people’s lives,” he says. Now for the topic that I love… sports! https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34136486/qb-arch-manning-no-1-recruit-2023-class-commits-texas QB Arch Manning, No. 1 recruit in 2023 class, commits to Texas The recruitment of blue-chip quarterback Arch Manning, a rare collision of talent, pedigree and possibility, captivated college football for years. Manning ended the intrigue Thursday afternoon, committing to Texas over suitors that included Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Virginia. Although Manning has long been considered the top player in the class of 2023, the family remained intent on attempting to keep his recruitment as low-key as possible. His Instagram is private, and he has not been an active participant in name, image and likeness opportunities. But keeping things low-key has still been difficult, considering the family's football history and the magnitude of how much his decision could sway a program's fortune. Manning even used his first tweet to make the announcement, on a verified Twitter account with a bio that simply says "high school student." Texas coach Steve Sarkisian also reacted to Manning's announcement, first retweeting his new quarterback recruit then writing "All Gas, No Brakes!!!" in a follow-up post. Manning is a nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, a grandson of Archie Manning and son of former Ole Miss wide receiver Cooper Manning. He is the star quarterback at Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans -- throwing for 5,731 yards and 72 touchdowns in his first three years of high school football -- and has been considered a top-flight prospect since middle school. Any morsel of news around the quarterback has rippled significantly throughout the recruiting universe. The commitment of Manning's high school teammate and close friend Will Randle, a three-star tight end who committed to Texas earlier this week, drew interest as it represented a bellwether for where Manning could be leaning. Manning's commitment to Texas represents him both carving his own path and perhaps reuniting with the family's SEC roots. The Manning family has strong ties at Ole Miss and Tennessee, and Arch Manning could end up as a link to the SEC, as he could be Texas' starting quarterback in 2025, when the Longhorns are slated to debut in the conference. The commitment represents Texas' first No. 1 overall recruit in the ESPN 300 era (since 2006) and its first quarterback ranked in the top 20 since Garrett Gilbert in 2009. It also gives Texas a key building block for its 2023 recruiting class, with skill players expected to be attracted to playing with a talent such as Manning. The decision marks a massive win for Sarkisian, especially coming off a 5-7 debut season that included a home loss to Kansas. Manning's decision reaffirms Sarkisian as one of the country's top quarterback tutors and Texas as a quarterback destination. Sarkisian is the Longhorns' playcaller and has coached such quarterbacks as Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones and Matt Leinart. Thanks for tuning into this CrossPolitic Daily NewsBrief. This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Monday, June 20th, 2022. Here’s what you may have missed, over the weekend! On Saturday, game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Colorado Avalanche, and the Tampa Bay Lightning took place. The Avalanche took game 1, so Tampa Bay really wanted to even up the series as it shifts back to Florida today… and well… here’s how it went. If you’re a Tampa Bay fan, cover your ears! Cup Final, Gm2: Lightning @ Avalanche 6/18 | NHL Playoffs 2022 Play 0:48-1:05 Play 2:11-2:27 Play 3:40-3:55 Play 5:15-5:27 Play 6:25-6:35 Play 7:43-7:55 Play 8:15-8:30 https://www.outkick.com/nichushkin-stays-hot-avalanche-take-commanding-2-0-series-lead-over-lightning-in-stanley-cup-final/ What you just heard was the absolute demolition of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche. The Tampa Bay Lightning came into Game 2 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final with a plan. But like Mike Tyson once said, everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the face. Or in this case, an avalanche of seismic proportions. Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said the key to evening up the series at two was weathering the storm in the first 10 minutes from the Colorado Avalanche. And yet, after those 10 crucial minutes of play inside Ball Arena, Colorado held a 2-0 advantage — just as they did in Game 1. The Avalanche’s onslaught started early and never let up, as Colorado defeated Tampa Bay, 7-0, to take an all-important 2-0 series lead. Why’s that so important, you ask? Teams leading 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final are 47-5 all-time. The touchdown + extra point loss is Tampa Bay’s worst in its playoff history, topping the 5-0 defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 1 this year and the 6-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers back in 1996, the franchise’s first ever playoff appearance. The Avalanche have now scored 11 goals through two games in the series and are 14-2 overall during the playoffs. The seven-goal margin is the largest in a Stanley Cup Final game since 1991, when the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Minnesota North Stars, 8-0, in Game 6 of the series. The series will now shift back to Tampa Bay for Games 3 and 4, with the Lightning looking for any sort of jolt from the Amalie Arena crowd. Puck drop for Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Lies, Propaganda, Story Telling, and the Serrated Edge: This year our national conference is in Knoxville, TN October 6th-8th. World swimming bans transgender athletes from women’s events World swimming’s governing body has effectively banned transgender women from competing in women’s events, starting Monday. FINA members widely adopted a new “gender inclusion policy” on Sunday that only permits swimmers who transitioned before age 12 to compete in women’s events. The organization also proposed an “open competition category.” “This is not saying that people are encouraged to transition by the age of 12. It’s what the scientists are saying, that if you transition after the start of puberty, you have an advantage, which is unfair,” James Pearce, who is the spokesperson for FINA president Husain Al-Musallam, told The Associated Press. “They’re not saying everyone should transition by age 11, that’s ridiculous. You can’t transition by that age in most countries and hopefully you wouldn’t be encouraged to. Basically, what they’re saying is that it is not feasible for people who have transitioned to compete without having an advantage.” Pearce confirmed there are currently no transgender women competing in elite levels of swimming. The World Professional Association for Transgender Health just lowered its recommended minimum age for starting gender transition hormone treatment to 14 and some surgeries to 15 or 17. FINA’s new 24-page policy also includes proposals for a new “open competition” category. The organization said it was setting up “a new working group that will spend the next six months looking at the most effective ways to set up this new category.” Pearce told the AP that the open competition would most likely mean more events, but those details still need to be worked out. The members voted 71.5% in favor at the organization’s extraordinary general congress after hearing presentations from three specialist groups — an athlete group, a science and medicine group and a legal and human rights group — that had been working together to form the policy following recommendations given by the International Olympic Committee last November. The IOC urged shifting the focus from individual testosterone levels and calling for evidence to prove when a performance advantage existed. FINA said it recognizes “that some individuals and groups may be uncomfortable with the use of medical and scientific terminology related to sex and sex-linked traits (but) some use of sensitive terminology is needed to be precise about the sex characteristics that justify separate competition categories.” In March, Lia Thomas a man, made history in the United States as the first man to win woman’s NCAA swimming championship, the 500-yard freestyle. The coward, Thomas said last month on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that he was aiming to become an Olympic swimmer. He also disputed those who say he has an unfair biological edge that ruins the integrity of women’s athletics, saying “trans women are not a threat to women’s sports.” The University of Pennsylvania didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Thomas. Other sports have also been examining their rules around transgender athletes. On Thursday, cycling’s governing body updated its eligibility rules for transgender athletes with stricter limits that will force riders to wait longer before they can compete. The International Cycling Union (UCI) increased the transition period on low testosterone to two years, and lowered the maximum accepted level of testosterone. The previous transition period was 12 months but the UCI said recent scientific studies show that “the awaited adaptations in muscle mass and muscle strength/power” among athletes who have made a transition from male to female takes at least two years. From sports, let’s go to entertainment, to infinity and beyond!!! https://variety.com/2022/film/box-office/box-office-lightyear-disappoints-1235298248/ Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ Underwhelms With $51 Million Debut as ‘Jurassic World’ Stays No. 1 To infinity and beyond? Not exactly… “Lightyear,” a spinoff story set in Pixar’s “Toy Story” universe, fell short of that boundless milestone in its box office debut, collecting a lackluster $51 million from 4,255 North American theaters. Family audiences, the movie’s prime demographic, haven’t returned to theaters in full force since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, those ticket sales are disappointing for a brand as recognizable as Pixar, the home of “The Incredibles,” “Finding Nemo” and “Up.” It’s particularly problematic given that “Lightyear” cost $200 million to produce and tens of millions more to market. Heading into the weekend, the Disney film was expected to generate at least $70 million. But its ambitions were thwarted by heightened competition from Universal’s behemoth “Jurassic World Dominion” and Paramount’s high-flying “Top Gun: Maverick,” as well as little intrigue to watch a slightly esoteric origin story about Buzz Lightyear, one that had only a tenuous connection to the four films in the popular kid-friendly franchise. With its wobbly liftoff, “Lightyear” landed in second place, becoming one of the rare Pixar films to not take the top spot at the domestic box office. Internationally, “Lightyear” earned $34.6 million from 43 markets, taking its global total to $85.6 million. The movie was banned in smaller foreign markets, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, because it depicts a same-sex kiss. Notably, “Lightyear” is the first Pixar movie to play on the big screen in more than two years — since “Onward” in March 2020. During the pandemic, three of the animation studio’s titles — “Soul,” “Luca” and “Turning Red” — skipped theaters to land directly on Disney+, leaving some box office analyst to question if consumers have been trained to watch Pixar movies at home. Other industry experts question if Disney is relying too heavily on brand recognition and not enough on execution. It’s not that people disliked the movie, which landed an “A-” CinemaScore and 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. But Disney certainly hoped that more ticket buyers would feel compelled to see “Lightyear” in theaters over the weekend. Believe me, I would have loved to see this movie. I mean, Toy Story was a part of my child-hood growing up, so it really pained me to see the headlines that they were going to force a gay kiss into the movie… based on that, I, and many of the people I’ve spoken with, refused to see the movie, as I’m sure all of our audience would agree. Even with a colossal 60% decline, “Jurassic World Dominion” managed to capture the box office crown again in a surprise upset. Universal’s prehistoric sequel generated $58.6 million from 4,697 cinemas in its second weekend of release, bringing its domestic total to $259 million. In third place, “Top Gun: Maverick” keeps flying high with a mammoth $44 million from 4,035 venues in North America, marking a scant 15% drop from last weekend. You know what those two shows have in common? They just tried to entertain the audience… not educate, or force satanic themes upon us. Anything directed by the great John Williams is just amazing… On June 20th, 1975, Jaws, a film directed by Steven Spielberg that made countless viewers afraid to go into the water, opens in theaters. The story of a great white shark that terrorizes a New England resort town became an instant blockbuster and the highest-grossing film in movie history until it was bested by 1977’s Star Wars. Jaws was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture category and took home three Oscars, for Best Film Editing, Best Original Score and Best Sound. The film, a breakthrough for director Spielberg, then 27 years old, spawned several sequels. The film starred Roy Scheider as principled police chief Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as a marine biologist named Matt Hooper and Robert Shaw as a grizzled fisherman called Quint. It was set in the fictional beach town of Amity, and based on a best-selling novel, released in 1973, by Peter Benchley. Subsequent water-themed Benchley bestsellers also made it to the big screen, including The Deep (1977). With a budget of $12 million, Jaws was produced by the team of Richard Zanuck and David Brown, whose later credits include The Verdict (1982), Cocoon (1985) and Driving Miss Daisy (1989). Filming, which took place on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, was plagued by delays and technical difficulties, including malfunctioning mechanical sharks. Jaws put now-famed director Steven Spielberg on the Hollywood map. Spielberg, largely self-taught in filmmaking, made his major feature-length directorial debut with The Sugarland Express in 1974. The film was critically well-received but a box-office flop. Following the success of Jaws, Spielberg went on to become one of the most influential, iconic directors in the film world, with such epics as Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), ET: the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Jurassic Park (1993), Schindler’s List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). E.T., Jaws and Jurassic Park rank among the highest-grossing movies of all time. This has been your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. https://youtu.be/MYA-KAs9uZ0 -Play 0:00-0:27 Will there be war between China & Taiwan? That was Taiwan’s minister of foreign affairs, Joseph Wu responding, you’ll hear more from him in a moment. Happy Friday ladies and gentleman, this is Garrison Hardie, pinch hitting for Pastor Toby, for this Friday, June 17th, 2022. Today, we’ll be talking about the potential of war between Taiwan, and China, the U.S. is still supplying Ukraine with weapons, and urging its allies to not lose steam with regards to supporting Ukraine militarily, a big win for Republicans in a historically blue south Texas, and a university changes it’s mascot, because it wasn’t inclusive enough… Before we get to our news for the day, a word, from New St. Andrews! New Saint Andrews: Today’s culture shifts like sand. But New Saint Andrews College is established on Christ, the immovable rock. It is a premier institution that forges evangelical leaders who don’t fear or hate the world. Guided by God’s Word, they take the world back because they’re equipped with the genius of classical liberal arts and God-honoring wisdom, thanks to a faculty dedicated to academic rigor and to God’s kingdom.Find out more, at nsa.edu/ https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/13/world/asia/china-taiwan-ukraine-military.html So, back to Taiwan and China… ever since Russia began an assault against Ukraine, many have speculated that China may do the same to its neighbor Taiwan. Taiwan’s minister of foreign affairs, Joseph Wu, sees a lot of similarities between what’s happening in Ukraine, with Taiwan’s situation with China: https://youtu.be/MYA-KAs9uZ0 -Play 0:27-0:136 Did you catch that? He said, “China has said Taiwan is just another part of China.” That sounds pretty familiar to what Putin had said leading up to his invasion of Ukraine, where he was quoted as saying, “Ukraine is not just a neighboring country, it’s an integral part of our history, culture… modern Ukraine was created entirely by Russia. By Bolshevik Communist Russia to be exact.” Interesting. So what’s going on in Taiwan in preparation for a potential war? According to the New York Times, Taiwan’s defenses are, by many accounts, ill-equipped and understaffed. Its president, has vowed to defend the island, but she has struggled to impose a new strategic vision on the uniformed leadership. Taiwan spends billions on fighter jets and submarines, yet its conscripts barely get enough ammunition for training. The mandatory military service is seen by many as too short, and the reservist program, insufficiently rigorous. The military is building a professional force, but has struggled to recruit and retain highly skilled soldiers. On top of that… Taiwanese citizens are not allowed to be training with weapons of war… there are videos of them training with airsoft guns! Go look it up on Youtube right now. Not exactly the kind of preparation for all out war you want right? Thank God for the second amendment. I always hate the argument made by gun control supporters that say, “oh what do you think the average gun owner would have a chance against the federal troops?” Answer, yes, they would. We have 300 + million people in this country, about 42% of American households have guns in the home, and there are more guns than people here in the U.S… yes, they’d be a problem to those federal troops. Oh by the way, visit our friends at Armored Republic if you want to get armor that could stop bullets from the imperial troops… anyways. Underlying Taiwan’s defense dilemma is a question left unanswerable by design: Will the United States send military forces to Taiwan’s aid? In May, President Biden suggested he would, but the United States offers no explicit security guarantees, a strategy it hopes will avoid either provoking Beijing or emboldening Taiwan to declare formal independence. Mr. Xi has said he seeks a peaceful unification with Taiwan, and he may be deterred by the huge economic and diplomatic blowback China would suffer for an invasion. But China has also been pointed in its warnings. Its defense minister, Gen. Wei Fenghe, said over the weekend that Beijing would “fight to the very end” for Taiwan. It is sending fighter jets toward the island almost daily — including 30 aircraft in one day last month alone. The concern is that such maneuvers could, intentionally or otherwise, be a prelude to conflict. Now I mentioned Ukraine earlier, let’s see what’s going on over there. https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-zelenskyy-sweden-finland-jens-stoltenberg-1feb3640d59b05aceca62766d7d4f74d According to the Associated Press, US sending $1 billion more military aid to outgunned Ukraine Oh well good, at least this won’t add to our inflation. The U.S. announced it will send an additional $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, as America and its allies provide longer-range weapons they say can make a difference in a fight where Ukrainian forces are outnumbered and outgunned by their Russian invaders. President Joe Biden and his top national security leaders said Wednesday the U.S. is moving as fast as possible to get critical weapons to the fight, even as Ukrainian officials protest that they need more, faster, in order to survive. The latest package, the U.S. said, includes anti-ship missile launchers, howitzers and more rounds for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) that U.S. forces are training Ukrainian troops on now. All are key weapons systems that Ukrainian leaders have urgently requested as they battle to stall Russia’s slow but steady march to conquer the eastern Donbas region. The aid is the largest single tranche of weapons and equipment since the war began. Biden, who spoke by phone with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for about 40 minutes Wednesday, also said the U.S. will send $225 million more in humanitarian assistance to provide safe drinking water, medical supplies, food, health care, shelter and money for families to buy essential items. The U.S. remains committed, Biden said in a statement, “to supporting the Ukrainian people whose lives have been ripped apart by this war.” The aid comes as Austin convened a meeting in Brussels of more than 45 nations to discuss support for Ukraine. At the start of the meeting, he warned that the West must step up weapons deliveries to Ukraine and prove its commitment to helping the country’s military fight along a 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line in a grinding war of attrition with Russia. He told the participating nations, “We can’t afford to let up and we can’t lose steam. The stakes are too high.” Overall, since the war began in late February, the U.S. has committed about $5.6 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including this latest package. Officials said that about one-third of the latest $1 billion will be from presidential drawdown authority, which means the Pentagon will take weapons and equipment from it’s own stock and ship them to Ukraine. The remaining two-thirds would be equipment and weapons purchased from industry by the U.S. and then transferred to Ukraine. Flores beat Democrat Dan Sanchez in the special election for Texas’ 34th Congressional District. The seat was previously held by Rep. Filemon Vela (D) who stepped down earlier this year to become a lobbyist as all signs pointed to a brutal upcoming midterm election season for Democrats. Flores is now “the first GOP candidate to represent that area of the Rio Grande Valley since 1870,” the Houston Chronicle reported, adding that she is now “the first congresswoman born in Mexico.” To put this win into perspective for you guys, Hillary Clinton won Mayra’s county, Cameron County, by 33 points back in 2016. Biden won it by 13. The region has been devastated by Democrat President Joe Biden’s border crisis, something that has turned off many Hispanic voters that typically have voted for Democrats in the past. “Republicans have been eager to flip the seat as part of their new offensive in South Texas after Biden’s underperformance throughout the predominantly Hispanic region in the 2020 election. Flores and her allies spent over $1 million on TV ads in the special election,” the Texas Tribune reported. “The dynamic put Democrats into an unusual underdog position in a region of the state they have long dominated. Vastly outspent by Flores, Sanchez repeatedly compared the special election to a David vs. Goliath fight, with himself playing David.” MSNBC columnist Eric Michael Garcia panicked over the results of the election, saying that Democrats needed to be sounding the alarm immediately. Now for the topic that I love… sports! https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2022/06/15/george-washington-u-dumps-colonial-mascot-for-not-being-inclusive/ George Washington U. Dumps Colonial Mascot for Not Being ‘Inclusive’ George Washington University (GW) officials have decided to remove the school’s “Colonial” mascot following years of woke activists demanding the university ban it for not being “inclusive.” Students then suggested the university change its mascot to a “hippo” or a “riverhorse” instead. “After a thoughtful and deliberate process that engaged the university community for feedback, the George Washington University’s Board of Trustees has accepted the recommendation of a Special Committee to discontinue the use of the Colonials moniker,” GW announced in a statement. “The decision to change the Colonials moniker was not taken lightly,” the university added, before stressing that “a new moniker will help unify the university community and serve as a source of pride.” In a purported email shared to Twitter by Young Americas Foundation, the university went on stress that it is important for the new GW mascot to reflect “the values, strengths and diversity of our worldwide population.” The university added that choosing a new moniker “will require a deliberate and thoughtful process” that “will engage the entire GW community of alumni, students, friends, faculty and staff to ensure that everyone has the chance to be heard.” GW announcing that it has decided to scrap the Colonials comes after years of woke activists demanding the school change its mascot. The initial call to ban the university’s mascot began in 2018. In urging GW to end the Colonials, students argued the nickname may “discourage” the campus community due to it not being “inclusive.” Students then suggested the university change its mascot to a “hippo” or a “riverhorse” instead. Hippo? That is so not inclusive of fat people! I am sickened by these suggestions! The university said it will continue to use the Colonials mascot until a new nickname is chosen. The school’s new moniker is expected to be introduced by the 2023-2024 academic year. This has been your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. Elon Musk’s Twitter deal, mass shooter stats, and electric cars running on coal???… and more on today’s CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. My name is Toby Sumpter and today is Friday, June 10, 2022. https://www.dailywire.com/news/twitter-reverses-course-over-complying-with-elon-musks-demands Daily Wire reports: Twitter’s Board of Directors reportedly now plans to comply with a demand from Elon Musk to turn over internal data after Musk threatened to terminate his $44 billion purchase of the company for refusing to provide details related to how many bot accounts are on the platform. “The information could be provided as soon as this week,” The Washington Post reported. “Currently some two dozen companies pay for access to the trove, which comprises not only a real-time record of tweets but the devices they tweet from, as well as information about the accounts that tweet.” An attorney for Musk said in a letter to Twitter’s general counsel and head of legal, policy, and trust, Vijaya Gadde, that the social media company was “actively resisting and thwarting his information rights” as agreed to in the contract. “This is a clear material breach of Twitter’s obligations under the merger agreement and Mr. Musk reserves all rights resulting therefrom, including his right not to consummate the transaction and his right to terminate the merger agreement,” the letter said. The number of fake accounts on the platform could inflate the company’s ad revenue and thus lead Musk to seek to renegotiate how much he is willing to pay for the company. https://twitter.com/sethdillon/status/1534745379941539841?s=21&t=83BQTMhFyDujbhv5HztW_A On Wednesday, Babylon Bee CEO tweeted: “BREAKING: Twitter just locked out @libsoftiktok for posting a thread about several recent drag shows for kids. The thread allegedly violates Twitter's rules against "abuse and harassment." You know what's actually abusive? Drag shows for kids.” You can promote drag shows for kids on Twitter. That's fine. You can even share videos of yourself performing in them. The only thing you can't do is criticize them. Somehow the feelings of a few drag queens matter more to Twitter than the corruption of a generation of children. Finally, Seth reported that the Libs of Tictok’s appeal had been rejected.
