And yes, we ask Vanessa all the spicy author questions you wish BookTok would. If you've ever whispered “I could fix him” to a morally gray demon with a scarred jaw and emotional trauma, this one's for you.

Big idea: When people reject God, a bramble will rise up. Bible teaching by Jonny Hall on the 15th June 2025.
Send us a textPour yourself a Bramble and join us for a delightfully silly political fantasy: What if Goofy ran for president? As we mix this raspberry-forward cocktail from Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, we craft a surprisingly thoughtful platform for Disney's most lovable klutz. With campaign slogans like "Not left, not right, just goofy" and "Leadership with a lopsided smile," we envision a presidency focused on kindness, community, and the occasional pie distribution program.Goofy's domestic policies would transform America into a "Joyful Nation" with tax breaks for dessert companies, federal employees required to dance throughout their workday, and expanded national parks. His "fun-jocational" approach to education would emphasize arts, outdoor learning, and yes—homework that involves watching cartoons. Meanwhile, his "Goofstead Act" would revitalize neighborhoods through community gardens, block parties, and local involvement in schools. We meticulously assemble Goofy's dream cabinet, debating which Disney characters would best complement his leadership style. Minnie Mouse earns unanimous approval as Chief of Staff for her organizational prowess, while former opponent Scrooge McDuck heads Treasury. Other inspired picks include Mulan for Defense, Pocahontas for Interior, and Donald Duck as Press Secretary (can you imagine those briefings?).By the time we reach Goofy's inauguration speech, our silly thought experiment reveals something meaningful: perhaps what America really needs is a leader who reminds us that "we don't need to be perfect to care for each other. Maybe we just need a big heart, an open ear, and courage to do what's right, even if we trip over our own shoes along the way."Subscribe for more pop culture cocktails and conversations that find surprising depth in delightfully goofy premises! Here's who we are and what is in store for you

Join Dan and Tom as they decode the 1943 movie, FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO. Is this World War II movie a spy movie? Listen as Dan tries to convince Tom it is, despite Tom's uncertainty. The story with this menacing title follows the exploits of Cpl. John Bramble in June 1942 after he fell out of his tank in the North African desert. Later on, he ends up meeting Rommel, The Desert Fox, himself. Most of the movie takes place inside the hotel “Empress of Britain”. It is a great setting. Also, something is interesting there underneath the first floor. The people behind this movie are top-notch. Billy Wilder directed and co-wrote it with Charles Brackett, adopting Lajos Biró's play “Hotel Imperial”. It garnered three Academy Award nominations and has an excellent cast. Specifically, Anne Baxter, Franchot Tone, Akim Tamiroff, and Erich von Stroheim play the leads. This is a movie where you don't want to be scanning your phone at the same time as you watch it. You need to pay close attention. However, by listening to this episode, you will enhance your viewing experience. We give you some things to look out for. What we will decode in this episode While we don't give away the key answers for this movie, these are the things we decode in our look at FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO: · Details on this great cast. · How it had a real-world impact on the war. · The humor in this serious movie. For example, we include a clip from the movie about bedbugs. · Without a doubt, there is a tie-in to Boris Karloff. What is it? · The production, cinematography, costuming, and the score. · What Tom thought Bramble needed to have with him on the tank. · The use of the German language. Authentic? · Opera in a World War II movie? · The dialogue - good, or bad? · Certainly, Rommel would not have said what he said at that lunch. Would he? · Answering Tom's question of if this is a spy movie · And more! What we don't answer is what the “five graves to Cairo” are. You need to watch the movie for that. Where to download the movie As of the time of the release of this episode (June 2025), you can stream this movie for free at: https://archive.org/details/five-graves-to-cairo-1943-billy-wilder. Tell us what you think about our no-spoiler review of FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO. So, take a listen and let us know what you think. Have you heard of FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO before this episode? As a result of listening to this episode, did you watch it? To sum up, if you have seen this movie, what do you think? Were we on point with our review? We see a beautiful parable today about trees and power. In this parable, the trees go to two other trees, the olive tree and the fig tree, and ask them to be their king. But, they say no, because while they do not have power, they have purpose. They are giving to others, and in that giving, they find purpose. Then they go to a vine and it says now, because likewise it has purpose. Finally, the thornbush, the bramble, says, Sure, I'll be your king. It has no purpose; it only seeks power. Because of that, everyone will be destroyed. Today, are we living for what we can get? Or what can we give? Are we trees? Or are we bramble? In this episode of Becoming Witchy, we talk about the transformative power of mending — both in objects and in our own lives, as well as its potential to be used in spellcraft. As a conservator, I've witnessed the inherent magic of piecing together what was once broken, drawing parallels to the healing that comes from repairing our hearts and relationships. From the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi to the symbolic strength of reforged swords in myth and legend, this episode is a reflection on how repair can be a potent act of resilience, renewal, and magic.Support the creation of the podcast on Patreon! Carissa Broadbent made a name for herself as a romantasy author to watch with the launch of Daughter of No Worlds in 2020. Her self-published War of Lost Hearts trilogy established her as one of the most popular new authors in the genre. Since then, she's signed with Bramble, who have released four books and one novella in her Crowns of Nyaxia series, and become a New York Times bestselling author. Bramble released the latest addition to the Crowns of Nyaxia series - Slaying the Vampire Conqueror - March 25, and today, Carissa is here to chat about her most obsessed MMC, how her approach to the worldbuilding for Crowns of Nyaxia differs from the approach she took when writing War of Lost Hearts, and whether one of her couples in the Nyaxia series would enjoy a date night at a rave. You can learn more about Carissa at her website and stay up to date with the latest news by joining her Facebook group or signing up for her newsletter. https://carissabroadbentbooks.com/ Exclusive retailer editions of Slaying the Vampire Conqueror are available at Barnes & Noble and Target.
Boxing is different. We all know that. We're allowed access into the lives of fighters in a way other sports don't provide with their athletes, and as a result we often feel as though we know them and are close to them. When we lose fighters, and especially fighters we cared for, it sure hurts. On this episode of the Knuckes and Gloves podcast, boxing historians Patrick Connor and Aris Pina team up to remember former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist "Big" George Foreman, and give a brief tribute to Ras-I Alujah Bramble, better known as Livingstone Bramble. May they both rest well forever. SUBSCRIBE! Follow us on social media! However, the group of Vagabonds soon realizes there are more horrors in the Woodland than they even knew!Content Warnings: Fantasy Violence, Drug Use (Alcohol), Sexually Suggestive Situations

In this episode of Becoming Witchy, we're diving into the often-misunderstood world of baneful magic—hexes, curses, and bindings. While these spells are frequently labeled as “bad” or taboo, it's important to explore their historical and cultural context. From protection to justice, these forms of magic have long been used by marginalized communities to reclaim power and prevent harm. We'll unpack the nuances of these practices, challenge ingrained stigmas, and discuss how intent and framing shape our perception of these types of magic.Plus, in Seasonal Corner, we celebrate the early signs of spring—magnolia blooms, seed-starting, and the fresh energy of the season. In this episode of Becoming Witchy, we explore the magic of glimmers—small, everyday moments of awe and connection that bring a sense of calm and wonder. As the opposite of triggers, glimmers can be powerful sources of magic, especially when woven into daily rituals. I share how I incorporate glimmers into my practice, from morning coffee spells to moonlit intentions, and how noticing these moments can strengthen intuition and deepen our connection to magic. We also celebrate the shifting seasons, reflecting on early signs of spring in the garden and the hope that February brings. Plus, I share my experience at a local anti-despair event, where I found inspiration in community activism and sustainable gardening efforts. Tune in for a blend of seasonal wisdom, magical insight, and a little bibliomancy to close out the episode!Becoming Witchy PatreonGlimmers: How to find pockets of joy in every day Hayley DoyleKeep in touch and up to date by following Bramble & Brimstone on instagram andbluesky, visit our website or shop, where you can sign up for our newsletter for monthly rituals, shop our wares, and get more Becoming Witchy content!
