We explore the history of Mustafar and Fortress Vader, from Ralph McQuarrie to The Rise of Skywalker.Did you know The Rise of Skywalker’s first scene opens on the volcanic planet of Mustafar? Did you know the Sith Wayfinder was apparently found by Kylo Ren in the ruins of Darth Vader’s Castle? We didn’t — until we read the TROS Visual Dictionary. And that inspired us to get into the details behind Fortress Vader in this week's episode. Force Material is a podcast exploring the secrets and source material of Star Wars with hosts Rohan Williams and Baz McAlister. There's a series of panels in the back half of the Fortress Vader story arc that gives you the Star Wars version of Michael Palin as the King of Swamp Castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And it's priceless. It's also probably not the most *important* thing about that story arc, since it also involves Lord Momin resurrecting himself, a genocidal lava attack, and Vader finally piercing the veil of time and attempting to bring his beloved Padme back to life. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***

Fresh of the heels of being deemed too obscure for the Star Wars Celebration podcast stage (Q: Who reads Star Wars comics anyway?A: About 200,000 do, every month.), we're looking at last week's Star Wars comics this week, including a rather stirring start of a new story arc in Doctor Aphra #26 and a thoroughly entertaining chapter of "Fortress Vader" in Darth Vader #23 that deftly blends subtle humor with a deeper lesson on the notion of maintaining balance in the force. There's also news and views, given Marvel's decision to scupper -- not cancel -- Chuck Wendig's Star Wars: Shadow of Vader five-issue mini series; A Star Wars Comic's decision to postpone its November release until December; the passing of Stan Lee and John Tyler Christopher's Yavin Princess Leia action-figure variant cover for Star Wars #58.This week's Star Wars comics include:Solo: A Star Wars Story #2Star Wars #57Stay in touch and up to date by following us on Twitter and Facebook.Like what you hear?
