There's a series of panels in the back half of the Fortress Vader story arc that gives you the Star Wars version of Michael Palin as the King of Swamp Castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And it's priceless. It's also probably not the most *important* thing about that story arc, since it also involves Lord Momin resurrecting himself, a genocidal lava attack, and Vader finally piercing the veil of time and attempting to bring his beloved Padme back to life. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***

Some of the best material in the Marvel new canon comic books has been the exploration of Darth Vader. Spanning multiple different series, including Kieron Gillen’s Vader series, Darth Vader has proven to be a rich vein of moral and spiritual storytelling. We spend a sizeable chunk of time discussing each collected edition of Charles Soule’s Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic series. We discuss Vader’s violent baptism into the Dark Side, his relationship with Sidious, as well as differing views on the will of the Force. Plus, the end of the comic provides an intriguing discussion of Vader’s turn to the light and what he may or may not have believed about his ultimate destiny. Fresh of the heels of being deemed too obscure for the Star Wars Celebration podcast stage (Q: Who reads Star Wars comics anyway?A: About 200,000 do, every month.), we're looking at last week's Star Wars comics this week, including a rather stirring start of a new story arc in Doctor Aphra #26 and a thoroughly entertaining chapter of "Fortress Vader" in Darth Vader #23 that deftly blends subtle humor with a deeper lesson on the notion of maintaining balance in the force. There's also news and views, given Marvel's decision to scupper -- not cancel -- Chuck Wendig's Star Wars: Shadow of Vader five-issue mini series; A Star Wars Comic's decision to postpone its November release until December; the passing of Stan Lee and John Tyler Christopher's Yavin Princess Leia action-figure variant cover for Star Wars #58.This week's Star Wars comics include:Solo: A Star Wars Story #2Star Wars #57Stay in touch and up to date by following us on Twitter and Facebook.Like what you hear? The much-vaunted and eagerly flaunted "Fortress Vader" story arc begins and it holds nothing back as Darth Vader's descent into despair gains speed. It's an unsettling but enjoyable start to this storyline and is filled with great promise.
