What happens when you come face to face with something that challenges everything you think you know about reality? In this extended interview, I sit down with Yossi Ronen, author of One: Face to Face Contact, who shares the extraordinary encounter he says changed his life forever while living in Los Angeles in 1981. We explore: • His close-encounter experience at age 21 and what he witnessed • Telepathic communication and collective consciousness • Out-of-body experiences and their connection to contact phenomena • The powerful white light of love he perceived through the experience • How his senses changed following the encounter • The connection between alien encounters and near-death experiences • Plant, animal, and human consciousness • Fear, spirituality, and the deeper questions surrounding reality Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or simply curious, this conversation is one that will leave you thinking long after it ends. A new New York Times investigation has revealed an astonishing alleged U.S.-Israeli plan behind the war with Iran: not just strikes on nuclear sites and missile capabilities, but a broader attempt at regime change, together with none other than Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Ronen Bergman joins Dan to explain how the plan was built, why Ahmadinejad became part of it, why it collapsed before it could fully begin, and what it means that the story is coming out while the war is still unresolved. In this episode: - Ronen's first reaction to the Ahmadinejad story - How Israel's goal shifted from strikes to regime change - Why the 12-day war left the core Iran problem unresolved - What the Mossad plan was supposed to do in the first 100 hours - Why Ahmadinejad was considered as an internal alternative - The strike that was meant to free Ahmadinejad - The plan for Kurdish forces to enter Iran, and why it never moved forward - Who benefits from this story going public This episode was sponsored by RootOne.

More than 50 days have passed since our last interview with Ronen in Israel, so it's time for another podcast! Many are wondering what It's REALLY like living in Israel right now (war, daily life & hope). Israel's somber HaZikaron (Memorial Day) was April 20-21, immediately followed by joyful celebrations for the 78th Independence Day. Israelis are hopeful, resilient people and life goes on, regardless of what you see on the news. School is in session, markets are open, and many people (including Ronen) are barbecuing and enjoying life with family and friends. Soon, God willing, our tour groups to Israel will back to walk the Land! Ronen Eckhouse, Co-Founder and CEO of Rapid Medical, identifies the limitations of current stroke treatments, which are primarily effective for large vessel occlusions. The Rapid Medical TIGERTRIEVER device is designed to safely and effectively treat strokes and remove clots in smaller vessels deeper in the brain. The unique adjustability of the device allows physicians to control the size and force during a procedure, allowing for precise and safer clot removal in complex anatomies. Ronen explains, "So the quicker or the less time there is between the stroke and the ability to open the occlusions and resupply the brain with oxygen, the better. There are two types of treatments. One is a drug called TPA. It's a clot buster, and that can be administered up to four and a half hours. And then there's what's called thrombectomy, which is basically using a catheter to get to the clot and then removing the clot with a catheter or stent, kind of in mechanical terms. But today, that's only applicable to what's for the bigger arteries in the brain, what's called large vessel occlusions. And these account for about 15% or 20% of the population. So there are good solutions, but they are limited in when they can be used." "That's exactly where we come in. The reason it's difficult to treat these kinds of smaller vessels in the brain, or what we call the medium-vessel occlusion, is that the deeper you go into the brain, on the one hand, the complexity of the procedure increases. So the vessels are a little bit more fragile. There are more turns and tortuosity. So getting to the clot is a little bit harder, and pulling it out as well." "At the same time, the benefit is a little bit smaller. So now we're not saving half of the brain. Maybe we're saving 30% of the brain, which is still very significant, but the benefit is a little bit smaller. So the risk-benefit ratio, which is critical and everything we do in medicine, changes when you're going deeper into the brain. And as a result, you need new tools." #RapidMedical #DMVO #MeVO #Stroke #StrokeCare #Neurology #MedTech #DISTALS #Neurovascular #MedicalDevices #HealthcareInnovation #Thrombectomy #PatientCare #MedicalTechnology #StrokeAwareness #HealthcareProfessionals rapid-medical.com Download the transcript here

Hey there fellow travelers of the Jundland Wastes! Today we have a special episode of the podcast in our favorite Cantina with three of my favorite guest co-hosts...Ian, Michael and Ronen. We chat about Star Wars movie marathons and the upcoming Maul series on Disney Plus as well as The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. The spring season is bringing new Star Wars and we're discussing it today on The Traveling the Jundland Wastes Podcast.
On this episode, Marc talks with Ronen Givony, author of "Us v. Them: The Age of Indie Music and a Decade in New York (2004-2014)," published in March of 2026. It's a fascinating history of the indie and underground music scene in Brooklyn during a time when Givony ran the Wordless Music concert series, worked for Nonesuch records, and pursued many other music-related activities. Givony divides the book into chapters on individual bands, curators, venues, and publications that had a huge effect on music in New York – groups such as Oneida, Parts and Labor, Weyes Blood, and Vagabon, and spaces such as Glasslands, Silent Bard, and Death by Audio. As he writes, "This is a book about a dozen or so individuals and bands with a curious claim to fame. A few of them achieved a degree of renown; a few would nearly make it big, only to self-destruct; as of this writing, though, none is a household name. Yet what they did was more decisive for the culture of New York than billionaire philanthropists whose names were carved in concert halls, more enduring than bands with fifty times their sales."You can buy "Us v. Them" here.We hope you enjoy Marc's chat with Ronen Givony!

Hello! Emilie here. For most of my adult life, Lizzy Goodman's Meet Me In the Bathroom has been the only definitive book about the New York music scene of my youth. The trouble is that a lot of important stuff happened alongside and after that, particularly across the river in Brooklyn. So, thank God for Ronen Givony. The founder of longtime concert series Wordless Music and former Le Poisson Rouge booker braved the wilds of the publishing industry to bring us the first comprehensive history of the Brooklyn music scene: Us vs. Them: The Age of Indie Music and a Decade in New York (out now via Abrams).Us vs. Them traces the years 2004 to 2014 and a wide cast of artists and other characters, some familiar, many not. But part of the point is to look past the usual suspects to talk about the lesser-known artists and promoters who built the scene, often with their very own hands. The book traces how Bush-era political dissatisfaction, cheap rents, and digital technology gave rise to one of those uniquely fertile cultural moments in music history that only come around every so often—you know, where great gigs felt endless, scenes felt possible, and you and your friends were the ones making it happen.Ronen joins us to discuss what it was like to chronicle a scene that, unlike the Manhattan scene of the Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Interpol, was geographically far-flung and features a lot of characters who never became household names or whose careers have been lost to time. We also get into what conditions made it possible for north Brooklyn to become home to a creative ecosystem that, in Ronen's words, “existed for a reason other than profit” and its complicated relationship to commerce, the media, and selling out. And we talk about what this history teaches us about how we might go about fostering culture in New York—and cities like it—today.Ronen was also kind enough to make us a playlist featuring artists from the book. Description: In this episode of the BOSS Business of Surgery Series, I sit down with Dr. Ronan Elefant, trauma surgeon, entrepreneur, and pilot, to explore a radically different way of delivering surgical care. Dr. Elefant shares how his background in biomedical engineering shaped his view of surgery, why he believes healthcare insurance should be reserved for catastrophic events, and how transparent, bundled cash pricing can lower costs while paying surgeons more. We discuss his company, ACES National Surgical Team, which leverages underutilized ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) nationwide—without building hospitals. We also dive into how aviation allows him to scale surgical access across multiple states, manage complications safely, and maintain quality of life—plus how mid-career surgeons can shift from achievement to mentorship without burning out. Keywords: surgery entrepreneurship, healthcare economics, cash-pay surgery, ambulatory surgery centers, surgeon business models, physician leadership, nontraditional surgical practice
CalmWave is tackling ICU alarm fatigue—a problem where patients generate up to 1,600 alarms per day because clinicians lack data-driven guidance on setting vital sign thresholds. The company processes 32 million data points daily from a single 14-hospital system by fusing high-frequency vital signs from Philips InteliBridge with EMR data from Epic in real time. This represents 10 billion data points annually at current run rate. Ophir Ronen, a sixth-time founder who previously sold to PagerDuty, built CalmWave by applying enterprise IT operations patterns to healthcare infrastructure. The company secured its first comprehensive system-wide agreement within months of launch and now holds 51 patents with 20 more pending as medical device manufacturers pursue distribution partnerships. Topics Discussed Why middleware interoperability is a prerequisite for clinical safety, not a feature The technical challenge of fusing 10x more data from vitals systems than EMR systems Building trust through transparent AI that exposes mathematical reasoning to clinicians Scaling from 7 million to 32 million daily data points across hospital rollout phases How CalmWave's common signal format enables data scientists to work with clean datasets Positioning alarm fatigue as a beachhead into broader hospital operations platforms The innovation investment arm validation pathway for startup enterprise sales Extending the signals-incidents-events pattern to energy, defense, and manufacturing GTM Lessons For B2B Founders Interoperability becomes your moat when it's a safety prerequisite: CalmWave couldn't provide safe alarm recommendations using only vital signs data without knowing which medications had been administered that could affect those vitals. This forced them to build bidirectional integration with both Philips InteliBridge (high-frequency vitals) and Epic EMR before addressing the clinical problem. The integration layer itself—which normalizes, enriches, and structures data into their common signal format—became defensible IP. Ophir noted that high-frequency vitals data is "erased on a rolling 30-day basis" at most hospitals, making CalmWave's fused dataset genuinely novel. Founders in healthcare or other regulated industries should identify whether data fusion across siloed systems is required for safety or efficacy, then build that integration capability as core infrastructure rather than expecting customers to solve it. Transparent AI sells better than black box AI in clinical environments: When presenting to 30 senior leaders including a notoriously difficult CMO, CalmWave walked through the mathematical basis of their algorithms—demonstrating exactly how they calculate safe alarm threshold adjustments. The CMO stood up mid-presentation and said, "You guys shouldn't even call yourselves AI. This is math and statistics. I understand exactly what you're doing. Well done. This is truly innovative." This validation from clinical leadership came from showing the work, not from accuracy metrics alone. Founders selling AI into risk-averse environments should build explainability into their core product architecture, enabling clinicians to understand why each recommendation is generated rather than treating interpretability as a post-hoc feature. Innovation investment arms provide validation pathways that bypass procurement: CalmWave's breakthrough came when an innovation investment arm from a major health system reached out after three months of due diligence, then placed them in front of clinicians. Two weeks before signing a comprehensive system-wide agreement, they presented to the C-suite. This pathway avoided traditional vendor procurement cycles. The innovation arm acted as internal champion, pre-validating the startup's approach before exposing them to decision-makers. Founders targeting large healthcare systems should identify which organizations have dedicated innovation or venture arms, recognizing these groups are measured on finding novel solutions rather than minimizing vendor risk. Beachhead problems in enterprise must be urgent enough to overcome startup friction: Ophir explicitly chose alarm fatigue because health systems with IT budgets in the hundreds of millions needed "something compelling enough to make them engage" with a startup. ICU alarm fatigue has regulatory scrutiny, patient safety implications, and nursing burnout consequences that create executive-level urgency. The problem was important enough that clinical leadership would tolerate the integration complexity and vendor risk of working with an early-stage company. Founders should evaluate beachhead opportunities not just by market size but by whether the pain point has organizational consequences severe enough to justify betting on an unproven vendor. Adjacent domain pattern recognition creates non-obvious competitive advantages: CalmWave's team came from building large-scale operations platforms at PagerDuty, where they developed expertise in processing massive streaming data, correlating events, and reducing alert noise. They recognized that ICU alarm fatigue followed the same structural pattern as IT operations alarm fatigue—too many alerts without context. This allowed them to apply a proven architectural approach (signals → alarms → incidents → events) to a new vertical where healthcare incumbents lacked that specific systems thinking. One hospital generates 7 million data points daily; their platform now handles 32 million across multiple facilities. Founders with deep operational expertise in one domain should actively map their architectural patterns to adjacent verticals where incumbents haven't solved analogous problems at scale. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. What does it take to build a revolutionary business in surgery while living a life of high-altitude adventure? In this electrifying episode, Dr. Randy Cook sits down with Dr. Ronen Elefant, a trauma & acute care surgeon, jet pilot, and innovative entrepreneur. Dr. Elefant shares his remarkable journey from immigrating to the U.S. without speaking English to training at the famed Shock Trauma Center, all while pursuing his passion for aviation. We explore his unique engineering mindset applied to surgery, the genesis of his direct-surgical-care company ACES National Surgical Team, and his bold vision to fix a broken healthcare system. Dr. Elefant argues that the root of medicine's problems lies in the misuse of health insurance and offers a compelling alternative: a transparent, bundled-cash model that puts patients and employers back in control. Key Topics Discussed: Immigrating from Israel at age nine and embracing a new life and language. How a biomedical engineering background shapes his surgical problem-solving. The unparalleled training and camaraderie of a 12-person fellowship at Shock Trauma. The parallel journey of becoming a certified Airline Transport Pilot and using aviation as a business tool. The founding philosophy behind ACES: a direct-surgical-care "software solution" for existing surgery centers. Why "health insurance" is a misnomer and how a cash-based model increases quality and lowers costs. Dr. Elefant's two essential "Prescriptions for Success": relentless persistence and achieving "escape velocity." Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring key issues currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, with host Jessica Steinberg speaking with Orna and Ronen Neutra, parents of Omer Neutra, a tank platoon commander who was killed on October 7, 2023, his body taken hostage by Hamas terrorists. The Neutras, Israeli-born Americans who have been living in the US for the last 20 years, talk about the last days since the start of the ceasefire, the joyous return home of 20 living hostages, as the bodies of 13 hostages are still held in Gaza. Orna Neutra discusses how they knew they would never hug their son again, but how difficult it is to reconcile his death until they can bury his body. Ronen Neutra offers more details about October 7, 2023, his son's heroic final moments as a commander on the so-called White House IDF post near the Gaza border. The Neutras discuss their alliance with both the Biden and Trump administrations over the last two years, their more than 40 visits to Washington, DC, and how each US administration embraced the hostage families. Yet, says Orna Neutra, there is still the challenge of explaining that a deceased hostage is still a hostage, and can't remain in Gaza. Ronen Neutra talks about the gray zones of the ceasefire agreement concerning the deceased hostages, and how this war is not over until the last hostage is back. And so this week, we ask Orna and Ronen Neutra, what matters now. What Matters Now podcasts are available for download on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.
