Hey guys, Welcome back to The X Podcast! I know I've been MIA the past few weeks, and in this episode, I'm opening up about everything I've been going through especially my journey with TSW (Topical Steroid Withdrawal). To try something different and take healing into my own hands, I decided to do a 72-hour fast no food, just water. I documented the whole thing by sitting down in front of the camera over several days, capturing all the highs, lows, and real moments in between. Whether you're dealing with TSW, thinking about fasting, or just want to hear a raw, honest update… this one's for you.If you've ever thought about doing a fast or just wanna see what happens when someone stops eating for 3 days… this one's for you. Where to find me

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Lara: Hi, dr. Cabral! Hope you & your family are doing well.. I've heard from a trusted source that people who never get sick actually have a bad immune system response.. that it means their immune system doesn't recognise a threat (virus for example) & that's why they never get sick.. but that doesn't make sense to me, wouldn't that just mean that the viruses would then just stay in your body if your immune system wouldn't try to fight them? And they would wreak havoc on it? I don't know if my way of thinking is correct but would love to hear your input on this.. thanks for all you do, you're absolutely amazing! Anonymous: Hello, I am wondering in methylene blue. I found one of your podcasts where you mention it in a positive manner but now I am hearing about it being derived from petroleum?! So is it a synthetic petroleum-derived chemical? Or is it a great bio hacking tool? I don't believe it can be both, but I know too little about it. Would love a whole show on it from your perspective, if possible, because it's supposed to have so many benefits, but how if it's made this way? Thanks Sarah: Hello!! Curious about the white lines on my nails. I've had them on and off throughout my life. I heard it could be about nutrient deficiencies. I've done the HTMA and completed a protocol to balance my minerals, I eat a clean whole food diet, I take HCL with my meals to help digestion. I also get a lot of random bruises on my legs, unsure if this is related. I've done the 7 day detox, CBO and heavy metals protocol, I take the DNS also zinc and omegas, aswell as l glutamine, creatine, collagen, vit D and some adaptogens. I dry brush, gua sha, rebound, sauna, exercise, lots of walking etc. Anything to be concerned about with the white lines on nails/bruising on the legs? Thanks so much for all you do Linda: Hey Dr Cabrel,I am writing about my granddaughter. She is almost 6 months old, breech cesarean birth baby, fully breast feed. My daughter is very health conscience, gluten free dairy free for years for her own health, lives as toxic free as possible. My question is the baby started to have some blood in her stool around 2 months which the Dr said is a reaction to what my daughter eats. She has limited so many things and eats the same thing every day. They think eggs/chicken are a big trigger as well as oats. Where do we go to find help. The Drs really dont have much to say for guidance and she is getting to an age to start with solids. Thanks! Slava: Hello, To Stephan Cabral: Have you ever dealt with a patient that was going through TSW (topical steroid withdrawal) symptoms? Currently on day 16 for the CBO protocol, have done the big 5 lab tests in 2023. Used corticosteroids since 2020. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Dr. Monique Y. Wells, A native of Houston, Texas and a 32-year resident of Paris, France. Through her entrepreneurial work as a veterinary pathologist and toxicologist, travel professional, writer, speaker, and mentor, she embraces and harnesses the power of education to change lives. While working in Paris she began researching the history of African Americans there and offered self-guided tours of locations associated with African Americans in Paris. This led to her discovery, in the pauper's division of a cemetery outside Paris, of the unmarked grave of the distinguished artist Beauford Delaney, an American modernist painter well known for his work with the Harlem Renaissance in the 1930s and '40s. Delaney moved to Paris in 1953 and continued his production of brilliant figurative and abstract expressionist paintings, including several self-portraits and portraits of James Baldwin. He suffered from mental illness and spent the last four years of his life in a psychiatric institution in the French capital. Fascinated with his story, Monique founded Les Amis de Beauford Delaney, and raised funds for a tombstone to mark his grave. She continues her research and work promoting the legacy of Beauford Delaney. Monique worked for 13 years in the corporate world before combining her passion for life sciences, literacy, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education, the arts, travel/study abroad, and women's empowerment under the umbrella of her U.S. non-profit organization, the Wells International Foundation (WIF). She is currently recruiting a select group of high achieving women leaders for membership in WIF's L³ Alliance. If you've been dealing with **histamine intolerance, MCAS, or unexplained sensitivities**, you already know that avoiding high-histamine foods and taking antihistamines isn't a real solution. True healing requires **going deeper**—into the nervous system, immune response, chronic infections, and past trauma. In this episode, I break down my **6-layer approach** to healing histamine intolerance and MCAS at the root: ✅ **Chronic Infections & Immune Dysregulation** – Addressing stealth pathogens, mold, parasites, and biofilms that keep your immune system on high alert. ✅ **Felt Danger Response & Nervous System Dysregulation** – How chronic stress, trauma, and an overactive fight-or-flight system drive histamine flares. ✅ **Organ Stagnation & Detox Pathways** – Liver, gallbladder, and gut imbalances that prevent histamine from being properly processed. ✅ **Hormone & Nutrient Imbalances** – The role of estrogen dominance, mitochondrial dysfunction, and missing cofactors in histamine overload. ✅ **Chronic Stress & Trauma** – How past emotional wounds, nervous system dysregulation, and subconscious patterns contribute to MCAS. ✅ **Attachment Wounds & Emotional Regulation** – Exploring how early attachment patterns shape our ability to self-soothe and regulate immune responses. We're also diving deep into **supplements, peptides, immune modulation techniques, neurotransmitter balancing, trauma healing, self-soothing strategies, flare support, and more.** If you're ready to take control of your healing, check out my **$25 ebook**, where I go even deeper into these layers, and my **$33 masterclass**, which gives you an actionable plan for rebuilding your health. **Get them here:** https://thehealerrevolution.practicebetter.io/#/61edf7263980330eec3a0490/bookingsListen now to start understanding your body on a deeper level. In this episode, we dive deep into separation conflicts - specifically, separation conflicts that affect the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. Eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis are some of the common diagnosis labels associated with this type of conflict! We share some resolution stories and explore the common “push-pull” nature of these conflicts, where the psyche perceives wanting to either draw someone close or push them away. You'll learn how this biological response plays out in symptoms like peeling, cracking, itchy, red, and/or painful skin. We also tackle a hot topic: topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) - why some people experience worsening symptoms after stopping steroids and how this relates to the underlying separation conflicts. Plus, we discuss the general use of extraneous agents such as creams, supplements, and treatments - do they help or hinder the healing process? If you've ever struggled with chronic skin issues (NOT acne - there's a whole separate episode for that! See episode 16) and felt trapped in the cycle of treating symptoms without lasting resolution, this episode is for you. If you're not sure what is Topical Steroid Withdrawal… Imagine living through a condition so painful and misunderstood that it disrupts every aspect of your life, yet the medical community largely dismisses it.That's the reality of topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) that also creates life-altering health challenges making it extremely difficult to function, sleep or work; show up as a present partner or parent; or live a fun care-free life for kids with TSW.And it presents significant challenges for parents caring for children with TSW who may end up being threatened with having the authorities (or child protective services) called on them for refusing more steroids. As of today, Topical Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome still isn't accepted by the medical community, often labeling those worried about TSW as “steroid-phobic.” Platforms like TikTok have given TSW warriors a voice thanks to millions of views for these videos, helping to raise awareness globally and sparking legislative efforts which document what causes TSW..In this eye-opening episode, filmmaker and advocate Briana Banos returns to share her journey and the powerful impact of her documentaries, Preventable, and the newly released follow-up, Still Preventable.Briana Banos is the creator of the first ever Topical Steroid Withdrawal documentary, Preventable, and the newly released TSW documentary, Still Preventable, which expands on her previous film. From anecdotal stories and doctor interviews, to the history of topical steroids and avenues of reform, Briana continues to shed light on this underrepresented subject. Her battle with TSW began after years of using topical steroids prescribed for eczema—a common treatment that left her dealing with a condition far worse than the original problem. Her first documentary, Preventable, brought awareness to a scattered and overlooked community. But as her own TSW journey stretched into its seventh year, Briana felt compelled to dig deeper, creating Still Preventable to highlight the systemic issues keeping this condition in the shadows and to empower others to use their voices. If you're ready to learn what is topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) and discover ways to make a difference, this is an episode you don't want to miss. Let's dive in!In This Episode:The inspiration behind Still Preventable and why Briana felt compelled to create itWhat is topical steroid withdrawal and how it's misunderstood in medical settingsShocking historical facts about the FDA's role in approving topical steroidsWhy TSW is being updated to include the term “syndrome”What does being a “long hauler” mean in terms of TSWAdvocacy wins: how states like Florida and Maine are acknowledging TSWWhy telling YOUR TSW story helps shift narratives and drives changeHow to get your state to recognize what is topical steroid withdrawal (it's easier than you think)Long-term effects of untreated TSWTips to support individuals and families affected by TSWQuotes“We need to stop feeling helpless—if we use our voices together, we can push the needle forward and create change, even if it takes time.” – Briana Banos“The FDA told us, ‘This is not our problem—you need to bring it up with your doctor,' but patients shouldn't have to educate their doctors on adverse effects.” – Briana BanosLinksFind Briana Banos online | Instagram | YouTubeITSAN Advocacy Page: https://itsan.org/advocacy/

Hey My X's Welcome Back to another episode of the X Podcast. In this episode, I open up about one of the hardest times in my life—my skin journey with Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). I talk about the physical and emotional toll it took on me, from dealing with the painful symptoms of TSW to feeling like there was no point in going on. I also reflect on my childhood struggles with eczema and the insecurities it created, especially during school, when I always felt different. I share a personal prom story that highlights just how much my skin condition affected my self-esteem. At my lowest point, when I thought I had lost all hope, God stepped in and saved me. But the real turning point came when someone online asked me to speak about confidence. It hit me hard because I felt like I was lying....how could I talk about confidence when I was struggling so much myself? This episode talks about my journey and how I learned to embrace my insecurities, battle jealousy, and ultimately realize that my struggles and flaws are part of what make me unique. I hope this video helps anyone who's ever struggled with self-doubt or wished they could be someone else. The truth is, being you is your superpower, and embracing who you are can lead to the confidence you've been searching for. This description captures your journey, emotional struggles, and the message of self-empowerment while providing a personal context for why you decided to make the video. Your fav X Where to find me

This week, I'm thrilled to bring you a powerful and eye-opening conversation with the amazing Briana Banos—a talented documentary maker and passionate advocate for TSW (Topical Steroid Withdrawal). We're diving into the devastating impacts of this iatrogenic condition, caused by the overuse or overprescription of topical steroids, often given for atopic dermatitis, or eczema. As someone who dealt with eczema myself in my early twenties—and briefly used topical steroids—I'm fortunate that I never suffered myself. In addition, I've had friends and family members struggle with eczema and even TSW. So, when I came across Briana's first documentary, *Preventable*, on social media, I knew I had to learn more. The documentary lays bare the seriousness of TSW and shines a light on a heartbreaking reality: many sufferers are gaslit by the very healthcare professionals who prescribed these treatments in the first place. Left without support, they're forced to navigate lives filled with pain, frustration, and despair, often feeling like their condition isn't taken seriously. Since recording this episode, I've also watched Briana's follow-up documentary, *Still Preventable*, which is equally—if not more—powerful than the original. Both films are deeply moving, and they expose a critical issue that's been ignored by much of the medical community for far too long, despite clear evidence of its existence. Briana's relentless campaign to raise awareness and improve the lives of TSW sufferers is nothing short of inspiring. It was an honor to sit down with her and do my part to support this crucial movement. This episode is a must-listen, so settle in and join us for an important conversation that could change how you see eczema, topical steroids, and the healthcare system itself. We discussed:0:00Impact of Steroid Withdrawal10:24Challenges of Topical Steroid Withdrawal18:58Mental Toll of Skin Conditions23:20Holistic Healing for Eczema Relief27:30Long-Term Challenges of Steroid Withdrawal44:20Journey to Healing Eczema Relief1:00:54Medical Education and Health Costs1:14:39Advocating for Topical Steroid Withdrawal1:21:17Support and Advocacy in HealthYou can find Briana @:https://brianabanos.com/Preventable: Protecting Our Largest OrganStill Preventable: TSW Documentary YouTube ChannelSend us a textSupport the showDon't forget to leave a Rating for the podcast! You can find Leigh @:Leigh's website - https://www.bodychek.co.uk/Leigh's books - https://www.bodychek.co.uk/books/ Eliminate Adult Acne Programme - https://eliminateadultacne.com/Substack - https://substack.com/@radicalhealthrebelYouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/@radicalhealthrebelpodcast Rumble Channel - https://rumble.com/user/RadicalHealthRebelPatreon Channel - https://patreon.com/radicalhealthrebel
What are topical steroids? Often prescribed for chronic skin conditions, I'll bet you've probably used them at some point during your treatment.Sure, they work quickly, but are they without side effects? To answer that question, we need to talk about glucocorticoids, which are hormones naturally produced by the adrenal glands as part of the stress response.Topical steroids fall under the glucocorticoids category, and due to those who've experienced something called topical steroid withdrawal, some people are described by physicians as “steroid phobic.”While there are serious downsides, glucocorticoids can have some incredible anti-inflammatory effects on various health conditions. That's why it's crucial for us to have a nuanced conversation about this!Dr. Luis Franco joins me to discuss everything you've wanted to know about topical steroids, types of glucocorticoids, and concerns about side effects from using topical steroids.Dr. Luis Franco is a Tenure-Track Investigator at the National Institute of Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). He was born in Colombia and grew up between Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. He attended medical school in Colombia before returning to the United States, initially as a postdoctoral fellow at Duke University. Dr. Franco attended Baylor College of Medicine for specialty training in internal medicine and medical genetics. In 2014, he moved to the National Institute of Health (NIH).In This Episode:What are topical steroids versus glucocorticoids? Are topical steroids + glucocorticoids bad?Cortisone vs cortisol (and glucocorticoids examples by name)Side effects of glucocorticoidsWhat is topical steroid withdrawal? How glucocorticoids modulate your immune systemQuotes“Glucocorticoids exist naturally. They are hormones that are produced by our bodies. And they're produced by this very particular gland that's above our kidneys, that's called the adrenal gland or the suprarenal gland. And so our adrenal glands produce these chemicals called glucocorticoids. And those chemicals have many, many roles in biology and the one that is sort of best understood is that they are part of the stress response.”“I think the side effects that are important to know for topical glucocorticoids are one, something called skin atrophy, which is kind of a thinning of the skin that people notice when they've been applying glucocorticoids for a long time. Some people also notice little, kind of red, blood vessels that come up. These are called telangiectasias. These are like reddish blood vessels that become very visible on the skin of people who have used topical glucocorticoids.”LinksFind Dr. Franco onlineHealthy Skin Show ep. 344: NEW RESEARCH On Topical Steroid Withdrawal Symptoms + TSW Red Skin TriggerTopical Steroids Potency ChartImmune regulation by glucocorticoids can be linked to cell type–dependent transcriptional responsesGlucocorticoid-induced eosinopenia results from CXCR4-dependent bone marrow migration

In this solo episode of my podcast, I dive into my personal journey of healing from Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). Reflecting on my experiences, I share the invaluable lessons learned and what I wish I had done differently along the way. One of my biggest realizations was how I wish I had listened to my inner voice regarding the use of prednisone. I discuss how I believe that decision significantly impacted my healing journey. This episode is a candid exploration of the deep trauma work I had to undertake and the radical responsibility I had to accept in recognizing how I was contributing to my own suffering. I talk about when and why I used medications, the severe impact TSW has on mental health, why steroids often exacerbate symptoms rather than alleviate them, and why certain symptoms persist after use of steroids. I share the various tools and strategies I used to navigate my healing, from the crucial practices I wish I had implemented sooner to the pivotal role of circadian science and nervous system regulation in my recovery. Tune in to hear about the practical steps and mindset shifts that made a difference in my journey. Whether you are dealing with similar health issues or seeking inspiration for your own healing path, this episode offers insights and encouragement to trust yourself and take proactive steps towards well-being. Join me as I open up about my struggles, breakthroughs, and the holistic approaches that ultimately led to my healing. 'Nuff Said! The Evolution of Her Perspective on Beauty and Self-Worth: Through her journey, Daisy's perspective on beauty and self-worth has evolved significantly. Daisy emphasises the importance of finding beauty beyond skin-deep and cultivating self-worth that is not tied to physical appearance. I've discussed topical steroid withdrawal symptoms and TSW skin concerns extensively on the Healthy Skin Show, but there is still so much about this condition that isn't well understood.Partly because we don't yet have much research on TSW.So when I heard that Dr. Ian Myles was looking into topical steroid withdrawal symptoms, I had to get him on the show to break it down for you in layman's terms (because his paper is complex).Topical Steroid Withdrawal (aka. TSW and also sometimes called red skin syndrome online), is a condition triggered by the use of glucocorticoid steroids often used topically (and typically prescribed for chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis).Because topical steroids are the standard of care for these conditions, many people unfortunately end up using them for extended periods of time (sometimes without any breaks and with increasing potency). And some go on to develop TSW, which is a horribly debilitating condition with symptoms that can drag on for years after stopping all steroid exposure. The research we're discussing in this episode has yet to undergo peer-review, but is in the process. Either way, the ideas are fascinating, albeit complex (especially for those with little to no experience with nutritional biochemistry). So we're hoping that this conversation helps you understand the ideas while also adding context to what's next for TSW research. My guest today is Dr. Ian Myles! He did his undergrad at Colorado State University, received his M.D. from the University of Colorado, then trained in internal medicine at The Ohio State University prior to beginning fellowship training in allergy and clinical immunology at NIH. He became a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and has supported several US and international missions.Dr. Myles received his MPH from George Washington University before becoming the head of the Epithelial Therapeutics Unit to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a topical, live bacterial treatment for eczema. In This Episode:How Dr. Myles's interest in topical steroid withdrawal and TSW skin beganStudy about topical steroid withdrawal symptomsNiacin and TSW connectionTopical steroids impact on your cells' powerplants (aka. mitochondria)Which type of steroids may be to blameTreatment ideas for topical steroid withdrawal symptomsWhat may be driving TSW symptoms in your brainThoughts on oral and topical berberine for TSW skinQuotes“So we're saying… what distinguishes patients with TSW and patients with atopic derm? And you can say, what's too much, and then what's too little? And so the thing that's too much, like we said, was niacin, the nicotinic acid. And then what was too little was tryptophan.”“Kynurenine shuts off your ability to sweat, and we hear a lot from the patients that during the height of it they would be beet red, they'd be flushed, they'd do all this, but they're not sweating. They'd be feeling super hot, but they wouldn't sweat.”LinksFind Dr. Ian Myles online here and on TwitterPAPER WE DISCUSSED: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.04.17.24305846v1.fullDr. Myles's TSW deep dive on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSFiKlrIDUIHealthy Skin Show episodes on Topical Steroid WithdrawalHealthy Skin S

This challenging period catalyzed her holistic approach to healing, emphasizing the crucial roles of emotional, spiritual, and energetic wellness alongside physical health.Amanda advocates a tripartite model of wellness, encompassing:Energetics: Focus on nervous system regulation and the principles of quantum physics.Physical Health: Promotion of bodily health and the use of somatic techniques.Mental and Spiritual Well-being: Commitment to profound inner work.Amanda places a strong emphasis on psychoneuroimmunology, trauma-informed care, quantum physics, belief systems, and the interplay between the nervous and immune systems, all of which significantly influence overall health. 'Nuff Said! 'Nuff Said! No ma... Un mooomento, ¿Donde he visto algo parecido? Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Joey: Hi, in your experience when clients have issues due to mold how long does it take once they move out of the moldy environment to start feeling better. Holly: Hey! I've been listening to your podcasts they're amazing. I listen between clients when I'm walking etc. I've been on a mission for so long because my body is inflamed I know I have sibo leaky gut and candida. I have numerous allergies sinus infections etc. in fact I have that much I'm just wondering would you recommend anything in a particular order like detox first ? Just because I think I'd benefit from that all it's hard to chose. Erica: What causes reoccurring H Pylori infections? I got rid of mine about 3 years ago following your protocol and I appear to be positive again. Thanks in advance! Kerri: Hi I love your podcast listen almost everyday. I'm on a strict carnivore diet for psoriasis that I've been on for 2 months now. I just quit using betamethasone after using it for many months. I've only cheated on my diet one weekend each month with dairy free sugar free ice cream. Why am I not seeing improvement yet? Is it TSW or maybe the little cheats I did are slowing progress? Thank you soo much for all your do. Kate: Hi Dr. Cabral! I'm 52 years old female, pretty healthy and fit. I eat low carb diet, take nutritional support daily, workout at least 4-5 times a week, do intermittent fasting 16-8. However, this so the second time I get very sharp pain in my chest exactly in the middle of my chest. It lasts for weeks. The first time I had this I got scared that I might have a heart attack. I went to the doctor, did all the tests but they didn't find anything (fortunately). Seems like I was healthy. Now several years later I have the same thing. I was searching up the internet, and I found the name costochondritis which seems to match all the symptoms I have. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again. I was also wondering if my exercises could've caused that.I do Pure Barre mainly Anonymous: Hello Dr. Cabral. I was so excited to see that Beautycounter was on your website under resources.
