I spoke with Wendy over the phone about all the positive creative chairs she is bringing into people's lives and homes. Speaking to Wendy loves what she does and she loves making people smile. Wendy's color is pink which brings life to her chairs and who wouldn't smile when they see the color pink? Wendy and I talked about the word "PLAY." We both agreed that as you reach adulthood people intend to get more serious in life. Sometimes you have to find the inner child and make time to play. I believe to remain happy and be less stressed you have to find your joy. Wendy finds her joy by helping her online course students tap into and cultivate their creativity, giving them permission to "PLAY" and upgrade their joy. Wendy's teaching style makes the challenge of learning a new craft feel accessible and fun! Wendy Conklin, The Chair Stylist, is a former educator turned boutique chair decorator helping people around the globe infuse personality, color, and whimsy into their surroundings. Through her company, Chair Whimsy, she offers various options to turn a boring and beige room into whimsical and wow, including a collection of ready-made designer chairs, custom chair design, and a host of courses to unleash the DIYer's inner artist. Her whimsical style has been featured in outlets such as Forbes, HGTV Magazine, and Apartment Therapy and showcased in a colorful collaboration with American Lifestyle Brand, Frances Valentine. Wendy lives in a personality-filled home in Round Rock, Texas with her husband and little furry friend Maui, where she enjoys greenhouse gardening, mixing tasty cocktails, and renovating her retro-inspired motorhome as the “Camper Revamper.” Therefore, Life Whimsy is the first book by artisan/entreprenista Wendy Conklin, a unique guidebook featuring practical tips for nurturing creativity in all aspects of life, insights on starting a small business, and step-by-step instructions on how to reupholster an old chair into a usable style piece. When Elyce Arons met Kate Spade, then Kate Brosnahan, at 18 years old, the two quickly became friends over a shared interest in journalism. But they moved to New York after college and realized a greater passion for the fashion industry. That led the duo, plus Andy Spade and Pamela Bell, to become the founding partners of Kate Spade, in January 1993.  After eventually selling Kate Spade to Neiman Marcus Group in 2006, Arons and Kate Spade realized they hadn't lost the desire to create and design. Thus, in 2016, they launched Frances Valentine, starting with shoes and handbags. Since then, Frances Valentine has built a growing business by focusing on often overlooked demographics: boomers and Gen X.  "When [Kate and I] started Kate Spade, we were 29 and 30 years old. We were at a time in our lives where we were young professionals, and the products we made were targeted to women like us. But when we started Frances Valentine, we were missing things in the market that we wanted." Arons said on the latest episode of The Glossy Podcast. "I thought, 'We've done this before. I know we can do this again.' So we started by making beautiful [shoe] designs at great prices, with good quality." Though Frances Valentine initially began selling apparel as an homage to Kate Spade, it realized the great demand and soon released a full apparel line to complement its accessories. Apparel has grown to become the brand's No. 1 product category. Now, Frances Valentine has its sights on expansion, most recently entering the home decor and beauty categories. As it slowly works toward becoming a premier lifestyle brand, it also plans to open more physical store locations.

Seriousness stands out this week with some of the topics we discussed. The fashion world was rocked by news that designer Kate Spade was found dead in her New York parent Tuesday (June 5). A note was found inside the home, suggesting Spade committed suicide A housekeeper found the body of the 55-year-old fashion maven in her apartment on Park Avenue near E. 77th St. at about 10:20 a.m, police sources said. Spade hanged herself with a scarf, police sources said. Kate Spade New York has more than 140 retail shops around the U.S., and more than 175 elsewhere in the world. Spade, who was married to Andy Spade, sold off her popular company in 2007 to focus on raising her daughter. She made a return to fashion in 2016 with the launch of the Frances Valentine line - R.I.P. ‘Love & Hip Hop’ star Scrappy was cruising along early Sunday morning with a friend as they were leaving the King of Diamonds strip club in Miami. Scrappy believes his buddy fell asleep at the wheel, however cops list Scrappy as the driver in the crash. Either way … they slammed into a pole, totaling the car. Scrappy eventually came to at a hospital, but sources say he doesn’t remember who found him or how he got there. We’re told he is seriously injured, with a broken foot that needs to be operated on. We’re told his friend, Ca$ino, is in ICU...Scrappy is not. Grammy-nominated rapper J. Cole's childhood home was vandalized over the weekend, according to a photo that surfaced on Twitter. In the photo, the words "J. Cole...Do you even care about the ville" are spray painted on the Fayetteville home on Forest Hills Drive. Cole has said he intended to turn the 2014 Forest Hill Drives home into a rent-free shelter for single mothers and struggling families. The address was also the title of his third studio album, and he invited fans to the location for a meet and greet session. Got to be more careful! Physical appearance will reportedly no longer be a determining factor for Miss America contestants: The pageant will no longer feature a swimsuit or evening gown competition, in hopes of being more inclusive of women of all sizes. In addition, contestants will have the opportunity to wear whatever they want in place of the evening gown and will discuss how they would advance their social-impact initiatives during this portion.
