Gail is best known as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and the Founder of CAULIPOWER, the most disruptive company in the better-for-you frozen food space. The company experienced hyper-growth, reaching over $100m in revenue in five short years. She has received recognition for her achievements in business from Forbes, Fast Company, Inc., and Ernst & Young.   Gail is a frequent media guest, sought out for her opinions on the rise of female-owned businesses, healthy food trends, and building great brands. As the mom of two boys with celiac disease, Gail grew tired of searching for healthier alternatives that were easy to make and tasted great. Knowing she couldn't be alone, she left her corporate job and launched CAULIPOWER in 2017.     Today, CAULIPOWER is America's #1 Cauliflower Crust Pizza, #1 Gluten-Free Pizza, and a top 10 frozen pizza brand in the total market. CAULIPOWER is recognized as the true disruptor of what was one of grocery's most stagnant categories and, in 2022, was named one of the Top 10 World's Most Innovative Food Companies by Forbes.   As the company continues to expand into various categories, including chicken tenders, pasta, riced cauliflower, and breakfast scrambles, it remains Gail's mission to eliminate the need for consumers to ever have to choose between taste, health, and convenience.   In this episode of Takin' Care of Lady Business®, Jennifer Justice and Gail Becker discussed the importance of taking risks and believing in yourself. Jennifer shared her story of starting her own food business, CAULIPOWER. Despite facing difficulties raising money, Gail launched her product in thirty Whole Foods stores in February 2017. She took a risk and bet on herself, maxing out her credit cards and selling her clothes online, eventually raising her needed money. Gail also discussed the need to redefine success and the worst advice Gail ever received. Listen to this episode for a coupon for a free CAULIPOWER product!   Here is what to expect on this week's show: Careers are not always linear but more like a jungle gym, allowing for multiple pivots and exploration. Sometimes, following a calling or intuition is more important than focusing on guaranteed success when making career decisions. Learning and education can play a crucial role in starting a business, with the ability to hire consultants and learn from industry experts. Taking risks and betting on oneself is essential, even when faced with skepticism or lack of support. Knowing when to hire a CEO or delegate responsibilities is crucial for personal growth and preventing burnout. Redefining personal definitions of success beyond financial milestones is important, and recognizing the courage and determination it takes to embark on an entrepreneurial journey. Quotes: “It's okay to pivot, and it's okay to pivot once, twice, and sometimes three or four times until you feel like you get it right.” – Gail Becker “You should always bet on yourself. You should always take that bet. I can't think of a better lesson for the kids that we raise and the women that we cheer on.” – Gail Becker   “It was probably easier than I thought it would be. I think that's so true in life, right? So much about life is the anxiety that we sort of build-up and think, can I do this? It's going to be horrible, whatever it is in life. And then you go through it, and you're like, okay, well, that wasn't so bad.” – Gail Becker   Social Media: https://eatcaulipower.com/en/ https://www.instagram.com/caulipower/ https://www.facebook.com/caulipower/ https://www.pinterest.com/caulipower/ https://twitter.com/caulipower   This episode is sponsored by Medjet. As TOKiMONSTA, Jennifer Lee has made a name for herself as a Grammy-nominated music producer, pioneering the L.A. Beat Scene and ranking as one of the top 100 DJs worldwide. Her entire discography has drawn critical praise, collaborating with a long list of artists including Anderson Paak, Earthgang, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and remixing artists like Sia and Beck. In 2015, Lee was diagnosed with Moyamoya, a rare brain disease that left her unable to communicate or comprehend music, but she persevered through two surgeries and cognitive therapy to make a triumphant comeback at Coachella in 2016. Her first album post-surgery, Lune Rouge, was nominated for ‘Electronic Album of the Year' at the 2019 Grammy Awards. In 2020, she released her fourth full-length album, Oasis Nocturno, showcasing her progression as an artist with a mix of house, funk-soul, and hip-hop. Throughout the pandemic, she continued to innovate by hosting the popular music program Lost Resort on Twitch, collaborating on an NFT collection, and curating a livestream event for Women's History Month. Always looking to combine her creativity with innovation, TOKiMONSTA continues to push boundaries across music, fashion, tech and beyond. Toki has now entered the world of tech having cofounded a music tech start up by the name of “Sona.” The aim of Sona is to democratize music streaming for artists in a world where the pay per stream is not adequate for a musician's cost of living. The protocol and platform will reconstruct the scaffolding of music streaming so that audiences still have access to all the music they desire, while allowing artist's payout to equate to what they truly deserve. In 2022, Sona raised approximately 7 million in funding and is in development. The company is aiming for a mid-2023 launch. In this episode of Takin' Care of Lady Business®, recorded in Ibiza, Spain at the International Music Summit, host Jennifer Justice sits down with special guest TOKiMONSTA, a DJ and music producer who shares her experiences as a woman of color and encourages listeners to lead with their best foot forward, choosing to represent who they really are instead of taking shortcuts. The episode also explores her tech start-up, Sona, which rewards both artists and curators, offers a fairer payment system and uses blockchain technology.    Here is what to expect on this week's show: Sona's plan to revolutionize the music industry with a streaming platform that allows users to stream music for free and invest in artists by buying the streaming rights to their songs. How Sona uses blockchain technology in the music industry to bring transparency and efficiency to the ecosystem for musicians. Challenges for female producers in the music industry, gender bias, fundraising, and democratization in the music industry. Quotes: "With the internet, it kind of opens the floodgates for people to kind of just steal music, and that's really difficult for people who make music... I think technology and music are so intertwined now that it's kind of hard to say that they're two separate entities. Like, they're very linked." - TOKiMONSTA "I never wanted to be a DJ. You know, I wanted to make music. And now it's like I kind of love both and I feel that both are very different and dynamic skills that I've had to learn to kind of work on." - TOKiMONSTA "As far as making music and producing, that's something that came out of just having such a deeply rooted love for music. And then one day, I decided, I think I can do that, you know." – TOKiMONSTA "I feel like the more diversity we have, especially in music, the more interesting it gets because you have all these different perspectives and different ways of thinking.” - TOKiMONSTA https://tokimonsta.com https://sona.stream https://www.internationalmusicsummit.com/   Learn more about your ad choices. Although Jennifer Justice was surrounded by women who chose a different life path, Jennifer always knew from a young age that she wanted to be a businesswoman. From being a first generation college student, to an Entrepreneur and former entertainment executive at Roc Nation, as well as being named to Billboard Women in Power list three times, she has truly embodied what it is to be a ‘lady boss.' Jennifer is known for her expertise in building artists' careers and business portfolios by marrying art and commerce as well as championing gender equality and diversity in the workplace and beyond. Jennifer is passionate about advocating for women in the workplace and serves on several boards including Chair of the WIE Network Advisory Board and is a founding advisory board member of USC's Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. Jennifer discusses how she wanted to create a platform for businesswomen to connect with one another and get valuable advice from someone who shares their experiences. She emphasizes that experiences in the workplace are vastly different when it comes to gender. Jennifer created her podcast “Lady Business” as a way to inspire other women to step into their careers as well as stand up for themselves in an industry that is male dominated. She also created “The Justice Dept,” a female focused advisory, consulting and law firm advocating for female founders, talent, execs and brands. Jennifer reminds us that with perseverance and community, we can make a difference for women in the workplace as well as in our own careers. Jennifer poses the question: what's taking so long? Some powerful takeaways from today's episode: Although Jennifer was surrounded by women who chose to stay home and care for their families, she knew she wanted to be in the workforce from a young age The greatest lessons learned come from failing The industry continues to pay women less than men and at the current rate it will take 200 years for women and men to be paid equally People often get trapped when focusing on the benefits of working for a large company when making the leap to become their own boss What's worse, regret? Or failing and learning from it? Men and women do not have the same experiences which is why Jennifer wanted to create a platform for women to get insight from other successful women in the workforce “You will fail, I fail every day” Links: Jennifer Justice's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennifer-justice-354a0b99/ Jennifer Justice's Website: https://www.thejusticedept.com/jennifer-justice THE RE:INVENTION EXCHANGE - for more Inspired Content, Blogs, Podcasts, Virtual Chats,or to buy a copy of my book RE:INVENT YOUR LIFE! Alice Kim is the Founder and CEO of PerfectDD, a brand created from her own need to find clothes that fit and flatter women with DD+ cups, small to mid-frame. As a size 32DD, Alice struggled her entire life to feel confident in clothes that are not too tight at her chest or oversized on the rest of her body. Learning that the average bra size in the U.S. is a 34DD and millions of women struggle with the same problem, Alice was inspired to create style solutions and to be the voice for these underserved women. Alice believes that getting dressed should be easy so you can focus on being a boss. Born and raised in NYC, Alice is a graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in economics and began her career in investment banking at Bear Stearns. After three years in finance, she decided to follow her true calling and transitioned into fashion. Alice spent two decades working at renown fashion houses including Shopbop, Diane von Furstenberg, Prada, and Victoria's Secret which taught her to be an expert in product, fit, and design. Alice is a Tory Burch Fellow 2022 and a member of the Female Founder Collective and Dreamers & Doers.   Listen to this Takin' Care of Lady Business episode where Alice talks about how hard it is to find clothes that fit people of larger chest sizes, especially when they're teenagers. Alice, who has 20 years of experience in the fashion industry, wanted to change this and started her own company.    Here is what to expect on this week's show: - How Alice created products that fill a need for women with larger chests getting lost in the mix - PerfectDD's mission to make clothes tailored for all body types, not just bigger boobs - The importance of getting properly measured and fitted for a bra to avoid a range of problems, from back pain to sagging breasts - Why it is important to focus on the core customer base with a niche business   Quotes: “After being in fashion for 20 years, I was like, F this, I have experience, I have the data now, so I'm gonna do it. And interestingly enough, I did pitch my idea a couple of times to other brands, and because people aren't used to it, it's a new category that I'm forging, they thought it was too “niche”, and I didn't get the yes. So, I said, you know what? I know in my heart of hearts, the data, the experience… If someone's gonna do it eventually, but why not me?” – Alice Kim “I think getting dressed should be easy. So you can focus on being a boss.” – Jennifer Justice “The market is there. I think what did well [on TikTok] is not only following the trends, but I talked about something that is “taboo”. You're not supposed to talk about boobs outside of bras, right or swimwear.” – Alice Kim Website http://www.perfectedd.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/perfectdd/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@perfectdd Learn more about your ad choices. [The woman] had to move it away from the icky topical topic of a period and literally just talk about the financial like aspect of it and how much money they would make.” – Jennifer Justice  “[Explaining a female product], it's like that astronaut. [Sally Ride], one of the female astronauts who went to space. And they gave her, like, 100 tampons for like a four-day flight 100 tampons, and these are literally rocket scientists.” - Fiona Simmonds “I was flabbergasted, I was one of our first meetings, we went have this pretty bro-y office of VC investors, but the best of the whole thing. After a successful 20-year career in technology, Alli founded The Forem to unlock opportunities for women across disruptive brands and Fortune 1000 organizations. As CEO, Alli oversees all aspects of The Forem, including corporate training and Executive Coaching. In her last role, Alli led Americas at Turn, a tech company in the middle of a challenging transition and exit. In her most prominent role, Alli led various sales teams over an 11-year tenure at Google, where she focused on strategic partnerships and aligning customer goals with emerging tech solutions, including the development of a global programmatic strategy which drove several billion in revenue. Alli began her career at Yahoo! and went on to lead creative and marketing strategy at both Deutsch and Mediacom. Throughout Alli's career, she noticed a pattern — there are unwritten rules that men and corporations have been using for decades that women have not implemented due to lack of exposure and sponsorship, among other things. Alli spent a year researching career advancement and launched a new curriculum that unlocks upward mobility for women, called the 5 Critical Skills. These skills are not gender specific, but they are often underutilized by women, and they are critical to navigating leadership within corporate culture. Alli's unique curriculum is based on her experience at Google and can reach a wide audience via her platform at The Forem. These skills apply to young women starting their careers, all the way up to CEOs seeking board seats. Alli's personal mission is to move 1M women into leadership by 2030. The Forem's Five Critical Skills are taught through talks, live workshops, and a career advancement platform, which enhances ongoing learning. These skills can be leveraged at any stage of a career. Listen to this Takin' Care of Lady Business episode with Alli Young where they discuss It is essential for supervisors to demonstrate an aptitude for breaking the status quo. Developing a sense of unity among employees within an organization is critical, as is promoting psychological safety. For women working in the tech industry, it is wise to cultivate a support network of colleagues who will be there to provide guidance and encouragement. Here is what to expect on this week's show: The importance of instilling psychological safety. Managers need to be willing to be disruptors. The importance of creating community within a company. Have a tribe of people on your side. Quotes: “Teaching people why growth mindset is so important. And when you teach that, and they believe it, it does help with everything else that follows. People are more willing to be curious, and to be a little more introspective, and figure out different ways in which they can show up.” – Alli Young “As an executive, I've always found [you're either making money or saving money for the company] one of the most difficult things to get across to more junior exec, employees, etc. because they want to join something that they want to be a part of they're not thinking necessarily, of the P&L and the bottom line.” – Jennifer Justice “If these companies don't really look within at the employees that they have and look at them and say we're going to help you operate at a higher-level man they'd better sell more effectively understand the P&L, so you can make better business decisions like all of that.
