IMPOSIBLE«Tener amor es [...] no tener envidia» (1 Cor. 13: 4).Al narrar la escena en que Jesús fue sentenciado a muerte, Mateo y Marcos cuentan un detalle interesante: Pilato «se había dado cuenta de que los jefes de los sacerdotes lo habían entregado por envidia» (Mat. 27: 18; Mar. 15: 10). ¿Cómo es posible que un líder religioso pueda llegar tan lejos como para entregar a alguien inocente por envidia, esperando con esa entrega que sea condenado a muerte? ¿Hasta dónde llegaría yo por envidia? ¿Hasta dónde llegarías tú? ¿Has percibido en tu propia experiencia que a veces tomaste decisiones por la envidia que sentías?Grandes personajes de la Biblia tomaron malas decisiones por causa de la envidia. «Cuando Raquel vio que ella no podía darle hijos a Jacob, sintió envidia de su hermana» (Gén. 30: 1), y le dio a Jacob a su esclava como concubina. Los hermanos de José, futuros patriarcas de las tribus de Israel, lo envidiaban (Gén. 37: 11) y lo vendieron como esclavo. El mismo salmista admitió: «Tuve envidia al ver cómo prosperan los orgullosos y malvados» (Sal. 73: 3). ¿Envidia de los orgullosos y malvados por parte de un creyente? Sí, la envidia existe en nuestras filas porque existe en nuestros corazones y, sin duda, nubla el juicio de quien cae presa de sus garras.Déjame decirte lo primero que creo que hay que decir al respecto: hay perdón para quien ha sentido envidia y, mal aconsejado por ella, hizo algo equivocado (y aunque no lo haya hecho). Lo segundo: hay que intentar derrotarla con la ayuda de Dios, porque «cada uno de nosotros está sembrando semilla en los campos de la vida. Como sea la simiente, será la mies. Si sembramos envidia, celos, amargura de pensamientos y sentimientos, cosecharemos amargura para nuestras propias almas» (Consejos para los maestros, p. 90). ¿Quién querría cosechar amargura de alma? Por eso es tan importante entender cómo funciona esta mala hierba llamada envidia y después lograr arrancarla del corazón con la ayuda de Dios, para que podamos florecer y vivir con auténtica plenitud, siendo mujeres virtuosas.Cuando concebimos el éxito ajeno como una amenaza para nuestro orgullo es porque un ego frágil rige nuestra vida. El trabajo hay que hacerlo con el ego, de tal manera que se sienta tranquilo y seguro en Cristo, de quien deriva realmente el poder tener un concepto equilibrado de nosotras mismas. La humildad, la fe y el amor son la clave; cualidades que vienen de Dios. Porque «de adentro, es decir, del corazón de los hombres, salen [...] la envidia, [...] el orgullo [...]. Le grand romancier dialogue au Club 44 avec Philippe Marthaler en écho à son dernier roman Déserter (Actes Sud, 2023). Quelque part dans un paysage méditerranéen, orageux familier et insaisissable, en marge d'un champ de bataille indéterminé, un soldat inconnu tente de fuir sa propre violence. Le 11 septembre 2001, sur la Havel, aux alentours de Berlin, un colloque scientifique fait revivre la figure de Paul Heudeber, mathématicien est-allemand de génie, disparu tragiquement, fidèle à son côté du Mur de Berlin, malgré l'effondrement des idéologies. La guerre, la désertion, l'amour et l'engagement... dans son dernier roman, Mathias Enard, obsédé par le retour éternel de la guerre, observe ce qu'elle fait au plus intime de nos vies. _ Il suit des études d'arabe et de persan à l'INALCO et s'installe à Barcelone après de longs séjours au Moyen-Orient. Il y anime plusieurs revues culturelles et enseigne l'arabe à l'Université autonome de Barcelone. Son premier ouvrage La perfection du tir (Actes Sud) paraît en 2003 et reçoit le Prix des cinq continents de la francophonie et le Prix Edmée-de-La-Rochefoucauld. ‘Do not neglect the gift that is in you.' 1 Timothy 4:14 NKJVThe only way to keep improving is to keep practising. Nancy Dornan says, ‘The longest distance between two points is a shortcut.' That's really true. If you really want to grow in a particular area, you'll need to work out what it will really take, including the price, and then determine to pay it. David didn't suddenly discover his talent as a harpist when he arrived at King Saul's palace. He developed it through years of practice on lonely hillsides while tending his father's sheep. Paul instructed Timothy: ‘Till I come, give attention to reading…Do not neglect the gift that is in you…Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all' (vv. 13-15 NKJV). When you stop growing, everything stops. Progress, success, and growth don't happen by soaking them up by chance, they take determination and discipline. There's no easy way to become a disciplined person. The reason last year's winner was this year's runner-up is because one was willing to go the extra mile when it came to practice and discipline, and the other wasn't. Anyone who does what they must do only when they're in the mood or when it's convenient will get left behind. Improvement comes through discipline. A disciplined person doesn't make excuses or accept excuses; they eliminate excuses. As French classical writer François de La Rochefoucauld said, ‘Almost all our faults are more pardonable than the methods we think up to hide them.' If you have several reasons why you can't be disciplined, realise they're just a bunch of excuses – all of which need to be challenged if you want to succeed in what God's called you to do.

C'est une invasion de morts". "À Bergen, il n'y a pas ce qu'il faut, il n'y a qu'un seul four crématoire, donc on ne peut pas les bruler tous".  1942, Francine et sa maman sont arrêtées à La Rochefoucauld après avoir tenté de passer la ligne de démarcation pour se rendre en zone libre.  Elles sont envoyées à la prison d'Angoulême, puis aux camps de Poitiers, Drancy, Pithiviers, Beaune la Rolande et Drancy à nouveau où elles resteront 9 mois. Grace au statut particulier épargnant les femmes et enfants de prisonniers de guerre, Francine et sa maman échapperont au terrible camp d'extermination d'Auschwitz, et seront déportées par le convoi du 2 mai 1944 à Bergen-Belsen, en Allemagne, où elles deviendront des « Austauschjuden », littéralement « Juifs d'échange ». Francine nous raconte son quotidien de petite fille juive dans le camp de Bergen-Belsen en Allemagne. Francine 11 ans, Enfant de la Shoah.       Dans le prochain et dernier épisode, Francine nous racontera son départ de Bergen belsen et son long périple à bord de ce que l'on appelera le train fantome, avant d'être libérée par l'armée soviétique et de retrouver son papa   ----------Merci à Néo, qui m'a permis de faire cette formidable rencontre de francine et de  Jean-Jacques --------------------------------merci de votre écoute… NE PERDONS PAS L'HISTOIRE, PARTAGEONS-LA… ❤️ SUIVEZ-MOI SUR LES RÉSEAUX ❤️

Avril 1945, la fin de la guerre est proche, Les nazis sentent poindre la défaite, alors ils évacuent les camps. Gre za zbirko kratkih besedil, izrekov, ki se gibljejo med poezijo in prozo. V njih je avtor na podlagi filozofije, ki ni osnovana ne terminih, razkrinkava slabosti človeške narave. Tako je njihova izhodiščna teza, kot je zapisal prevajalec Maksim (Mladinska knjiga, zbirka Kondor, 2007) in sogovornik Primož Vitez, to, "da človekove vrline navadno niso nič drugega kot slabosti, ki jih samoljubje prikriva ali kaže v lažni luči. Ali še huje: dobro je ponavadi le prikrito zlo. La Rochefoucauld je pesimist."

Den Teig auf einem tiefen Backblech ausrollen und gleichmäßig verteilen nach der Größe des Bleches! Folgende Zutaten für den Belag: 1 Kg. Quark, 3 Becher Sahne, 15 Esslöffel Zucker, 2 Päckchen Vanillepudding Pulver, 2 Esslöffel Zitronensaft, 6 Eigelb  >aus den 6 Eiweiß Eischnee schlagen und diesen am Schluss unterheben 150 g zerlassene Butter Alle Zutaten für den Belag mit den Mixer gut schaumig verrühren, am Schluss die zerlassene Butter langsam unter Rühren eingießen und anschließend den Eischnee vorsichtig unterheben. Die gesamte Masse auf den Teig im tiefen Backblech gießen und gerade verstreichen. Den Kuchen auf mittlerer Schiene bei 180 Grad (vorgeheizt) 45 Minuten backen. O dia ensolarado parece ter motivado os eleitores brasileiros a irem votar mais cedo em Paris neste segundo turno das eleições. A fila já se formava antes mesmo do horário de abertura do local de votação na capital francesa neste domingo (30). Daniella Franco, da RFI O espaço La Rochefoucauld, no 9° distrito de Paris – único local de votação para os eleitores brasileiros na França – abriu às 8h da manhã pelo horário local (4h da manhã em Brasília). Mas desde as 6h eleitores já chegavam ao local. O objetivo era evitar a longa espera, como no primeiro turno, mas a fila já se estendia desde o início da manhã. Antes do início desta tarde, a fila já percorria diversas ruas do 9° distrito. O motivo de tanta espera é que o número de brasileiros inscritos para votar na França mais do que dobrou em relação às últimas eleições, passando de 11.047, em 2018, para 22.629 neste ano. Além disso, de acordo com o cônsul-geral do Brasil em Paris, Fábio Marzano, a expectativa é que a taxa de participação seja maior neste segundo turno. Para Marzano, tudo ocorre de forma tranquila e o forte clima de polarização não interfere na votação. “Está sendo como no primeiro turno, a gente só vê pessoas alegres. Estou em contato com a polícia e até o momento não temos notícia de nenhum problema. Está todo mundo muito ordeiro e feliz de vir votar e participar deste processo”, ressalta. Eleitores animados Desde o início da manhã, os eleitores estavam animados. Muitos vieram em família ou com amigos, alguns vestidos de vermelho, outros de verde e amarelo. Grupos cantaram músicas relativas a seus candidatos ou canções tradicionais brasileiras. Independentemente de em quem votam, todos relataram a vontade e a importância de participar dessas eleições, mesmo morando fora do Brasil. É o caso de Juliana Damares Silva Onofre, natural de São Paulo, que mora há seis anos em Paris. “O Brasil não saiu de mim. Acho que é importante votar para mudar o quadro que temos hoje. As opções não são as melhores, mas do jeito que está não dá para continuar”, diz. Essa é a primeira eleição de Eduardo Esteves, de 23 anos, natural do Rio de Janeiro, que foi votar com duas amigas, todos vestidos de vermelho. Para ele, o que está em jogo na votaçao não é só o futuro do Brasil. “É o futuro do mundo. O Brasil tem uma grande relevância não só na economia, mas nas questões ambientais no mundo. O meu voto é pela democracia, pelos direitos das pessoas, pelas minorias, pelo respeito às causas ambientais e sociais, que ficaram muito degradadas nesses últimos quatro anos”, sublinha. Elizabeth Sibion, natural do Espírito Santo, mora há 15 anos em Paris, e foi votar vestida de amarelo. “É a primeira vez que eu vejo essa situação que temos hoje. Tivemos quatro anos, e com pandemia e tudo, tivemos muitas obras e muitas benfeitorias no Brasil. Então é muito importante votar e espero que tudo aconteça corretamente, sem fraude”, afirma. Ao lado dela, a amiga Lania, também de amarelo, apoia suas declarações. “Eu sou altamente patriota e penso no meu país, na estabilidade. Para falar a verdade, nunca foi tão fácil escolher de que lado ficar”, salienta. As seções eleitorais de Paris fecham às 17h pelo horário local, 13h em Brasília. Segundo o cônsul-geral do Brasil em Paris, todos os eleitores que chegarem até as 17h poderão votar. Senhas serão distribuídas a partir deste horário para garantir a participação de todos.

Une grotte exceptionnelle sous le bourg de Saint-Projet, sur la commune de La Rochefoucauld... Cette cavité située à 20 m sous le sol du village a été découverte il y a un an par des spéléologues...Le tout jonché de vestiges archéologiques : des traces de pas encore visibles dans l'argile, des vases, des bols en céramique en parfait état. Des traces de feu, mais aussi des ossements d'humains. Le tout, intact, comme si le temps s'était arrêté il y a près de 3000 ans, au début de l'âge de bronze...Une grotte sépulcrale, qui servait aux rites funéraires. C'est en perçant un trou pour installer un lampadaire, en février 2021, que des agents communaux de Saint-Projet ont été intrigués par un filet d'air tiède qui s'échappait... Inzwischen kann ich selbst auf viele Jahre der Arbeit mit Menschen im Rahmen der Psychotherapie und Psychoanalyse zurückblicken und sage heute aus eigenem Erleben, ja das ist vollkommen zutreffend, die Aufrichtigkeit ist die Grundlage für einen erfolgreichen Verlauf. Viele andere Antworten wären auf diese Frage möglich gewesen, wie z. B. Vertrauen, Wertschätzung, Respekt, Achtsamkeit, Empathie, Nachsicht, Verständnis, Großherzigkeit usw. Doch ist es diese eine Qualität, welche allen diesen genannten, sehr bedeutsamen Tugenden vorangeht, die Aufrichtigkeit mit welcher wir uns selbst und dem Anderen gegenübertreten. Ein feiner, aber auch bedeutender Unterschied zwischen Ehrlichkeit und Aufrichtigkeit lässt sich dadurch kennzeichnen, dass Ehrlichkeit sich vor allem darauf bezieht, anderen nicht die Unwahrheit zu sagen. Aufrichtigkeit impliziert hingegen die Wahrhaftigkeit dem eigenen Selbst gegenüber. Aufrichtigkeit bedingt insofern die Fähigkeit zu sich selbst, seinen eigenen Stärken, aber auch Schwächen zu stehen und dies jedem gegenüber zu vertreten. Eine sehr schöne Umschreibung der Aufrichtigkeit stammt von François VI. de La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680), einem politisch aktiven französischen Adligen und Moralisten des 17. Jahrhunderts, indem er sie als das Sich-Öffnen des Herzens bezeichnete.

It's another episode about a Nietzsche influence. This time, rather than talking about a philosopher from Ancient Greece, we found one from the Ancien Régime: Francois de La Rochefoucauld, the author of the Moral Maxims. Like fellow French philosopher Jean de La Bruyère, La Rochefoucauld is "a man of one book". The Maxims - a volume that is about sixty pages in length - is his sole contribution to the Western philosophical canon. Yet, solely on the basis of this work, Voltaire praised La Rochefoucauld as the greatest master of language since the revival of letters. We'll briefly consider Rochefoucauld's life as a background for his work, study a few central epigrams and his prefaratory essay on self-love in order to lay the groundwork of his thought, compare his ideas to those of Nietzsche's, then take a quick look at a selection of his epigrams of my own choosing.  La Rochefoucauld's style was to write in very short epigrams, often merely a sentence-long. The content of his work is concerned with a number of themes, among them: self-love as the explanation of all human action; the rule of thumb that our true motives are usually concealed from ourselves; that our virtues are often merely our vices in a disguised form. Thus, La Rochefoucauld has the distinction among Nietzsche's influences, insofar as  he influenced Nietzsche both in style and substance. Ironically, the author of the Moral Maxims may have been an immoralist to prefigure Nietzsche. After all, he was one of the first psychologists... and isn't psychology inherently a vice?

Underneath Louis XIV's giant Menorah at Versailles, lies a latin cross, formed by a number of big lakes. The short arm of this cross points to a well-known site for fans of Oak Island, with great precision: the Château de La Rochefoucauld. This line makes a cross with the line to Jerusalem. BTW: As some people have already noted, the line from Versailles to Oak Island has a small deviation, of under a degree. Still, since Oak Island is the only place in New France (Nova Scotia) that has a cross pointing back at Versailles, with the same small deviation in conjunction with what we believe is overwhelming supporting evidence, we think there is a fair chance this was the intention. Especially if you take into account that the line spans over 5,000 km without a landmass in between. The line from Versailles to Jerusalem is very precise. François VI, duc de La Rochefoucauld, prince de Marcillac, est un écrivain, moraliste et mémorialiste français. Appartenant à l'une des plus illustres familles de la noblesse française, il succède le 1er mai 1629 à l'âge de 16 ans, en tant que mestre de camp du Régiment d'Estissac à son oncle Benjamin de La Rochefoucauld, comte d'Estissac. Le prince de Marcillac, très jeune, se mêle activement à toutes les intrigues de l'époque et prend part aux complots de Gaston de France et de la duchesse de Chevreuse contre le cardinal de Richelieu. Sa vie se voit dès lors ponctuée de disgrâces ; arrêté puis emprisonné à La Bastille pendant huit jours, il opte pour l'exil et se retire sur ses terres. À la mort de Richelieu (1642), il revient à la cour. Le cardinal Mazarin succède à Richelieu, mais l'animosité ne s'étiole pas. Blessé à plusieurs reprises au combat, il évitera de peu la cécité. Il fut fait maréchal de camp le 19 mai 1646. Jouissant de la faveur de Louis XIV, il se consacre à la réflexion. Pendant la Fronde, il prend le parti de la révolte nobiliaire encouragé par sa maîtresse le duchesse de Longueville, la propre sœur du Grand Condé. Leur fils né pendant le siège de la capitale sera nommé Charles-Paris. Après la mort de son père en 1650, il prend le titre de duc de La Rochefoucauld. Assagi, c'est alors que dans son château de Verteuil en Angoumois il rédige ses « Mémoires » qu'il consacre à la régence d'Anne d'Autriche et qui sont publiées sans son autorisation à Cologne en 1662. Le scandale le pousse à désavouer son œuvre. Il publia lui-même sa propre édition en 1665. Il fréquente dès lors les salons des « honnêtes gens » et se lie d'amitié avec la marquise de Sévigné, la marquise de Sablé et plus particulièrement avec la comtesse de La Fayette. Ses réflexions successives l'amèneront à publier un ouvrage inédit en 1665 : les Réflexions ou sentences et maximes morales (communément nommé « Maximes »), ponctué d'aphorismes philosophiques. Bien qu'il n'ait publié officiellement que ses "Mémoires" et ses "Maximes", sa production littéraire est dense. Il fut proche des jansénistes. La Rochefoucauld s'éteindra après avoir reçu l'extrême-onction des mains mêmes de Bossuet.

Il y explique non sans humour toutes ces petites phrases qui nous minent au quotidien. Et il sait de quoi il parle. Fondateur de Colombus Café, conférencier, chroniqueur… il a subi de nombreux échecs dans sa vie. Il a listé 12 expressions qui nous limitent, qui nous empêchent d'avancer. Pour bien comprendre ce livre, il faut avoir en tête que Philippe Bloch navigue beaucoup entre la France et les Etats-Unis. Chaque expression oppose la résignation au projet, la médiocrité à l'ambition, le défaitisme à la confiance, la peur à l'audace, l'indifférence à l'empathie, la souffrance au plaisir, la méchanceté à la générosité, le pessimisme à l'optimisme, le dénigrement à la fierté d'appartenance, la xénophobie à l'ouverture, la lâcheté au courage, la routine à la renaissance. Livre X, Fable 14 (English below) Jean de La Fontaine est un écrivain français du 17e siècle. Son oeuvre est diverse et touche à différents genres mais c'est pour ses réécritures des fables d'Ésope notamment que son nom a traversé les âges. Parmis les plus connus il y a Le Loup et l'Agneau, La Cigale et la Fourmi ou encore Le Corbeau et le Renard. Mais l'oeuvre complète est méconnue. Il y a au total 243 fables réparties en 12 tomes. C'est pourquoi je souhaite avec ce podcast faire découvrir le génie de La Fontaine et mettre à l'honneur toutes ses fables. Ce podcast est fait pour toutes personnes curieuse de découvrir les fables de La Fontaine. Ce peut également être un outil d'apprentissage de la littérature française et de la langue française. Il ne faut pas perdre de vu que La Fontaine écrit comme un homme du 17e siècle, il utilise donc des expressions qui sont aujourd'hui désuètes. Les enfants peuvent écouter ce podcast mais il faudra un adulte pour les aider à la compréhension du sens de certaines fables. J'espère que vous apprécierez l'écoute des épisodes! Among the best known there are The Wolf and the Lamb, The Cicada and the Ant or The Raven and the Fox. But the complete work is unknown. There are a total of 243 fables divided into 12 volumes. This is why I am making this podcast. I want to share the genius of La Fontaine and to honor all its fables. This podcast is made for anyone curious to discover the fables of La Fontaine. It can also be a tool for learning French literature and the French language. It should not be forgotten that La Fontaine writes as a man of the 17th century, so he uses expressions which are today obsolete. Children can listen to this podcast but it will take an adult to help them understand the meaning of some fables. I hope you will enjoy the listening of the episodes!

Lynette Wallworth is an artist who is no stranger to long periods of “self-imposed isolation” - the power of contemplation and stillness is pivotal when she creates new works, but this time round like all of us across the globe, this has shifted to “enforced isolation”. En face de l'Eglise Saint-Suplice, dans le centre de Paris, se trouve une fontaine monumentale de douze mètres, qui date du XIXe siècle. On l’appelle parfois la Fontaine des orateurs sacrés mais aussi, non sans une certaine ironie, la Fontaine des quatre points cardinaux. Et pourtant, les personnages qu’elle représente n’ont pas accédé à la pourpre cardinalice. Ils n’en sont pas moins des grands dans notre histoire de France : Bossuet, Fénelon, Fléchier et Massillon. Discussion of the Tory leadership race has shifted from questions of policy to issues of personal morality. Given that most of the candidates have admitted – to a greater or lesser extent – snorting, smoking or supping illegal substances at some point in the past, how thunderously should they be condemned? Shouldn’t people running for high office be blasted for their past ‘indiscretions’? Isn’t it right that any person in a position of privilege and authority who has shown a contempt for the law should suffer the consequences? Or should we worry that our 21st century witch-finders have developed an unhealthy obsession with ‘offence archaeology’ – the diligent digging-up of an historic misdemeanour and using it as a basis upon which to judge a person’s entire character? It’s been asserted that even worse than the crime itself is the sin of hypocrisy. An article from 1999 has been republished in which Michael Gove criticised "middle class professionals" who took drugs, at the same time that he himself was taking cocaine. He has defended himself against headlines calling him a hypocrite, saying: “If any of us lapse sometimes from standards that we uphold, that is human.” Hypocrisy is an easy accusation to hurl but a tricky sin to understand - La Rochefoucauld famously called it “a tribute vice pays to virtue". Our own moral boundaries are so often flexible, yet psychologists suggest we’re less inclined to give others the ethical wiggle room we might afford ourselves. I ego to może uwierać postronnych obserwatorów bo nie jest społecznie docięte i ugładzone. Dans cet épisode de Vieille Branche, Marie Misset s'est rendue dans les Yvelines, en Ile-de-France, à la rencontre de Francine Christophe, rescapée de la Shoah, alors qu'elle était enfant.Francine Christophe est née en 1933 à Paris. Elle grandit dans une famille de confession juive. A l'âge de 8 ans, en 1942, elle est arrêtée avec sa mère pendant qu'elles tentent de passer la ligne de démarcation à La Rochefoucauld, en Charente. Elles vont connaître pendant l'occupation plusieurs camps d'internement en France. En 1944, elles sont déportées à Bergen-Belsen, où elles resteront jusqu'à la Libération.A partir des années 1990, elle commence à témoigner et écrit plusieurs livres à ce sujet : Une petite fille privilégiée (1996, L'Harmattan), Après les camps la vie (2002), Le Pêle-Mêle, (2014, Dacres Editions).Vieille Branche est une émission de Nouvelles écoutes, animée par Marie Misset. Iowa native Paul Kix joins us on the DMPL Podcast today. Kix, who grew up in Hubbard, is the author of The Saboteur. The book details the life of Robert de La Rochefoucauld, a French aristocrat-turned-resistance fighter in WWII. During the podcast, Kix talks about: Finding out about La Rochefoucauld's life in an obituary and creating a book proposal. 5 minutes pour aborder les plus grandes répliques du cinéma : c’est le retour estival de Ma ligne de chance, sur Radio Campus Paris. Nous découvrons aujourd’hui le cinéma de Tarantino. En particulier, nous abordons son film culte : Pulp Fiction. Car dans celui-ci se trouve une scène qui nous permettra de réfléchir sur l'amour-propre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHTeq3klVZY « Pride only hurts, it never helps ». « L’orgueil fait seulement mal, il n’aide jamais. » Cette réplique de Ving Rhames nous a donné à penser. Et voici notre interprétation, subjective bien sûr, de cette trouvaille du scénariste-réalisateur Quentin Tarantino. Cette réplique est celle d’un personnage secondaire, Marsellus Wallace, incarné par Ving Rhames. Marsellus est le patron de nombreux truands. D'ailleurs, il est un gangster lui-même. Dans la scène qui nous intéresse, Marsellus est face à un boxeur, Butch Coolidge. Celui-ci va disputer le lendemain le dernier combat de sa carrière. Or Marsellus lui remet de l’argent : car il attend en échange que Butch perde le combat à un moment précis. Face aux hésitations de Butch, Marsellus prononce sa célèbre réplique. Nous avons traduit « pride » par « orgueil ». Mais cela n’a rien d’évident. Le mot anglais recouvre les sens français de fierté, d’honneur, de vanité. Un mot, courant dans l’histoire de la philosophie, réunit ces différentes idées : l’amour-propre. Ainsi Marsellus enjoint à Butch de n’avoir pas d’amour-propre. Autrement dit, il l'incite à n'avoir pas d’état d’âme, pas de scrupule quant à être corrompu. Dans ce rejet de l'amour-propre, Marsellus semble se rapprocher de Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Le philosophe a développé ses théories notamment dans le Discours sur l’origine et les fondements de l’inégalité parmi les hommes. Kate and her husband Andy created a mult-million dollar empire with their handbag company, Kate Spade. In 2016 she returned from a decade long hiatus to launch Frances Valentine, an accessories line named after her daughter and changed her name to Kate Valentine. Her husband Andy said she had struggled with depression and anxiety for five years, was under a doctor's care, and was on medication trying to heal, but "she battled personal demons." Her sister believed she had bipolar disorder. The news of Kate's tragic death has caused social media to blow up. Features and benefits, features and benefits, features and benefits. We've polished our pitches to such a degree that we've dimmed our abilities to persuade. The customer is only half listening because the inner self is asking, “What are they not telling me?” Those who have heard my 90-minute presentation about the ongoing evolution of Western communication style are familiar with the problem: 1. The fine art of Hype has been perfected and refined. 2. Western culture has been submerged in it, held under until every last pore of our souls has been saturated. 3. Consequently, we've developed an immunity to “ad-speak,” the language of hype. 4. But we don't rage against it. We see the half-truth of hype as a fact of life. 5. That's why we're ignoring it. 6. And we're ignoring it in greater numbers every day. Do you want to surprise Broca, gain the attention of your customer and win back your credibility? Learn to name features, benefits, and downside. Trust me, the customer is already trying to figure out the downside. Why not just tell them? It's the best possible way to insulate yourself from the backlash when they finally figure it out for themselves. This powerful “tell the truth” technique is easily perverted into just another oily sales trick when the downside you name isn't the real one. As Francois Duc de La Rochefoucauld observed 350 years ago, “We only confess our little faults to persuade people that we have no big ones.” I'm saying confess the big ones. Knock your customers flat with your candor. Yes, it will cost you a few sales you might otherwise have made. But it will make you far more sales than it costs you. People aren't as stupid as you think. Roy H. Williams
