God sovereignly places us in the right opportunities at the right time to faithfully complete his mission for us. But with this mission, there will also be unique trials that we will need one another to overcome.

Advancing the Gospel Together Charles Alexander Sands / General Advance Together / Acts 11:19–30 Acts 8:1–4 ESV 1 And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him. 3 But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison. 4 Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. Acts 11:19–21 ESV 19 Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. 20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. What can we say about the scattered disciples? 1. Their displacement from Jerusalem was unscheduled but not unplanned (God always has a plan ). 2. They courageously embraced God’s plan to advance the gospel anywhere and everywhere He sent them. 3. They embraced God’s plan that they advance the gospel together . Philippians 2:1–2 ESV 1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 4. When they were together they couldn’t stop talking about Jesus , amongst themselves and to anyone who would listen, even Gentiles. Takeaway: God’s hand is always with His people when they embrace His plan to advance the gospel together.
Our friend, Eugene Cho lays out the very heartbeat of Reach by declaring a big gospel and inviting us to embrace both the Great Commission (make disciples) and the Great Commandment (love your neighbor).
