On this episode of the Xian Archive Podcast, Matt is joined by music producer, drummer & DJ Zach Morillo. As the artist ‘ MORiLLO ', Zach has released three albums, three ep's, and a multitude of singles and remixes on established labels such as Gravitas Recordings, Muti Music, High Vibe Records, Tribal Trap, Hybrid Trap, Simplify, and Play Me Records. As he continues to build his project, Zach's music has been celebrated by music lovers and DJ's on stages and at festivals around the world. During the conversation the two discuss Zach's musical path, his experiences with festivals, psychedelics and synchronicity. They also discuss ecstatic dance, musical gear, DAWS and mindset for creating, plus more. At the young age of 7, Zach's journey in music began when he became close friends with his next-door neighbors, the children of the late legendary drummer, Jeff Porcaro. Through spending time at Jeff's house in Orlando, Florida, Zach was exposed to the life of a musician and first sat down behind a set of drums. He quickly discovered his natural talent and passion for music and rhythm. Making music has been his life's focus ever since. Zach attended the Music and Performing Arts magnet program at Dr. Phillips High School where he learned to master rudimentary skills, serving as the captain of the drum-line and studying privately with jazz greats, Danny Gottlieb and Joe Morello. His musical education continued at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music where he was awarded scholarship for a Jazz Drums major in the Studio Music and Jazz Bachelors program. During his time at UM, he quickly became one of the most sought after drummers in school and in the greater Miami and South Florida area. He performed regularly with many of the local hip-hop, reggae, and rock bands while working steadily in the corporate top-40 circuit. With a desire to expand his opportunities across the music world, Zach moved to Los Angeles in 2012. He quickly found work as a touring drummer for internationally acclaimed artists RHYE, Childish Gambino, and Groundation and has traveled the world performing at the biggest and best festivals and venues like Coachella, Red Rocks, and The Hollywood Bowl. In addition, he has been creating and developing his own unique sound and identity through music production and djing. Zebbler Encanti Experience (aka “ZEE”) is an audio/visual collaboration between video artist Zebbler and electronic music producer Encanti, based out of Boston, Massachusetts and Valencia, Spain. The Experience is an immersive performance of mapped visuals on three custom winged projection screens, synchronized with heavy peak-hour psychedelic bass music, resulting in the creation of a fantasy world for audiences to lose themselves in. Zebbler Encanti Experience released a critically-acclaimed EP, End Trance, on standout bass label Wakaan, coupled with a performance at the inaugural Wakaan Festival. Coming out of the pandemic, ZEE released Syncorswim on longtime label Gravitas Recordings, which is a full audio-visual album exploring the ambient, glitchy, and IDM side of the project. Beautiful natural visuals accompany gorgeous, synth-heavy grooves. This different perspective gives fans a whole new look at what an A/V project can be. ZEE have seen a considerable amount of road time in the last few years, serving as integral members of multiple tour teams. The architect behind the projection mapped projects for Shpongle and EOTO, and assisting with Infected Mushroom's stage construction, Zebbler has toured the United States nonstop producing visual shows and performing as a VJ at hundreds of high profile events. In addition to ZEE performing as direct touring support for EOTO in venues throughout the country, and performing in the Shpongle Live band during their first few shows in the United States and final appearance at Red Rocks, Encanti has carved out some time to teach electronic music production to graduate students in the Valencia, Spain wing of Berklee College of Music. Based in Austin, Texas, he has been actively releasing solo material since 2009. It's all about community. People connecting, sharing ideas, collaborating and supporting each other. This is something Jesse Brede, founder of Gravitas Recordings, understands. I think we can all picture that stereotypical record label, with the stack of demos on a desk that just get shoveled into the trash without ever being heard. Gravitas Recordings is different. They want to hear new music and are looking for new artists all the time. They've found a unique way to reach the community of producers through their new site, Gravitas Create. In this episode, I got to speak with Jesse about being a part of the music community, finding and encouraging new artists, and educating young people and involving them in the music making process. Cosmic dust is dust which exists in outer space. Most cosmic dust particles are between a few molecules to 0.1 µm in size. A smaller fraction of all dust in space consists of larger refractory minerals that condensed as matter left the stars. It is called “stardust” and is included in a separate section below. The dust density in the local interstellar medium of the Local Bubble is approximately 10−6 × dust grain/m3 with each grain having a mass of approximately 10−17 kg. Cosmic dust can be further distinguished by its astronomical location: intergalactic dust, interstellar dust, interplanetary dust (such as in the zodiacal cloud) and circumplanetary dust (such as in a planetary ring). In the Solar System, interplanetary dust causes the zodiacal light. Sources of Solar System dust include comet dust, asteroidal dust, dust from the Kuiper belt, and interstellar dust passing through the Solar System. The terminology has no specific application for describing materials found on the planet Earth except for dust that has demonstrably fallen to Earth. By one estimate, as much as 40,000 tons of cosmic dust reaches the Earth’s surface every year. In October 2011, scientists reported that cosmic dust contains complex organic matter (“amorphous organic solids with a mixed aromatic–aliphatic structure”) that could be created naturally, and rapidly, by stars. On August 14, 2014, scientists announced the collection of possible interstellar dust particles from the Stardust spacecraft since returning to Earth in 2006.
