If you've expanded your options, checked your mindset, and reality tested your assumptions — but you're still not sure — it might be a timing problem. In this episode, I dig into when to go fast and when to go slow. There's a concept I picked up called "thinking gray" (deliberately refusing to form an opinion until you have to) that plays a big role in this process. Also, I'll talk about a simple question that has shaped some of the biggest moments of my life: "How will I feel about this in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years?" That question literally changed everything from family life to business for me, and I think it will for you, too.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. Stop Being Nice: Jung's Shadow Self and the Confidence That Comes From Boundaries Mindset habits and authentic success rarely get discussed together—but forced emotions are costing entrepreneurs real progress. In this episode, Tracy unpacks why your anger isn't the problem, your smile is. Learn the neuroscience of emotional suppression, why performative positivity sabotages your mindset, and how building emotional authenticity becomes your most powerful self-improvement habit. Perfect for busy entrepreneurs tired of toxic productivity culture. https://YourSuccessDNA.com Tracy argues that Carl Jung's “shadow self”, the parts of you you refuse to acknowledge like anger, competitiveness, selfishness, and the capacity to hurt, drives self-sabotage when it's suppressed behind a “nice” persona. It criticizes toxic positivity and people-pleasing (fawning) for training people to bury boundary violations, creating cognitive dissonance, exhaustion, resentment, and stalled progress. The host reframes anger as “data” signaling violated boundaries and defines being “dangerous” as being willing to disappoint, say no, take up space, and be disliked without becoming cruel. Using a workplace example, it shows how acknowledging anger enables assertive action (direct conversation, documentation, matching effort, or leaving), building confidence through self-respect and psychological coherence. The episode ends with a journaling exercise to name someone you perform for and write what you've been too nice to say, promoting shadow integration and individuation. 00:00 Shadow Runs Your Life 00:59 Anger Is Data 02:08 Meet The Shadow Self 03:29 People Pleasing Trap 04:06 Be Dangerous Not Nice 05:51 Confidence Through Coherence 07:07 Workplace Boundary Example 09:29 Toxic Positivity Exposed 11:14 Integrate Your Darkness 13:26 No Middle Path 16:00 One Action Tonight 17:04 Be Whole Be Dangerous shadow self, Carl Jung, shadow work, people pleasing, toxic positivity, self confidence, setting boundaries, why nice people finish last, fawning, trauma response, Self-sabotage, how to be more assertive, success habits, habits for success, mindset success, productivity, self improvement, mindset, success mindset, mindset habits, emotional fitness Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We can walk around with a massive set of unquestioned assumptions running our lives, yet not even know it.We might think we're being rational, but we've got confirmation bias working overtime. There's research showing that people on opposite sides of a debate can read the exact same article, and both walk away more convinced they were right. On top of that, the people with the least skill in an area tend to be the most confident about how good they are (look up the Dunning-Kruger effect — it's humbling). In this episode I get into how to actually break through that by running real experiments with real hypotheses. I'll also share the story of when I set up a clear test for a new business, watched it fail, and then talked myself into ignoring my own results for two and a half years.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. Most of us get stuck in either/or thinking way more than we realize. Should I take the job or not? Buy the house or not? Marry the girl or not? And when you reduce a big decision down to yes or no, it gets heavy fast — because now there's only two outcomes and one of them feels like loss. In this episode I walk through a handful of ways to break out of that trap. One of these is what I call a "root cause rethink," where you go back and ask why you actually want the thing in the first place (the answer might surprise you). There are almost always more than two choices. And if someone is pressuring you to decide right now between two options, that should be a red flag, not a motivator.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. In this episode of the Growth Now Movement, I reconnect with entrepreneur and visionary builder Chuck Balsamo for the first time in five years, and this conversation dives deep into productivity, focus, entrepreneurship, family, legacy, and the systems required to build something truly meaningful. Chuck shares what life has looked like during the last several years of building new ventures, staying intensely focused on growth, and learning how to protect both his energy and his time while still showing up for the people who matter most. We talk extensively about the importance of building "fortresses" of productivity by intentionally designing environments that reduce distraction, minimize decision fatigue, and create opportunities for deep work. Chuck explains how time blocking, routines, boundaries, and intentional calendar management have become essential tools for both business success and personal peace. Drawing from concepts popularized by Daniel H. Pink around willpower, discipline, and habits, Chuck breaks down why most people fail to protect their focus and how entrepreneurs can create systems that allow them to perform at a higher level consistently without burning out. One of the most powerful parts of this conversation is Chuck's perspective on legacy. As his businesses have grown, he's become increasingly aware that every "yes" comes at the expense of something else, often time with family. We discuss the emotional realities of entrepreneurship, the tradeoffs that come with ambition, and why saying "no" is one of the most important skills anyone can develop. Chuck also introduces his newest venture, uSpace, a premium backyard remote workspace designed to create an undistracted environment for focused work, creativity, and productivity. Behind every decision you make, there's a background assumption running: "do I believe there is enough, or do I believe there is not enough?" Enough opportunities, enough good options, enough time, enough resources. That assumption changes everything. In this episode I dig into how abundance and scarcity shape our choices in career, relationships, and life. Also, why every generation has predicted the end of civilization and been wrong, and how I discovered that the guy who "didn't feel fear" had actually built his entire life around avoiding it.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. Not all decisions should be handled the same way, and not all people should approach decisions the same way either. That might sound obvious, but most of us have one default mode and we apply it to everything. In this episode I dig into the personal wiring side of decision making -- your certainty quotient (how sure do you need to be before you pull the trigger?), how sensitive you are to social pressure versus your own internal voice, and whether the decision you're facing is even the kind that deserves all that processing. My wife spent 100 hours researching baby monitors. I went to the store and bought the wrong one on purpose. We're both wrong sometimes -- and that's kind of the whole point.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. This is the start of a new miniseries on decision making — and I'd argue it might be the most important skill behind everything else we talk about on this show. Your career, your health, your relationships...it all flows downstream from the choices you make. At our core, we are decision-making entities. Viktor Frankl said it from inside a concentration camp: the last of the human freedoms is to choose your own attitude in any given set of circumstances. The good news is that choosing is a skill, and you can get better at it. I'll share the story of King Solomon — who was offered health, wealth, or fame and asked for none of them — and why that one move unlocked everything else. This is where the miniseries begins, and I think it could change how you see every decision you make from here on out.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. One of the most practical things I've learned from spending time with billionaires and common folk alike is this: treat rock stars like regular people and regular people like rock stars. We all carry two deep desires: to be special, and to belong. And most of the time, famous people are starved to just feel normal and connected, while "regular" people are starved to feel seen and celebrated.I'll get tactical on how this actually plays out. The words you use, the questions you ask, and even the facial expressions you give can make a massive difference. Getting this right has opened massive doors for me, and it's a reward in and of itself to know that you're helping people feel truly "seen." I think these strategies could transform the way you approach your interactions in life, too.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. If you are interested in having him speak to your organization, you can see the options and schedule time to talk with Scott about your event here: https://scottwozniak.com/speaking/---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool.
