Movie reviews #49 coming in hot today. Just 5 70's movies to review, sooooo let's review the review. 1. (The Andromeda Strain 1971) Epic movie Director Robert Wise is at the helm here, with a movie Based on a Michael Crichton novel way before it was a 90's standard thing to do. That statement is dead wrong though, there are 9 MC novels or short stories adapted into films in the 70's, 3 in the 80's, and 7 in the 90's. I think it's only because Jurassic Park had the hype of like 6 70's movies, shit, I dunno. This movie is about a deadly element from space, SCIENCE, and a real cool facility that gives you paper clothes. 2. (Boxcar Bertha 1972) Not to jump the shark but I think this one's easy, we all agree that we love Bertha, but not so much this early Martin Scorsese film. Barbara Hershey rules, also Bill of Kill Bill, and the history teacher of Bill and Ted are here. 3. (In this house of Brede 1975) Don't yuk this bizarre recovering catholic's yum, but here we have Diana Ring as Nun, say no more! ok just a bit more she is a woman who is sick of all the shitty men and bullshit and goes to the convent to get away from it all and do rad shit in peace, apparently I should read the book too. 4. (Death on the Nile 1978) I'm sorry but I do love me some Peter Ustinov, He is Agatha Christie's Poirot here, along with flippin every one else. Mia Farrow, Bette Davis, Miss murder she done sat down and wrote, David Niven, Jack Warden, and Professor McGonagall, to name a few. This time they are on a boat not a train. 5. (Birth of the Beatles 1979) Waited for the encore tv airing of this so I could record it with a video cassette that I had bought. This one hugely influenced me to want to play music. Wonderful to finally see this again with friends and review. This movie is from the director of Return of the Jedi. we out, thanks for listening.

Ester Barendregt gaat met Otto Raspe in gesprek over zijn recent gehouden oratie aan Tilburg University. Wat houdt de bijzondere rol van Professor of Practice in en welke inhoudelijke invulling geeft hij hieraan? Vanuit het vertrekpunt dat we verder moeten kijken dan economische groei om welvaart goed te duiden - ook wel de ‘beyond GDP'-discussie genoemd - gaat Raspe in op 'brede welvaart'. Waarbij economische groei niet het doel is, maar eerder een middel. De economie loopt momenteel tegen haar grenzen aan en zal dus van richting moeten veranderen. Een nieuwe koers moeten kiezen.

Thank you so much. Henry Cuyler Bunner (1855-1896) Was an American journalist, novelist, and poet. His works were largely anthologized in the early 1900s, but he's mostly forgotten now. His short story about the comedic adventures of a circus elephant, Zenobia's Infidelity, was made into a film in 1939 starring Oliver Hardy. This piece stuck out to me because there are some really nice moments of description, and the way characters can be described so concisely. Luisteraars! We spraken Marnix van Rij (CDA), staatssecretaris van Financiën. Dat de Belastingdienst het zwaar heeft is geen nieuws. Het is zelfs stokoud nieuws. De staatssecretaris van Financiën was de afgelopen jaren een soort politieke crashtestdummy. Iemand die elk moment weer de laan uit kon worden gestuurd, omdat er ergens bij de Belastingdienst weer een lijk uit een kast donderde (de toeslagenaffaire, de vertrekregeling, totaal verouderde ICT). Daadkrachtige bewindslieden kondigden al heel wat daadkrachtige actieplannen aan: de Brede agenda (2014); de Investeringsagenda (2015); de Herijkte investeringsagenda (2017); Beheerst vernieuwen (2018); Beheerst vernieuwen/Zichtbaar beter (2019); de splitsing van de Belastingdienst (2020). Maar veel beter hebben al die structuuringrepen de situatie niet gemaakt; integendeel. Marnix van Rij legt in de podcast uit dat hij het anders gaat doen: hij wil namelijk niks doen. Geen grote ingrepen, rust in de tent, en eindelijk al het achterstallige onderhoudswerk afronden. Of nu ja, er zijn misschien nog wel een paar dingen om af te schaffen. Nederland kent meer dan honderd fiscale regelingen – belastingdouceurtjes voor Jan en alleman. Kwarttarieven voor kampeervoertuigen, accijnsvrijstellingen voor kleine brouwerijen, hypotheekrentaftrek voor woningbezitters. Als er al een doel is van zulk belastingbeleid, dan wordt dat doel vaak tegen grote kosten behaald. In een Kamerbrief kondigde Van Rij aan dat hij ‘negatief geëvalueerde regelingen [wil] afschaffen, versoberen of aanpassen'. Dat zijn revolutionaire teksten, als je beseft dat slechts een fractie van de fiscale regelingen positief is geëvalueerd door economen. Maar zal het versoberen en afschaffen van regelingen ook echt lukken? Er liggen nu namelijk negatieve evaluaties van het verlaagde btw-tarief op geneesmiddelen, voedingsmiddelen en cultuur. Zullen die populaire belastingkortingen werkelijk verdwijnen? Er is grote politieke druk om het btw-tarief op groente en fruit verder te verlagen (hoewel een vooronderzoek nu al laat zien dat het moeilijk is een juridisch houdbare, gezondheidsbevorderende en doelmatige variant te verzinnen). En wat als een regeling negatief wordt geëvalueerd, maar de regeling wel de achterban van de staatssecretaris raakt? Houdt hij dan de rug recht? Wat bijvoorbeeld te denken van de bedrijfsopvolgingsfaciliteit, een belastingregeling waardoor erfgenamen van bedrijfseigenaren geen belasting zijn verschuldigd over de bedrijven die zij erven (negatief geëvalueerd)? Of de landbouwvrijstelling, waardoor boeren geen vennootschapsbelasting betalen over de winst op hun landbouwgronden (negatief geëvalueerd)? Tot slot bespraken we nog de rol die Nederland speelt in het internationale systeem van belastingontwijking door multinationals. Is Nederland nog altijd een soort belastingparadijs, of is er inmiddels vooruitgang geboekt? Leesvoer bij deze aflevering • We noemden meerdere malen de toeslagenaffaire.
