Grynch Paper Route (feat. Sir Mix‐A‐Lot) from the 2022 self-released album Born in '86. Nearly fifteen years after dropping his debut full-length, My Second Wind, Grynch is back with his first solo record since 2014 titled Born in ‘86. While it may be a solo record, that doesn't mean the Seattle-born-and-bred rapper isn't still open to sharing the mic. The deeply collaborative artist invited artists like Boom Bap Project, Blake Lewis, Prometheus Brown, and Daz Dillinger to help add color to the nostalgia-hued record. But there's no collaboration more deeply Seattle than our Song of the Day. “Paper Route” sees none other than the big-booty-loving Sir Mix a Lot join Grynch for a song that recognizes the resilience it takes to continue on the winding and fickle journey of being a longstanding musician. “I could never do a thing that I aint about,” Grynch spits on the chorus, “Suckers out here running miles /Chasing clout /But when it's all said and done and they faded out /I'm gonna still be getting mine on my paper route.” Watch Grynch's KEXP in-studio performance of fan-favorite “My Volvo” from all the way back in 2010 and read the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Khingz - Fort Cash Money from the 2022 album Over The World on OTOW/ freshcutflowers. Khingz has long been an influential force in the Seattle hip hop scene, with the crowning achievement of Best MC of the Year in 2009 according to Seattle Weekly for his groundbreaking record From Slaveships to Spaceships. A powerful collaborator, Khingz has worked with Geologic of Blue Scholars, Macklemore, and KEXP's own Gabriel Teodros in the hip-hop supergroup Good Medicine, with B-Flat and Crispy of Godspeed as the trio Hi-Life Soundsystem, and, once again, with Teodros as well as rapper Nam under the project The Livin Yard. His latest single and our Song of the Day reiterates Khingz' affinity for collaboration. Over a twinkling piano line and vibrant high hats, Khingz waxes poetic about his desire to bring up the people around him and the power and importance of doing so in “Fort Cash Money.” “Please God make me useful for those I love,” Khingz pleads. “I just wanna be the plug /I just wanna bring them power.” The song comes from Khingz' latest full-length and first in 13 years, Over the World, released last month. Khingz will be playing the Clock Out Lounge on July 23rd for the latest installment of The Good Foot alongside notable names such as the aforementioned Geologic and Grynch. In this episode of the “Am I Crazy Or Am I Raving” Henry’s Child Podcast Tobby and Thom sit down to talk about everything music-related. They start with the story of how Tobby joined Henry’s Child: A recommendation from a friend (Bishop Freeman of band “Toxic Zombie”) and the reputation of the band were two big factors that contributed to Tobby saying “Yes!”. Tobby tells the story of how he moved from Myrtle Beach to Eugene, joining “Grynch” and eventually putting together “We Have Guns”. Tobby rekindles a story about how he created a website for the Eugene studio Central Node and got offered a job in Portland, where he eventually moved to a few years ago. We play the songs “Toy Soldier” from “Grynch” and “Dead Rising” from “We Have Guns”. Tobby discussed the amount of instruments he plays, including a degree in Flamenco Guitar, and why he is passionate about drums. We talk about the momentum that swung him into taking the gig with Henry’s Child. This includes what it took to honor the original recordings, when playing them for live shows, and ultimately how that affected his playing on the new album. Tobby talks about what it took to keep the sound as close to Henry’s Child as possible, while putting his own spin on it at the same time. We end this episode with Tobby mentioning an important upcoming gig on 3/23/18 in Lebanon. It’s a benefit for Jason Rowe (from “Strange Dichotomy” and “30 Pound Test”), who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The benefit is two nights, with 10 bands each night. We've really been enjoying doing these interviews, documenting our scene and we hope that you've enjoyed them as well. We decided that in addition though we also want to have some opportunities to just hang out, chop it up and talk about whatever comes to mind. Sooooo... every other week we're going to be bringing you a new episode that we're calling "The Sesh". We are going to do our best to have a guest on each one as well but instead of spending the whole time strictly talking about their life/career, we'll have the freedom to talk about new music, movies, politics and much, much more! Expect to hear new guests and of course "friends of the show", so tell a friend to tell a friend that you'll now be getting a new episode (in theory) Every Single Week! #ItsTheBiggest
In the first of a two-part interview, Grendel welcomes in Seattle rapper Dave Mazzeo (a.k.a Wizdom) for Episode 37 of Punk Rock Pariah. The two breach a million different topics from Sonicsgate and social justice in Catholic education to his music and how weight loss is like a drug. There's something for everyone here!
We had a chance to sit down with "Mr. Thrift Shop" himself Wanz for a great convo about his musical history, touring the world nonstop for three years straight, whats next after having a platinum grammy winning song and transitioning back to a 9-5 job in the meantime. As always #ItsTheBiggest!
Grynch came by to chop it up about Mortal Kombat, G-Funk, white rappers, Star Wars and a million other things. Great conversation with my dude. Joe wasn't available for this one but he and a special guest make a cameo on the intro
