Brief introduction of this very "Fun" Command Performance where all the stars play characters in a Dick Tracy story "Dick Tracy in B-Flat" Unusual show as generally the stars did solo performances or participated in some comedy skit. On this show they mostly play in the skit. Excuse? They said the troops were spending a lot of time reading comic books, so they re-created a comic book story from the Dick Tracy strip. Will be stored in Command Performance playlist.
#48 In this episode I open the floor to an important ingredient of great Music: the Mysterious. Music is often beautiful for reasons that we don't quite grasp, it is tricky to point at what makes a piece unique and profound. I invite you to stay open when listening to music that lets the element of Mystery take over. In this episode I will discuss and provide examples of three works by modern and classical composers.Perugia – by Roland Hanna – Apple MusicPerugia - by Roland Hanna | SpotifyPiano Sonata No. 21 in B-Flat, D. 960: II. Yahrtzeit Yomi #1093!! כה סיון Reb Yossele Rosenblatt The King of Cantors ר׳ יוסף ב״ר רפאל שלום רוזנבלט מלך החזנים (1882 - 1933) ---------------------------------------------------- Yahrtzeit Yomi for the final week of Sivan is dedicated לעילוי נשמת רב יעקב בן ר׳ אברהם ז״ל ת.נ.צ.ב.ה. ---------------------------------------------------- Friends, as any seasoned follower of Yahrtzeit Yomi knows, NOBODY can do it as well as Reb Yaakov Brown, Curator of Klal Yisrael!! On the occasion of the 91st yahrtzeit of Reb Yossele Rosenblatt zl (כה סיון), YY is honored to present the following stunning tribute to “The King of Cantors”. Our utmost gratitude is extended to Reb Yaakov Shlita for his gracious and selfless dedication to the cause of spreading inspiration to the Jewish people!! זייט מצליח!! By a show of hands, how many of you are fans of chazzanus? (......Insert crickets here......) That's what I thought. However, in spite of this, it behooves us to step outside of our normal comfort zones, and very briefly (- emphasis on neither very nor briefly -) cover the life and career of The King of Cantors - The Golden Voice of Jewish Music, Yossele Rosenblatt. I think you'll find it's worth the read. Standing at not much more than five feet tall, Rosenblatt was still an impressive figure with his heavy, dark beard and fastidious appearance. Until the early post–World War I years, Rosenblatt pretty much dominated the world of chazzanus in America. Reviewers sometimes described him as a man with two, even three voices: a warm baritone, a ringing tenor, and a shimmering falsetto. What's more, he could navigate between them with ease. Rosenblatt, almost completely self-trained, had perfect pitch and could read the most difficult musical score at sight. He had a pure voice of extraordinary sweetness and carrying ability. The placement of his voice was fantastic. It was facetiously said that he could hit a fly in the gallery with a high B Flat. The voice itself was not large in size or in volume, but so well was it placed that it carried to the furthest part of any auditorium with utmost ease, whether in a heavenly pianissimo or in a ringing forte. His range was phenomenal. To get a little more technical for the vocalists out there, he sang into bass clef with no effort whatsoever and was able - in falsetto - to reach a sustained E above high C, a male range extending some three octaves, about a third more than is customary for an average good operatic tenor. The singer's vocal control was something that had to be heard to be believed. His ability to sing runs, trills, sustain a legato, handle coloratura passages and to color his voice all came from a technique no longer taught and which has not been known for well over three-quarters of a century. ... Send us a Text Message.Feeling tired? Need to unwind? Then how about some gentle, soothing piano music? Welcome to the the Episode 4 of Series 5 in the Relaxing Piano Playlist! In this episode, I perform for you music by Bach, Chopin, Schubert-Liszt, Grieg, MacDowell and Mvt 2 of Mozart's Piano Concerto No.27 in B Flat.
There are a few tropes when it comes to Schubert's late music. The pieces are very long. They have four movements. The first two movemnts are expansive, magisterial explorations of the human psyche, and the last two movements are much lighter, almost like two different pieces are at play. All of these tropes fit the Schubert B Flat Sonata we started talking about a couple of weeks ago. After the huge first movement, Schubert takes us into a world of the most remarkably simple and yet profoundly moving music in the second movement, followed by a scherzo and last movement that seem(and I emphasize the word seem) to wash all of that away. The last two movements of this sonata in particular have come in for criticism in some quarters, but this is nothing new for Schubert. You hear this criticism about his G Major Quartet, his cello quintet, and other large scale works. It's also been theorized that the final two movement “curse” Schubert seemed to struggle with is why he left his 8th symphony unfinished. But as you'll hear today, I don't think there's much, if anything, to criticize in these final two movements, and I'll try to argue that there's no drop off in quality in this music, just a different approach and outlook. But the bulk of today's show will be about this second movement. There is something beyond otherworldy in this character of Schubert's music. It doesn't belong to our world, but it doesn't belong to another world either. Instead it goes somewhere even deeper than we can possibly imagine. Schubert goes to a different place than any other composer when he is in this “mood,” and in this movement, that bleak character is married to profound consolation, creating a movement of utter perfection. So let's explore the final three movements of this remarkable Sonata together. Join us!
For a long time I've received emails and messages from people asking, and sometimes demanding, that I explore the solo piano repertoire. Other than a look at the Goldberg Variations of Bach, I've basically neglected a huge amount music, including some of the greatest works ever written. Why have I been doing this? Well, if I'm totally honest, it's been slightly out of a sense of intimidation. I'm not a pianist, and I've always been somewhat in awe of the piano and pianists. Even after spending years with this music, I still felt that I just simply didn't know the solo piano repertoire well enough to do it justice. Well, now that I've gone through ALMOST all of the symphonic standard repertoire, and now that I've started exploring the string quartet repertoire, I think it's time to throw off this sense of awe and dive right in. You might think I might not reach too high to start off, maybe an early Beethoven sonata, or a Mozart or Haydn Sonata. Well, in my opinion you've got to go big or go home, so I've decided to explore one of the towering masterpieces not only of the solo piano genre, but of all music, Schubert's Sonata in B Flat Major. This is a piece that has been described as “well-nigh perfect,” as “beyond analysis,” as including “the most extraordinary trill in the history of music,” and as “the climax and apotheosis of Schubert's instrumental lyricism and his simplicity of form.” These are just a few of the superlatives I've found in researching this piece. It was written in the last weeks of Schubert's short life, and it truly does take the listener on an unforgettable journey. There is nothing quite like Schubert's final works, and so over the next two episodes, I will take you through this remarkable sonata, a piece that Alex Ross has described as “a premature communication from the beyond.” This is a huge piece, with so much to talk about, so I've split this episode into two parts. This week we'll look at the first movement, and then in two weeks we'll cover the final three movements. Join us!

Today I'll explore some fundamental aspects of Beethoven's music through one of his early-mid works, the Sonata in B-flat op. 22. The revolution operated by the composer is about the power of sound as vehicle for carrying energy and tension: his masterful command over the musical form has transformed the way we enjoy and create music, from his contemporaries to today's listeners.L.v.Beethoven Sonata No. 11 in B-Flat op. 22AppleMusic Spotify Support Where is the Music Podcast through: PATREONWhere is the Music Podcast is on:SPOTIFYAPPLEYOUTUBE TUNEINRSS FEEDFollow Alberto L. Donald Macleod explores Carl Maria von Weber's city lives and those dramas and scandals survived throughout. Weber's relationship with European cities mirrored his life and work, from the restless wandering of his earlier years, to the way his life changed after the success of his opera Der Freischütz. And in his final months he travelled to London to compose and produce another major opera, Oberon, but would die after giving its first performances. The young Weber had an unerring ability to cause offence. He got involved in multiple love affairs that caused him problems. He was also very good at racking up debts. These traits unfold as we follow Weber's picaresque journeys around Europe, flitting from city to city: sometimes chasing opportunities, sometimes in disgrace, at other times escorted away under armed guard. Donald Macleod explores the work of Franz Schubert, focusing on five distinct phases in the composer's life. And afterlife. We start in 1815, the year in which Schubert turned 18 and was a reluctant schoolmaster still living under his father's roof. Although he was in many ways unhappy and constrained by his circumstances, he was still prodigiously prolific. In the years after 1820, we see him spreading his wings as he'd never been able to do before, enjoying a sense of liberation after being shackled to the schoolroom in his father's house. In 1824 we see a year of ill-health for Schubert, but also a year of fighting back, with attempted cures and triumphant, ambitious music. In Schubert's final year – inevitably coloured by sadness, but also by great spirit and tenacity - emerged what is for many people Schubert's crowning achievement: his song-cycle Winterreise. Schubert died at the age of 31, when most people are just getting going in life – in the same decade as Keats and Byron and Shelley – and he's often thought of, with them, as an exemplar of a kind of doomed romanticism. Central to that is a sense of having been thwarted in life – encapsulated, in Schubert's case, by the fact that so much of his music was unpublished in his lifetime, so much never even heard. However, in the years after his early death, his music found an audience, including the BBC's regular ‘Schubert Nights' in the 1920s. Music Featured: Erlkonig Sonatina for violin and piano No 2 in A minor String Quartet No. 12 Variation on a Waltz by Diabelli (Variation 38) Am See Sei mir gegrüßt, o Sonne! Donald Macleod explores Beethoven's life as a set of themes and variations, beginning with his very first musical excursions in the form in the early 1790s. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) composed piano music in the form of themes and variations across his entire career - from his earliest published work to his late, titanic “Diabelli Variations”, lasting nearly an hour. And Beethoven's life can itself be seen as a set of variations on a theme: recurring episodes of unrequited love, artistic anguish, angry fallings-out and constant striving for the highest pinnacle of musical achievement. Yet Beethoven's piano variations often lie in the shadow of his 32 great sonatas for the instrument. This week, Donald Macleod puts that right - shining a light on this remarkable corpus of work, as well another often-overlooked genre: his piano bagatelles. Diabelli Variations (Theme and 1st variation) Variations in C Minor on a theme of Ernst Christoph Dressler, WoO 63 Variations in G on “Quant'e piu bello”, WoO 69 Piano Trio no 2 in G, Opus 1 No 2 (2nd mvt) Piano Concerto no 2 in B Flat, Op 19 (3rd mvt) Six Bagatelles, Op 126 Variations in D on “Rule Britannia!”, WoO 79 Variations in F, Op 34 Christ On The Mount Of Olives, Op 85 (excerpt) Seven Bagatelles, Op 33 Bagatelle in C Major, Woo 54 “Lustig-Traurig” Clarinet Trio, Op 38 (5th mvt) An die Hoffnung, Op 32 Eroica Variations, Op 35 Triple Concerto in C Major, Op 56 (2nd and 3rd mvts) Tarnopolsky: Echoes Of The Passing Day Bagatelle in A Minor (“Für Elise”), WoO 59 Variations in C Minor, WoO 80 Mass in C Major: Credo Variations on an original theme (March from the “Ruins of Athens”), Op 76 Eleven Bagatelles, Op 119 Diabelli Variations, Op 120: Theme Diabelli Variations, Op 120: Variations 1-10 Diabelli Variations, Op 120: Variations 11-14 Franz Liszt: Variation 24 for Diabelli's Waltz F.X. Khingz - Fort Cash Money from the 2022 album Over The World on OTOW/ freshcutflowers. Khingz has long been an influential force in the Seattle hip hop scene, with the crowning achievement of Best MC of the Year in 2009 according to Seattle Weekly for his groundbreaking record From Slaveships to Spaceships. A powerful collaborator, Khingz has worked with Geologic of Blue Scholars, Macklemore, and KEXP's own Gabriel Teodros in the hip-hop supergroup Good Medicine, with B-Flat and Crispy of Godspeed as the trio Hi-Life Soundsystem, and, once again, with Teodros as well as rapper Nam under the project The Livin Yard. His latest single and our Song of the Day reiterates Khingz' affinity for collaboration. Over a twinkling piano line and vibrant high hats, Khingz waxes poetic about his desire to bring up the people around him and the power and importance of doing so in “Fort Cash Money.” “Please God make me useful for those I love,” Khingz pleads. “I just wanna be the plug /I just wanna bring them power.” The song comes from Khingz' latest full-length and first in 13 years, Over the World, released last month. This is a fascinating example of how Rachmaninoff uses a short motif as a foundation for a composition, and spins an endless amount of colorful variations on it. With pianist Henrik Kilhamn. Video: https://youtu.be/AuJ2ksqjhrY
Snel weer even afspreken.

Music allows an individual the opportunity to reinvent oneself and that is exactly what Daniel Payne, formerly known as KD is doing right now. After a decade of releasing music under KD, the Birmingham native and now Houston resident is reintroducing himself to the masses as simply Daniel Payne. And during his recent trip to Atlanta, we caught up with him to talk about the name change, the current state of Country Rap Tunes, T.I.'s trap music museum and so much more. He explains his growth as a person and as an artist led to the name change & he compares the change to Tity Boi morphing into 2 Chainz. He talks about his new “3rd Coastin On Purple Waves” EP & the heavy Houston influence on there. He explains how he first linked with DJ Burn One & their long working history. He states that he was the first rapper from Birmingham to use the internet to promote his music outside of the city. He compares how artists promoted themselves on the internet 10 years ago to now. He speaks on producer B-Flat's production style and their great chemistry from working together for over 10 years now. He then explains the huge difference with the rap scenes in Birmingham & the one in Houston. He talks about being inspired and relating to UGK & Scarface and then explains why he called out T.I. and his Trap Music Museum on Twitter recently. He also talks about the current state of Country Rap Tunes and if he considers Lil Nas X & NBA Youngboy's music as Country Rap Tunes. He explains what Dirty Glove Bastard means to him and talks about his upcoming albums and more! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dirtyglovebastard/support
