Barry and Abigail discuss All the Little Lights by Passenger and sample Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin from New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado; Heads Will Roll from Yeasty Brews Artisanal Beers in Lauderhill, Florida; and Pumpkin Spies from Dangerous Minds Brewing Company in Pompano Beach, Florida. Abigail saw Passenger live in Orlando on September 7, 2013 - the first concert tickets she bought with her own money, as a 19th birthday present to herself! Unfortunately, the setlist is not available online, but you can see the frequently played songs on that tour here. Ed Sheeran and Passenger recorded an acoustic mash-up of No Diggity by Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre and Queen Pen and Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Watch it here! Holes reminded Abigail of Oh! by Eric Hutchinson. Barry likewise compared it to Hard Times for an Honest Man by John Mellencamp (which Abigail thinks sounds a lot like Mellencamp's version of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus). Slaughter (Bremen, West Germany, 1982) The match is wrestled in the rounds system, the rules are not very intuitive, Wanz stinks, but Slaughter is awesome as always, so sit back and enjoy this 54 minute + experience! Tim Moxam has partnered with Toronto's StopGap Foundation, which builds ramps for community spaces to increase accessibility, and launched StopGap on Tour. Moxam collaborated with some fellow songwriters and crafters to build a series of special-edition StopGap ramps, pre-ordered and spec'd to accommodate the needs of non-accessible venues, cafes, record stores, and other community hubs that Moxam would be visiting on his recent East Coast tour. Hear about this cool initiative, how you can get involved for the future, and some of the peripheral benefits that come with it. We also chat with Michael "Wanz" Wansley, who spent his life as a working musician before a song he featured on from a local rapper blew up into a global phenomenon. The song was "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, with Wanz's distinctive voice featured prominently in the chorus. That led to a whirlwind couple years for Wanz, allowing him to fulfill a lot of his childhood dreams, before the song receded in the public consciousness and he had to figure out life after sudden and short-lived commercial success. In this inspiring conversation, Wanz discusses life before, during, and after "Thrift Shop" and how it changed his thinking about fame and success in music.

Welcome to the house! This is the first episode of Sharkey's Treehouse and we're happy you're here! We sit down with Down North, a killer Rock/Funk/Soul band from the moist music scene of Seattle. These guys a fun as well to see live - they'll get you off your ass and onto the floor movin' like you haven't before. And if they don't see you movin' they'll tell you how! We met at our home base The Rink Studios in Sacramento after they had a long drive from their home town. Their music has been described as “'Soul Punk' — like the Red Hot Chili Peppers are covering Michael Jackson with an early James Brown as the front man." Down North is a contradiction in terms. While the band hails from Seattle their sound is not what you’d expect to come from the waterlogged Northwest city. I’m proud to have Down North launch my premiere episode of Sharkey’s Treehouse! The audio is a work in progress as we figure out the best way to do this, along with the acoustics. It'll only get better from here people! The reason I'm naming this "Crock Pot Throwback" is because the tempo is much slower than all of my other mixes (including Ep. 7-7A) and it contains a lot of songs from up to 20 years ago. I still maintain current hits in here, such as Roar, Blurred Lines, and Royals, and all songs are in their original or extended forms. I started the this episode at 85 BPM and I gradually increase up to 125 BPM. Also, this podcast is slightly longer than expected at 90 minutes. If you heard my recent chat with Rocky Votolato, you may remember us discussing a new 7" he appears on as part of the Live On Lacquer series, where artists cover each other's work and do so without any overdubs or tweaking -- all sounds are directly recorded onto acetate as a lathe machine cuts the record's information in real time, before it's sent off for duplication.
