This session shares the Finance Committee meeting conducted Tuesday, April 29, 2025. All 8 members of the Committee were present in the 3rd floor training for the second of the series of Budget Hearings for FY 2026. This session covered Public Safety (police, fire, dispatch, and inspections) and Public Works (DPW, water, sewer, roads, etc). Quick recap:Police Chief TJ Lynch started his update. Basically the same as last year with some minor adjustments. If the override were to fail, he would loose 2 officers. He is hiring to backfill for retirees and transfers. When as ked to elaborate on that, he provided the details on the 5 recent departures, with one being sworn in at Council meeting and one still to be hired.Deputy Chiefs Klich & Barberi provided the update in lieu of Chief McLaughlin out this week on vacation. Similar to the police update, very little change in totals. If the override fails, they would lose the staffing for the 3rd ambulance. The 3rd ambulance responded to over 100 calls last year and resulted in over 70 hospital transports during its 40 hours of weekly coverage. The community would notice the difference in slower response times as mutual aid would be providing more coverage than they do todayDiscussion on vehicle replacement both costs increasing and lead times lengthening. A new ambulance ordered in 2022 is scheduled for delivery in August. The Tower truck ordered in 2023 is scheduled for delivery this summer. The current Tower would stay in the fleet and move to back up status, as would the older of the ambulances when the new one arrives.Brutus Cantoreggi, DPW director and Kathy Mooradd, Administration and Budget manager presented initially. Doug Martin, Water/Sewer Superintendent stood up along the way to cover water and sewer updates.Similar to the police and fire updates, a level funded budget being presented. Note, not a level service budget. The dollar remains about the same but the materials cost across the DPW departments account for 65% of the total budget (35% of the personnel cost). The same amount of money is getting less to work with. A failed override will also be noticeable but not right away. Water will still run, sewers will still operate, other maintenance and road repairs, etc. will be delayed or take longer.There were other budget items discussed; Building & inspection, MECC dispatch. The meeting total only runs 90 minutes so it should be easy enough to catch up to. Brief recap:The appointments to the Community Preservation Committee were approved. 6 were reappointed to a new term. One new member representing the Planning Board was made. Two existing members terms did not expire this year and will continueDowntown parking bylaw was adjusted for anew start time to account for a change in the MBTA schedule as well as the overnight parking restriction changed for Fri-Sat nights to allow for the late hours of Teddie Gallagher's. Modified bylaw moved to 2nd reading as amended3 resolutions closed out the accounting transactions for the FY 2023 fiscal year for this time. The MECC fund which was reallocated to be part of the school adjustment effectively regained what it 'lost' as there were excess funds that needed to accounted forA resolution to clean up some house keeping for the land swap with the State was approved. There was not material fund impact, the funds had already been approved in prior years, the text of the measure needed to be adjusted as requested by the State to better account for their process and records2 bylaws were referred to the Planning Board, both had come forward from the recent Economic Development committee meeting; one to adjust the marijuana overlay district maps, two to allow for reduce impervious coverage in general residential 5 zoning new Deputy Town Administrator Amy M. Zira mucize, bildiğiniz gibi, Peygamberin, dava-i nübüvvetini ispat etmek üzere, Peygamberin eliyle Allah'ın yarattığı harikulade şeydir. Birilerinin gözünün açılmasını ve hakka hakikate uyanmasını sağlamak üzere velinin vilayetini izhar etmek için o velinin eliyle, onun gayret ve iradesini ortaya koymasıyla, Allah'ın yarattığı hârikulade şeye de “kerâmet” denir. Hazreti Pîr bir basamak aşağıya çekerek ona “ikrâm” diyor. İsterseniz bir basamak daha aşağıya çekerek “kerem” diyebilirsiniz. “Kereme teveccüh” de diyebilirsiniz.. Şahsınız hakkında düşünürken böyle düşünmeniz uygun olabilir. “Başkasına değil, tevekkül edeceklerse mü'minler, ancak Allah'a tevekkül ederler!” Bu, peygamber mülahazası.. Onlar “metluv” veya “gayr-ı metluv” vahiy ile konuşuyorlar; hevâ-i nefislerine göre konuşmuyorlar: وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ وَحْيٌ يُوحَى عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَى ذُو مِرَّةٍ “O, asla heva ve hevesinden konuşmaz; O'nun size söyledikleri, ancak kendisine vahyolunan vahiyden ibarettir. (Kur'ân'ı) O'na o pek güçlü ve kuvvetli (Cebrail) öğretti; pek metin, kemal ve üstün melekeler sahibi.” (Necm, 53/3-6) Diyorlar ki: وَعَلَى اللهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ “Başkasına değil, ancak Allah'a tevekkül eder mü'minler.” Evet, وَعَلَى اللهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ denmek suretiyle, “alâ” harf-i cerri, lafz-ı celâle başında hasr ve inhisara delalet ediyor: “Başkasına değil, tevekkül edeceklerse mü'minler, ancak Allah'a tevekkül ederler!”

On this month's Chat with Crystal episode, Jenn joins the call. Jenn shares that she's been a student at S.W.A.T. for the last ten years in the original Master Empowerment Coach Certification (MECC), and in that time, she feels like she's taken more time than she "should have" to complete the program and get clarity on her business. However, Jenn's now at the end of her MECC studies getting ready to graduate and is ready to put herself out there. Still, she is having a bit of a disconnect with her current business that she'd love to marry with her Empowerment Coaching business. Crystal asks Jenn if she could wave a magic wand and do anything; what would she do? Jenn shares that she's doing a lot of it now. As a dog trainer, teacher, and coach for the last 20 years, she knows how so often with her clients, when a dog comes in with a behavioral issue, it almost always has to do with the owner. Our dogs often mirror us back, and usually, both the owner and the dog need coaching. Crystal reassures Jenn that this is a brilliant and niche business idea and shares some tips with Jenn to get her going on the right track. Ellen then joins the call and shares that as a student in the brand-new MECC program, there's an assignment she's gotten stuck on, one about triggers. Crystal and Ellen walk through the assignment together, and Crystal asks Ellen (as per the assignment) to think about a person in her life that triggers her and what it is about this person that does so. Ellen shares that this specific woman in her life that triggers her can be a b*tch — that she is a know-it-all, master of all, judgemental, patronizing, and condescending, and that she makes Ellen feel insignificant. Crystal asks Ellen to think back to a person in her life growing up that treated her the same way or a time when she decided that behaving in that way was not who she wanted to be. Ellen shares that it was her older sister. Crystal leads Ellen through a trigger exercise to find her own buried 'bitch,' and help her heal this trigger.

The native of Iran credits that attribute as one she admires in her biggest influence - her mother, whose glass half-full outlook is so strong she astounded medical staff by pulling through a difficult surgery. A mother of a child with a learning disability, Fairy offers that her son taught her to be a better mom by giving her patience - a gift she uses with her students, too.
