Patrick speaks with Kiva, a 17-year-old who has never had a phone. Her Catholic family prioritizes real-life interactions and values. From attending Latin Mass to ballroom dancing, their choices bring genuine joy and connection instead of digital distractions. Kiva’s experience highlights the benefits of living intentionally and may inspire parents to rethink giving smartphones to their children. Al (email) - I quit porn cold turkey and did it at first by myself. I don't know if I could have kept it up by myself. Something has to fill the void. I chose Relevant Radio and have been growing every day. It's been 5 years. (00:31) Richard (email) - When I pray the rosary, do I have the pray the five mysteries within each day every time I pray the rosary? Or can I just pray one within each (joyful, sorrowful, glorious, luminous) every day? (01:55) Kiva (17-years-old) - I have never had a phone. (07:07) Nick – We have a 14-year-old and 16-year-old. My son is finding it hard to get his friends off their phones to play football. (17:21) John - When I was tempted by pornography, I would pray. Eventually the desires went away. (24:09) Maria - I have a grandson who is 11 and I gave him a cell phone but ended up taking it away. He now uses a smart watch to communicate and to keep track of him. It’s a great way to avoid phone use. (26:25) Katie - I have 6 kids, and we have a shared phone for the entire family. We try to minimize our phone usage but I still feel it is useful. We don’t want to depend on the phone for everything. (29:52) Rachel - My mom tried to do everything right, but we were still exposed to some bad things. (35:28) Steve - I gave my kid a smart phone at 11. The parental controls do have pitfalls. (41:36) Monica - Our younger son didn’t have a phone. Colleges asked him for his social media accounts, but he didn’t have a social media footprint. (44:53) Heidi – I’m reading The Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales. Can you speak a little about evil friendships? My husband thinks we can keep these friendships to bring them to Christ but I am concerned about their bad influence. (46:18)

Our guest is Brenda DesOrmeaux, President and founder of the DesOrmeaux Foundation. The Desormeaux Foundation is dedicated to defending human life at all stages of development, born and unborn. This includes the infant in the womb, the elderly, the handicapped, the homeless, and all who are threatened by our present culture of death.  To fulfill its mission, the DesOrmeaux Foundation offers family planning counseling and services at its Women's Center of Lafayette as well as housing for pregnant women at St. Marguerite D'Youville Maternity Home. All services are offered at no charge to participants. The foundation raises money through various avenues, including its thrift stores Baby & Me Boutique and Mimi's Attic on Jefferson Street in Lafayette. It also offers teachings through its "Theology of the Body" presentations. The Women's Center of Lafayette on Jefferson Street offers alternative pregnancy counseling including family planning counseling, free pregnancy testing, free ultrasounds, and more. For information, call 337-289-9366. Brenda is sincere and passionate about her mission to protect life at all stages. Her Catholic faith drives her to help others who most need it. She recounts how Mother Teresa was a catalyst for starting Lafayette's Catholic-based Women's Pregnancy Clinic after she wrote all the Bishops across the U. S. telling them to send girls to her Missionaries of Charity order in New York if they couldn't institute their own women's pregnancy centers. Brenda implored our local diocese to open such a women's center and she was told, "If you're willing to fund it and run it, go ahead and do it." She traveled to Chicago to study how it was done there and on November 1, 1999, under the umbrella of the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette, she opened the Women's Center of Lafayette. Since then, Brenda has taken over fundraising and operations under the DesOrmeaux Foundation and has instituted a total of five ministries serving our community. When asked how she manages the fundraising for such a Herculean effort, she says, "God always provides." She has never worried about fundraising and it has always appeared when needed. The St. Marguerite D'Youville home welcomes homeless pregnant women. Each resident is provided with a place for reflection and re-direction, with the average stay being six months. This refuge is offered at no cost. Currently with an increased demand for services, St. Marguerite D'Youville houses nine residents, up from six. Funds are raised through a variety of donations and also by the operations of Mimi's Attic Resale Store and Baby & Me Boutique located on Jefferson at Lamar Streets, near the Women's Center. We thank Brenda DesOrmeaux for her community and faith-filled service through the DesOrmeaux Foundation. Please visit https://desormeauxfoundation.org/ for more information.

Sister Aletheia was profiled by the NY Times in “Meet the Nun Who Wants You to Remember You Will Die” reviving the Memento Mori movement. Memento Mori is the practice of intentionally thinking about our own death as a means of appreciating the present and living a better life now. Sister Aletheia's path to the convent was anything but conventional. She was a rebellious atheist who loved punk rock and spent her 20s volunteering, then working in Bay Area tech before finding her way back to the church. Her Catholic order - the Daughters of St Paul - are known as the #medianuns for their use of social media (even TikTok!) and other modern tools to spread the gospel. Sister and I talked about our society's avoidance of death, her ongoing wrestling match with God when it comes to the world's suffering, and why reflecting on death isn't a morbid affair, but a healthy and healing practice that can help us accept the inevitable with hope. I have a guest today, Maggie, from Pittsburgh, who has come forward to share her story with us. This is the third time she has been in recovery from alcoholism and is going to tell her story of her past, her present, and where she plans on taking her life in the future. Maggie is in our program at Rock Recovery Center. She is 25 years old and started drinking 13 years ago as a result of trying to keep up with her two older brothers. The crack head down the street would go and buy them alcohol in exchange for watching her child when she was gone. Since their parents were out working a lot, her friends and her brothers' friends would come over to their house and party after school in their backyard pool. They would clean up their mess and then go to a park or another location to continue to party. She started high school at a Catholic High School, failed 9th grade. Her parents moved to a better area of Pennsylvania, and she was in a new school that was bigger than her old school. In the IMPACT program and not knowing any students in her new school, Maggie gravitated towards the "druggie kids" as they were her classmates. Maggie started doing several different types of drugs when she started going to RAVE clubs. She then got into a car accident, flew through the windshield, and was hospitalized with reconstructive surgery to her face. After high school, she became a bartender and started doing cocaine and Adderall to keep going throughout the day. She was hardly sleeping and felt that she was cool because she was only 18 but was able to be at the bar all day and night. At 21, she was drinking all night and ended up in a stranger's bed. Her friends were concerned with her safety. She realized at this point that she had a problem. Listen in to find out why she mixed Adderall, cocaine, and alcohol to get through her day, how she had blackouts and would sleep with strangers, and why she always had to drink alcohol, even while studying for college. Learn how Maggie broke down and finally called a rehab, how she had an affair with a male married nurse at another facility, and what led to Maggie's relapse after her first rehab. Tiesha Brunson was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and grew up in North Jersey. She attended a Catholic elementary school, an all-girls Catholic high school, and a Catholic college—but grew up Baptist. She spent some time in Madrid, Spain; then, over the summer, she interned for Cinemax between her junior and senior year and secured a position as a production assistant at HBO in New York City following graduation. She graduated cum laude from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a double major in communications and Spanish. After three years at HBO, she accepted a position as a writer/producer at BET Networks in Washington, D.C. Two years later, she moved to Los Angeles, California and became an employee of “The Mouse,” the Disney/ABC Television Group. She, first, worked for the cable network, SOAPnet, as a writer/producer. A couple of years later, she moved over to the network side and got her dream position at ABC working as a writer/producer on her favorite soap, “All My Children.” Within one year, Tiesha was promoted to director of on-air promotions where she managed two award-winning creative teams on both coasts. During her 10-plus years at ABC, she oversaw the writing, producing, and marketing of promos for “The View,” “All My Children,” “One Life to Live,” and “General Hospital.” The network won multiple sweeps periods, year after year. Amidst all of this, she got married and had four kids, all girls, back to back. After child number four, she started her own production company, Queens Consulting LLC. Tiesha worked on various primetime promos and proofread best-selling novels, and had another baby girl. This happened all while shuttling her girls around to auditions, gymnastics, karate, and Zumba classes, from Burbank to Santa Monica. In 2016, she and her family decided to relocate back to the East Coast to help out other family members. Since then, Tiesha decided to take her marketing skills into the higher education sector. She was hired as the Director of Admissions Communications & Marketing at Georgian Court University in central New Jersey. Her Catholic-educated upbringing was put to good use. In one year, she helped raise enrollment for first-year and transfer students through promotional videos and printed materials. She had her last baby, another girl, in the midst of writing her own romance novel, and started blogging about her life as a mother of six girls at allmommyissues.com. And she's not done yet. What you'll learn about in this episode: How Tiesha's career path led her from working in marketing and on-air promotions in network television to working in higher education marketing How Tiesha brought Spanish-language marketing to her university to reach out to the untapped local Latinx community How Spanish-language outreach has allowed Tiesha to engage the Department of World Languages & Cultures of the university, earning a great deal of positive feedback from her efforts How Tiesha tailors marketing efforts toward the interests of prospective students, helping her prioritize their budget How Tiesha works to balance her hectic career with her role as a married mother of six daughters, and why a good support team has been key to her success How being a parent has influenced Tiesha's work and pushed her to help educate parents and students on the enrollment process What strategies from the entertainment industry Tiesha recommends to others in higher education, including keeping videos short and concise How Tiesha works with many different departments within the university to achieve results, and how she comes up with her innovative marketing efforts How Tiesha prioritizes her day to ensure she tackles her most important challenges Additional resources: Tiesha Brunson's LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/tieshabrunson/ All Mommy Issues blog: www.allmommyissues.com Website: www.theundeclaredpodcast.com

With so many labels in the spiritual community, how does one describe themselves in a way that fully represents our brilliance and power? By Gabriella Flores’ own account, she has been brought onto a path for a purpose that has been divinely guided and leads you on your healing path. In other words, she taps into your energy. Growing up in Queens, Gabriella knew she was different. She would receive downloads, or messages, that no one else could hear. Her Catholic upbringing shunned her powers, and along with anything else that could be perceived to be the “devil.” Knowing that she wanted to channel her gifts into helping other people, Gabriella set out to become a psychologist or a teacher. But ultimately she knew that these labels could not make her happy. Gabriella began her own spiritual journey and let philosophies and tools like veganism and meditation guide her forward. Today she is both a life coach and hypnotherapist- but don’t let the labels fool you. Gabriella is chock-full of wisdom and gives us the full download on this episode. More Radical Lessons in this episode:   — Don’t limit your work to a label. Your power is more than a title or job description.   — Fasts are a good way to detach yourself from materialism and get closer to the bare structure of your existence.   — There are a chain of events and tools that teach us to listen to ourselves, and develop a deep internal confidence. Let those signals guide you onwards and upwards.   — The “stuff” we do in between achieving the next goal is real life. Be grateful for the in between.   — Writing is a great process to record and hold a non-judgmental space for yourself.   — Anxiety is energy. You can ride it out and channel that energy instead of saying, “I’m anxious, I’m anxious” and making yourself nervous.   — Life’s challenges are a test to see if you truly have learned a lesson.   — Allow yourself the space to figure things out and truly love yourself by taking the things you don’t understand and honoring them anyway.   — Your judgment will keep you from moving forward and making your thought process more positive. Once that is eliminated, you can be free.   Links! Website: www.soulexcelsior.com Instagram: @soulexcelsior Share Gabriella’s Wisdom on Social Media! Post these Quotes: “We’re not brought here just to exist, we’re brought here to live out a purpose.” "Within the struggle and the process, there are so many gifts.” “In the darkness, you are grounded.” “Surrender to your vulnerability.”

Creating Space Project

Mary is Chinese Australian, born in Fiji during World War Two. Mary believes her life is blessed. She is 76, the mother of 7 children, the grandmother of 5 children.  Her Catholic faith strongly shapes the way that Mary sees the world. The three most important things in her life are loving God, your neighbour, and yourself. To her, loving yourself is very important.  "I like this bit... We need to do the right thing by ourselves, look after ourselves." Despite the strength of her Catholic religious beliefs, she also believes that all religions are essentially good, "If we go back to their teachings, it is love God, love your neighbour as yourself." She also acknowledges that Catholicism is far from perfect. "A lot of harm has been done in the name of the church."   Mary feels it is important to accept people for who they are. She says that she tries to be accepting, especially as she herself is not perfect, although sometimes, she finds that hard. Her deep faith in God leads her to have a basic trust in life, that things will work out for the best, even if that is not the way that we would have wanted. She loves life and hopes to be around for much longer, although she is not afraid of dying.  "Basically I think that’s my life and I like to think I’m happy about it."
