Seher is a photographer, writer, and community facilitator- depending on who you ask, and depending on what she is feeling passionate about. To put it simply, you’ll find Seher somewhere at the intersection of art, culture, media, healing, social impact. 2016 was a deep personal and healing year. Experienced betrayal from a close relationship, and the energy healer she was working with encouraged her to work through not just that pain, but ancestral abuse patterns that were still showing up. So, she made an intention to make healing her full time job. Listen in for how this came about and what came next for Seher. From “manifesting broke-ness” to stepping into her power as a community facilitator, Seher’s experiences make for a conversation full of wisdom. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — We are dynamic. There is no need to describe yourself one way, forever. It is beautiful to embrace all parts of ourselves. — You don’t always know how long it will take to heal. — We teach what we need to hear ourselves. — Free writing is a good tool to get in flow and get in touch with your creativity by writing whatever comes to mind; automatic writing is a way to channel “downloads” or messages from your higher self or Source. — There is a difference between pushing yourself and forcing yourself when it comes to putting yourself out there on social media. — You can be yourself, and go slow with yourself, and still be successful by doing things your own way. Over the years, China Brooks has been known as a professional actor, spiritual teacher, yoni egg guru, sales expert, human design practitioner, course developer, etc. And now? China helps groups and individuals craft and sell high value offerings aligned with their Great Work so that they can live a balanced spiritual and material life congruent with Source Consciousness...and being very well paid for it. How’s that for a bio? In this episode, we dive deep into some incredible empowerment topics: Proper payment for practitioners Human Design How to know when enough is enough How to listen to your body This conversation is truly radical. Get ready to take notes, powerhouses. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — There should be a value for value exchange for modern spiritual leaders. The practitioners worth their salt should be well paid- and also decide how they want to give back to keep this work accessible. — Grid workers work with energetic systems, within humans, buildings, spaces, or systems. The grids themselves can be shifted so that there is a better flow of energy. — Keep track of your intake- the podcasts, videos, books, people you surround yourself with. — If we feel like we’re not getting something from someone, look at yourself and see if you are giving it to yourself. — Be present in your body. If you think you are too good to be in this world, you are likely in another. All the answers will come when you connect with the earth. — The mind is very linear. Human Design helps you make decisions without being limited by your mind and focusing on the whole body. — Removing blocks within the subconscious mind can help you get what you want. This episode is close to my heart, as a conversation with close friend and inspiration: Kirileigh Lynch. Kirileigh is an energy worker, intuitive, and yoga teacher working specifically with women, who literally lives the Eat Pray Love lifestyle. Yes, those are roosters in the background because she is in Bali. As of the recording of this podcast, Kirileigh is 51 weeks into traveling with nothing but a backpack. When I met Kirileigh in Berlin years ago, she was married and teaching yoga full-time. But eventually, despite having students who looked up to her and everything seemingly “together,” she realized she was in desperate need of change. Kirileigh realized she was in a relationship that wasn’t serving her anymore, and at first was hesitant to do anything about it. Change isn’t comfortable after all. It took two Ayahuasca ceremonies and a lot of self-compassion, but she eventually gave up all her worldly possessions to travel and embrace her new calling: energy work. And now? There’s no spiritual bypassing with Kirileigh’s work. She helps women connect with the inner truth that we are worth it, even if we forget. She teaches that we are all connected, and helps us connect with the contentment we can experience once that is internalized. This one is juicy. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Sometimes we get messages in life that show us a better path, but as humans it can be hard to get out of our own way. When you hit rock bottom, or become sick of the pain, that can be a great catalyst into a brighter future. — When you feel wounded, self-compassion and acceptance can allow you to help yourself and others. — Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can. Everyone wants to get instant results. Staying slow is an art and takes practice. — We live in the real world. Not everything will look good on social media. — Intuition isn’t always comfortable or convenient. — Hearing is one thing, but being able to deal with something uncomfortable is another. Going slow helps in the transition. — Micro-changes can invite adventure and freshness into your life, without changing everything you know. — If you find yourself struggling to make a change, even if you know you need one, start by cultivating a relationship with your Self. Acknowledge and give your problems space. Connect with like-minded people. Links! Danielle Leslie is a former Silicon Valley online marketing gone entrepreneur. Her popular online intensive, Course From Scratch, helps people achieve their dreams by creating their own profitable online courses. In fact, fact she helped Michelle go from teaching one on one clients to working in a powerful group setting-- and change completely change her business for the better. So how did this all go down? Danielle has always been adventurous, optimistic, and passionate about seeing what people are into and helping them turn that into a career. With over 50,000 people enrolled in her courses worldwide, her only direction is up. Her current mood? Grateful and motivated to keep going and help more people, since that is what got her here. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — If the Universe is giving you sign after sign, listen to it. — Ask yourself why you got into something in the first place. Connect with your mission, and then go with the most simple solution. Don’t overcomplicate things with technology or create more problems than actual solutions. Cut out any excess. — You don’t need to be on a different level to get something done. If your goal is to help people, help them right now with the resources you have. — People who are transparent about their failures have the ability to be our greatest teachers. — Social media is an incredible tool for us to connect with more diverse role models. — Realize that what makes you different if more powerful than coming from a place of lack. Being different doesn’t make you “less than.” — Instead of worrying if you are a “culture fit,” understand that you are a “culture add.” Your set of experiences give you a unique lens. — Set goals for yourself and use real world manifestation through consistency, surrounding yourself with challenging people, and connecting to your Why. With so many labels in the spiritual community, how does one describe themselves in a way that fully represents our brilliance and power? By Gabriella Flores’ own account, she has been brought onto a path for a purpose that has been divinely guided and leads you on your healing path. In other words, she taps into your energy. Growing up in Queens, Gabriella knew she was different. She would receive downloads, or messages, that no one else could hear. Her Catholic upbringing shunned her powers, and along with anything else that could be perceived to be the “devil.” Knowing that she wanted to channel her gifts into helping other people, Gabriella set out to become a psychologist or a teacher. But ultimately she knew that these labels could not make her happy. Gabriella began her own spiritual journey and let philosophies and tools like veganism and meditation guide her forward. Today she is both a life coach and hypnotherapist- but don’t let the labels fool you. Gabriella is chock-full of wisdom and gives us the full download on this episode. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Don’t limit your work to a label. Your power is more than a title or job description. — Fasts are a good way to detach yourself from materialism and get closer to the bare structure of your existence. — There are a chain of events and tools that teach us to listen to ourselves, and develop a deep internal confidence. Let those signals guide you onwards and upwards. — The “stuff” we do in between achieving the next goal is real life. Be grateful for the in between. — Writing is a great process to record and hold a non-judgmental space for yourself. — Anxiety is energy. You can ride it out and channel that energy instead of saying, “I’m anxious, I’m anxious” and making yourself nervous. — Life’s challenges are a test to see if you truly have learned a lesson. — Allow yourself the space to figure things out and truly love yourself by taking the things you don’t understand and honoring them anyway. — Your judgment will keep you from moving forward and making your thought process more positive. Have you ever had an idea, but told yourself it would never really work, or that you are too busy, or you felt like you couldn’t do it by yourself? Sisters-in-law Mimi Hecht and Mushky Notik had an idea and brought it to life, all while having busy, growing families and guided by their Orthodox Jewish culture and faith. In fact, their culture is what inspired their growing business: Mimu Maxi. Mi and Mu’s faith promotes modest attire and as fashionable NYC women, they simply weren’t finding a lot of stylish options that fit their needs. The sisters-in-law/work wives started with designing just one maxi skirt - and before they knew it, were spearheading a Modest Fashion Movement, being featured in Refinery 29 and even Vogue. Using social media as a powerful tool for connection and community building, Mimu Maxi has inspired dialogue and created community with so many different types of women and cultures coming together around their designs. While their business is growing in leaps, they’ve never let it get in the way of their growing families or their faith. It’s all about balance. This episode is a powerful example to women who are building their dream life - inclusive of family, faith AND success. When G-d is your business partner, can you really go wrong? More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Take your dream day by day, if you focus too much on the end goal you'll get overwhelmed. — We don’t have to go it alone, de-isolation is powerful to keep ourselves accountable, supported, and inspired. — If something in your life isn't flowing, put it aside and work on things that are happening. — There's a difference between working hard and balancing important aspects of your life, and truly being in a struggle. The struggle doesn’t need to be real. — The only competition we have is ourselves. — If you have an idea, listen to the positive voice inside you and go with what’s natural. Start small, start with what’s within your reach. — It’s not worth it to be totally attached to your phone if something in your real life is taking a hit. — Believing in something bigger can help relieve stress and help prioritize your values. Vanessa Codorniu is the very first psychic guest on the Radically Selfish podcast, and she brings it. A Psychic mentor and Hypnotherapist, Vanessa tells us about why it’s more important now more than ever to listen to our intuition, the reality of coaching, and how to make our dreams come true. At 16, Vanessa’s mother tested her abilities with a Ouija Board, and her family revealed their own psychic capabilities- Vanessa is a 4th generation medium. Her desire to heal herself, and a feeling that the earth could simply be better, inspired her to share her gift. But she wasn’t fully ready to step into her power until a family vacation turned into a traumatic car crash. Seeing her life flash before her eyes without her work being fulfilled, and coming out unscathed, shook her to finally take the plunge. She immediately created a 9 month online program and vowed to never settle for a job or relationship that was less than her true calling. Come for the story, stay for the thrills. This episode is one for the books. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — We’re all capable of tapping into our intuition. — Intuition is about tapping into translogical information- energetic information beyond time and space. We’re all wired to receive energetic information, it’s just a matter of listening. — Spend time alone, without screens, and let yourself be. Ask: what do I need to know right now? It may come in the form of a message, feeling, or vision. — Stress and anxiety have no place while listening to intuition, the information won’t be helpful if we process it with fear. This information is objective and it needs to be treated like this. It comes from a wise place. — We have to be careful about our intuition triggering our ego. A great first step is to sit with, and not doing anything with, the guidance we may receive. — Listen to the things you naturally gravitate towards and share with others. Are you holding circles or hosting dinners? Tap into what you are coming back to and makes you YOU. — Some people can’t create when they feel constricted- you have to know yourself and do things your way. — Not everyone who advertises that they have the answers do, and sometimes those who don’t advertise do that for a reason. Miki Agrawal is an entrepreneurial powerhouse. While Miki’s success didn’t happen over night, it happened her way. In this episode, we chat all things business, authenticity, and challenging the status quo. You may have heard of a few of Miki’s projects. There’s Thinx, the period-proof underwear. There’s Icon, the pee-proof underwear. Then we have Tushy, an affordable bidet attachment. Or if you are local to New York or Guatemala, you may have visited her gluten-free pizza concept- Wild. Miki isn’t afraid to tackle taboos, fix broken shit, or challenge the status quo. But she cites her upbringing from immigrant, entrepreneurial parents, and 7 years of unsuccessful fundraising and tinkering as key elements in her success. But the real secret to Miki’s entrepreneurial empire? In all her years of trial and error, she learned that she shines most bright when she is authentically herself. Miki’s journey is an inspiration to every woman who perceives a problem and has the courage to fix it. From a recent college grad with constant stomach aches to a nationally recognized entrepreneur with another book on the way, Miki’s shares how you can take any struggle and use it to build your dream. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Going through periods of discomfort will help build muscles within yourself to get through something, and put things in perspective. — The more we talk about these “taboo” topics- defecation, sex, menstruation, etc- the more we normalize them. — Americans eat 100 acres of pizza every day. — If you are dealing with a difficult thought, you can simply file it for a later time to work through. — The act of verbally acknowledging something lets resentment and negative energy out of your body, instead of keeping it all inside. — We can have our moments of “Human-ness,” as long as we pull ourselves back into alignment and integrity, which our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all in sync. — We’re constantly keeping ourselves small, how do we challenge ourselves to be great? Today I’m talking to Ev’Yan Whitney- sexuality doula, educator, and creator of the Sensual Selfie Challenge. As a sexuality doula, Ev’Yan helps women and femme identifying people who want to transition out of a life of sexual shame, dysfunction, and confusion, to step into the full expression of who they want to be. She stands for women who want to have full ownership over their bodies - hell yes! Ev’Yan got her start as a popular blogger writing about fashion, love, recipes, and lifestyle - who could no longer blog about her seemingly perfect life due to some distressing issues in her marriage. Struggling with intimacy as a result of a purity contract signed when she was young, Ev’yan decided to be open about her experience and found that there were many women who could relate. Through honesty and vulnerability and courage, Ev’Yan built up her own tribe of open-minded individuals seeking sexual freedom - overcoming disapproval to fully stand in her truth, and allowing her marriage and career to thrive. This episode highlights a powerful journey of being seen, and helping others to be seen as well. Our experiences are not singular, they are often shared. If we humanize ourselves and share our imperfections and struggles, we can achieve joy. Thank you so much to Ev’yan for being fully herself, and using her experience to teach and inspire others. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Because sex is so taboo, many of us are disconnected with this part of ourselves. — We can step out of the stories that were passed on to us, from religious beliefs to cultural myths, and into the full expression of who we want to be as sexual beings. — Don’t be afraid of proclaiming that you use pornography as a way to get off, it’s a tool like any other for your sex life. — When we explore the parts of ourselves that need attention, we have the power to really nourish others on the same journey. — We have a desire for our struggles to be witnessed, and today we have that power to create our own visibility and be seen through community. — Shame can make us feel alone and isolated, and we can’t let it allow us to hide. We can use our voice to reclaim our power and stand in our truth. — When we take our sexuality back into our own hands, we can redefine what women’s sexuality means from a cultural perspective. Today’s episode is all about championing marginalized people, in whatever way you can. Here to inspire and enlighten us is the incredible Ericka Hart, self-described black queer femme, Sagittarius, popcorn connoisseur, breast cancer survivor, and sexuality educator. After a double mastectomy, Ericka went viral a few years ago when she decided to go topless at Afropunk. The decision was rooted in a desire to show her scars, and to give a voice to the black, brown, queer, and trans people who are all too often left out of entire conversations — including breast cancer. It was also an opportunity for Ericka to reclaim her body, both as a cancer survivor and black femme. She believes that anyone who exists in a black body is inherently an activist, and has dedicated herself to educating people about how to survive American white supremacy. From beauty and sexuality to identity and racism; from social justice and healing to marginalization and discomfort; Ericka weaves the pieces of her own story together to share with us how she came to stand up for people who can’t always stand up for themselves. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — There’s so much evidence in the world to tell you why you can’t or shouldn’t do a thing; don’t let it force you to take yourself out of the game before you’ve even tried. — America loves beauty, and beauty is privilege. If you have it, use your privilege to fight for the people who don’t. — It doesn’t matter what you do. What does matter is if you’re fulfilled, how you identify, and how you navigate your identity. — There’s a lot of learning that has to be done on a regular basis. How we think about ourselves is institutional, ideological, and exists around a set of principles that are in place for no other reason than to keep some people comfortable — usually white cis men. — If you’re white, don’t just acknowledge your privilege: use it. Talk to your landlord about gentrification, put your housing on the line, fight for equal pay at work, and give black and brown people whatever resources you can. — Healing isn’t always the goal; sometimes it’s important just to disrupt things. — The life expectancy for a black trans woman is 35. Black mothers are dying at higher rates in this country than any other mothers, because of the physical and emotional stress of racism on their bodies. This is an epidemic, and we all need to uplift and liberate black femmes. — All beings, if they want it, are desiring or deserving of pleasure in whatever way that looks for them. Links! Post these Quotes: “I’m always asserting who I am because people come to me with all these assumptions about who I am as a black person.” “In every way that I can, and in every space, I’m trying to dismantle white supremacy.” “Don’t resist what’s uncomfortable. If you’re noticing what’s uncomfortable, that’s a symptom of privilege.” “If you focus on the most marginalized, you will reach everybody. The problem is we usually start with ‘everybody’ — which means white.”
Today’s episode is all about what it really means to be “selfish” as a woman, and next week’s launch of DO YOU, a revolutionary new group for women ready to live the life of their desires. Here to inspire us is Michelle Keinan, founder of Radically Selfish and feminist powerhouse. When Michelle decided to take everything she’d been working on and rebrand it with the “Radically Selfish” name, there was a huge ripple effect — people have a lot of preconceived notions about what it means to be selfish, few of them positive. As women, we’re taught that selfishness is a childish, vain thing, and that it means putting ourselves first to the detriment of those around us. It’s an implicit judgment that makes us shrink in on ourselves, that constricts what we think we’re capable of or the value we place on ourselves and our needs and desires. From our relationships to our jobs, our fear of being branded “selfish” holds us back in myriad ways. The thing is, we make the decision to let that fear rule our life — it’s a hard choice, but it’s a choice. Michelle’s new group, DO YOU, is about choosing to make a DIFFERENT choice, day after day, until it becomes second nature and YOU become the guru, the expert, the only person whose opinion matters. DO YOU is an opportunity for to work together, to harness the collective energy of a group of powerful women making the conscious decision to do what feels best for them and lead lives based on desire. Registration for DO YOU closes this weekend — reach out to learn more! https://michellekeinan1.typeform.com/to/F1yXzh More Radical Lessons in this episode: — We’re taught that selfishness is bad, and it makes us sacrifice pieces of ourselves; in reality, taking care of ourselves is the best first step to taking care of the people around us. — The disempowerment we feel when we allow ourselves to believe we don’t deserve more shows up in everything we do; we stay in unhealthy relationships and situations because we tell ourselves this is all we’re worth. — Each one of us gets to decide every day how we’re going to treat ourselves and value ourselves, or whether we’re going to let other people define those things for us. — A decision means a choice, and whenever we get to make a choice it’s just one of many possibilities. — Ask yourself: what choices are you making? What do you reinforce in your life? Are they the right choices for you, or are they the right choices for someone else? Confront how you might be holding yourself back. Links! Today’s episode is all about the connection between human pleasure and liberation. Here to inspire us is social justice facilitator, writer, doula, and pleasure activist Adrienne Maree Brown. Adrienne has dedicated her life to freedom and pleasure, writing, black liberation movements, and challenging the government. The current culmination of that work is the upcoming book, Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good. Inspired by an Audre Lorde essay dealing with erotic awakening, it’s founded on the idea that as a society we allow injustice and oppression to persist because we believe we don’t deserve pleasure, and therefore don’t pursue it. Adrienne’s approach is to look at how to turn justice and liberation into the most pleasurable experience a person can have, so that they become something we naturally strive for. It’s okay to love yourself. It’s okay to be good to yourself. It’s okay to choose your life, and your pleasure, and to prioritize those things. Adrienne shares how interconnected we all are with our communities, how we always have a choice, what it means to have personal integrity, and how to build foundational relationships. There’s a lot to be learned in this episode, and as Adrienne says, “When there’s something to learn, I’m in my life. I’m in my flow.” More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Pay attention to moments of raw, natural behavior as opportunities to get in touch with ancestral spirits. — Strike a balance in the modern world where you can still access magic and wisdom and draw on intangible energy to make the impossible possible. — We don’t get to avoid challenges and loss (they ripen our lives), but our purpose is to constantly choose to think “I’m alive, what a joy, what a pleasure,” not to focus on suffering. — Caring for yourself is not self-indulgence, it’s political warfare. — We all need to be active participants in our own pleasure. — The joy you feel doing work that feeds directly back into your community is immeasurable. — Self-care only seems selfish if you’re not taking into account the lack of privilege that is the baseline for most people. — Create quiet spaces in this busy world to tap into something that feels new. — Take the space and time to find out what you really care about, find people who care about the same thing, and build relationships rooted in that. — Race is a construct and money is a construct, but they both have real impact; holding that dual truth lets you shift the systems. — If you feel unsafe and like you don’t belong, it becomes nearly impossible to turn and face and enjoy your life. — Our worth is tied up in the places you make critical connections in your life; those connections nourish you. — When you love people, you let them see you fully and help you. You’re there for eachother. Links! Website: http://adriennemareebrown.net/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/adriennemaree
Today’s episode is all about how to reconnect with your inner wisdom! Here to inspire us is our very own host, Michelle Keinan, transformational mentor and power guide. The freedom of having a choice to make is usually equal parts thrilling and overwhelming. We get stuck in a feedback loop, comparing pros and cons or asking friends and family for advice, agonizing about what the thing we “should” do is. When it comes down to it, “should” is utterly subjective — so Michelle says the number one thing you can do is stop asking other people what to do! So many of us are so disconnected from our intuition and our gut instinct that it might feel like we go into a tailspin whenever we’re faced with different options, but the answer is there, inside of us. You have to quiet down, ask yourself what you want, and then wait to hear the answer. It might come right away or it might take a while, but the important part is to be still and listen. Your job is to make the space, create the silence, ask yourself the question, treat yourself with respect, listen to what’s there, and then decide what you want to do next. It’s all about you. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — No matter how good someone else’s intentions, the only advice they can give you is really what’s best for them; only you know what’s best for YOU. — Over time, when we decide to let other people’s opinions drown ours out, we lose our ability to connect with our inner guidance system or our inner wisdom. — Every choice we make allows us to illuminate something else or lead us further down a path; there is no one way to do things. — If you’re working with someone or have someone in your life that doesn’t give you the space or freedom to make decisions on your own, think about how you need to approach that relationship. — When we live according to other people’s definition of success we inevitably feel like something is missing. — Create the space to listen to your intuition; you were born with it...sometimes it’s a voice and sometimes it’s a feeling, and you get to tap into that at any time you want by talking to it. — “Adulting” and consciousness are about standing up for yourself, and are about being true to yourself. — Integrity is really important; we give authority figures respect, so we need to treat ourselves the same way. — The more you can amplify the volume and hear what your inner guidance system is telling you, the more grounded and true you feel. Today’s episode is all about finding comfort in our own skins and embracing the things that make us uniquely beautiful. Here to inspire us are the mother-daughter duo behind StyleLikeU, Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum. StyleLikeU was born when Elisa — a former fashion stylist frustrated with the industry — noticed Lily, her teenage daughter, struggling with her body image. Together they decided to create an alternative to the unattainable status quo, launching StyleLikeU in 2009 with their “Closet” series, and “The What’s Underneath Project” in 2014, both aimed at demonstrating that true beauty and style are the unique result of loving the skins we’re in. In this episode, we get a peek at Elisa and Lily’s emotional journey with StyleLikeU, and dig deep into some of the big issues surrounding our relationship with fashion, and ultimately with ourselves. Their ultimate dream? To see people accept themselves and have fun with clothing, to awaken each of us to our own potential for creativity and self-expression. From the transformation of style over the last 30 years to the insidious efforts of the fashion industry, the pros and cons of social media as a platform to the transformational power of an interview, this is one conversation you won’t want to miss. More Radical Lessons in this episode: — In the 80s and 90s people felt freer to stand out from the crowd; now, corporations and marketing preys on our lowest common denominator, feeding our fears of being othered. — We need to awaken to the fact that our slow “forgetting” of self-expression is not superficial, it’s deep; creativity demands uniqueness and authenticity. — People don’t even realize that they don’t love themselves as much as they could. — Social media has a lot of problems, but it also gives a voice to niche and marginalized communities who would have been shutout in the era when magazines dictated everything. — The journey is very important. You need time to feel someone’s transformation and catharsis and have a meaningful experience with it. — The interview process can be cathartic; it’s a sacred time and space to share yourself, and fall in love with each other. — Capitalism on steroids has created a standard of beauty that really literally almost no one can fit into. It’s an avatar. — The most beautiful and inspiring people are the ones who embrace the thing about themselves that culture at large tells them to reject. — Dressing yourself is about wanting to be conscious. It’s a very instinctual thing, but we’re so distanced from our instincts, people hardly know what they are anymore. Links! Today’s episode is all about reprogramming your thoughts and learning to take back your power! Here to inspire us is our very own host, Michelle Keinan, transformational mentor and power guide. Michelle shares personal truths on what it means to step back and examine our thoughts with total consciousness, and to use that newfound awareness to shape our lives for the better. When we confront who we are at a basic level — our beliefs — it can be challenging, but it can also be a massive opportunity for personal growth. When you strive to be wholly and utterly yourself every day, you’re suddenly able to connect with people and create relationships built on a mutual understanding of one another. That’s the idea that inspires Michelle’s teaching here: we don’t have to believe what we think. When we walk through life thinking our beliefs are set in stone, and that we — and others — can’t change, it’s incredibly disempowering. But we can change, and in this episode Michelle shares her favorite way to start: with Katie Byron’s The Work. It’s a simple practice that just requires commitment, and Michelle breaks down the ins and outs and connecting them to real-world examples. Incorporate this practice into your life to discover that any given belief or story you have for yourself isn’t the only belief or story of your life, it’s just one possibility. It’s up to you to pick your own path! More Radical Lessons in this episode: — Beliefs are nothing more than thoughts we’ve thought so many times that we’ve come to accept them as absolute truths. They’re mental habits, and they aren’t always good ones. — Who would you be without your beliefs? How would you feel if you chose to believe something else instead? — Always remember to step outside your own head and try to consider the situation you’re in from every possible angle, and you may realize that what you thought was the only possible viewpoint was just one, narrow perspective. — Our beliefs are stories that we tell ourselves that we start to believe are our story. — We all walk through the world with a point of view informed by our pasts, but we can choose how much we let those experiences affect us, and what story we’re writing. — When you learn to let go and observe your own thoughts, you start to liberate your mind from whatever you’ve trained yourself to believe over time. — Finding peace is always about looking within ourselves; it’s a matter of being willing to dive deep and ask the right questions. Today’s episode is all about committing to not staying safe, to pulling back our safety blankets and seeing what happens when we fully let go and say “fuck it!” Here to inspire us is Tasha Blank, an artist, teacher, speaker, and DJ/producer on a mission to set the world free. Tasha has devoted her last decade to understanding how the technologies of the mind, music, and movement can be used to unlock our fullest potential. Her underground dance phenomenon, The Get Down, along with everything else she does — writing, coaching, teaching, composing, DJing, partying, dancing — is dedicated to letting the most liberated, badass versions of ourselves run wild. Tasha built her life around music and dancing as the mediums for her ultimate message about the possibility and adventure and truth to be found in our lives. She discovered that the quickest way to flip herself out of her bullshit brain and into the real and possible was through movement and sound, and has pursued that path ever since. With dance, Tasha explores the way in which people in Western cultures have become disconnected from their bodies and trapped in their own minds. DJing and music became the channel through which Tasha now explores the mind-body connection. Listening to our bodies and figuring out what we truly need is key to reconnecting with something important that we’ve all lost — our gut instinct. It can be a frightening process, and it’s certainly not easy, but committing to facing our fears and moving beyond them is the surest path forward towards making our dreams a reality. More Radical Lessons in this Episode: Music and dance aren’t separate from our bodies — we all have ears, we all hear rhythm, and rhythms move us. Our bodies store emotions, feelings, and trauma, but we’ve only been educated to process things intellectually, not physically; dance helps us learn to process what’s in our bodies. Trying something new is hard. We have to surrender to the fact that we’ll just suck at it for a while. It’s easy to psych yourself out of doing something and decide something’s not possible before even trying, but you need to be tenaciously committed to staying in motion and staying uncomfortable to achieve what you want. When we do things for ourselves that we truly need — sleep, nourish our bodies, move — we’re fulfilling universal needs, and ultimately increasing everyone else’s chances of fulfilling their own. Create spaces for safe, consensual dancing to help people to come home to themselves and listen to their bodies. So many (if not all) of the lines we draw between ourselves and others are completely false — ignore them, and embrace everyone. Your head may be telling you something is right, but you need to listen to your gut; pay attention when you feel an internal resistance to something. Today’s episode is all about opening yourself up to healing. Here to guide us is Maria Christina Gabriel, a New York City-based Intuitive offering Mentoring Sessions, Readings, and Retreats. Christina's mission is to guide you to create a life infused with purpose. By honoring traditions and creating modern approaches, Christina's work is energetic and instinctive. She holds space by blending different modalities - healing touch, plant medicine, astrology and holistic health - allowing clients to access greater healing and fulfillment. Christina is the creator of the German self-study course Power of Ceremony which will also be available in the US in 2018. In this episode, she walks us through the process of discovering different rituals and ceremonies to heal various parts of your life. She believes that it is important to understand that we need different things every day, as every day is different. She also touches on the idea of rebirthing and discovering who you are and what you want to be, and not what other people want to be. Christina believes that lot of times we hold ourselves back because we are afraid of what people might say, or that it might not work out. When we allow ourselves to come out of that shell, we show people that they can create the space for themselves to do the same. She urges you to allow yourself to heal and explains how there are different rituals and ceremonies you can use to heal various parts of your life. Allow the energy to be there and let go. Stop trying to make things a certain way, and allow energy to heal you so you can come home to yourself. More Radical Lessons in this Episode: You don’t have to live up to the version of you that your parents created you to be. Ask yourself these questions: What is my spirit craving in this moment? How can I serve myself and care for myself in this moment? Take this moment to breathe, to come back to your body, to connect with yourself again. Children have a connection with the world, but when you grow up you may lose that. We often try to be “normal” and we lose the creativity and the connection to the world that we once had. We carry the medicine to every problem that comes into our lives We don’t always need a “why” in order to meditate. You can just sit there and be with yourself and just be. It is not about being so brave that fear can not touch you, it’s about learning what you need to take that next step. Use your energy towards something you want, not just about something you don’t want. There is light mixed with darkness, there is balance in every situation. Your body is your home and it is all that you have. There is so much that we need to detach and actually come home. You have to focus on the inside to heal yourself. You can’t focus on the outside or look to the shiny products to help you, you have to look within to find the source that speaks to you in that moment. Find your own meditation that works for you Rediscover what it means to care for yourself How to create boundaries that feel good to you Rewiring your relationship with your “triggers” Everyone’s on a similar journey, but no one’s paths will look the same. Today’s episode is all about rediscovering what it means to care for yourself. This is part 2 of our amazing interview with Melinda Alexander. Melinda knows the importance of finding the time to care for herself as she works on balancing her successful business with motherhood. She understands that not everyone shares the same journey and encourages others to find the form of self care that works best for them. Melinda Alexander is a writer, mother, workshop facilitator, and activist who does women’s work. She lives in LA with her 7 year old and partner. She focuses on doing women’s work and helps women reimagine themselves, their style, and their lives. Melinda takes time every day to do her form of meditation, where she looks at her judgement or uncomfortable feelings and dives inward to discover what is really wrong. In this episode, she walks us through the idea that meditation is different for everyone, and your breakthroughs won’t always come from sitting on the mat. Instead, she uses meditation as an exploration whenever she is able to find the time to do so. Melinda also speaks about the importance of creating boundaries that feel good to you, and aren’t just “necessary”. She believes that no one’s journey is not going to look like hers, and there is no blanket path that will work for each individual. There are layers of experience and privilege that are different for everyone, and it is important to find your truth and your boundaries that work with your journey. When you look at others and experience jealousy, you have to reel it back in and trust that you will find the things that are meant for you when it is the right time for you to do so. She believes there is a large importance in finding the balance between getting rid of toxic people and triggers, and rewiring your relationship with those triggers. More Radical Lessons in this Episode Use meditation as an exploration. You may have an epiphany in the grocery store but you don’t always have the time to deal with it and go deeper. Then later, you can meditate and figure out what is going on and just sit and be with it. Anytime you can just sit and be with however you are feeling and noticing your emotions is meditation. Take time to discover what you are actually pissed off about. It’s rarely ever about the thing someone just said, but instead what you internalize it as. How to create boundaries that feel good to you that aren’t just “necessary”. Try to create enough mental space and agility to create a pattern and notice how you react when certain things come up. When meditating, new information can come up that isn’t external, but instead is internal with yourself and how you process things. Melinda would rather spend money on self care that is proactive and energy shifting, something that gives her support in what she is already doing. Self care for Melinda is like going to the doctor and finding the underlying issue that is causing her distress, or working towards fixing what is wrong in her life. We need to balance how much time we spend on social media and how much we actually take looking at our own lives. There was a time where we didn’t have social media, we only had movies, and we knew to some degree that those people were actors.
In this episode, Melinda Alexander teaches us the importance of processing our emotions at our own time. She guides us through how to live without fear of judgement so we can live as our authentic selves.
Just as we are in a constant state of evolution, so are our dreams. Today’s episode is all about letting yourself want something new. Here to guide us through this personal revolution is Erin Telford. She is no stranger to deciding on a new dream. In fact, Erin has taken her journey to internal transformation to a very literal and incredibly powerful place.
In Part 1 of my interview with Domonique Echeverria, we explored the depths of her personal revolution by healing ancestral trauma. Our ancestral wounds run deep, and Domonique knew that if she was ever truly going to heal her mind, body, and spirit, she would have to tackle her family’s darkest demons. With the determination to overcome disability, love herself radically, and grow beyond her perceived limits, Domonique entered the world of shamanic and reiki healing, hoping to find the peace and happiness she knew she deserved. This week, we are going to continue the conversation and tell you all about how alternative healing practices actually works. Domonique is thankful that she was chosen to carry pain. Why? Because now she can experience true bliss. Through her spiritual healing practices, Domonique finds ways to enter the bliss and feel the true magnitude of her experiences. Her mind did not need fixing with medication. Alternative healing became the very source of Domonique’s recovery and her new life calling.
