This show is dedicated to one of my present-day favourite musicians, Chico Mann. He is a multi-instrumentalist and record producer from New Jersey and part of a vibrant multicultural scene from NY. I discovered Chico Mann in 2010 after buying his album "Analog Drift". A great dance and pop album that gained praise from critics, his peers and fans. Chico Mann is the alter ego of Marcos Garcia. This musician is not only pursuing a solo music career with his alter ego. He is also a member of Antibalas and a heavy rock band called Here Lies Man. His eclecticism made him pair such a disparity of music influences such as Fela Kuti, Black Sabbath, Africa Bambaataa, Talking Heads, George Clinton and Willie Colon. A very unusual artist. This week: can we agree on ten artists that had a run of three genuinely classic albums in a row? #NotOffSeasonFiller Also: notes app apologies, the zeitgeist, not in those shoes, not in this conversation, go speculator, justifying to the unwashed, ten years gone, going to war, LA residencies, not good podcasting content, breaking format, encroaching washedness, you are here, reheated leftovers, entry points, sitting in a closet shouting into a bin, farting into a polystyrene cup, technological reproducibility, sending one in, problematic individuals, bad photocopies, black and white, national conversations, stadium misery, legacy whoopie cushions, into the FUTURE Future future, angry Brexit punk, plot devices for Chats songs and how to write a #1 pop song. Co-founder and songwriter Marcos Garcia discusses the songwriting, the lyrics, the creation, his history with vinyl and a World Premiere of the track "I Told You (You Shall Die)" from the upcoming Here Lies Man LP "Ritual Divination" on Riding Easy Records. If you like records, just starting a collection or are an uber-nerd with a house-full of vinyl, this is the podcast for you. Nate Goyer is The Vinyl Guide and discusses all things music and record-related.
