This week on the news, Decoy says HELLLLLLO to Sleater-Kinney. Formed in Olympia in 1994, Sleater-Kinney was one of the defining bands of the riot grrrl movement. After releasing seven studio records, the band entered a hiatus in 2005 but returned with full force with No Cities to Love, released in 2015. The band's latest is called Little Rope, released earlier this year. Head over to the band's official Hello shop for shirts, totes, camo hats and music—I recommend checking out this great tribute album, featuring bands like Wilco, Low, Big Joanie, and St. Vincent, who's also produced Sleater-Kinney music in the past. In other news, earlier this week we were surprised to see that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio AKA Bad Bunny, has joined the cast for the forthcoming Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to the 1996 original film. The Puerto Rican rapper joins Adam Sandler, and the film is slated to appear on Netflix in the future. And to close: in 1998, Swedish hardcore band Refused released their landmark album, The Shape of Punk to Come, which blended electronica, hard rock, jazz, and other forms. The band broke up not long after. But their influence continued to grow—prompting a reunion. This week, the band announced that it will stage its final tour in 2025, sharing dates, word of an expanded version of their classic album, and news about a tribute album, The Shape of Punk to Come Obliterated, featuring remixes and covers from bands like Zulu, Touche Amore, Quicksand, Ho99o9 and more. It took exactly FIFTY episodes, but Linkin Park is back on the show and we are talking about their legendary, 16 million copy-selling, sophomore album "Meteora". It's an album that is the last effort of Linkin Park's that could be considered nu-metal and finds John and Bryan at two totally different places in their life upon its release: an album so big it's the first that 17 year-old John can remember buying on its release day, and an album by a band that 24 year-old Bryan was so checked out on he didn't even know it came out. John brings that "I skipped school for the only time ever to buy this and blast it in my parents' 2000 Chevy Venture" energy to the show, and for the second time in POD Kast history, tries to get Bryan to love Linkin Park. And once again, it almost works. We also get multiple Rolling Stone profiles, a SPIN cover story, and we learn an awful lot about how this band hated partying. It's probably why John loved them so much. A massive album whose cultural legacy is completely cemented and we get into all of it here. If you want even more of our show's legacy, head on over to patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last month, Bryan and John reviewed Ho99o9's debut album, "United States of Horror", and it was a doozy. You also get access to our entire back catalogue, access to our Discord, and you can also tell us what to cover for a bonus episode! Support the boys and you won't miss out on a single time we're talking Nu!

Santigold, Black Thought and theOGM of Ho99o9 discuss how best to balance information and imagery, how being an artist is about dancing between spaces, the importance of not overthinking your art, and how to write an arena banger. Santigold is a singer and producer whose music is influenced by everything from hip-hop and punk, to gospel and reggae. Born in Philadelphia, she began her musical career writing for other artists, and performing in a punk band, before releasing her self-title debut album in 2008 to huge critical acclaim. Bringing things up-to-date, 2022 saw Santi put out her fifth studio album Spirituals, the first release on her own label Little Jerk Records. Tarik Trotter, AKA Black Thought, is an American rapper and actor who is regarded as one of the most important MC's of his time. He was the lead MC of the Philadelphia-based hip-hop group The Roots, and has recently released a new album in collaboration with Danger Mouse called Cheat Codes. theOGM, from the band Ho99o9, is an American musician whose fusion of hip-hop and industrial metal simply hasn't been done before. They're known for visceral live shows and have worked with some of the greats across metal and punk, including Slipknot's Corey Taylor and The Prodigy.

This week is chock-a-block with news, from Sergio Vega announcing that he's left Deftones (some time ago as it transpires) to The Prodigy announcing their first tour since the tragic death of the twisted firestarter himself Keith Flint. Then there's the intriguing idea behind Arcade Fire distributing the sheet music for their new songs across a bunch of collectible postcards, as well as the potentially worrisome news that Bandcamp have been bought out by Epic Games, the videogame and software developer behind the likes of Fortnite, the Unreal engine and Rocket League (although, let's not start bemoaning the death of bandcamp JUST yet eh?). Oh and on top of all that, Rammstein sent the internet into a spin by premiering the video for new single Zeit. As well as all that, Steve and Remfry find the time to fit in reviews of the new records from Kojey Radical, Drug Church and Ho99o9, plus they talk about their little adventure down to Kingston-upon-Thames to watch the utterly brilliant Biffy Clyro smash a (broadly) acoustic set. https://www.npr.org/2020/08/19/903547253/a-tale-of-two-ecosystems-on-bandcamp-spotify-and-the-wide-open-future (NPR Feature: A Tale of Two Ecosystems: On Bancamp, Spotify and the Wide-Open Future) This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Chris Fehn, and Jim Root. Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by guitarist Donnie Steele. Slipknot's mix of grinding, post-Korn alternative metal, Marilyn Manson-esque neo-shock rock, and rap-metal helped make them one of the most popular bands in the nu-metal explosion of the late 1990s and early 2000s. But even more helpful was their theatrical, attention-grabbing image: the band always performed in identical industrial jump suits and homemade Halloween masks, and added to their mysterious anonymity by adopting the numbers zero through eight as stage aliases. Add to that a lyrical preoccupation with darkness and nihilism, and an affectionately insulting name for their fans ('Maggots'), and Slipknot's blueprint for nu-metal success was set. Lineup: Slipknot, Talking Heads, S.O.D. Stormtroopers of Death, Dangerous Toys, Iron Maiden, Ho99o9, Refused, Public Enemy, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, Slayer, Venom, Megadeth, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Misfits, Glenn Danzig, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Testament, Alice Cooper, Behemoth, Neurosis, Mötley Crüe, Concrete Blonde, W.A.S.P.

It's the end of 2019 which has been an utterly fantastic year for music (possibly at the expense of everything else...) so as is traditional, here's our annual best of the year extravaganza! We count down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus we discuss songs that didn't quite make it, our favourite gigs of the year and also music we've discovered this year that didn't come out in 2019. It's basically like Top Of The Pops but with way more music from the former USSR... To explain how the voting works, we each picked our 10 favourite songs of the year, then in secret ranked our own out of 10 and the remaining songs from the other two's selections out of 20 (so the highest possible score would be 50 points if all three of us were unanimous on our favourite song and the lowest possible score would be 3 points). Ian's wife Lydia distributed the lists to each of us and then Colin's wife Helen added all the points up and sealed them in envelopes so we didn't find out the order until we were recording and all the reactions you hear are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three seperate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of the year. Bands featured in this episode include (in alphabetical order, you'll find no spoilers here!) - 1914, American Football, Julien Baker, Better Oblivion Community Center, Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Charly Bliss, Cult Of Luna, Czarface Vs Ghostface Killah, Lucy Dacus, Daughter, Disq, Bille Eilish, Mark Eitzel, Ghost, Max Govan, Grebz, Halfsour, Ho99o9, The Interrupters, KAUAN, Laibach, Jenny Lewis, Middle Kids, Mildlife, The Moth Gatherer, Marissa Nadler & Stephen Brodsky, The National, Oh Hiroshima, Opeth, Amanda Palmer, Porridge Radio, Refused, The Regrettes, Emma Ruth Rundle, Saudade, Seazoo, Sigrid, Taylor Swift, Tatarka, Devin Townsend, TOY, Tropical F*ck Storm, The Twilight Sad, Sharon Van Etten, Viagra Boys, Wozniak The spotify playlist for our best of the year list is at https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6sodrbToM7q1ZObdzf4Ubh?si=r8TG81A2QA25e0tyIRwnjA and our songs discovered in 2019 list is at https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3Vs7pPqDoE6J62MRP8cqrF?si=dIRMomoNSPWkZ7bHBFGAcg. as always, we'd love to hear what you think, you can talk to us on www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or on www.twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast . plus you can find all our other episodes and podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com. Merry Christmas, massive thanks to everyone who's listened or interacted with us in any way in 2019. it's 2020 in just over a week, how the hell did that happen. stay with us and help us as we ignore our existential crisises (crisiseseses?) by talking utter rubbish about music we love!

This week there's a plethora of great albums to discuss from the likes of Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, The Wildhearts, The Physics House Band and a collaboration between Marissa Nadler and Stephen Brodsky. Steve also went to see Ho99o9 live, whilst Remfry attended shows by Restorations and Devin Townsend. This week's trade off come courtesy of Acid Bath's 'When the Kite String Pops' and Beach Slang's 'The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us' and there's a detour into mainstream pop territory as the boys discuss rising star Billie Eilish. On this weeks episode, we rocket through two live show reviews in one episode. First we check in with RLYR at the release show for their newest release, Actual Existence at the Beat Kitchen. RLYR was joined by Pinebender, Fotocrime & Sweet Cobra. Next up we cover the Ho99o9, 3TEETH, W.O.R.M. & Street Sects show at all it's Industrial glory at Reggie's.
It's Christmas! so, this time, we're irking the Daily Mail readers by actually not doing much to do with Christmas at all (Let's call it a Winterval special just to annoy them even more!). It's our end of the year best of 2018 spectacular! We'll be counting down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus discussing our favourite gigs of the year and also music we've discovered this year which didn't come out in 2018. To explain how the voting works, we each picked our 10 favourite songs of the year, then for each list we each ranked them 1-10 giving 10 points to our favourite and 1 to the one we liked least on each list. we also had a bonus point we could assign to one song on either of the other people's lists (So Colin could only assign the bonus point to a song on either Tracey or Ian's list). Colin's wife then added all the points up and we didn't find out the order until we were recording, so all the reactions you'll hear are genuine. Now admittedly, we are a little bit brutal to some of the songs on the list, but please remember that to be in the episode they have to have been in one of our top tens of the year! Bands featured in this episode include Anaal Nathrakh, АИГЕЛ, The Atlas Moth, Author & Punisher, Big Russian Boss, Brooke Bentham, Church Of The Cosmic Skull, Clever Girl, The Common Cold, Corrosion Of Conformity, Dresden Dolls, Eels, Brian Eno/Kevin Shields, Epic45, Failure, Forest Swords, Four Stroke Baron, Gene, Ghost, Grouper, Half Man Half Biscuit, Ho99o9, Khruangbin, Laibach, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Metric, Malcolm Middleton, Mogwai, Neurosis, Pale Waves, Peaness, Josh T. Pearson, The Prodigy, Nathan Salsburg, Soccer Mommy, Stars Of The Lid, Superorganism, These Are End Times, Tropical Fuck Storm, Ulrika Spacek, Young Scum, and Kamasi Washington. With their Workmans Club exploits done and dusted (until December’s annual quiz, that is), the fearless foursome are back in NO ENCORE Towers for another jaunt through planet music. There’s UFOs, killer dolls and even an interview with Stephen bloody Malkmus, so let’s dive right in, eh? ACT ONE: Picture This inexplicably popular, Fleetwood Mac having a dispute, and Tom deLonge’s investigation into alien life is looking inadvisable – so far so normal then. But the boys greeting the comeback of Winamp with glee? The news just got a lot more interesting… ACT TWO: Six years after his last full-length effort, Matthew Dear returns with Bunny. Will our hosts be hopping on the bandwagon, or is the producer living on burrowed time? ACT THREE: An eclectic grab-bag provides for an exciting Songs of the Week; The Prodigy and Ho99o9 bring the fire, Dermot Kennedy the power, RTJ spit venom, Friendly Fires are heaven-bound and Sampha is, quite simply, a beautiful boy. ACT FOUR: Craig wags chins with all-round nice guy Stephen Malkmus, discussing Drake, social media, and – hilariously – not mentioning Pavement once. EXIT MUSIC: Daithí ft. Tandem Felix, ‘Lavender’

At the crossroads of Punk, Hard Core, and Hip Hop is New Jersey duo Ho99o9 (Horror). The pair packs scathing social commentary with aggressive and distorted guitar lines all propelled by chugging drums. Jesse Menendez spoke with Eaddy and TheOGM of Ho99o9 about their latest album "The United States of Horror."
