It's been five years! Yes, it's 5th anniversary extravaganza episode of Sending Signals! I'm delighted that Dan Wilson agreed to come back on for a catch-up. He's one of my favourite ever guests on the show and he didn't disappoint. We talk about his recent Grammy win, the role of embarrassment in songwriter, as well as the story behind the Semisonic classic “Singing In My Sleep”. Chris has written songs with the likes of Taylor Swift, Adele, Mitski, Chris Stapleton and on and on… British singer-songwriter Sheila Lord also joins me for a chat and a heart-stopping live performance. I'm also happy that Rhys Edwards, AKA Astrel K, joined me from Stockholm to talk about his new album “The Foreign Department”, which is one of the loveliest albums of the year. As if that wasn't enough, I'm joined by my friend, podcaster Luke Bligh who co-hosts “Star Wars Sessions” amongst other things. You can hear some of our conversation peppered throughout the episode. Wow. What a packed episode! It was a lot to put together, and I really hope you enjoy it. Thanks to all the guests on this episode, and indeed, over the past 5 years, and thank YOU for listening. It really means a lot. MattX: @signalspodcastInsta: @sendingsignalspodcast

Je suis partie à Angers. Interviewer Doudou. Christophe Davy.Book or Die c'est lui !

Hear thee! Hear thee! It's another episode of We Heard Wonders-ee! Yep, @weheardwonders are back with five smoking hot new platters to revolve and review: the bad-trip psychedelia of Ulrika Spacek; the impossible-to-ignore rave ramblings of Clark's Town Crank; the diaphanous dream-psych of Death and Vanilla; the post-genre posturing of Yves Tumor; and the satisfyingly versatile soul stylings of Baby Rose. We give our thoughts on Taylor Swift's ‘Eras' concept and a perfect jazz-inflected soul LP has the Vinyl Word. Sorry for the lack of episodes this last week; I normally try to get a handful of episodes up in the time since we last spoke. But I've been busy finishing my book! And I've been quite ill! The book is reading well, though! I'm so very excited to share it with you! But for now, here's a bonus episode of the podcast – a bonus episode because the audio is a bit scratchier than I would bring you on a regular episode – with the great Ulrika Spacek, the guitarist and vocalist of whom, that would be Rhys Edwards, I spoke to a few weeks ago, on the eve of the release of his band's third record, the excellent Compact Trauma, out now on Tough Love Records. I'll be back with a few more episodes this week, all being well, but for now, settle down and settle in for a pretty fun episode, I think! It's Christmas! so, this time, we're irking the Daily Mail readers by actually not doing much to do with Christmas at all (Let's call it a Winterval special just to annoy them even more!). It's our end of the year best of 2018 spectacular! We'll be counting down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus discussing our favourite gigs of the year and also music we've discovered this year which didn't come out in 2018.To explain how the voting works, we each picked our 10 favourite songs of the year, then for each list we each ranked them 1-10 giving 10 points to our favourite and 1 to the one we liked least on each list. we also had a bonus point we could assign to one song on either of the other people's lists (So Colin could only assign the bonus point to a song on either Tracey or Ian's list). Colin's wife then added all the points up and we didn't find out the order until we were recording, so all the reactions you'll hear are genuine. Now admittedly, we are a little bit brutal to some of the songs on the list, but please remember that to be in the episode they have to have been in one of our top tens of the year!Bands featured in this episode include Anaal Nathrakh, АИГЕЛ, The Atlas Moth, Author & Punisher, Big Russian Boss, Brooke Bentham, Church Of The Cosmic Skull, Clever Girl, The Common Cold, Corrosion Of Conformity, Dresden Dolls, Eels, Brian Eno/Kevin Shields, Epic45, Failure, Forest Swords, Four Stroke Baron, Gene, Ghost, Grouper, Half Man Half Biscuit, Ho99o9, Khruangbin, Laibach, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Metric, Malcolm Middleton, Mogwai, Neurosis, Pale Waves, Peaness, Josh T. As the sun begins to sink to the west of Eclectic Kettle, we're trying to bring back some of our favourite guest hosts from over the years. This week it's Johan Oskarsson from 1.21 Gigawatts. This week is also really special as we'll be featuring excerpts of Ben's interview with Super Furry Animals front-man Gruff Rhys. He's here to talk about his new solo record Babelsberg, and his show next week at the Chapel in San Francisco.Gruff is a smart, thoughtful man and one of Ben's all time musical heroes, so this was a treat. The full interview is featured alongside this show as a special standalone episode (along with a transcript, since we were recording a Welsh accent over the telephone.) Listen in full here. You can win a pair of tickets for Gruff Rhys at The Chapel by visiting our giveaway page. He's always a delight, but as you'll hear in the interview, this album in particular should make for an especially good show. Email giveaways@bff.fm with the subject “Gruff” to win! We Dig Music - 3 music geeks from the West Midlands jabbering on about music... Warning - extra sweary episode. Probably best not to listen to when you're with your Nan. This is Part 2. Listen to part 1 first, obviously... This time we take a break from our usual alphabetical musical meanderings because as the great prophet Noddy Holder once said, IT'S CHRIIIIIIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAASSSS!!!!! As usual, we still don't stay on topic for long so this episode also features festive tales of being unexpectedly woken up by French people, Vengeful 12 year old girls vs HMV, a heated debate on what does or does not constitute a Christmas song and angry rants about various Beatles.
