A Doig medal, an All Australian, a Simpson medal and lead DJ at Covid Club 150. Time to Restump Podcast Lukey Ryan's 150th in the demolition of the Dees. The defensively versatile Luke Ryan has put together a remarkable 150 games and played them at a ridiculously consistent high-end level. He's been the mainstay, showing incredible durability, playing 150 of a possible 160 games since his debut in 2017, and at 28 years of age, there's another 100+ games in him yet.His services were barely required Sunday as we tore a hapless Melbourne Demons team apart in the middle, softening the reliance on the defensive unit. Without a Max Gawn and a Christian Petracca, there was little to no resistance in the midfield and around the ground at stoppages. While without any doubt we performed superbly, producing a connectivity enabling chains of play we have only dreamt of and been striving for, our lack of an opponent had some say in it. There is something that is just not cricket at Melbourne. We took 21 marks inside 50 and our average prior to the game was 12. A total of 24%, nearly one in every four of our marks were inside 50! That is an insane stat. We usually go around the 12%, or one in 8 or 9 marks inside 50.We went +31 in the clearances when we average +7 all year. Centre clearances we were +9 and we usually go around +2.4 mark. The Dees had a Jack Viney and a Clayton Oliver in there. They rolled Trent Rivers and Tom Sparrow through there. These are far from fringe players so there is plenty of merit in our performance. But you don't put up numbers like we did against these types if there aren't additional underlying issues. Max Gawn and Christian Petracca are influential greats but they weren't that big of a difference. Something is a tad off at Demon land. But we got to play our game and hone our drills. We banked another four points and added 3% which may or may not end up vital. Top 4 is ours if we want it. It was magnificent to see what is now the full-blown arrival of Josh Treacy. Lets remember, while the Dees were off in the middle they still had a Steven May and a Jake Lever. Neither of them caused Treacy any grief.Message sending Sonny Walters was back causing havoc and putting in a complete and well-rounded game. Never write off champions! I'm willing to bet right now that Andy Brayshaw is a shoe-in for next captain. He's back to his 2022 best, with big moment and game influential acts. If anyone wants that bet, get in touch with me!It was one of those one in all in, same page, individual role playing performances that produces stunning results. The Dees may not have put the pressure on us but its still a win we should take great confidence out of.The injury to the captain is a devastating one and hasn't arrived at the ideal time. He was in scintillating form and leaves shoes impossible to fill. Lets hope the time frame is good news. While we sit in the top 4, we are only a game and a half out of 9th. So, the words 'No Complacency' should be put in bold on the white board down at Cockburn this week, as we head towards the derby! We ran into a few time hurdles so the Mi Casa Property Boutique Metres Gained competition didn't get up last weekend. It'll return for the Derby. It was a thoroughly enjoyable game to watch but it's an interesting game to assess. Ross Lyon's “never as good or as bad” line seems highly appropriate.Anyway, let's get into a bit more depth on the pod and see what noisy nonsense eventuates.Support the Show.

“Please don't tell Mum, Andy!” The battle of the Brayshaw brothers ended in Andy's favour and probably a month's grounding for both. Time to Restump Podcast Saturday's magnificent win.It was probably one of the most entertaining, all-consuming, edge of the seat matches we've played this year. Four frantic quarters of frenetic pressure which both teams delivered and absorbed, played in amazing spirit. We needed a true test to really find out where we actually were at and the Dees on their home deck was just what the Docker and/or Doctor ordered. It was a war of attrition that our purple boys impressively handled in a way far beyond the collective's age and experience. To be two years younger and nearly fifty games less experienced across the board, take everything the Dees handed out and return it with interest, was a monumental effort. It cemented the belief that Freo, somehow, are genuinely back among the finals contenders. Surely anyone who wasn't keen on the recruiting of Luke Jackson has had a change of heart? His game was something else even before Sean Darcy unfortunately went down. But to then combat Brody Grundy and Max Gawn (Bromax) solo for two and a half quarters… we don't get the win without his performance. If you can purchase Matt Johnson stock, buy up everything you can. His size, his smarts, his craft, his agility and his composure for a 20-year-old kid is rarer than an honourable politician. And then there's Jye. Another kid with ridiculous footy smarts, superb mobility and sublime skills. He's the forward we've been looking for since the mighty Pav retired. Working cohesively in tandem with, and getting assistance from Josh Treacy, Jye's team-oriented mindset and individual 3 goals kicked on a Steven May and Jake Lever combination, are a sign of things to come for the next decade and beyond. His thoroughly deserved round eleven rising star nomination was a long time coming.Enough of this here! We're bouncing off the walls, keen to get into this 60+ minutes of prattling on about the purple. Our season is back! We're back! Who would have thunk it five weeks ago? Feel free to come along for the conversation with us as we verbally overdose on the purple drug…. in a non-toxic, safe manner and environment! Support the show

Two Brayshaws would have been handy… but we're ok running with one and a Jackson. Time to Restump Podcast preview the Brayshaw Bros Friday Night Bout in the Freo V Dees clash.Angus Brayshaw is a big signing for the Dees and congratulations to them. However, interestingly enough the grapevine chatter is suggesting Luke Jackson flew to WA for tomorrow night's game with a shipping container of luggage! (Disclaimer - We may have put that out on the grapevine) Massive game Friday night and its fair to say there are some nerves in the Restump camp regarding the outcome. Question marks are being placed over Melbourne by the wider football community, they'll want some retribution for round 11, there is threatening weather… do we have a plan B? In that round 11 win, Petracca was injured, Steven May went down in the first quarter and Harrison Petty was on one leg.Rightio that's enough of the glass half empty…. it'll probably fill up tomorrow night from the rain!Rory Lobb returning is obviously vital, joining Tabs to take on a formidable Jake Lever and Steven May duo. So much of our fortunes rest on the shoulders of Sonny, Shultzy, Freddy and co. If they don't bring the frenetic pressure and intensity we know they can, then our hopes of a much-needed win take a massive hit.Probably fair to say Mitchy is getting a little twitchy! There is not a lot more he can do, but the small forward region is a bit of a Crowden area at the moment. He's banging on the door but it's just not getting opened. Does he get in through the emergency entrance? We need a big lift from Sean “Swaggy Onions” Darcy up against the great Max Gawn. Darce has been a bit off his influential form for a fair bit of the season but he does seem to save his best for the best. Darce and Lobb up against Gawn and future teammate Jackson… an interesting battle. The midfield is where it starts and it's Petracca, Oliver and Viney opposed to Serong, Brayshaw, Brodie and Mundy… at some stage an Aish might get the tap on the shoulder and asked to ‘put the slows' on someone but you'd imagine they'd be ready for such a move. The defenders will do their usual super defending and strangle the Dee's scoring but Bailey Fritsch kicked 3 against us in round 11. Last week he nailed 4 and Sam Weiderman booteed 3 while Melksham and Pickett each got a couple. They're in good nick and they have a good spread of competent goal kickers. We need 60 points to make the top four and probably 52 points to all but guarantee us a spot in the eight. So 3 wins for top four and one win for finals. Lets focus on the top eight and cliché it to one week at a time. Can't wait for tomorrow night. We hold some fears of what might be but we have hope knowing what we can potentially make happen. So, click play and join us for a light-hearted 45 minutes of everything retro Freo before the clash gets under way tomorrow evening. While Jojo is in his element with this retro jumper, I am not underestimating the damage it may do. When you look good you feel good…. This jumper may have a lot to answer for!Get up, Freo.
