Clinicians often zoom in on the knee with an acute meniscus tear, but the body usually has other plans. In this episode, I walk through two client cases who arrived with classic meniscal presentations: pain, swelling, and loss of flexion. But the real driver of their pain at that assessment revealed itself only when I followed LTAP® findings back to the central nervous system.I break down how CNS tension alters dynamic alignment, hip mechanics, and tibiofemoral arthrokinematics, and why this pattern shows up so often in clients with knee pain. You'll hear exactly how I used the LTAP® to identify the true restriction and why the CNS initially mattered more than local knee work.In this episode, you'll learn:• How CNS tension alters gait, hip rotation, and knee loading during daily movement• Why addressing cranial containers can transform lower-extremity biomechanics• How simple sensory-driven treatments can reduce symptoms in structurally injured knees• When to treat locally, when to treat globally, and how to make that call with confidenceThis episode Is a practical reminder that system-level clarity leads to better outcomes, whethers it's in acute or chronic client cases.Resources & Links Mentioned In This Episode:Episode 86: Decoding The Nervous System For Health ProsEpisode 94: Understanding The Piriformis PuzzleLearn the LTAP® In-Person in one of my upcoming coursesConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. In this episode of the Optimal Body Podcast, Doctors of Physical Therapy Dr. Jen and Dr. Dom debunk the myth that deep squats are harmful to the knees and discuss their impact on knee health. They trace the misconception to outdated research and review recent studies showing deep squats are generally safe and beneficial for healthy adults, supporting overall knee health. The hosts discuss knee biomechanics, the importance of gradual progression, and individualized modifications. They emphasize that deep squats support functional movement, joint health, and knee health, even for those with knee pain, and encourage listeners to challenge old beliefs and approach squatting with confidence and proper technique.VivoBarefoot Discount:Support your feet and ankles with VivoBarefoot shoes—with perfect styles for any occasion! Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why! Most knee pain stories sound the same: a new running plan, a few hard workouts, and then an ache that won't leave. We take that familiar frustration and turn it into a practical roadmap. Starting with a clear scope—what coaches can do and when to refer out—we break down the anatomy that actually drives decisions, the screens that reveal load bottlenecks, and the progressions that build resilient knees. We lean into a joint-by-joint approach: verify ankle mobility so the knee doesn't become a substitute hinge, then probe hip rotation and control with the 90-90 position. From there, we show how calf capacity underpins every step—most people aren't near twenty-five single-leg calf raises—and why the frontal plane is a silent deal-maker for runners and lifters. Expect actionable strength work like side planks with abduction, standing abductions, seated and standing calf raises, and carefully dosed plyometrics once tissue tolerance is ready.Soft tissue isn't a fix, but it is a useful window. We explain how targeted work on the adductors and surrounding tissues can calm sensitivity so better movement sticks. We also demystify scary imaging, remind you that MRIs find “something” in almost everyone, and focus on what changes pain: load management, smart progression, and consistent retesting. The thread through all of it is collaboration—building a dependable relationship with a physical therapist, documenting assessments, and using simple benchmarks to show progress your clients can feel and see.If you coach people who run, squat, lunge, or just want to move without wincing, you'll walk away with a simple, repeatable system: assess, address, load, retest, and refer when in doubt. Subscribe for more coach-first education, share this with a trainer who needs a clear plan, and leave a review to tell us the biggest knee question you want answered next.Want to ask us a question? 9.16.25, Tom Schad from The Washington Post joins the Kevin Sheehan Show to discuss Jayden Daniels' knee injury, what's the solution to keeping Jayden upright and adjustments that could be made to the lineup.
Lynnell and Anthony dive into Jayden Daniels' knee injury and the question that follows: does he need to adjust his play style? Both agree his legs are what make him dynamic, but Lynnell stresses that Daniels must develop better discernment to avoid unnecessary hits and know when to get down. Anthony argues that Kliff Kingsbury may need to tweak the offense, putting Jayden under center more often to create a versatile rushing attack, open up play-action, and reduce the hits Daniels takes in shotgun-heavy sets.
A caller shares an intriguing theory suggesting that the way Jayden Daniels' injury is being handled could indicate deeper issues within the Commanders organization. The discussion also touches on a comparison to Robert Griffin, exploring whether the situation mirrors the past or represents a different challenge altogether.

Lynnell reacts to Dan Quinn's announcement that Jayden Daniels is day-to-day with a knee sprain and uncertain for Sunday's matchup against the Raiders. Drawing from last season, when Daniels played through broken ribs and his performance suffered, Lynnell argues the Commanders must protect their young QB from himself. While Daniels' competitive fire is unquestioned, the team's long-term success hinges on prioritizing his health over short-term results.
