Ninjak has been in the works for some time, announced way back in July 2020, is it odd talking about a book that's so long in development, or par for the course in comics?Ninjak has been rebooted and retooled various times over the years, how are you approaching the character? With the pandemic's delay, did you end up tweaking this story more than past tales you've written, or did it stay pretty close to your original pitch.?Can you talk a bit about Javier Pulido's work, was there a specific page in the first issue that he exceeded your expectations? What separates Ninjak from other rich and tactful superheroes? In your opinion, how does Valiant differ from other publishers? The super spy angle of Ninjak has always been a big draw. Do you have any spy movies or books you look to for inspiration or to get you in the headspace to write Ninjak? We're big James Bond fans here, loved your James Bond Origin and recently talked to Ibrahim Moustafa about Bond as well, we must ask, who do you think is the definitive Bond?Future Quest and Batman 66 were books of yours that we reviewed and greatly enjoyed, do you have a desire to return to either of those projects in the future, or are there other series you'd like to return to some day? What other projects do you have in the works? What comics are you reading right now?Off Topic Top Shelf: Jeff Parker - Beer!
Ibrahim Mustafa joins Creator Talks to discuss his latest graphic novel Count being published through Humanoids. This sci-fi revenge story is based on the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. The original is not the swashbuckling tale those who have not read it may think it is. Why did Ibrahim decide to make this story the foundation for his graphic novel? Why does the coloring and lettering fit so well with Ibrahim’s art style? And why is this graphic novel more satisfying for Ibrahim than a comic series or fill-in issue he has drawn? Growing up Ibrahim’s favorite superhero was Superman, and he talks about how seeing Alex Ross’ Man of Steel influenced his own art style. Ibrahim reveals his favorite to comic art tutorial books, and why he has decided not to launch a how-to YouTube Channel. We also talk about his work on James Bond: Origin and Solstice for Dynamite comics, and why he thinks Timothy Dalton is the best James Bond. Why does Ibrahim think Dalton’s James Bond was initially unjustly maligned by audiences but grew to be more appreciated as Agent 007. We touch upon his 2017 Eisner Nominated digital comic Jaeger, the story of a World War II allied spy bent on revenge against his Nazi captors. The book is only available in print from Ibrahim’s website. Ibrahim is also the Art Director for Colorcubic, consulting on job ranging from art designs to video games. What has been his greatest challenge working as Art Director? I conclude our interview with my Final 9 Questions, in which we learn about his hobby of making amazing custom action figures, his favorite once-in-a-lifetime birthday experience, and one of his pet peeves that involves smartphones. Jeff Parker returns to the show this week to talk to Chris about James Bond: Origin, the decade-spanning trend of bros icing bros, biscuits, theme songs and a whole lot more! Plus, Elle Collins fills in for Matt for checks, recs and comics reviews!
Hello dear listeners! Many 00 aficionados consider Ian Fleming's Casino Royale to be the holy grail of all things 007. It's the first ever published of the source material that has since branched off into so many different formats in which regale ourselves in Bond goodiness. But who was James Bond before Casino Royale? Ah, THAT is the question on…probably very few peoples' lips when it was announced Anthony Horowitz was returning to the world of Fleming for a prequel book. After all, more than one novel has tackled James' younger days in the aptly titled Young Bond series of books. Then came Dynamite Entertainment's James Bond Origin series, which recently completed its run. And speaking of holy grail's, let's not forget James Bond Jr! This week Mathieu and Edgar dive into the deep end for a conversation about Forever and a Day, the Casino Royale prequel that, while lauded by some, has been on surprisingly few lips since its release in 2018. Any opportunity to discuss literary Bond is a joyous occasion, a platform ripe for a multitude of sharp, astute commentary the boys are known for, such as: What makes a good Casino Royale prequel and a good 007 novel? Are they even necessarily the same? More classic ways of discerning if someone has homosexual tendencies, such as if they don't speak English and are monstrously obese. Why aren't there more nude chicks on the covers of Bond novels these days? Mocking someone for having a brain tumour and making it sound funny. Mocking someone for being fat and making it sound funny. The logistics of producing industrial quantities of heroine without anybody knowing about it. And so many more riveting topics! Sit back and join us in the south of France for a relaxing, invigorating, heroine filled episode.
Jeff Parker joins Creator Talks to discuss the conclusion of his 12 issue series James Bond Origin published through Dynamite Entertainment. What boundaries did Jeff set for writing Bond’s origin and how did he build on references made in the Ian Fleming novels? How did he avoid the trap of writing a story that simply paid “fan service” and who are Jeff's favorite actors who portrayed 007? Next, we dig into Jeff’s latest series John Carter Warlord Of Mars Attacks, also published throughDynamite Entertainment. How did Jeff and series artist Dean Kotz develop the look of John Carter, and how did Jeff decide to explain the process of Carter’s teleportations to Mars? We also talk about the Disney movie John Carter (2012) and what would have made it a commercial success. Of course we had to talk about the Batman ‘66 series Jeff wrote! We discuss some of the issues around licensing character likenesses, going beyond villains who appeared in the television series, and how difficult it was produce those DC2 digital issues! Kicking Back With The Creator, I find out what was Jeff’s favorite birthday, beverage of choice, island book, and about his experience while in Las Vegas. We’re talking the Fremont Street Experience and tacos folks! Wahoo! Please rate and review Creator Talks on iTunes Learn more about Jeff Parker About Warlord of Mars Attacks

Despite torrential flooding, the Alternate Reality crew is still here and all without building an Ark. We managed to survive the flood waters this time but with a new hurricane coming in on the eastern seaboard, we’re liable to be up to our necks in it. In the meantime, we’re already up to our necks in comics. We’ve got an assortment for you this week as Jon and Charlie talk about everything from James Bond in WWII, to the Star Wars Universe and all points in-between. And if that wasn’t enough for you, the boys take some extra time to dive outside the comics book flood waters into other seas of geekery. We take a quick look at Spider-Man which just hit the PS4 and Iron Fist season 2 which just hit Netflix. Uh oh, I should have said that. Whenever we say we’re gonna do anything quick, or just touch on a subject for a few mins, the episode turns out to be twice as long. Well, perhaps that’s for the best as the boys must take an extended brake after this so Jon can go to the Cleveland Clinic and be seen by the world’s best doctors. So this double length episode may have to last as much as three weeks before Alternate Reality will be back. Sorry, but that’s just the way things go sometimes. Enjoy!!!
