EPISODE 145: Rob Arthur is a musician, filmmaker and watercolorist. He's currently the bandleader for the Peter Frampton Band. His new (and first) foray into filmmaking has riled the new documentary "FRAMPTON". From the explosive heights of Frampton Comes Alive! to the quiet introspection of his final tour, "Frampton" is an intimate portrait of a rock icon who soared, stumbled, and rose again. This feature documentary traces Peter Frampton's extraordinary life and career — from his meteoric rise in the 1970s that made him a global sensation, through the turbulent years that tested his artistry, identity, and resilience. As the roar of stadium crowds faded, Frampton faced the daunting task of rebuilding — reinventing his sound and rediscovering his purpose across solo projects, collaborations, and relentless touring. Behind the stage lights, personal sacrifices and fractured family ties reveal the cost of fame that few ever see. Now, diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, a degenerative muscle condition threatening his ability to play guitar, Frampton stands at a profound crossroads. framptonfilm.comContact us: makingsoundpodcast.comFollow on Instagram: @makingsoundpodcastFollow on Threads: @jannkloseJoin our Facebook GroupPlease support the show with a donation, thank you for listening!

They dive into the administration's efforts to address housing affordability and the American dream. Secretary Turner and Seth highlight the importance of equal rights and merit-based opportunities for housing for all Americans. We're joined by John Dombroski, founder and president of Grand Canyon Planning Associates. Jimmy Jam is on Celebrity Jobber with Jeff Zito this week. What type of work would Jam be doing if not for being an R&B/pop songwriter and record producer since the 1980s with various artists like Lionel Richie, Herb Alpert, TLC, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Boyz II Men, Usher, Chaka Khan, and more? Many celebrities will tell you that if not for that one lucky break or meeting, they would have been working at McDonald's, like Rachel McAdams, or teaching middle school drama, like Jon Hamm. In other words, they may have been just a jobber.

Discograffiti is the deep-dive podcast for music obsessives. In this episode, we feature the next entry in The Chuck Granata Pet Sounds Interview Series. It's Chuck's chat with legendary Gold Star engineer Larry Levine, the man responsible, side by side with The Wrecking Crew, for building Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound”. His peak accomplishments include “Be My Baby”, “Summertime Blues”, “River Deep, Mountain High”, “You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'”, “He's A Rebel”, "Then He Kissed Me", A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector, Pet Sounds, Smile, and so many others. Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss poached Larry in 1967, making him A&M Records' Chief Engineer. Larry passed away just a few years after this interview in 2008, which makes this posthumously released “Chuck Chat” yet another priceless buried treasure. Here are just a few of the many things that Larry discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: The early days of Gold Star and working with Phil Spector; The Phil Spector session that became the turning point in his working relationship with the producer; How Larry created the very first echo chamber, and an in-depth overview on how it developed over time; Larry's assessment of Brian Wilson's overall character; How Phil talked about Brian to Larry when Brian wasn't around; And his relationship with Chuck Britz. There'll be a short sneak peak running publicly for free, but the entirety of this podcast will only be accessible on the Major Tier of Discograffiti's Patreon. Don't miss it, or you'll only be getting part of the story. Get it as a one-off, or better yet just subscribe…and then we'll all have world peace. Oasis are undoubtedly the biggest band to rise out of Brit Pop. And it's hard to describe how massive their return is. For years, the public fighting between the Gallagher brothers suggested they'd never come back. And one day, they did.Oasis have been playing all over the world to stadiums of screaming fans, young and old. And as they finally return to Australia, we're celebrating by sharing a Take 5 for the ages from the archives.A couple of years ago Zan Rowe sat down with Noel Gallagher in his own studio, in Kings Cross, London. At this stage, the reformation tour was not on. He was recording and touring with his band the High Flying Birds, and had just released an album called Council Skies. Noel's history is everywhere in his songs. And the songs he loves, too. You'll hear songs you're expecting, but it's the ones you're not that'll pack a real punch. And the stories? The Big Mates discuss Burt Bacharach, The Zombies, David Bowie, Scott Walker, Belle & Sebastian, Serge Gainsbourg, The Electric Prunes, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Astrud Gilberto, Mel Torme, The Sonics, and The Age of the Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets. Adam, Steve, and Lucas continue their exploration of the career of Arctic Monkeys by briefly stepping outside of it in order to examine the debut album of a side project Alex Turner formed with Miles Kane. They discuss how the project came together, the writing and recording of the album, and they explore the overall themes and sound, taking in the compositions, tones, lyrics, meaning, and context - all from three differing perspectives, from being deeply into music and analysis, to not caring for art or critique, and everything in between! They also look at how the side project was informed by, and goes on to influence the music made by Arctic Monkeys. How different is this album to Turner's previous work? How tongue in cheek is it? How many strings does a bass guitar have? This is an encore presentation of a previous episode, originally airing in September 2022. "Planting By The Signs," S.G.'s latest album, comes out on June 20th. -- S.G. Goodman delivers both a voice and a lyrical wisdom that feel perfectly worn in -- like that of an artist who's been crafting decades worth of masterful, soul-baring material. What's all the more astounding is that she's only a few albums in to what will hopefully be a long, deep career. The publication Bitter Southerner defines her sound as "driven by love, sometimes by defiance, but always by a delight in singing out... like the declaration of an artist who knows exactly who she is, backed by a band that blows the roof off the studio." On today's show, S.G. shares her affection for Herb Alpert's "Ladyfingers," some candid struggles with diagnosed OCD, the unique way in which her Marantz receiver was acquired, and the underappreciated comforts of house slippers. Find tour dates, social media and more at sggoodman.net.
Tools are for humans (and super-smart animals, apparently), garages are for cars, countertops are for food, and rollaways are for organizing! This esoteric episode is all (mostly) about embracing the perfectionist - just a little - and making your tools and shop space match your intellect and style. Because so many good projects and necessary repairs get hog-tied by bad organization, and a lack of operable tool enhancement can be submarined by a lack of organization, we want you to scratch that itch and embrace the OCD (if just long enough to put the nut drivers in the correct drawer). While we're at it, there's Jerry Reed and "Amos Moses", Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Ninja Tune and Funkungfusion, Electronic Excursions in Hi-Fi and Meat Beat Manifesto, and more "Kashmir' covers than you can shake a two-headed guitar at.

Send us a textEpisode 014From the groundbreaking Lyricon of the 1970s to today's Roland Aerophone, Tom's distinctive electronic wind sounds have shaped countless recordings across jazz, pop, and film scores for decades. The continuation of our in-depth conversation with this legendary musician reveals fascinating insights about his approach to technology and musicianship. "What would best benefit the music?" Tom asks, explaining that wind controllers have always been just another tool in his arsenal, alongside saxophones and other woodwinds. This pragmatic philosophy has guided his five-decade career, allowing him to bring precisely the right sound to each musical situation.Tom shares colorful stories about watching Michael Brecker perform with the EWI at the Hollywood Bowl, his collaboration with Herb Alpert (who Tom credits with "reintroducing horns back into pop music" in the 1960s), and his ongoing quest to recapture the magic of his original Lyricon sound with modern technology. His description of searching for authentic expression amid endless digital possibilities will resonate with electronic musicians of all stripes. What truly distinguishes Tom's approach is his focus on musical expression rather than technological novelty. As he explains, of the hundreds of available sounds on modern wind controllers, he only cares deeply about the handful that allow him to express himself authentically. This quality-over-quantity philosophy serves as a valuable compass for musicians navigating today's overwhelming array of digital options. The conversation also delves into practical territory, with Tom and hosts Matt and Alistair exchanging tips on customizing Aerophone settings, adjusting key functions, and solving common playability challenges. These technical insights offer immediate value for wind controller players seeking to optimize their instruments.Ready to dive deeper into Tom Scott's world?
