Lee Magorrian had never been on a horse's back when he got a stablehand's job with Joe Byrne in his native County Meath in 2009. He continued to work on the ground when he later transferred to legendary horsewoman Joanna Morgan. Lee's life took an unexpected twist when he was encouraged by a friend to visit NZ where he made the snap decision to become an apprentice jockey. One hundred winners later, young Magorrian won a much sought after scholarship which springboarded him into a trip to Australia and a stint with premier trainer Chris Waller. The much travelled young jockey is now firmly ensconced as a popular “go-to” jockey on the NSW provincial circuit. It's a pleasure to share Lee's story on our podcast. Lee says he's been surprised by the ongoing support of  Chris Waller and several other trainers who patronise the Newcastle and Kembla Saturday meetings. He talks about his patient style of riding and his efforts to look busy in tight finishes. The jockey takes us back to childhood days in County Meath (IRE). He talks of siblings and the absence of racing in the family background.    Lee says there was a time he had visions of becoming a primary school teacher but that ambition was quickly replaced by several sporting pursuits.                                                    He admits to taking on his stablehand's job for no other reason than to earn some pocket money. He pays tribute to two employers Joe Byrne and Joanna Morgan, both former outstanding jockeys.   He talks of a suggestion put to him by Samantha Wynne, an Irish jockey who was already working in NZ. Lee looks back on his first apprenticeship to Roger James at his famous Kingscere Stables in Cambridge. Sadly the association didn't work out. He talks of a move to the stables of Shaun and Emma Clotworthy. Lee remembers with clarity the thrill of his first winning ride at Ruakaka. He reflects on a black type win at Te Rapa on a very smart horse called Barbaric. Lee remembers an Ellerslie win on Rising Romance, almost certainly the best horse he got to ride in NZ. The 31 year old hasn't forgotten the thrill of his scholarship win, a whirlwind move to Sydney and a stint at the Waller stable. Lee says he thought his first win for Waller would never come. He was immensely relieved to get home on Pianissimo at Warwick Farm. He was thrilled to land a Saturday double at Royal Randwick not long after. Lee talks of a win in an apprentice's race on the ill fated Higher Ground. He had a big opinion of the gelding. The jockey likes to claim some of the credit for the launch of Fangirl's stellar career. He had the mount when Fangirl strolled home in a Goulburn maiden. He recalls a win on Mo'unga when the horse was trained by Chris Waller.   Lee enjoys reminiscing about some high profile horses he got to ride in trackwork for the Waller stable. He hasn‘t forgotten the thrill of his biggest single race day achievement, a four win haul at Newcastle. Lee outlines his trackwork and barrier trial involvement. He talks of a strong association with the Richard and Will Freedman yard. Lee talks of a casual association with the Waterhouse/Bott stable. He recalls a Newcastle win on a horse destined for Derby success a few weeks later. He talks of his connection with the Kris Lees stable. Lee recalls the support he received from Blake Shinn in his early days in Sydney. As a regular at the Saturday Kembla and Newcastle meetings, Lee says he's formed strong camaraderie with a group of fellow riders. It's a laid back chat with a genial Irishman who followed his instincts after leaving the place of his birth.

Brian Walshe was sentenced today to life in prison without parole for the murder of his wife Ana Walshe. Judge Diane Freniere called his actions "barbaric and incomprehensible" before handing down the maximum sentence on all counts — life for murder, plus consecutive terms for misleading police and illegally disposing of Ana's body. Ana Walshe, a 39-year-old mother of three and real estate executive, was last seen alive on New Year's Eve 2022 at the couple's Cohasset, Massachusetts home. Her body has never been recovered. What investigators did find was a digital trail that sealed Brian's fate: Google searches for "how to dispose of a body," "hacksaw best tool to dismember," and "can you be charged with murder without a body" — all made in the hours after Ana's presumed death. Surveillance footage captured Brian shopping for hacksaws, Tyvek suits, and cleaning supplies on New Year's Day. He paid cash. Wore a mask and gloves. Then he disposed of evidence in dumpsters across the region, including one near his mother's apartment. Investigators recovered Ana's blood-soaked belongings, a hacksaw with bone fragments, and pieces of carpet with her DNA embedded in the fibers. Brian never took the stand. His defense called zero witnesses. The jury deliberated six hours and returned a guilty verdict on first-degree murder. Today, Ana's sister Aleksandra delivered a devastating victim impact statement, telling the court her family lives with "an unbearable emptiness." The Walshe children — ages 2, 4, and 6 when their mother was killed — are now in state custody and will grow up without her. Some critics, atheistic, even go so far as to call the crucifixion and the shedding of blood:BARBARIC.They go back to the Old Testament, to the very book of Genesis, where there was a sacrifice of an animal, the shedding of that animal's blood as atonement, remission for sins, declaring that to be barbaric as well. But, again, for Christians, without the shedding of blood, the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, there is no remission for sins, none at all. Sin and blood, and of course crucifixion, say the natural man and woman, is ridiculous mythology and stokes the passions of these anti-Christians in this day and age, perhaps as never before.But sin, the coming short of the glory of God is indeed a reality. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last week, just two weeks ahead of the studio's return to San Diego Comic Con and the release of their sole theatrical outing for the year, Marvel surprised fans by releasing the teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Clocking in at just under two minutes, this first look is chock full of characters, set pieces and action, with a tense political atmosphere on display that certainly harkens back to 2014's much beloved The Winter Soldier. Marvel Animation has clearly found a voice they have a lot of confidence in, as What If…? series writer Matthew Chauncey has been hired to write the third season of X-Men '97. He replaces Beau DeMayo who wrote the incredibly well received first season of the animated revival as well as the yet to air second season, before being infamously fired by Disney ahead of the show's premiere. Chauncey previously stepped up into a leadership position when he replaced What If…?'s A.C. Bradley as the head writer for season 3. Beau DeMayo received a lot of retroactive praise for not shying away from social issues and commentary with his first season of X-Men '97. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy's career seems to continue to be on the upswing, as his Star Wars film locked down a writer, Levy's frequent collaborator, Jonathan Tropper. Tropper wrote 2022's The Adam Project and is well established in the TV world, having created both Warrior and Banshee, as well as working as the showrunner for Apple TV's See. There are a lot of Star Wars films in the works these days, many of which were announced prior to Levy's and have yet to receive such significant updates. Despicable Me 4 held the top spot at the box office last weekend, becoming the first animated franchise to cross the $5 billion threshold. Newcomer Longlegs took second place with an impressive $22.6 million debut, setting a record for indie distributor Neon. Warner Brothers and Paramount have unveiled the first trailer for Watchmen Chapter 1, the first of two upcoming animated films set to release digitally on August 13th. The voice cast features Matthew Rhys as Nite Owl, Katee Sackhoff as the second Silk Spectre, Titus Welliver as Rorshach, and Michael Cerveris as Doctor Manhattan, among other notable actors. Michael Bay is in talks to direct Barbaric, a fantasy series for Netflix based on the Vault Comics title. It will star Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart with X-Men First Class screenwriter Sheldon Turner writing and executive producing the series. Prime Video has ordered The Greatest, a limited series about Muhammad Ali from executive producers Michael B. Jordan and Ben Watkins with Jaalen Best starring as Ali. It is the first authorized scripted series with access to Ali's estate. Apple TV+ released a teaser for Severance Season 2, which premieres on January 17 and will include 10 episodes that release on Fridays weekly. A prequel series to Martin, the show that ran on Fox from 1992 to 1997 and starred Martin Lawrence is in development and will be titled Young Martin. Lawrence's production company RunTelDat will produce. Filming on Euphoria's third season is slated to begin in January 2025 — just about three years after the premiere of season two. HBO says all of the principal cast is set to return, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer. Shelley Duvall who starred in seven films directed by her mentor, Robert Altman and is best known for her role in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, died last Thursday. She was 75. Shannen Doherty, who starred on Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, has died after a long battle with cancer. She was 53. On Monday, Netflix released a behind the scenes video of production of the final season of Stranger Things featuring looks at the set, returning cast, and new characters. The series is currently expected to debut sometime in 2025.
