Plunging deep into the uncanny borderlands between science fiction and horrorPlease welcome Zac Thompson, your sixth time on the show! To start, Cemetery Kids Don't Die is out February 20th, blending a 21st century future, with a gaming system called Dreamwave. Where did the idea for this series start?Cemetery Kids Don't Die is such a great title, did you have it settled right off the bat or did it come organically as you were crafting the story? There's an organic nature to Dreamwave, it looks like a creature you put on your head, how important was it for you to have an organic approach to this tech?Without knowing the dangers of Dreamwave, would you boot up into a system like this one?Dreamwave feels like an organic (sorry for the pun) direction for a game like Baldurs Gate 3 to evolve into, how much research went into gaming be it RPGs and fantasy to develop this story?Back in December AIPT exclusively revealed designs by Daniel Irizarri. Can you talk about the process of crafting the looks of the in game characters and the characters playing the game?I think fans of D&D will love this, there's a heavy vibe of that going on, do you play D&D and if so, what's your favorite character class? You've talked before on this show about your mood board, what sort of movies, tv, or comics did you have up while writing this series? If Cemetery Kids Don't Die was a song what would it be and why?Zac, do you have any other projects you'd like to plug today?

A thriller, what made you take this angle on Duke?Tom, there's a lot on your plate, from recreating classic vehicles to possibly updating costumes and looks. What has been the most fun to take on?Probably an impossible question, but did you have a favorite GI Joe growing up?There's a definitive color story going on here via Jordie Bellaire, the crips oranges lend a certain feel. What is the team going for with how this book is colored? The GI Joe haters might say, “this property is just a bunch of human soldiers without powers running around.” What do you say to them? It's well known at this point the Decepticons will be acquiring energy via Cobra, or in some capacity that is what's going on. It's early yet, but how do you integrate a multi-story robot into a gritty espionage story like Duke?

My guest this week is an old friend. I first met Tim Sheridan about a decade ago, when we were both writers trying to figure out how to make a living doing what we loved. Well, it took some time, but we both figured it out. Today, Tim's the celebrated writer of major movies and comics, from Justice League to He-Man and Transformers and Batman and Superman. His latest series is Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, which explores the story of a superhero hiding his homosexuality in the 1940s.We'll have that conversation in a minute. First, a couple quick reminders, starting with a heads-up that my new video about the rise and fall and resurrection of 1950s heartthrob Tab Hunter is now up on YouTube! And I hope you'll join me for weekly livestreams over on Twitch every Sunday afternoon. With Thanksgiving fast approaching, this weekend we'll be watching a bunch of classic Thanksgiving-themed sitcom episodes. That's at twitch.tv/mattbaume, Sunday at noon pacific, 3pm eastern. And if you haven't yet, take a look at my new book about the history of queer characters on American sitcoms, Hi Honey, I'm Homo! — available now wherever books are sold. Go to gaysitcoms.com for details and to get a signed copy.Big thanks to everyone who makes all my work possible on Patreon — visit patreon.com/mattbaume to support Sewers of Paris and get patron-exclusive benefits.

The reviews are in and Alan Scott: Green Lantern is scoring high marks across comics reviewers, for context, how long has this first issue been in the works? What made using Hoover so important for your story?10 minutesI found the first issue incredibly impactful, from the care and love Alan and his boyfriend show each other to the cruel world he must navigate, how do you balance writing a story about a gay man in the 40s with superhero heroics?Cian, last we spoke you talkeJonas Scharfd about loving to draw boats and lo and behold, you're drawing plenty in this first issue! What has been the most rewarding thing about drawing this series so far?Your story is taking place in the 40s DC universe, how much room do you have to play, considering a single choice could affect the universe going forward?Red Lanterns are relatively new in the grand scheme of things and yet…might your story be rewriting the appearance of Red Lanterns? Is there pressure in delivering on that front? Will you continue to plumb moments in Alan's life in each issue, or will the narrative be more linear going forward? The legacy of Green Lantern is growing thanks to you guys, do you have a favorite Green Lantern story arc?Alan Scott - have you changed your opinion of the character? The anti-gay backlash has been disgusting and I understand you're giving your royalties to the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Tim.
