Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we finish our series on Deadly Premonition. We talk a bit about the main story, the life sim, how we get around and more before turning to takeaways. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: To Ch 21 (Tim) and only Ch 8 (Brett) Issues covered: Cry-baby Timothy, pre-show announcements, the game coming more quickly at the end, prime time television and Twin Peaks, describing an actual puzzle, the feeling of a web of connections between people both surface and hidden, the Ingram twins and their grandfather and Kaysen, dialogue with characters on their life sim paths, having the spatial awareness of the town vs not in television, you get to live in the town, the limitations of the driving model, wanting a simpler driving model, having conversation while the character is being driven instead, an unpolished gem, when time pauses vs when it will advance and keeping you unsettled, dealing with open world games with day/night cycles and running into the time problem, being unclear what other games this inspired, a different kind of mature, leaning into the quirk (and your constraints), stunt comedy, not getting enough of this sort of game, integrating the player into the town, inspirations with a twist. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Video Game History Foundation, Rocksmith, Twin Peaks, David Lynch, Mark Frost, Resident Evil, Yakuza (series), Breaking Bad, The Last of Us, Nick Offerman, Gilmore Girls, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, L. A. Noire, Mars Attacks, GTA 3, Shenmue, Dungeons & Dragons, Tolkien, Star Wars, Alien, Blade Runner, Artimage, Cult of the Lamb, Angie Nash, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Woah. This week's film is full of famous stars and stereotypes. What would today's version of head exploding music be? Is it safe to say the translator machine doesn't work? Does anyone know more than one Tom Jones song? Let's head back together to the 90's, or is the 70's?
Tonight we're diving into the gothic playground of Tim Burton — a director whose fingerprints are carved deep into American pop culture. From Edward Scissorhands, Burton's bittersweet suburban fairy tale about isolation and artistry, to Mars Attacks!, his anarchic send-up of mid-century sci-fi and political hubris, and finally Dark Shadows, his nostalgic monster mash of style over sincerity — this lineup traces the arc of a filmmaker both trapped and liberated by his own aesthetic. It's a look at how Burton went from misunderstood romantic to self-parody, and how, even now, his best work still feels like the dream of an outcast who never quite came down.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Fresh off the flesh, the steaks deliver themselves on the latest episode of The Rewatch Party. Elise left Nick, Anthony, and Manny to their own devices and they're taking on Tim Burton's 1996 sci-fi masterpiece(?): Mars Attacks!, a film pitched on a series of random alien trading cards that somehow landed a spect-ack-ack-ack-ular cast. Debate the film's minimal box office profit margin, uncover the origin of the iconic martian “ack ack ack”, and a walk down memory lane to the days of Blockbuster, Hastings, and the noody aisle. So ultimately is this a misunderstood masterpiece or a total misfire fit only for TRUE pokemon nerds like Geoff? Only one way to settle it. Tune in and ack ack ack like you mean it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116996/
Some comedy duos make us laugh until our sides hurt, others tug at our heartstrings, and a few are just so iconic they make us wish we could join the adventure. This week on No More Late Fees, Jackie and Danielle are joined by their pal and Jackie's work bestie, Andrew, for a nostalgic Insert Tape bonus episode filled with movie trivia, behind-the-scenes facts, and hilarious hot takes. The trio debates their favorite comedy duos of all time—think Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan in Rush Hour, Anna Faris & Regina Hall in Scary Movie, and Chris Farley & David Spade in Tommy Boy. Along the way, they mix in pop culture side quests from Netflix's Wednesday and Big Brother to wild tangents about Jason Momoa, Vin Diesel, and dream casting themselves into comedy team-ups. Andrew also shares his official Employee Picks, stocking the Blockbuster shelves with his must-have trio: Biodome, Rush Hour, and Mars Attacks.Packed with fandom deep cuts, character banter, and witty commentary, this episode is perfect for anyone who grew up renting tapes, quoting 90s comedies, and arguing about which duo really deserves the crown. If you love what you hear, don't forget to subscribe, rate, and leave us a review—it helps other nostalgic movie fans find the show! ACK ACK!! Mars Attacks Full Movie Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Aparrel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ With Tim Burton returning to Netflix for Wednesday Season 2, Coy & Aaron RETURN to give their Mars Attacks Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Full Movie Spoiler Review!! Coy Jandreau & Aaron Alexander react to Tim Burton's zany and satirical 1996 sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! — a cult classic that blends alien invasion mayhem with over-the-top performances and Burton's signature visual flair. Based on the 1962 Topps trading card series, the film follows a global crisis as Earth is visited by Martians whose intentions are anything but peaceful. Despite humanity's best diplomatic efforts, the aliens launch a chaotic and comedic war on Earth, resulting in outrageous destruction and unforgettable moments. Featuring an all-star ensemble cast, Mars Attacks! stars Jack Nicholson (The Shining, Batman) in a dual role as President James Dale and Vegas tycoon Art Land, Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmatians) as First Lady Marsha Dale, Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right) as a New Age-obsessed gambler's wife, and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, The Thomas Crown Affair) as pompous scientist Professor Donald Kessler. Also starring are Danny DeVito (Batman Returns), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City), Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Star Wars), Jim Brown (The Dirty Dozen), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Tom Jones (yes, that Tom Jones), and more. Famous scenes include the Martians' deceptive “We come in peace” moment, the destruction of major landmarks like the White House, and the hilariously bizarre finale where Slim Whitman's yodeling proves to be humanity's secret weapon. With its unique blend of retro sci-fi homage, biting political satire, and offbeat humor, Mars Attacks! remains one of Tim Burton's most wildly imaginative and divisive films. Welcome to Movie Mandates, a review show in which sibling cinephiles Andrew and Keleigh force each other to watch movies according to a monthly theme! We're wrapping up "As Bad As We Remember?" month with Keleigh's mandated movie: Mars Attacks! We saw this in the theater back when it came out and found it so tonally removed from what the marketing had promised that neither of us liked it. Years later, knowing what the film's tone and sense of humor was, I found I appreciated it more but my sister hasn't seen it since that initial screening, nearly 30 years ago. Will knowing what kind of movie she's in for change her opinion? Only 37 ways to find out and one of them is listening to this podcast! 0:00 - Trivial Trivia 14:18 - Mars Attacks! review 59:31 - Next episode's mandated movie We'll be back in two weeks with another mandated movie. Join Coy Jandreau & Andrew Gordon as they plunge into The Running Man (1987), Paul Michael Glaser's dystopian sci-fi action thriller based on Stephen King's novel. Facing foes like the patriotic Captain Freedom (Jesse Ventura, Predator, Commando), the explosive Fireball (Jim Brown, The Dirty Dozen, Mars Attacks!), and the razor-bladed Buzzsaw (Erland Van Lidth, Star Trek VI), Richards must survive the arena and outsmart ruthless host Damon Killian (Richard Dawson, Family Feud, Herschel in Cool as Ice). For the final chapter of Disaster Month, we're beaming up to one of the weirdest alien invasion movies ever: Mars Attacks! (1996). This star-studded satire directed by Tim Burton packs in lasers, skeletons, and Slim Whitman—all with a wink to 1950s B-movies. But… does it actually hold together, or is it just chaos in a red-and-green package? We break down the over-the-top performances, bizarre plot choices, and the ridiculous number of celebrity cameos (Jack Nicholson, twice?!). Plus, we debate if the film is missing something essential, like, say, actual jokes. Is Mars Attacks! too scattered to be a true classic, or is it exactly the kind of weird that makes it unforgettable?

With the long weekend coming up, and Summer just around the corner, we thought it might be fun to cover a film that evokes vibes of late night drive-ins and Sci Fi blockbusters. Tim Burton's 1996 version of space invaders turns the first contact trope on its head. It is mercilessly satirical and simultaneously hilarious. It features a cast of many A-listers (Burton wished he could have had more), and some of what we think is the best cinematic use of CGI compared to other films of the era. Strap in for some fun and many senseless tangents. ACK! ACK! to you all.
Mars Attacks! Of course a film like this was Daniel's choice. A dumb film...a fun enjoyable silly dumb film. Come listen to Andrew's amazing ACK ACK ACK alien impression! 29mins
Movie of the Year: 1996Independence Day Movie of the Year is the podcast that dares to ask: What is the best movie of any given year? In this episode, we turn our telescopes to the stars and our speakers to eleven as we revisit the 1996 cinematic spectacle, Independence Day. Packed with aliens, explosions, and patriotic fervor, this sci-fi blockbuster defined summer movies for a generation. But does it hold up today?Join the panel as we explore the legacy of Independence Day, its place in the science fiction genre, its portrayal of American values, and how it frames masculinity in the 1990s.Independence Day as 90s Science FictionIs Independence Day just a popcorn flick, or does it deserve a spot among sci-fi classics? The hosts unpack the movie's use of classic alien invasion tropes, its reliance on 90s tech optimism, and the impact of its genre-blending tone. From Area 51 to cable viruses, Independence Day reflects a distinctly 90s approach to science fiction—where spectacle meets paranoia, and where heroes can be hackers, pilots, or presidents.America and Independence Day: Patriotism on the Big ScreenFew films wear their nationalism on their sleeve quite like Independence Day. In this section, the Taste Buds explore how the movie functions as a patriotic narrative, complete with presidential speeches, flags in the rubble, and international unity under American leadership. They also compare Independence Day to other patriotic blockbusters of the era, questioning whether its celebration of American ideals is sincere, ironic, or somewhere in between. If you're interested in similar themes, check out our Mars Attacks! episode for a different take on 1996's alien obsession.Masculinity in Independence Day: Fathers, Fighters, and FlyboysWhat does it mean to be a man in Independence Day? The film features a wide array of male archetypes—from the stoic President Whitmore to the wisecracking Captain Hiller and the redemption-seeking Russell Casse. We break down the film's representation of masculinity in the context of 1990s culture, focusing on themes like emotional repression, heroism, sacrifice, and fatherhood. These depictions reflect both the expectations and anxieties of American men in the late 20th century, and the movie's lasting popularity suggests they still resonate today.Final Verdict: Is This the Movie of the Year? There's no denying Independence Day was the biggest movie of 1996. But is it the best? The hosts evaluate the film's legacy, critical reception, and cultural footprint. How does it compare to fellow 1996 heavyweights like Fargo, Trainspotting, or Scream?By the end of the episode, we'll know if Independence Day still deserves a place at the top—or if it's simply a nostalgic relic of the blockbuster boom.WANT TO HEAR MORE?For more 1996 alien attacks, listen to our Mars Attacks episode! For more Will Smith kicking butt, check out our episode on Bad Boys 4 Life! For more goofy Jeff Goldblum trying to save the world, download our Nashville episode! In this episode I sit down with actor, magician, and podcast host Steve Valentine. We go way back to my Vegas days, and it's been incredible to see his career evolve. Best known for his role as Nigel Townsend on Crossing Jordan, Steve has also appeared in Mars Attacks!, Spider-Man 3, and voiced characters in Dragon Age and Uncharted 2. Beyond acting, he's an acclaimed magician who has performed at the legendary Magic Castle and now explores the art of illusion on his podcast, Magicians Only. We dive into what people misunderstand about magic, the surprising parallels between acting and performing illusions, and how he's reinvented himself in Hollywood. If you've ever been curious about the magic behind the curtain—both literal and metaphorical—this is an episode you won't want to miss!Want to advertise on our show? On the evening of October 30th, 1938, the CBS Radio Network broadcasted Orson Welles's live adaptation of the 1897 HG Wells classic, groundbreaking sci-fi novel, The War of the Worlds, all across America. And those who paid close attention knew it was fiction. But thousands and thousands of others who didn't... literally thought the US was currently being invaded and attacked by hostile, killer aliens from Mars and fellow citizens were dying in droves. They panicked and true pandemonium ensued! For Merch and everything else Bad Magic related, head to: https://www.badmagicproductions.com
