Books That Make You Try to Escape the Maze As a #1 New York Times bestselling author, James Dashner is perhaps best known for his YA “Maze Runner” series, though he is also the author of the bestselling “Mortality Doctrine” series, which includes The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts, and The Game of Lives. 2014 saw the release of a film adaptation of The Maze Runner, followed by another two films in 2015 and 2018. Altogether, the three films raked in almost a billion dollars. The three films' collective box-office earnings make it the fourth highest-grossing film series based on young-adult books, after those of Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games. Born and raised in Georgia, Dashner now lives and writes in the Rocky Mountains with his wife and their four children. The House of Tongues, his new adult horror novel, was inspired by the stories his family told of their run-in with a serial killer. As his adult fiction debut, Tongues also represents his first crossover into screenwriting. Dashner enjoys the creativity and freedom allowed by writing in different genres and media, and has numerous stories slated ahead for the page and the screen. Find out more on Books That Make You. Hear ye, hear ye! It's time for a brand new minisode! And this week Please Make This host Laura is sitting down with her YA, We Read It! co-host Meggie to watch the movie version of The Maze Runner -- the book they read for their 7th season. Will the movie hold a candle to the book and be a worthy adaptation? Or will Meggie and Laura rip it to shreds? Tune in as these two (and Laura's boyfriend Nick who's never read any of the books) dissect the 2014 film
Laura has once again been inspired to dive into the world of YA fan-fiction! Inspired by the completion of their most recent season of YA, We Read It! where they read The Maze Runner trilogy, comes Welcome to The Glade. A story that exists completely outside the world of the original books (while maintaining the same setting and characters). Instead of a dystopian fight for your life and find a cure for The Flare, the Maze is the setting for television's most popular dating show: Welcome to The Glade. Teresa is about to enter into her very own season of the hit show after being a fan-favorite finalist on a previous season, but even she isn't prepared for what the producers have in store.
You might be thinking The Kill Order would refer to a particular ranking of who needs to die and when, but after reading this book we can assure you it's not that! This week Meggie and Laura are joined by their dear friend Nate Todd in this very special episode of reading James Dashner's prequel. Long before the maze trials, Solar Flares ravaged the Earth and threatened humanity as we know it. And through a few bad calls by the government The Flare was unleashed on what little survivors were left, and, well, you know this ends poorly because this is a prequel. Tune in as your hosts discuss a new cast of characters and the many, many, many action scenes that grace the pages of this book.
Alright shuckfaces and slintheads, listen up: Season 7 starts now! Your resident Keepers Laura & Meggie are racing through James Dashner's The Maze Runner trilogy and no one can stop them! This 2009 YA novel tells the story of Thomas who wakes up with no memories in a teen-boys-only society, The Glade, that's surrounded by a massive maze that no one can solve. No one remembers how they got there, where they came from, or even how to get out -- all they know is that when a girl finally shows up it probably can't be good. (Spoiler: it isn't). The Gathering starts now, press play already!!!

Jemisin (at very different points in the book) and all the ways Jemisin expertly builds the world of the Stillness (through language, mythology, science, and culture). BONUS: The VirtNet Diaries (Episode 18 Bonus Clip) Just when you thought you couldn't get enough of The AMPire Diaries, The AMPire Diaries decided to give you a b-b-b-bonus clip! Because Episode 18 (covering “Daddy Issues” and “Crying Wolf”) just wasn't long enough. In that episode, Morgan brought up a book series from James Dashner, author of the Maze Runner book series. Well, in this bonus clip, Morgan does a deep dive into these books, while LaToya and Jill… well, they just listen. We know, we know: You didn't ask for this. (Unless you've listened to Episode 18 already. Then you get the joke we just made there.)
