From Book 1: An aging priest in rural Wisconsin gives an impassioned Christmas homily condemning abortion as murder and exhorting his parishioners to stop it. A former mayor responds by starting a hunger strike in city hall, and the editor of the local weekly newspaper begins running a counter at the top of each edition that estimates the number of abortions performed since Roe v Wade. A third member of the congregation takes a more lethal approach and begins to target reproductive rights physicians for murder. Cole Huebsch is a pro-life leaning Milwaukee FBI agent. Michele Fields is a pro-choice leaning reporter. They need to set aside their differences to catch the killer before the country is torn apart. The Killer Sermon is a fast moving thriller that reminds us that our words matter, and that regardless of how big our differences on divisive issues, we can still find respect, and maybe more…Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. The second half of season 2 is all about the view from the bottom: what does it feel like to fail, and more importantly, how do you come back from it? We're creating a safe space for women tech leaders to talk about the worst day of their career — a project gone wrong, a lay-off that came out of nowhere, a startup that shutdown — and how they got through it. Because we never learned anything from the days it all went right.  To kick off this series, Better Allies® series Author and former Adobe VP of Engineering, Karen Catlin joins Brenda to talk about a rocky transition she made from the corporate world to self-employment. Karen had a reality check when she left her cushy VP job at Adobe to start her own coaching company for women in tech. After making only $17,000 her first year (a far cry from her goal of $10K per month), she was embarrassed, and ready to call it quits. But with some encouragement from her husband and mentors, she saw it through, and has since become an accomplished author, speaker and coach on creating inclusive workspaces.  You'll learn how to see things through even when you feel like you failed, the power of a good ‘mentor walk,' and how naivete can sometimes be a blessing in disguise when taking a big risk. 'I didn't just want to do a sort of 'me-too' series just for the sake of it. I wanted to have a series concept that I could really get excited about and which would stand out in quite a crowded marketplace as offering something different.' This week, we're flipping the script a bit. Normally, I'd be bringing you an engaging conversation with a business book author, but this week we're exploring an origin story—one that gives you an insight into the inner workings of publishing as an industry and an individual publisher's mind. A successful book series is the closest thing we have to magic in publishing magic. But how do you go about finding the right concept in a crowded marketplace? Here's how our new 6-Minute Smarts series came about, from a series of conversations at Frankfurt to a 30,000-foot exploratory writing sprint to launch.  Whether you're a reader, an aspiring author, or simply curious about the publishing world, this episode offers insights and inspiration that you won't want to miss.

In the second chapter of "Hidden Heritage," we get a deeper sense of the life of Paul LaRoche, as written by Barbara Marshak and narrated by Paul himself. The episode explores the struggles Paul faces while living a life devoid of passion and music, conforming to societal norms of career and family. However, an emptiness persists, leading him to consider searching for his biological family. With the support of his wife Kathy, Paul embarks on a journey to uncover his roots. They stumble upon adoption papers that serve as a missing piece in the puzzle of Paul's heritage. As Yvonne, his cousin, investigates, she uncovers unexpected revelations, tracing Paul's lineage back to the LaRoche family. With conversations unfolding and emotions running high, Paul faces the complex possibilities of meeting his biological family, including a newly discovered brother and his true biological Lakota Heritage. This chapter captures the emotional turmoil and the hope intertwined in the quest for identity, heritage, and belonging.

"Parenting is not just a role; it's a profound influence that shapes the heart and soul of a home. We promise you'll gain invaluable insights from JR Miller's "Homemaking" as we discuss parenting's pivotal role in nurturing a loving and Christ-like environment. We challenge the cultural norm of outsourcing parental duties, emphasizing the irreplaceable value of being present and intentional in our children's growth and education. By prioritizing character development over merely enforcing good behavior, we explore how parents can truly transform their homes into sanctuaries of growth and love.Transitioning from living for oneself to dedicating life to raising children can be an emotional journey filled with silent struggles and unspoken triumphs. We candidly address the tension between nurturing children and maintaining one's identity, acknowledging the shame and sadness that sometimes accompanies this shift. Through personal reflections and cultural insights, we aim to lift the veil on these struggles, sharing a poignant image of unseen support in the form of angels completing a weary parent's work. Accepting our imperfections while striving to do our best is a recurring theme, offering comfort and understanding to parents navigating this complex journey.A nurturing home environment goes beyond aesthetics, involving active engagement and shared experiences that build treasured memories. We highlight the significance of fathers actively participating in their children's lives and the power of simple courtesies and affection in family interactions. The dynamics between parents significantly influence children's behavior, and we advocate for an atmosphere of love and cultural enrichment within the home. Excitingly, we ponder the idea of involving children in future segments, especially with Wendell's anticipated enthusiasm, leaving us eager for the joyful possibilities this could bring to our discussions."Find the book Home-Making by J.R.
