Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Don't feed the animals… you ever see that video where a guy gets out of his car to feed a bear, all the while his wife is video taping it. The bear seems harmless enough… he's been around people at Yellowstone for years… should be ok… He fed the bear alright… yea, he fed the bear. Words are animals… some animals are good, some are bad and some are like cats they don't much care on way or the other… but mostly they are good or bad. Here is a line you should memorize. Don't speak it unless you want to give it power. Words are food… If you are feeling down, doubtful, lonely, depressed, ashamed, like a loser whatever it is… if you speak those feelings you feed those feelings and they get stronger and overtake you… in fact they are faith filled words of defeat. Or if you feel any of those things but you instead speak words of faith, financial gain, hope, life, love, passion, dreams, you are starving your feelings and feeding faith filled words to your victory. If you learn to feed the right words you will starve the doubts and feed the power of faith. Here are some key biblical teachings on the power of the tongue: 1. Life and Death: Proverbs 18:21: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." This verse powerfully summarizes the dual nature of words, indicating that our speech can literally bring about positive or negative outcomes in our lives and the lives of others. If words have the power of life and death… don't you think they also have the power of success, health and wealth. They have the power to motivate you to action… Look life and death are pretty heavy hitters, but if words can handle them, then words can handle just about anything. 2. A Small Spark, A Great Fire: James 3:5-6: "So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness." This passage uses the vivid imagery of a small spark igniting a massive forest fire to illustrate how a seemingly insignificant tongue can cause widespread destruction and harm. But lets look at it in a different light. What if words destroy doubt, pain, hopelessness, loneliness… words can destroy good things, but they can also destroy bad things… it is up to you to speak the right words according to scripture and not your circumstances. 3. Healing and Hurting: Proverbs 12:18: "There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." This proverb contrasts the pain inflicted by thoughtless or angry words with the restorative power of wise and gentle speech. Proverbs 15:4: "A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit." A gentle and kind tongue provides nourishment and encouragement, while harsh or corrupting speech can crush someone's spirit. Again the point here is sometimes missed - you can heal or hurt yourself according to your words… who needs anyone else's words… why are you waiting for someone else to speak love life and Gods word over your life… you speak it! 4. Building Up or Tearing Down: Ephesians 4:29: "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." This verse encourages believers to use their words constructively, to edify and support others, rather than engaging in destructive or unwholesome talk. The message is clear ONLY SPEAK WORDS THAT BUILD UP! 5. Accountability for Every Word: Matthew 12:36-37: "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." Jesus himself warns of the serious accountability we have for our words, even those spoken carelessly, highlighting their eternal consequences. I THINK ACCOUNTABLILITY FOR OUR WORDS WILL SIMPLY BE US STANDING THERE AND GOD LOOKING OVER OUR LIFE… IT WILL SHOW PLAINLY AND CLEARLY THE WORDS THAT CAME OUT OF OUR MOUTH. **Check it out. Words created our life…. Its not life that created our words. Chew on that skippy! In all of these verses one thing is abundantly clear- it is our words that have the most power over our life… not anyone else's. So meditate on Gods word and speak it over your life.

Are you interested in urban expansion shifts across 3 decades? Summary of the article titled Global urban structure growth shows a profound shift from spreading out to building up from 2024, by Steve Frolking, Richa Mahtta, Tom Milliman, Thomas Esch, and Karen C. Seto, published in the Nature Cities journal. This is a great preparation to our next interview with Keller Easterling in episode 342 talking about spatial politics and urban infrastructure.Since we are investigating the future of cities, I thought it would be interesting to see global urban structural growth across time and its implications. This article introduces the shift from horizontal to vertical expansion and its effects on resource use, climate and urban living.Find the article through this link.Abstract: We present a new study examining the dynamics of global urban building growth rates over the past three decades. By combining datasets for 1,550+ cities from several space-borne sensors—data from three scatterometers and settlement-built fraction based on Landsat-derived data—we find profound shifts in how cities expanded from the 1990s to the 2010s. Cities had both increasing building fractional cover and increasing microwave backscatter (correlating with building volume), but over the three decades, growth rates in building fraction decreased in most regions and large cities, while growth rates in backscatter increased in essentially all regions and cities. The divergence in rates of increase of these metrics indicates a shift from lateral urban expansion to more vertical urban development. This transition has happened in different decades and to different extents across the world's cities. Growth rate increases were largest in Asian cities. This shift toward vertical development has profound consequences for material and energy use, local climate and urban living.Connecting episodes you might be interested in:No.205R - Role of urban planning standards in improving lifestyle in a sustainable systemNo.289R - A fresh look at contemporary perspectives on urban housing affordabilityYou can find the transcript through this link. What was the most interesting part for you? As we continue our A City of Light series through 1 Corinthians, we reach Paul's final and most practical instruction on the use of spiritual gifts in the church. In chapter 14, Paul emphasizes a truth we cannot afford to miss: God's gifts are powerful—but they must be used with purpose, humility, and order.Paul's concern isn't to shut down the gifts because of misuse, but to pastor the church into maturity. The goal? That everything in our gatherings be done for the building up of the body of Christ.

There are two distinct kingdoms—the Kingdom of God (Light) and the Kingdom of Darkness. As Christians we have been purchased and rescued from the Kingdom of Darkness and now are citizens and ambassadors of the Kingdom of Light. In this study, Nathan discusses three key contrasts between the two kingdoms and how we are not to participate in the deeds of darkness, even though we are called to proclaim light and truth amidst this dark world.

Paul makes a grand statement in Ephesians 5:8–10 that while we were once of the darkness, now we are light in Christ Jesus, the Light Himself. And as children of the light, we bear the fruit of His life (namely goodness, righteousness, and truth). Then Paul says that we are to discover what is pleasing to the Lord. In this study, we examine what it means to discern and test things to see if they are pleasing to the Lord, two ways our lives are proven as pleasing, and how we are to live in this incredible new reality.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/

After describing some aspects of the darkness—sexual immorality, impurity, greed, idolatry, and filthy/foolish talk—Paul says that while these things may have defined our lives in the past, we are not to continue partaking of them. In Christ Jesus, we have been set free from the authority of darkness and are now in Christ Jesus who is the Light; therefore, we must walk as children of light. In this study, we examine Ephesians 5:7–8 and ask the question “whose side are we on?”—in other words, are we going to continue to live in sin and darkness, or are we going to live in the Light of Jesus?------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
Our modern culture celebrates ungodliness and sinful behavior—and it has seeped into the Church where leaders are encouraging Christians to live however they want and indulge in every kind of sin. But Paul warns in Ephesians 5:6 that we are not to be deceived by the “empty words” of people who endorse the things God has called sin. In this study, Nathan examines Paul's warning, and reminds us that because a judgment is coming, we must take sin seriously.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/
When we first come to Christ, we are saved by His grace, through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9). Our salvation is not of ourselves, it is the work and gift of God on our behalf. Yet, strangely, for many Christians, once we are saved through faith, we attempt to live the Christian life in our own strength, ability, wisdom, and resource—we try to be godly, holy, righteous, and pure. But the reality of the Christian life is that we are to ALWAYS live by faith in Christ. The only way we will ever experience freedom, victory, and triumph over sin is when we live by faith in Jesus alone. In this study, Nathan talks about what faith is, how it functions, why it is necessary, and how it applies to Ephesians 5:3–5 in the area of sexuality, purity, and freedom from sin.

Paul does not back down when it comes to those who want to live a life of sexual immorality and impurity—those who continue to practice such a perverse life of idolatry will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
