The government-backed intelligence apparatus designed to clone American technology has strengthened Chinese competition across all industries and, most notably, enabled advances in military hardware, microchips, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications. In his newest book, The Great Heist: China's Epic Campaign to Steal America's Secrets (Harper Collins, 2025), David Shedd, with Andrew Badger, exposes the CCP's campaign and presents a counterstrategy informed by his distinguished career in intelligence. But what exactly are they stealing and how are they carrying it out? Why is the IC so silent on this? And why do we insist on bringing more Chinese nationals into our universities? David Shedd is the former deputy director and acting director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). He also served as chief of staff for the director of national intelligence and National Security Council senior director and as special assistant to the president for intelligence under George W. Bush. He began his intelligence career in 1982 immediately after his studies at Geneva College and Georgetown University, and served nearly thirty-three years in a number of capacities in the DNI, National Security Council, CIA, and in U.S. embassies overseas. En España existen varios cuerpos de seguridad. Cada comunidad autónoma o cada ciudad tiene su propia policía. Pero a nivel nacional, para todo el país, tenemos dos cuerpos de seguridad, la Guardia Civil y la Policía Nacional. Y aunque ambos tienen como objetivo garantizar la seguridad ciudadana, sus funciones presentan algunas diferencias. Guardia Civil La Guardia Civil es un cuerpo militar de seguridad pública que fue fundado en el siglo XIX y tiene presencia en todo el territorio español. Funciones principales: Control del tráfico en carreteras. Vigilancia en zonas rurales. Protección del medio ambiente. Seguridad en fronteras y puertos. Lucha contra el terrorismo y el crimen organizado. Policía Nacional La Policía Nacional es un cuerpo civil que también depende del y su actuación se concentra principalmente en ciudades y núcleos urbanos. Funciones principales: Investigación de delitos (robos, homicidios, estafas…). Control de documentación (DNI, pasaportes). Seguridad en grandes eventos y manifestaciones. Protección de edificios oficiales. Colaboración con Interpol y Europol. Hasta aquí todo claro, ¿verdad? Pues bien, para formar parte de la Guardia Civil o de la Policía Nacional hay que superar unos exámenes a los que se presentan miles de personas, porque si los apruebas ya tienes un trabajo para toda la vida, un trabajo de funcionario público. Los guardias civiles y los policías nacionales son funcionarios del estado, y nunca son despedidos, salvo que cometan alguna irregularidad grave, por supuesto. Pero lo normal es que tengan trabajo para toda la vida. Por eso mucha gente quiere ser funcionaria. Rango de edad Intervalo o grupo de edades comprendido entre un mínimo y un máximo. Ejemplos: -El curso está dirigido a personas en el rango de edad de 18 a 30 años. -En el estudio participaron voluntarios de un rango de edad muy amplio, desde adolescentes hasta jubilados. Convocatoria Llamado oficial para participar en un evento, examen, reunión o proceso de selección. Ejemplos: -El ayuntamiento ha publicado una convocatoria para contratar nuevos empleados. -La próxima convocatoria del examen de idiomas será en noviembre. Fiel Que mantiene lealtad o compromiso con algo o alguien. Ejemplos: -Ha sido muy fiel a su rutina de entrenamiento durante todo el año. -A pesar de las dificultades, siguió siendo fiel a sus principios. Repasos Acción de volver a estudiar o revisar algo ya aprendido para recordarlo mejor. Ejemplos: -Antes del examen, hice varios repasos de los temas más difíciles. -El profesor recomendó hacer repasos semanales para no olvidar el contenido.
