We bring in 2017 with our first podcast of the year, a round table discussion on the year that's been and the season to come. Michael and Steve are joined by AFTN writer Jay Duke and Curva Collective's Zachary Meisenheimer to look back at Vancouver Whitecaps 2016 season. Not the happiest year to review we know but we look at what went wrong, some of the big talking points, and what can be learned and needs to be done to make the Whitecaps challengers this season. Did the Whitecaps fail to recover from their bad start? Why did the impact signings not happen and what went wrong with the key players from the year before? Did the Voyageurs Cup loss affect the team? What will Seattle's win mean for Vancouver, if anything? Is MLS success just now all down to money? And if the 'Caps get off to a bad start, how safe is Carl Robinson's job? We discuss all these things and a lot more. There's a lot of New Year chat to be had, so have a listen.

With the MLS schedule out and the signings starting to take shape, it's already getting exciting in Whitecapsland, two months before First Kick. In the last of our three end of season roundtable discussions, AFTN writer Jay Duke, and Curva Collective's Zachary Meisenheimer and Steven Lamothe join your regular podcast co-hosts to look at what Vancouver Whitecaps need to do next, after their best season in MLS so far, to take that next step and raise some silverware. Carl Robinson now has two years under his belt as head coach. We cast a critical eye over his performance and his tactics, formations and man management. Robbo likes his youth but is the team missing some players in their late 20s to add that bit more experienced heads and calming influence at key times? Is there real leadership on the team from captain Pedro Morales? Do the 'Caps need to splash the cash to challenge with the big spenders in the league or risk getting left behind? And with the roster now taking shape, who won't be here come First Kick, are the team too heavy with DMs and how do you get the young homegrowns regular minutes in a pretty set starting line-up? Where will, and what should, the Whitecaps priorities lie for this year ahead and are modern day footballers too pampered and whiny? We chat about all of this and more. Have a listen!

2015 is nearly at an end. Of course for Vancouver Whitecaps, their competitive year came to a shuddering halt in the second week of November. In the second of our three end of season roundtable discussions, AFTN writer Jay Duke, and Curva Collective's Zachary Meisenheimer and Steven Lamothe join your regular podcast co-hosts to look back the 'Caps 2015 season and their first five years in Major League Soccer. This season was the 'Caps best one in the MLS era in many areas. In such a strong Western Conference, did Vancouver punch above their weight or did they finish where they deserved? And despite the successes, was this year a missed opportunity for the Whitecaps? There was a first Voyageurs Cup, a first Champions Leagues campaign and a Western Conference semi-final appearance. But with our Cascadian rivals winning the whole shebang, how much pressure does this and the club's achievements this year put on the Whitecaps going forward? Portland Timbers entered MLS the same year as the Whitecaps, in 2011. Both clubs are now five years into their new eras. The Timbers have won both a Western Conference title and a MLS Cup so far, with the Whitecaps left trailing and trophyless in the league. Just how have those first five years been for Vancouver and what will the next five years hold in store? We chat about all of this and more. Have a listen!

The weekend started off so brightly for us here at AFTN Towers. Both East Fife and Wimbledon got big victories in their respective leagues, but then the Whitecaps took to the pitch. It was a double losing weekend for the 'Caps, with Seattle claiming this year's Cascadia Cup with a 3-0 victory on Saturday and then Austin Aztex coming back from two goals down to beat WFC2 3-2 in USL action on Sunday. That's what you call a bad weekend. We've been playing the Art Brut song of the same name on repeat as a result. Michael and Steve are joined by AFTN writer Jay Duke to look back at the Seattle loss. What went wrong? Were there any positives to take from it? And what does it mean, if anything, for the rest of the season. Episode 85 reunites your usual co-hosts Michael McColl and Steve Pandher, AFTN writer Jay Duke, and Curva Collective's Zachary Meisenheimer and Steven Lamothe, to discuss the latest happenings in Whitecapsland. Last episode was a look back at the season just past, but this week it's time to take a look to the future, as the Famous Five set out to solve some mysteries that would make Enid Blyton proud. The Caps will be announcing what's happening with some of the squad pretty soon, so we take a look at which players we feel should stay and which ones need to be set free. Who earned their corn? Who costs too much money? And which players should Vancouver look to protect in the expansion draft? Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson shares some thoughts on his plans for the upcoming drafts and the chances of Erick Torres landing in Vancouver. With trade talk getting underway throughout MLS, we ponder which players we'd love to see the Caps bring in, and ship out and who has a big part to play in a busy season next year that includes Champions League football for the first time. How will Vancouver fans react to that? Everyone's / no-one's favourite quiz show "30 Seconds To Mars" returns to ask who should partner Laba, Koffie or Teibert? Which young player will break out for the Caps next season? And who should be inducted into the next Ring of Honour? And there's still time to ask, "Do you remember your first time?". Who steps up to fill the void left by the absence of both Kenny Miller and Darren Mattocks? Will the Caps' end their road duck for the season? All this chat and more, and we hear some pregame thoughts from the Caps two centrebacks, Jay DeMerit and Andy O'Brien, and look at the rest of an eventful week in Whitecapsland. And there's still time for Predictapooch to gaze into his crystal bowl and try and break his losing streak.

Episode 20 of "There's Still Time", the AFTN podcast, is another of our popular roundtables. Recorded in two parts, this the second part, the first of which was published as Episode 19 last week. My usual co-host Steve and myself are joined by Zachary Meisenhamer from Curva Collective, long time fan Steven Lamothe and AFTN writer Jay Duke to a lot of Caps and MLS talking points. After looking at the state of the Whitecaps nation last episode, our five man team try and look at where things have gone wrong this season. We turn our attentions to Martin Rennie, what he brings to the Caps and the future of the gaffer and the Whitecaps, this season and beyond. Is he responsible for the Whitecaps' poor recent form or do the players have to shoulder a lot of the responsibility? If Rennie is to be replaced, who are the main candidates out there to take over and will any changes go further up the managerial chain? And there's still time to chat about transparency in MLS, or lack of. So many questions! There's some answers but there's also a lot more debated in amongst it all too, including Bobby Lenarduzzi being compared to your local corner store, David Ferreira to sticking a straw into a cow's neck and what magical shoe purchases can be made with allocation money.

Episode 19 of "There's Still Time", the AFTN podcast, is another of our popular roundtables. Recorded in two parts, the second of which will be up next week, this episode takes a look at the current state of the Vancouver Whitecaps nation. And what a state it seems to be in. More Michigan than California. My usual co-host Steve and myself are joined by Zachary Meisenhamer from Curva Collective, long time fan Steven Lamothe and AFTN writer Jay Duke to discuss the Caps talking points of the week. We have to look back at the loss in Dallas unfortunately. Was it as bad as it first appeared? It seems worse from Martin Rennie's viewpoint, who has totally changed his thoughts about the performance. What was with the team selection and substitutions? Moving on to San Jose, is there still hope that something can be salvaged from this season and what scenarios need to play out for Rennie to still be coach for next season? Who should play, who should be dropped and who wins the Ousted v Knighton v Cannon battle for starting goalkeeper? Will there maybe even be some trades before Friday? How do our panel see the Caps finishing their season? What points total do they need, will they get it and who will fill the top five positions in the West? So many questions! There's some answers but there's also a lot more debated in amongst it all too. And there's still time for the guests to debate three key questions as they hope to win a mars bar in our "30 Seconds To Mars" gameshow.

Episode ten of "There's Still Time", the AFTN podcast, and it's another special roundtable discussion, this time looking at the Voyageurs Cup and a look at what lies ahead this season for Vancouver Whitecaps. Recorded at the Vancouver Alpen Club, we're joined once again by Zachary Meisenheimer and Massimo Cusano, of Whitecaps' supporters' group Curva Collective, and AFTN writer Jay Duke to discuss the highs and lows of Caps season so far. There's lots of chat around the V's Cup final against Montreal, the importance of the Cup and how it's perceived by the general footballing public, and Zach gives us the first hand insight into what it was like addressing the Whitecaps players in the dressing room before the first leg. Moving on from the final, especially for those listening to the podcast after the game, we take a look at what lies ahead for the Whitecaps this season depending on whether they win or lose to Montreal. Just how significant will the push for the playoffs become? Where should the squad be strengthened in the summer transfer window? And who needs to make way for any new additions coming in? And there's still time to introduce our new segment My Favourite Things. There's no songs from the Sound of Music, but we kick the segment off with a look at our favourite footballing years. Let us know your own ones.

Episode nine of "There's Still Time", the AFTN podcast, and it's a special roundtable discussion about Vancouver Whitecaps' season far. Recorded at the Vancouver Alpen Club, we're joined by Zachary Meisenheimer and Massimo Cusano, of Whitecaps' supporters' group Curva Collective, and AFTN writer Jay Duke to discuss the highs and lows of Caps season so far. There's lots of chat around how good/bad the first third of the season has been, who should be in the starting eleven and who shouldn't? Who have we missed the most, why can't we buy a road win, is Daigo Kobayashi any good, when will Greg Klazura get his shot, and who should start up front? We look at Martin Rennie's tactics and I'm still trying to trade away Darren Mattocks. And there's still time to introduce our new podcast gameshow 30 Seconds To Mars, where our guests battle it out to win the coveted AFTN Mars Bar (sadly not deep fried, at least not for this week).
