Note: We had some errors in this episode. Colorado will host the second leg of the first round of Conca Champions, not the first. Also, Matt might have said eight figures instead of seven figures when referring to Miguel Navarro's purchase option. Happy Holidays Colorado Rapids fans! This week on Holding The High Line, there is so much news. The guys banter about LA Galaxy winning MLS Cup and how that changes how we feel about the Rapids losing to them in the first round of the playoffs. We then discuss Colorado acquiring FC Cincinnati center backs Chidozie Awaziem and Ian Murphy. Also, Colorado getting all of Philadelphia Union draft picks for three years is the most MLS trade ever. We then preview the upcoming SuperDraft, discuss the future of past Rapids draft picks, and Sam Bassett hype! Oh, there's a few guys exposed in the MLS Expansion Draft. Red has some scoops on Miguel Navarro potentially staying with Talleres on the purchase option and Andreas Maxsø potentially going to the Middle East. We end the show with some offseason Ask HTHLs. Oh, and Colorado drew LAFC in Conca Champions. Holding The High Line is brought to you by Magic Mind, the world's first performance mental shot. We're back! It's been a much-needed few weeks off as we transitioned into our off-season podcasting schedule, which is generally monthly unless the news cycle dictates we add shows. The off-season had been a quiet one for a couple of weeks and now things are happening, so here we are. Orlando City and the Orlando Pride each released their end-of-2022 roster decisions, so it gave us a chance to see how we did in terms of our predictions of which players would stay or go from both teams. We're doing pretty well so far and could pick up more “wins” depending on whether or not players who were offered new deals end up re-signing. We walk through the surprises and non-surprises and analyze what some of the moves might mean as the teams head into 2023. On the Orlando City side, we also discussed Pedro Gallese's award for MLS Save of the Year, the addition of defender Luca Petrasso from Toronto FC, the loss of Nicholas Gioacchini to St. Louis City SC in the MLS Expansion Draft, the loss of Junior Urso to whatever personal reasons prompted his return to Brazil, Facundo Torres making Uruguay's World Cup roster, and the rumors about Arsenal's interest in signing Torres. We also talked briefly about Jack Lynn being part of San Antonio FC, which won the USL Championship title in this week's final. Big congratulations to Jack and to former Lions Santiago Patino (the MVP of the final), David Loera, and P.C. This week's mailbag asked us when it's OK to put up Christmas decorations, whether we'd support Orlando City signing Josef Martinez, and what we thought of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Star Wars: Andor, and House of the Dragon. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. After answering the mail, we turned our attention toward the Orlando Pride. We are happy for Seb Hines on getting the head coaching gig, but is he set up to succeed? And should he have been hired prior to finding whoever is going to be his new boss? Speaking of that, we say goodbye to former Pride GM Ian Fleming, as the club has parted ways with him as part of the restructuring of that position. We discuss the re-signing of Ally Watt and Haley Hanson, and whether the club is really ready to walk the walk after talking the talk. Programming Note: We are in our monthly off-season schedule for recording new episodes, but if the news cycle warrants it, we will of course put out new shows more frequently, as needed. In other words, we might be back in a week or a month. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 317 went down: 0:15 - Lots of Orlando City news! We've got comings and goings and mild surprises with regard to the off-season roster decisions. Also, please keep Mikel Arteta away from Facu. 36:46 - Mailbagbox time! We only have a couple of questions but they required some thoughtful responses. We did our best with that. 1:00:26 - The Pride face another vital off-season and although a lot of good things have been said and positive things have happened, there's still a lot to be concerned about. To begin, they dive into the main news of the week, which was the wild MLS Cup final that occurred between LAFC and the Philadelphia Union, as they look at what that final can teach the Whitecaps as they continue their preparation for the 2023 campaign. Then, they take a look at the MLS Expansion Draft, seeing if there was any value to be extracted there for Vancouver, as they pondered going the Tristan Blackmon route again. After that, they then take a look back at a fun season of Canadian Premier League action, before diving deep into a list of a dozen targets the 'Caps should be looking at from the league, as they get set to hopefully take a plunge into that market this offseason. Even in the offseason, you can barely take a week off. The Max + Vince Podcast is back to take you through a ton of LAFC news. We had transfers, trades, even the MLS scheduled dropped, and, of course, the MLS Expansion Draft. First up, it's the big news. LAFC midfielder Eduard Atuesta is on his way to Palmeiras in Brazil. The Colombian was a pivotal player for LAFC since his arrival in 2018. He joins the back-to-back Copa Libertadores champions. Max and Vince break down the move for Atuesta and LAFC, and the guys talk about what it will take to replace him. Then it's more roster moves. The 2021 MLS Expansion Draft went down and LAFC was a focal point. Tristan Blackmon was selected by expansion side Charlotte FC. As we move through December, there’s still plenty of soccer news to discuss, and we start this show with a discussion of Chris Mueller’s outstanding USMNT debut against El Salvador last week. Cash showed he belonged in the discussion to be in the player pool and that his first big moment wasn’t too big for him. We also discuss the MLS Expansion Draft and Orlando City losing defender Kamal Miller, who then got swapped to Montreal for a bunch of Garber Bucks and a first-round draft pick. The Concacaf Champions League is back underway and now it’s at Exploria Stadium, so we talked about the first two quarterfinal matches that took place Tuesday night, Homegrown goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar’s short loan spell with New York City FC, and NYFC’s new habit of getting knocked out of competitions while in the city of Orlando. The Florida Cup is still on for 2021 but the dates will change. We’ll keep you up to date when new dates are available. Orlando City has a new eMLS player for 2021. Do we care? Well, Dave and I don’t really pay much attention to that kind of thing but if you’re into that, well, now you’ve got a new champion. We give our kudos to OCSC for being among the Class of 2020 for the Best Employers in Sports, too, plus OCB and Orlando Pride players have gotten national team call-ups. Our mailbag is overflowing this week, and we discuss Kevin Molino’s availability now that he’s leaving Minnesota, plus some questions about the Pride, podcasting, and even college football. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 227 went down: 0:15 - The Money Badger is having himself a year, and now USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter has to put him on speed dial. Also, we’ll miss Kamal Miller now that he’s off to Montreal. 27:28 - Lots of miscellaneous news, including Florida Cup, a new eMLS player for Orlando, call-ups, and more. 48:55 - The mailbag has us going off on several tangents. But while this once again illustrates the lack of information coming from teams and the League, we're not sure it's anything worth panicking over. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira are back to discuss all the latest Galaxy news. And there's a surprising amount. The guys will start with Sebastian Lletget's new contract and why he might be getting overpaid. Is Lletget worth a TAM contract? Is this MLS trying to prove a big point of contention with the Players' Union before negotiating a new CBA? Or is this the League and the Galaxy valuing a fan-favorite, and USMNT talent over others at a similar skill level? Josh and Eric will then tell you what happened in the MLS Expansion Draft. And like we predicted on Monday's show, the Galaxy didn't have any selected -- and that's not a good thing. Do the Galaxy have no viable talent that another team wants? Or is this just a matter of a changing of the guard that will see another REBUILD by Dennis te Kloese and Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Have you seen the renderings of the proposed Safe-Standing sections the Galaxy are putting in on the North end? We'll explain what it looks and talk about the Supporter's meetup that is happening soon. Finally, the guys will go over the entire list of the options the Galaxy exercised and declined on Thursday. This includes telling you why Diego Polenta, Romain Alessandrini, and Skjelvik could all not be on the roster in 2020. Are you nervous about bringing Alessandrini back? On this week’s show, Coach, Boston, Ken and I recap FC Cincinnati’s protected list for the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft. There was a lot of uproar over players like Emanuel Ledesma and Titi who were left unprotected by the FCC front office. Alvas Powell was taken in the 2nd round of the Expansion Draft by Inter Miami. FC Cincinnati also acquired Brandon Vazquez from Nashville SC who had previously selected the Atlanta United 21-year old forward in their expansion draft. FC Cincinnati then traded their 1st round SuperDraft pick (3rd overall pick) to Inter Miami in exchange for $150,000 in general allocation money. More on these moves here. The 23-year-old will now be listed as a Designated Player and will continue to take up an international spot. And that's all good news, as there's another piece to a big offseason puzzle that is known. But the Galaxy have a bunch to do, including getting through this MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday. Your hosts, Josh Guesman (Beat Reporter) and Kevin Baxter (LA Times Soccer Writer), take you through both the "Protected" and "Unprotected" list and tell you where the Galaxy left themselves exposed. They also tell you what they think Miami and Nashville might be looking for in an expansion player and what that could mean for the club. But buried beneath all that talk is what the Galaxy will need to do to get Romain Alessandrini back on the roster. With Pavon currently taking up a DP slot, and with Jonathon dos Santos coming back next year, will the Galaxy risk a DP slot on Alessandrini? Or are they looking at a much smaller number for the 30-year-old Frenchman? The pressure is now on to make a deal with Alessandrini or let him go. But if the Galaxy let him go, will they have the core group of players to continue their rise in the standings? Could the Galaxy regress in 2020? And would someone lose their job? Sprinkled in-between all of that news and conjecture is a rumor update or two, a discussion on the MLS All-Star Game, AND an honest conversation about star power in Major League Soccer. Don’t blink or you’ll miss something. No, really, you almost certainly missed something this week. Maybe it was the MLS Expansion Draft, in which Atlanta United and Minnesota United grabbed five players each then turned around and started flipping them for players, GAM, TAM and draft picks. Maybe it was the rumor mill, which saw the 2017 expansion sides making noise domestically but also internationally. Andrew and David take a look at the moves, the rumors and the players already in to take a stab at what each team’s first-ever MLS season might look like.   They weren’t the only team grabbing headlines, though, as the LA Galaxy named a new head coach from within then traded for the rights to Jermaine Jones. First, what does Curt Onalfo’s appointment mean for the Galaxy philosophically? Are they going to play the kids? Second, what should they do with their two open Designated Player spots? Could Jones be one of them? Then the guys run through the rest of the rumors — too many to count — and give the list of available MLS free agents a look to see where the league could find veteran value in 2017.   In the mailbag, a parade in Seattle, then some big news on the expansions front. MLS announced the parameters for teams 25-28 on Thursday. What were those parameters? What do they mean?

It’s the first of our monthly off-season PawedCast episodes and Dave Rohe joins me to talk soccer on the show for the first time. Dave and I break down the USMNT’s firing of Jurgen Klinsmann and hiring of Bruce Arena in the midst of World Cup qualifying. We also discuss Jason Kreis’ trip to visit Atlético Paranaense in Brazil and what he might have learned from City’s Brazilian partner club while in Curitiba. There’s a lot of good that can come from these types of partnerships and it will bear watching to see how they benefit Orlando City. The Orlando Pride have already made an off-season splash, picking up USWNT defender Ali Krieger for surprisingly little in return. We talk about Tom Sermanni’s new acquisition and how it might affect the Pride in 2017. Orlando City B has made a ton of roster moves and we discuss those as well. And finally, we give our picks for which surprise players Orlando City might protect and leave unprotected for the upcoming MLS Expansion Draft. What does it all mean, moving further into World Cup qualifying? 20:07- Jason Kreis visited our new Brazilian partners. What was he up to and how can it help Orlando City? 28:14- The Pride grabbed Ali Krieger from the Washington Spirit. We also look at the picks of new boys New York City and Orlando City. Who won the battle? Did Orlando have any clue as to what they were doing? And we ask the question on many people's lips - who the hell is Tony Taylor? But it's been a week of moving and shaking. Players were re-signed, options were declined, Omar Salgado finally moved on and it looks like Sebastian Fernandez won't be back in the while and blue. We look at the impact of all these decisions and more. Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson shares some thoughts on the week's movements and what may lie in store as he gets set to jet back home to Wales and take in some matches in Europe over the Christmas period. And there's still time to continue my Carlton Cole rumours and start a new Robbie Keane one. Have a listen!
