Dir gefällt, was du hörst? “Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off we continue our weapons of mass destruction block which introduces us to Jetrel the Haakonian Oppenheimer who developed a weapon that killed upwards of 300,000 Talaxians when it was deployed during a war between the Talaxians and the Haakonians. As predicted the resident Talaxian - Neelix - isn't exactly thrilled with Jetrel's presence on the Voyager, and hostility ensues. Nathan feels the episode had a few too many threads and could have benefited from more focus. Dean doesn't necessarily agree, but he spends lots of time choking on his wine (let's hope we got all that coughing out in post). Most of the crew think Neelix should stop his whinging about his entire family being vaporized, because Jetrel feels really really bad about the whole thing. Things turn when we realize that Neelix may be terminally ill, and Jetrel goes all Re-Animator to clear his conscience and possibly save himself. The lads get into the metaphysical a bit, and then go WAY off-base when they apply Patrice ONeal's scale on rating attractiveness. They manage to reign it back and wrap it up with some more conversation about the moral responsibility of designing and deploying weapons of mass destruction. We present to you “Jetrel” from Star Trek: Voyager.” Season 1 - Episode 15 Connect with us! It's a four-person crew as Marc joins the discussion about Space Oppenheimer and Neelix's PTSD. But really, it's all about the never-ending "Transporters are the Printers of the Future" bit. Oh, yeah, and because it's Voyager, the whole episode starts with some pool hustling on... THE HOLODECK! In this week's episode of Displaced in Space, Angelina and Sam discuss "Jetrel," Episode 15 of Star Trek: Voyager. In this episode we dig into Neelix's backstory, and it is intense. We discuss how the show has finally made Neelix into a viable three dimensional character with which we sympathize. We also discuss some questionable moves made by Captain Janeway, and what this episode has in common with a dentist named Crentist.
Executive meddling means we've come to the very sudden end of "Voyager" season one! First up, we learn more about Neelix and his people when the designer of a super-weapon that devastated a Talaxian moon drops by for a visit in "Jetrel". After that, get the cheese to sickbay and brace yourself for a crappier version of TNG's "Lower Decks" in "Learning Curve". Also this week: rappin' "Trek", the Eddington sniff, and season 1 tops and bottoms! Buckle up for a Nelix episode... this week Kat and Sam get on with a podcast episode and so should you.
Episode 193: Jetrel It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star. Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek! Voyager goes all-in on debating the ethics of atrocity in times of war, and Neelix is the unlikely rhetorical centerpiece. The members of Judge Later's court must decide if the writers go too far (or perhaps not far enough) in exploring one of the darkest moments in human history. Also: Janeway will still let anyone on the ship. Is it OK for Star Trek to be joyless when the subject matter warrants? Can Neelix find it in his heart to forgive? SHOULD he forgive? Do Talaxians even have hearts? Is “Jetrel” good… or is it garbage?

Hey it’s the end of the first season of Star Trek: Voyager! In “Jetrel”, Neelix’s history is revealed to be somewhat darker than originally thought. Then, in “Learning Curve”, Tuvok is revealed to be a dour stick-in-the-mud. iTunes Google Play RSS
Oppenheimer, Degra, and Jetrel. Star Trek has always been a looking glass through which we see ourselves, a way of examining our world, who we are, and where we came from. Trek.fm is proud to introduce our newest show, Primitive Culture. In each episode, hosts Duncan Barrett and Tony Black tie history and culture to Star Trekand discuss how our own world inspires the franchise we love—and how that franchise inspires us. In the pilot episode, “Destroyers of Worlds,” Tony and Duncan look at the relationship between J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb, and two of Star Trek’s complex figures: Jetrel and Degra.
