What happens when Zack Morris turns up gut-shot in an alley behind a gay bar with multitudinous loads found in his person when he's examined at the hospital? Utter insanity, that's what. Not to be outdone, a young Elizabeth Banks pops up as his adult film star wife, and we go to set where she's about to treat some workmen pretty well while their thirsty kid is waiting in the wings. “The New Girl” (September 19, 1992) Tori Scott is more than just the mysterious seventh Bayside High student who exists in a fractured Saved by the Bell timeline in which Jessie and Kelly don't exist. She's also really gay in the tradition of Jo from The Facts of Life, and not only because Leanna Creel, the actress who played Tori, came out in real life. Erin Fletcher returns to explain why she's actually a better match for Zack than Kelly or AC Slater… because Zack Morris is the Blair Warner of Saved by the Bell. Bayside High School in Queens, New York began an early celebration of its 80th anniversary, making it one of the oldest public schools in the five boroughs. At a ceremony Saturday, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing), state Assemblyman Ed Braunstein (D-Bayside) and state Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) gathered with students, staff and alumni of the storied school to mark the occasion. The lawmakers presented proclamations declaring the importance of the school and the significance of the anniversary.Opened in 1936, and built during the Great Depression, Bayside High School was the first in the city to be constructed with federal funds from the New Deal-era Public Works Administration. The school cost $2.5 million.Gregg Sullivan, chairman of the Friends of Bayside High School, ran through many of the great historical events the school had borne witness to.“This school takes us through a number of great human events,” he said. “The Great Depression, World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars and the J.F.K. assassination. The school was also home to the very first Folk and Rock Concert to benefit education in Native American schools in the United States as produced by student Rich Buckland. The historical significance of the school, and its 80 years as a single entity, were themes each speaker touched on.“You have to love what Bayside has been and is for the community,” Avella said. “It is a historic school.”Principal Michael Athy, speaking about his vision of the school—past, present and future—said the success of Bayside is due to its legacy as one of the most rigorous and community-oriented schools in the city.

With the recent death of Saved By The Bell actor Dustin Diamond, I got to reminiscing about the early 1990s sitcom that took place in the hallowed halls of fictional Bayside High. I went back and watched a couple of clips from the show. One thing that struck me in a powerful way is the fact that the students interactions all took place without the presence of social media. That got me thinking about how smartphones have changed the lives of us all, particularly our kids. Researchers at the University of Arkansas have completed a study which finds that the more time young adults spend on social media, the more likely they are to suffer from depression. Young adults who spend over five hours a day on social media are three times more likely to suffer from depression than those who spend less than two hours a day online. Parents, now is the time to set borders, boundaries, and limits for social media use, so that your kids will develop habits that lead to their mental, relational, and spiritual well-being.

The A-story features Dorothy tutoring Mario, played by Mario Lopez, a gifted young writer (despite his trouble spelling 'February'). Eventually, we learn that Mario is undocumented and facing deportation, and that's where the 'rah-rah America' of the Reagan-era seeps through, with Dorothy encouraging him to "come back and do it the right way." Yuck! In the B story, Rose attempts to reconcile with Blanche by serving as her vedenfreugen, or PERSONAL SLAVE, so yeah, there are some issues in this one.
