We're watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 5 “A Night in Sickbay,” but only Jamie has actually watched the episode. Archer brings his dog to the planet of easily offended people, despite it very obviously being a bad idea, and then has a temper tantrum when asked to apologize. Also, Porthos is sick, there […] The post EnterpriseSplaining 36: Sickbay Slumber Party! appeared first on The ESO Network.

In episode 2, season 4 of the Quadra Alumni Podcast we talk to a dedicated couple that has been involved in training Sea Cadets for much of the past 50 years. Darrell and Sandy Dudley join me for a discussion about their Sea Cadet and Officer careers and most importantly their time at HMCS Quadra. Darrell is from RCSCC Amphion and Sandy is originally from RCSCC Rainbow, they met at an OJT Reunion at the famous Big Bad John's bar at the Strathcona Hotel in Victoria. For many years both Darrell and Sandy have served in the CIC at the local corps level and in Quadra. It would be difficult to estimate how many young Sea Cadet lives this couple has influenced and continues to influence. You'll hear some of Sandy's memories from taking the Medical Assistant Course and then working as an OJT in Sick Bay. Darrell tells us about his memories in the QSM as a cadet musician and how influential that part of his life was. Later in life, the 2 Dudley daughters join Sandy and Darrell at summer training in Quadra. Please enjoy this episode with two very dedicated Quadra Alumni members.Audio editing done by Todd Mason.More about the Quadra Alumni Podcast: - Join the Quadra Alumni Association at https://www.quadraalumni.com/ - Follow on Twitter at https://twitter.com/QAAPodcast- Follow on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@quadraalumnipodcast6108 - Follow on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/q_alumni_podcast/?hl=en Email us at quadraalumnipodcast@gmail.com for any inquiries or requests to be on the Quadra Alumni Podcast

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Series 5, Episode 20. First broadcast on Monday 21 April 1997. Again, the story doesn't really have a legitimate theme, it's just More Ferengi Farce, but without any solid laughs. In fact, I'd put “Ferengi Love Songs” on or near the bottom of the Ferengi episode list. Jamahl Epsicokhan, Jammer's Reviews It's all pretty trivial and unamusing. The only reason this is watchable at all is that Armin Shimerman is so accomplished. Moogie is right – leave your action figures in their original packaging. Tom Salinksy, Trekaday It was a show that worked well in dailies, in little snippets, but put it all together and you're saying ‘Enough already!'" Ira Steven Behr, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion – I don't think that that episode was as good as either A Night in Sickbay or Genesis, but I do think it was pretty fun, and I'm glad that Deep Space Nine does it. – Yeah, I don't think that was an amazing episode, but pretty fun, I'll take. Catching Up Over Coffee and ArchitectureIn this episode, Jamie and Kurt return after a brief hiatus, recovering from illness. They discuss the challenges of recording live, share their recent travel experiences, and dive into a detailed discussion about the architectural significance of the 1936 Hall of State in Dallas, Texas. The conversation spans the importance of reusing historical sites, touches on the architectural impacts of global events like the Olympics and World's Fairs, and highlights the sketching process of capturing monumental buildings. WHAT THE PARADOX? It's the end of the time loop as we know it and Voyager feels fine -- kinda, sorta. Getting back from 20th century Earth isn't without its complications though, as Captain Janeway discovers that American capitalism is as evil as the Borg when Henry Starling reveals that he plans to travel to the 29th century in his stolen time ship despite her warnings that such a trip would cause a temporal explosion. Meanwhile, Tom Paris and Rain Robinson grow so close that Sarah Silverman has off-screen stories about making out with some of the show's actors during her guest stint; Chakotay & B'Elanna are captured by militiamen; and, The Doctor gains the ability to leave Sickbay, forever altering the character. Ah, but do all these qualities make the episode a TREK, MARRY, or KILL?The grades begin at (20:28).
Send us some fan mail!In this episode, Ashley is not enjoying the Klingons. (Could it be because she hasn't met WORF?) Also, does not enjoying the Klingons mean you aren't enjoying Star Trek? M. Foss continues her Saru Apology Tour, and wonders when—or if—Ashley will come to appreciate him. He might win her over if he promises to never run on camera again. Here's the SNL sketch about the Papyrus font in Avatar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVhlJNJopOQ&t=3sAnd here's an article about it: https://designforhackers.com/blog/papyrus-font/Have you ever seen John Carpenter's The Thing? If not, M. Foss recommends watching the whole film (if you're into the scary stuff). If you don't have time to watch the whole film, you can get the point by watching this iconic scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2o2FRwn_hgAnd finally, here's the TikTok about how the Star Wars films are incorrectly named: https://www.tiktok.com/@fake.disney.facts/video/6855402195291032837?embed_source=121374463%2C121451205%2C121439635%2C121433650%2C121404359%2C121351166%2C121331973%2C120811592%2C120810756%3Bnull%3Bembed_masking&refer=embed&referer_url=movieweb.com%2Fstar-wars-movies-wrong-titles%2F&referer_video_id=6855402195291032837Enjoy!
In this episode, M. Foss and Ashley ponder the classic time loop episode and how a time loop works as a metaphor across a myriad of situations. Is it a metaphor for fandom and how we trust our beloved properties to get back on the horse if they tried a little something and it didn't work? Yes. Is it a metaphor for this crazy ride we call life? Sure. Is it a metaphor for how Ashley felt about M. Foss not finishing (or even really starting) Succession? No, it's not that. But feel free to tune in to hear how that all went down anyway.
M. Foss accidentally uses an inappropriate (or is it?) slur to refer to Captain Gabriel Lorca (here's a hint: it sounds an awful lot like the word "horror") and Ashley absolutely knocks it out of the solar system with her take on Sarek's journey with guilt.Content Warning: The "Urgent Care/Prescription" portion of the episode contains a discussion of death and dying.
Fresh out of a brief stay in Sick Bay, Coyote Ugly (Branson Reese) returns to active duty, on a seemingly simple mission with Dr Dewey (Christopher Hastings) and mild-mannered ensign Single Chance (Tim Platt). But will it remain as it seems, or will the discovery of an awe-inspiring alien creature cause hysteria aboard the CSS Cavalier and discord between the three characters we focus on in this episode? Good news for Tilly apologists (like M. Foss): Ashley is warming up to everyone's favorite cadet. Bad news for fans of Saru (like M. Foss): we can't say the same about everyone's favorite Kelpian. Ashley still hates him. Also bad news for anyone who has ever seen The Original Series (like M. Foss): Ashley is all in on her choice of Harcourt Fenton Mudd as her favorite Star Trek character so far. But all these news items come with…you guessed it…CONTEXT. Join us to learn all about that context and much, much more. For funsies, here's an article you might enjoy about blasting past Star Trek's final frontier: swear words on the show. In this episode, M. Foss creates a rather robust list of things that “are Star Trek” or “are NOT Star Trek”…follow along to see if you agree or disagree! Also, a question for the room: can we truly invest in a character without the threat of the character's demise on the table? Are life-or-death stakes the only ones powerful enough to break through our generational apathy and numbness? If universal law is for lackeys, and context is for kings, then Star Trek is for lovers and we're fully shipping Lorca and Stamets over here. In this episode, Michael Burnham provides us with valuable lessons about leadership. Also, M. Foss is on the edge of breaking down and sliding Ashley a few Trek Trivia answers under the console.
M. Foss and Ashley are back on the bridge with a fun but frank take on the hegemonic stifling of main character energy when said main character is Michael Burnham. We also tackle the topic of whether Klingons can be racist amongst each other (spoiler alert: they can). Finally, if you enjoy a classic "who's on first?" style exchange, then you won't want to miss this episode's quiz (it starts right around 30:25).

Welcome to the premiere of The TV Doctor, Season 5!This time around, we're doing things a little differently. Think of Season 5 as a clinical trial. M. Foss has returned, but she's not alone. For Season 5, the TV Doctor will be joined by a very special "intern" for a very special mission: to boldly go where few have gone before and some have had little-to-no previous interest in going. One of us is an Admiral-level doctor specializing in all things Star Trek; the other is a cadet who has all the right stuff but is learning about Trek from scratch. Together, we're going to work our way through Star Trek: Discovery, in honor of its series finale.Welcome aboard, buckle up, and let's fly.Content warning: Between 9:25 and 10:35, there is a brief discussion of mental health/illness and suicide.

It turns out this episde is pretty reviled by Trek Fans. However, we enjoy this episode for what it is...but what is that exactly? We go into the Writers Room pretty early one and, I think, improve the episode in a way that would've actually done a lot to progress Archer's character. contact us - podcastnx01@gmail.com Twitter/X - @JoshFromMars
The past is back to haunt us this week on "Enterprise" – both recent and not. First up: while searching for a fix for the mine damage from last week, the crew is directed to an automated repair station that seems a bit too good to be true in "Dead Stop". After that, Archer has offended the Kreetassans again (but maybe they have a point this time), but he doesn't care because Porthos isn't doing well in "A Night in Sickbay". Also this week: TOS-style space weirdness, a complete lack of subtlety, and Dr. Pulaski! Brad Zerbst Zooms In and Beams Up Brad Zerbst had one of those "blink and miss him" roles in Star Trek TNG, appearing as a medical officer in three episodes from season one - "Justice," "Heart of Glory," and "Skin of Evil." But Starfleet wasn't all it was cracked up to be for Brad, and he shifted his focus to something else - literally, by becoming an award-winning and highly sought-after camera operator. Brad explains how his first gig in Hollywood brought him back to his hometown, his appearances on "Murder, She Wrote," what the TNG uniforms from the first season felt like, working with Gates McFadden in Sick Bay on the Enterprise, and if he heard rumors about Denise and Gates wanting to exit the series. Plus, we learn about his work as an Emmy Award-winning camera operator, including how Michael Landon helped him early in his off-camera career, stories behind the scenes with Mel Brooks on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," working with Jerry O'Connell on "The Talk," the wild times working with Richard Simmons on "Dream Maker," hilarious tales from "Whose Line Is It Anyway," and what's really up with Ellen Degeneres, and whether or not she's as horrible as the tabloids say she is. Minute Ninety Eight: From Steve Entering the Sick Bay to Hill Revealing the Actual Location of Coulson's CardsPlaywright Dean O'Carroll joins us in this episode! In the ninety-eighth minute of The Avengers...Steve finds Natasha in the sick bay and seems to have forgotten that she flew him to Stuttgart and back in a quinjet as he asks her if she knows how to fly one. Okay, so the line is really only there to get Clint in the room where he and Steve meet, but it's an awkward line. But Clint is better and seems to be ready for action! That means it's been over an hour and a half before we actually get to have Hawkeye be a hero in the film. Phew. That leads us to our let's-kick-off-act-three-with-a-heroes-getting-ready-montage montage! Thor's in the field in New Jersey (actually Ohio) whipping up a storm and calling the lightning. Tony fixes his mask and dons it. Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Captain America all grab their weapons and head to a quinjet. It's exciting stuff! We get to chat a bit about Black Widow's Bite as we see Natasha test it. We also get to ponder Steve ever calling anyone ‘son' and why it doesn't quite work for us. We also ponder how Thor actually figures out where he's going. As the minute draws to a close, we see Maria Hill join Nick Fury in the bridge. Fury's looking at the bloody trading cards, and Hill reveals that she knows they'd been in Phil's locker, not his pocket. We're setting up Fury's response. Should be a good one. Our savagery knows no bounds as we are forced to watch and review "A Night in Sickbay" - an episode so bad, it defies brief description. Witness as Archer fails to have basic adult coping skills, more cringe exploitation happens, and we question the sanity and good sense of everyone involved.

Everyone's favorite Doctor is back which means this is already one of the best episodes of Enterprise yet. Now the question is can these two actually say anything about Star Trek.
After crossing paths with an alien vessel, a mysterious woman materializes on the Enterprise, only to knock the entire crew unconscious. When everyone comes to, they are horrified to discover the body of Mr. Spock clinging to life in Sickbay after having his brain removed with remarkable surgical precision. With very little to go on except a faint ion trail, Captain Kirk pursues the would-be culprit across the galaxy to an unexplored star system, where he must choose between three possible planets to find Spock's brain and have it restored in time to save his life. After mounting a trailblazing letter-writing campaign to save "Star Trek" from cancellation, fans were duly rewarded (or punished?) for their efforts when "Spock's Brain" was chosen to launch the third season on September 20, 1968. Since then, it has gained the notorious reputation as being the worst "Star Trek" episode of all time. But is it really that bad? Is it worse than, say, "And the Children Shall Lead" or "The Way to Eden?" The fact is, "Spock's Brain" starts off strong and features a stellar score composed by Fred Steiner. It isn't until the third act that the proceedings take a ridiculous turn for the worst, but one thing's for sure: "Spock's Brain" is never dull, so for that reason alone, maybe it's not so bad after all. “A Night in Sickbay” 20th-anniversary reflections When Porthos takes a leak on a sacred tree, it's strike two for the Enterprise crew with Kreetassans. But that relief doesn't last the beloved pooch as a pathogen in the Kreetassan air leaves him sick. Archer then spends a night in sickbay where, when he isn't dreaming about T'Pol, he helps Phlox try to save Porthos. But don't worry, eventually all is well and Archer even gets to play lumberjack. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 20th-anniversary retrospective that takes you through all of Star Trek: Enterprise, one episode at a time. In this installment, we continue Season 2 with “A Night in Sickbay” as we take a look inside the heads of Archer and Phlox, chase bats, and explore sexy canines and shipping. This week, we're joined by Anika to chat about Enterprise's "A Night In Sickbay", in which Captain Archer acts like a 12-year-old for an entire episode and also has some wet dreams about T'Pol. Also the dog is ill, which we're meant to care about.
*Content warning: this episode discusses gun violence, as one of us has a personal connection to a mass shooting that happened on May 15, 2022. Listeners should proceed at their own discretion from 00:27:08 til the end of the episode. Shelley and Bonnie give some important updates in this episode, like how their first trip together to Utah went, how “party” the party house actually was, and how they just might believe in love after witnessing such a gorgeous wedding. (Congrats again, Jacob and Anatasha!) Then, the conversation turns serious, as our hosts discuss a recent event of gun violence that happened in their community, at Bonnie’s home church. Shelley encourages her best friend to take up space and process in her own time, and Bonnie does. It’s truly a moment of Friendship In Action. And finally, a surprise appearance from a much-beloved and oft-mentioned special guest is the perfect way to close out this date. Email everybodyshipsus@gmail.com to send us mail with Jeremy!
