A Highland Song2. Celestial3. A Highland Fantasia The Sausage Factory 500 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.
We're joined by Jon Ingold, co-founder of Inkle Studios (80 Days, Heaven's Vault) to discuss A Highland Song - a wild adventure through the Scottish Highlands. We chat about creating narrative-driven games without a critical path, allowing players to fail forward, and the origins of Inkle's beloved narrative scripting language, ink. Dirk and David are joined by Jon Ingold, narrative designer and co-founder of Inkle Studios. They discuss Inkle's newly released video game A Highland Song, centered around exploration, discovery, and engaging the human form within nature. They discuss the mechanics around rewarding and incentivizing players in an exploration game, ways to hide the quantum ogre, and how to utilize elements of randomness within a story-driven experience.
Seoirse is joined by none other than head of Inkle Studios, Jon Ingold, to talk about their upcoming game, A Highland Song. He talks about what we can expect from the gameplay, why they decided to make this game with light platforming elements and how Scottish folk music will play a large part in the game as well as what their objectives were with the look of the game.Inkle Studios Official SiteA HIghland Song Official SiteWASD Official SiteAdventure Games Podcast Official SiteIf you would like to stay up to date make sure you subscribe to the podcast. I've had a soft spot for Inkle ever since playing Sorcery! on my old banger of an iPhone many years ago, and I've been delighted by every single game it has made since. Games like 80 Days, Heaven's Vault, Overboard! and Pendragon - games that wield words masterfully. And I cannot wait for the studio's new game A Highland Song that was revealed properly only a few weeks ago. It's with great excitement, then, that I introduce today's Eurogamer Podcast guests. They are the two people who founded Inkle just over 10 years ago. The two people who once met working on a curious game at Sony about the cycle of a person's life - a game that would ultimately never be made. But they became friends, dreaming together about what kind of games they would make, and then one day, dreams became reality and Inkle was born. They are Joseph Humfrey and Jon Ingold, and this is their winding tale.
Elden Ring is set in world "built" partly by George R R Martin. But what is worldbuilding? We talk to games writer Jon Ingold of Inkle Studios to find out.
Jon Ingold is the founder and narrative director of Inkle Studios who have made hugely popular narrative games such as 80 Days, Overboard! and Heaven's Vault. He is also a published author and has just released a two-volume novel set in the Heaven's Vault world. We had a fascinating chat with Jon about the differences between fiction and interactive fiction - and found out that in many ways, they are not all that different after all. We talked about his inspirations for interactive fiction, and how he structures these stories both from a technical and narrative perspective. He tells us why he wanted to revisit the world of Heaven's Vault as a book, and we also find time to talk about the latest film adaptation of Dune...Links:Buy Heaven's Vault the novel now!Follow Jon on TwitterVisit Inkle's websiteThe Page One Podcast is brought to you by Write Gear, creators of Page One - the Writer's Notebook. The word legend is used quite a bit these days but we're sure most people will agree that this week's guest is an absolute legend. He is of course Jon Ingold, CEO and co-founder of Inkle Studios and developer of games such as this podcast's game of the year 2019, Heaven's Vault, Overboard! and Pendragon. Now he has turned his talents to writing not one but two novelisations of Heaven's Vault so Seoirse and Tomas were only to happy to chat to Jon about the game and the books as well the process of adapting this award winning game as well as everything you could ever want to know about the game and much more! We sat down with Inkle Studios' Narrative Designer, Jon Ingold, to talk about their new surprise-release mystery game Overboard! On a trip from London to New York, you get sick of your husband and throw him overboard, and now you've got to get away with it. Set in the 1930s, this youdunnit takes the ideas we explored in The Last Express, flips them on their head and dials up the urgency. From hiding goals from the player, to an impassioned rant about a contentious mechanic in the game, Jon tells us all about what went into this wonderful new addition to the mystery pantheon.
We discuss episodes 1-6 of Rooster Teeth's 'Dead Little Roosters', directed by Josh Flanagan and Fiona Nova. Ten of Rooster Teeth's staff arrive for a party at the estate of the wealthy Nicodemus, only for the old man to turn up dead. The ten are then locked in their rooms, and as the gang keep themselves entertained, the body count starts to rise in rhythm with a mysterious poem, the 'Dead Little Roosters Addendum'. Who will survive, and who is the killer? With real prizes on the line, it's up to the audience to figure it out in this interactive mystery competition (or at least it was when it was airing). We're also joined by Jon Ingold, Narrative Designer for Inkle Studios to talk about their awesome new youdunnit mystery game, Overboard! From keeping players engaged with a rotating set of goals, and investing your players in a murderous protagonist, it's a beautiful culmination of many of the ideas we've been discussing over the course of our interactive leg of the tour.
Good Morning, Colorado, and welcome to the Daily Sun-Up. It’s Wednesday December 2nd, and we’re feeling lucky to start the day with you. Join us daily for an in-depth look at one of our top stories, and a quick summary of other important things happening in our state. Today, we’re discussing why we’ve seen surging numbers of coronavirus cases in Colorado. Before we begin, let’s take a look at what happened on this day in Colorado history - adapted from Derek R Everett’s book “Colorado Day by Day”: Today, we take you back to December 2nd, 1938 when President Franklin D Roosevelt signed a land patent that created the Colorado State Forest. It extends along the Medicine Bow Range, and along the eastern edge of North Park in Jackson County. It’s the state’s premier moose viewing destination. Now, our feature story. In early November, Colorado’s coronavirus case numbers surged to levels that now threaten the state’s hospital capacity and could lead to thousands of more deaths before the end of the year. So, what were we collectively doing in late summer that we stopped doing in October? Some said the surge in cases has been caused by indoor dining at restaurants - Others said large super-spreader events - and some said it was small personal gatherings! The finger-pointing ran in circles, and The New York Times published an article, citing data from Colorado, questioning whether small gatherings really were driving the spread of the virus. The director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention actually rebutted the article, saying that it is really being driven by household gatherings. But big-picture analyses of mobility trends provide a much simpler answer to this mystery for Colorado. Colorado Sun reporter Jon Ingold is joining us today to provide some insight. Jon thanks for joining us, so, I know you’ve been working with a Colorado State University professor who said that the prerequisite for this current surge has been in place for a while. Can you explain that? So does this data show where people are going? And if we’ve been seeing this uptick in mobility since the summer why are we just now starting to see cases increase? So, on top of already rising numbers of cases, what’s the expected impact of the Thanksgiving holiday? The people who caught the coronavirus over Thanksgiving were all exposed in different ways. But, again, the common factor is mobility. And Fauci said there is one sure way to reverse the rise in cases: People just have to change their behavior and stay home as much as possible and wear masks and maintain distance from others when they leave home. Thanks for listening. Before we go here are a few stories you should know about today: 52 Catholic priests in Colorado, including iconic Father Woody, abused 212 victims according to further investigation. - Jared Polis and his partner tested positive for Coronavirus after Polis was exposed to someone with COVID-19 on Wednesday. Limited information on his infection has been released. - CU Boulder struggles to enroll low-income students and that has consequences for Coloradans’ social mobility. - Child care centers are among the few Colorado businesses that have been allowed to stay open during the pandemic, yet they are a top priority as the state legislature meets this week to hand out coronavirus relief money. - Aurora police officers and medics sued over the death of Elijah McClain are asking a judge to dismiss the federal lawsuit.

Heaven’s Vault is an “archeological science fiction adventure game” from Inkle. In the game, you – as archeologist Aliya – sail the Nebula from moon to moon, exploring ruins and meeting people and, most importantly, translating an ancient language called… Ancient. Philippa Warr wrote a glowing review of Heaven’s Vault for PC Gamer, so Jordan invited her on the podcast to explain more about why she loved it so much. While this episode is almost entirely about the translation puzzles, no actual solutions are discussed beyond those you might discover within the first few minutes of play. You can watch Jon Ingold’s talk “Designing a Lost Language for Heaven’s Vault” on YouTube.
Jon Ingold, co-founder of Inkle Studios, joins us on the podcast today. The studio has produced award-winning adventures for mobile and PC, including the Sorcery series and 80 Days, and they're only weeks away from releasing their latest project, Heaven's Vault. Jon somehow found the time to talk to us about his career, the founding of Inkle and the creation of their games, as well as diving into the nuts and bolts of what it means to write interactive, branching fiction and dialogue. There's incredible insight here from one of the most experienced writers in gaming, and if you're interested in games writing this is a must-listen.
