Surging electricity demand is pushing the grid to its limits, prompting regulators and innovators to expand the system without sacrificing reliability or affordability. In this episode of the Grid Talk Series on The EPRI Current, Marty Rosenberg meets with Ann Rendahl, President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), a commissioner with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, and a member of EPRI's Advisory Council, to explore how state regulators are navigating rapid changes to the electric grid. Rendahl discusses the sharp rise in electricity demand and its implications for rates, infrastructure investment, and long-term reliability. They also discuss how regulators are working to protect customers from stranded costs, balance an evolving generation mix, and manage growing risks from wildfires, cybersecurity threats, and climate impacts on hydropower. To get EPRI's Take, host Samantha Gilman speaks with Morgan Scott, EPRI's VP of Global Outreach Partnerships, about where innovation is most urgently needed as electricity demand accelerates. Scott highlights the increasing load data centers could account for by 2030 and explains why meeting that challenge will require advances in generation, grid-enhancing technologies, and flexibility at both the customer and data center levels. She also reframes the conversation around affordability – distinguishing the rising cost of electricity from its growing value within the broader “energy wallet” for consumers. In today's episode of The Milk Road Show, we sit down with Austin Reid, one of the largest crypto prime brokerages in the world, to unpack what's really happening behind the scenes as Wall Street quietly builds exposure to Bitcoin and digital assets. While retail investors panic, global banks, asset managers, and hedge funds are setting up the infrastructure to deploy capital into crypto through ETFs, regulated derivatives, credit markets, tokenization, and on-chain finance. This conversation reveals where institutional money is flowing, what could trigger the next wave of adoption, and why the current dip may not tell the full story.~~~~~
Join the Conversation at 303-477-5600 or text to 307-200-8222 Monday - Friday from 3 pm - 6 pm MT. HOUR 1 Hour 1 of https://RushToReason.com opens with a bold challenge: are we being told the full truth about our health—or just the convenient version? John Rush is joined by Dr. Kelly Victory, an independent physician and nationally recognized public health expert, for a wide-ranging and provocative conversation. Should some prescription drugs—like antibiotics—be available over the counter? Would it lower costs and restore patient freedom, or create new risks? Then the discussion pivots to hormone replacement therapy. Is declining testosterone or estrogen just “normal aging,” or are people suffering unnecessarily? And how do you pursue hormone therapy safely—without falling for clinic hype? The hour turns more intense as they examine rising cancer rates, particularly in younger adults. Is it a coincidence, lifestyle, COVID itself, or the mRNA shots? Dr. Kelly outlines concerns about immune disruption, lipid nanoparticles, and batch inconsistencies. What can people do now? Are antibody tests and certain supplements worth considering? If you've ever felt like key details are missing from the mainstream narrative, this episode asks the hard questions—without apology. Websites Mentioned * https://LabCorp.com * https://howbadismybatch.com HOUR 2 Hour 2 turns up the heat. John Rush welcomes Alvin Louie, President of Courage Is a Habit, for a tactical breakdown of what he calls “language deconstruction.” Are cultural debates—especially around transgender ideology—being won not by facts, but by redefining words? Alvin shares a provocative role-play and a six-month social experiment designed to expose what he believes are manipulative debate tactics. How do you avoid getting dragged into the “swamp” and losing moral clarity? Then John pivots to media accountability. With the FCC reportedly scrutinizing The View over equal-time rules, what exactly is the Fairness Doctrine—and could it apply to late-night hosts, too? If one political candidate gets airtime, should the opponent automatically get the same? The hour closes with strong commentary on circumcision, religious doctrine, and a viral controversy involving an Islamic scholar condemning dog ownership. Are we witnessing cultural confusion—or a deeper ideological shift? If you care about free speech, faith, media bias, and parental authority, this hour demands your attention. Guest Timestamps * 1:17 – Alvin Louie - https://courageisahabit.org HOUR 3 Hour 3 opens with Jerzee Joe delivering a sharp economic perspective: Why do nations with the same geography end up worlds apart economically? From Haiti vs. the Dominican Republic to East vs. West Berlin, is government the defining factor between prosperity and collapse? The conversation intensifies with analysis of media silence surrounding controversial political rhetoric, questions about crime trends, and ongoing investigations tied to Black Lives Matter leadership. Are Americans getting the full story—or just curated headlines? Then, energy policy takes center stage as Kenny Stein, Vice President of Policy at the American Energy Alliance and the Institute for Energy Research, joins the program. What did the Trump administration actually roll back in EPA regulations? Were EV mandates quietly being imposed through regulatory backdoors? Why are hybrid vehicles outperforming fully electric models in a true free-market environment? And did Toyota outsmart Detroit by refusing to chase political trends? From governance and urban decline to energy freedom and the realities of the auto industry, this hour challenges narratives and asks: What happens when policy overrides the marketplace? With Kouri Richins' aggravated murder trial set to begin February 23 in Park City, Utah, the Department of Homeland Security has issued an intelligence bulletin to law enforcement identifying her case as part of a growing national trend. The January 2026 bulletin warned that domestic partners are increasingly turning to chemical and biological toxins to kill, documenting seventeen cases since 2014 with at least eleven deaths. The substances most commonly used — antifreeze, eye drops, fentanyl, cyanide, and thallium — are chosen specifically because they mimic natural illness, creating significant challenges for detection and prosecution.Richins is charged with spiking her husband Eric's cocktail with a fatal dose of illicit fentanyl on March 3, 2022, with prosecutors alleging a prior failed attempt on Valentine's Day. Eric was found with approximately five times the lethal dose in his blood. The alleged motive centers on financial pressure — her realty company reportedly owed lenders at least $1.8 million while his estate was worth roughly $5 million. She has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. But the Richins case also highlights the systemic vulnerabilities that make poisoning an increasingly attractive method. Eric died at home and his death was initially treated as an overdose, not a homicide. America's autopsy rate has collapsed to 8.5%, with natural-looking deaths autopsied just 4.3% of the time. Research shows death certificates are wrong roughly a third of the time. Tony walks through three convicted cases — James Craig, Lana Clayton, and Stacey Castor — where the killer nearly escaped detection entirely, and connects them to the Richins trial and the federal warning that says this problem is getting worse.#KouriRichins #DHSPoisoningBulletin #DomesticPoisoning #TrueCrimeToday #JamesCraig #EricRichins #LanaClayton #StaceyCastor #AutopsyRate #FentanylPoisoningJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? John Rubino, [Substack https://rubino.substack.com/ ], joins us for another wide-ranging and nuanced discussion around fundamental drivers, macro catalysts, and technical momentum factors that are leading to volatility in precious metals like silver, gold, and platinum, and the related PM stocks. We also review initiatives from industry and governments to secure supplies of domestic critical minerals like copper, nickel, zinc, uranium, and rare earths. We start off reviewing the run in silver, gold, and platinum to new all-time highs just in January, followed by a sharp reversal lower the last day of the month and over the handful of trading sessions to kick off February. John touches upon the series of potential catalysts that led to the swift correction in metals process from investors “with large profits that needed to be protected,” the Trump appointment of Kevin Warsh to the Fed, both US and Chinese commodities exchanges raising margin requirements to trade the metals, and corrective trends pressuring a number of equity market sectors and the crypto space lower in sympathy. He contrasts those headwinds with the longer-term positive tailwind catalysts for the precious metals; arising from central bank buying of gold, geopolitical uncertainties, concerns about the growing national debt, and the desire to cut interest rates and run the economy hot to try and grow the US out of the economic challenges it faces, which will end up being even more inflationary. John reviews the investing strategies he is utilizing in his own portfolio of resource stocks; where he is dollar cost averaging into quality producers and developers across a range of key metals stocks using low-ball bids to accumulate positions on pricing pullbacks. When discussing the growing demand for critical minerals globally for defense and industry, John highlights the recent US initiative to build a strategic minerals stockpile dubbed “Project Vault.” The discussion is also taking place about the government setting pricing floors in many critical minerals to encourage development of domestic mineral deposits or with trading partners, getting around the artificially low prices set by China. We also discuss the large capex spends from tech and AI companies and how commodity intensive that physical buildout will be in combination with the energy needs. We discuss merger & acquisitions from precious metals companies into copper and critical minerals deposits may be the right kind of diversification taking advantage of the larger macro themes in the commodities sector. John stresses the importance of investors continuing to get educated on the specific uses and demand factors in some of the more niche' critical minerals and energy metals, to better understand the individual companies they are investing in. Hello Wonderful Reader, Today I've chosen a special erotic poem and writing prompts for you to explore your too-muchness and wild expansiveness. So grab a pen and paper, and let's get started. Desert Pools By Sara Teasdale (1884 - 1933) I love too much; I am a river Surging with spring that seeks the sea,I am too generous a giver, Love will not stoop to drink of me.His feet will turn to desert places Shadowless, reft of rain and dew,Where stars stare down with sharpened faces From heavens pitilessly blue. And there at midnight sick with faring He will stoop down in his desireTo slake the thirst grown past all bearing In stagnant water keen as fire.Source: Poets.org. In today's episode, we take a deep dive into the latest stats on China's surging investments in the Belt-and-Road Initiative countries. Energy investment is up, but we learn that this was both the 'greenest and dirtiest' year for BRI investments ever. Even as China's oil demand stagnates, China's SOEs and construction companies are doing brisk business investing in oil and gas, even as CATL and Jinko Solar find deals and opportunities in Latin America and Africa. Our guest, Christoph Nedopil-Wang, is the director of the Griffith Asia Institute and Professor of Economics. Christoph engages in research related to sustainable finance and business in Asia and the Pacific, and he is particularly interested in the role of China in Asia's sustainable development with extensive engagement in green finance, green energy transition, green metals, climate smart state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He has numerous publications related to the topic of China's overseas finance and green finance in general, and in particular he is the lead author of the China Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Investment Report 2025, published by the Griffith Asia Institute in early January 2026, in collaboration with the Green Finance & Development Center (GFDC) of the Fanhai International School of Finance (FISF), in Fudan, China. [Editorial note: a young family member can occasionally be heard in the background.] Questions we address are: Is surging investment a surprise? And why is this happening just as China's domestic economy slows? Why is oil and gas investment surging when domestic demand is so soft? Is Chinese investment in minerals and minerals processing mainly a "scramble for resources" or is it a development opportunity for the recipient countries? Is Africa's growth of 300% a signficant trend change that could continue? Deal size is up. What ever happened to "small is beautiful"? Expectations for 2026 Further reading: China Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Investment Report 2025 https://blogs.griffith.edu.au/asiainsights/china-belt-and-road-initiative-bri-investment-report-2025-2/

With electricity prices on the rise, the future of our power grid is attracting a lot more attention. Surging demand is at the center of the story, but the power sector is also grappling with supply chain bottlenecks and aging infrastructure – all while trying to balance capacity growth with reducing emissions. This isn't just a technical challenge. Energy affordability and equity are reshaping debates about energy policy, permitting reform, and climate goals. So, what's really behind rising prices? What are the best ways to balance the need to build capacity with the interests of communities? What role can research play when it comes to steering energy policy? And what lessons can Texas teach us about all of these concerns? Today on the show, Jason Bordoff speaks with Michael Webber about the costs of energy; the challenges of permitting reform; and the need to build more energy faster. Michael Webber is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He's the author of multiple books on energy, including Power Trip and Thirst for Power, both of which were adapted into award-winning PBS documentary series. In addition to his academic post, Michael previously served as CTO of the venture fund Energy Impact Partners, and as chief science and technology officer at ENGIE. This week on The Global Fresh Series, we take a wide-angle look at how rapidly shifting environmental conditions, global demand, and innovation are reshaping the fresh produce landscape. We begin in California, where the state has officially been declared drought-free, marking a major turning point for growers, water policy, and long-term agricultural planning. From there, we travel to Southeast Asia, where surging demand for durian—driven by the Chinese market—is transforming the small rural village of Raub, in Malaysia. Once a quiet agricultural area, Raub is now positioning itself as a global supplier, expanding durian production and opening new export channels to India. We close the episode with a look at innovation closer to home, as four new potato varieties are introduced to the market—highlighting how plant breeding, consumer preferences, and adaptability continue to drive opportunity in staple crops. From climate resilience to exotic fruit demand and varietal innovation, this episode captures the interconnected forces shaping the future of global fresh produce.
