Do you remember when days were like that? More specifically, do you remember Sugar Jones and their song “Days Like That”? If not, well, you are forgiven. Sugar Jones only existed for a couple years at the beginning of the millennium. But in that short stint they dropped what is widely considered an unforgettable, stone cold, Canadian R&B-pop classic. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military correspondent Emanuel Fabian and Jewish world reporter Zev Stub join host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. In an indication of the uptick of events along Israel’s northern border, IDF troops conducted an overnight raid in southern Lebanon and destroyed several buildings that were being used by Hezbollah, the military says. This is the second ground operation inside Lebanon in the past several days, conducted outside of the five points Israel now holds inside its neighbor. We learn about the IDF's outlook for a stepped-up conflict. Upon assuming office, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir appointed a panel of former senior military officers to conduct an external investigation into the series of the IDF's internal probes in its failures on and ahead of Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terror onslaught. Fabian explores the new panel's findings and where the IDF needs to fill in holes. Itai Ofir will become the military advocate general later this month after Defense Minister Israel Katz ratified his appointment Sunday. He will succeed Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, who resigned and admitted to authorizing the leak of the Sde Teiman detainee abuse video. Fabian describes an unusual rank jump that Ofir will need to be given to assume the role. After a dramatic negotiation process with several surprise turns, the next leadership of the World Zionist Organization has been selected. Just ahead of recording, Stub learned that Rabbi Doron Perez, chairman of the religious Zionist World Mizrachi movement and father of Cpt. Daniel Perez, who was killed in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, will split the five-year term with the incumbent chairman of the WZO, Yaakov Hagoel. Last week, Yad Vashem, Israel’s World Holocaust Remembrance Center, said that it has recovered the names of five million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, a milestone it called “historic” in its decades-long mission to restore the identities of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis. As part of its mission to mark every one of those six million as an individual, the museum wing has opened a new exhibit with deeply personal affects. Stub was at the new exhibit and reports back. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. In this compelling teaching, Servant Marcia Carty breaks down the critical difference between the Old and New Covenants with God, offering powerful encouragement for believers navigating today's challenging world. The message is a reminder that God is faithful and His promises, confirmed by His own oath, are the anchor for our souls. The discussion covers: -- Individual Accountability: God established that each soul is accountable for its own actions and sins; the proverb about the father's sins being carried by the son is no longer applicable (Ezekiel 18). -- God's Desire for Life: God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that all should repent, turn from their ways, and live. -- The Failure of the First Covenant: The Israelites broke the original covenant, leading to judgment, but God, in His mercy, established a better way. -- The New Covenant in Christ: Jesus is the Surety and Mediator of a better covenant, which is established upon better promises—specifically, God's oath by Himself, making it impossible for Him to lie. -- One Way to God: We must approach God through the single avenue He designed: Jesus Christ, who lives forever to intercede for us. -- Sanctification Through Jesus: We are sanctified (set apart) through the offering of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, once for all. -- Living in the 'Days of Noah': The current world conditions of great violence, advanced knowledge (AI), and spiritual corruption are signs that Jesus' return is near. Believers must hold fast to their faith and operate in their authority. Scriptures for Further Study -- Ezekiel 17:16-24 -- Ezekiel 18:3-32 -- Hebrews 6:13-20 -- Hebrews 7:22-28 -- Hebrews 8:6-13 -- Hebrews 9:13-28 -- Hebrews 10:9-25 +++++++ We have begun building a new website which you can see here: https://www.noahdays.org/

One of the great leading men of the last 50 years — think about his work in 'Days of Heaven,' 'American Gigolo,' 'An Officer and a Gentleman,' 'Pretty Woman' and 'Chicago' — reflects on how gymnastics and music helped to make him a better actor; how, over the decades, the sort of projects to which he's been drawn hasn't changed, but the industry's desire for them has; and what it was like reuniting with Paul Schrader, 44 years after their first collaboration, on his latest film. Thaao Penghlis is not only a very famous television and soap opera actor, but he is also a writer, an author, and a podcast host, too. Thaao has been on several tv shows throughout his career with his big break coming in 1981 playing Victor Cassadine on General Hospital. He was also on the network television show, Mission: Impossible. Of course, he is best known for playing the dual character roles of twin cousins, Tony and Andre DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Thaao has appeared on the show on and off now for 5 decades and has won several awards in his career, including twice for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Leann is also a very famous and television soap opera actress that started in 1977 with an appearance on the tv show, Hawaii Five-O, and throughout her career she has appeared on many network television shows, including one I just saw again the other with a special guest role on an episode of Matlock in 1990 called, “The Talk Show.” Like Thaao, she is probably best known for her character on Days of Our Lives, Anna DiMera, which she has played starting in 1982. Just 4 years into her career on the show, Leann won an Emmy Award at the 13th Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She also starred in the hit tv series ‘Dynasty' for three seasons, one of my favorite shows as a teenager, as part of the infamous Carrington family. She also had major roles on the shows ‘Dawson's Creek' and ‘Gilmore Girls' too

Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 60 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by AwardsWatch Associate Editor Sophia Ciminello to discuss the next film in their Terrence Malick series, Days of Heaven (1978). Five years after delivering one of the best debut films of all time, Terrence Malick returned with an essential piece of art within his filmography, and one of the best films of the 1970s, Days of Heaven. Shot mostly in Alberta, Canada, Malick's epic follows lovers who travel to the Texas Panhandle for work harvesting crops for a wealthy grain farmer, only for the three of them to turn into a love triangle of biblical, spiritual proportions. While the shoot and edit of the film ran so long that additional editors and crew members had to be added to the film in order to get the film to the finish line, Malick was able to deliver a mesmerizing, lyrical cautionary tale about love, lust, greed, anger, desire, and finding your sense of freedom in a new world forming around. In other words, a masterpiece. Ryan, Jay, and Sophia breakdown their relationship with the film, the beautiful house built by Jack Fisk, the logistics of the locus scene, the film's incredible performances led by Richard Gere, Sam Shepard, and Brooke Adams, the troubled production of the film, the director's relationship with water, the insightful narration, if Malick's career relates to any other modern director, and how the film's ending full encapsulates all the themes suggested or mentioned throughout the film. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h16m. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 49 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by AwardsWatch contributor Karen Peterson to discuss the latest film in their Tony Scott series, Days of Thunder (1990). Four years after making the monster hit that was Top Gun, Tony Scott reteamed with Tom Cruise and producers Dom Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer to take their collaboration from the skies to the racetrack with Days of Thunder. After making Beverly Hills Cop II and Revenge (which are discussed briefly on the show), Scott was tapped to recreate the magic of his 1986 hit, this time with his leading man a bigger star and co-writer on the project, inspired by Cruise falling in love with racing, as well as the producers loving this new idea. While Scott clashed with Simpson and Bruckheimer throughout the production, the end result is an entertaining sports action drama with tremendous performances by Cruise and Robert Duvall, as well as the breakout role for Nicole Kidman. Ryan, Jay and Karen (the biggest Tom Cruise fan we know) discuss the film, their relationships to the sport of racing and their overall love of sports, Karen's favorite Tom Cruise movie, the overt boyish behavior the characters have throughout the film, if the ending/John C. Reilly side plot works, the racing scenes, the infamous wheelchair race scene between Cruise and Michael Rooker, and if this movie is better than Top Gun.
