Have you struggled with worry, stress, or anxiety? Today's guest, Caris Snider, shares anxiety coping skills. Caris is an author, speaker, and certified professional coach. She shares her own personal story of misunderstanding the struggle that many people experience with anxiety until she suffered herself. Caris examines the passage in Mark 14 showing how Jesus felt overwhelmed to the point of death while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. She encourages us to recognize how Christ understands our issues and demonstrates the way to reach out and get support from God and others. We discuss the divine prescription of reaching up and reaching out when we face emotional battles. Caris and I also talk about the different levels of support we depend upon in times of need. We often worry about burdening others, but if we share well with others we open an opportunity for mutual blessings. We discuss the importance of discerning the capacity of the vessels into which we pour our expressed needs. We can ask for prayer support from safe people in our faith community. If our suffering requires in-depth and longer sessions of emotional nurturing, a professional can respond most effectively and offer us a beneficial level of help. Caris recommends deep breathing exercises to help us pause and move from frantic thinking toward more rational thoughts. Snider also emphasizes moving from "what if" thoughts to "what is" mindsets. We discuss the counterproductive nature of trying to prepare for the worst-case scenario. Caris presents the helpful tip of journaling to empty anxious thoughts and replace the fears with truth. She suggests seeking scriptures to use as the replacement thoughts. Snider highlights the power of gratitude, citing the transformation she has witnessed after just a minute of focusing on gratitude. We discuss the holistic impact of praise and thankfulness. Caris explains the impact of self-care on anxiety coping. She lists the benefits of physical activity, limiting exposure to certain social media content, and getting adequate rest. Caris encourages listeners to practice healthy margins and learn to say, "no." We also discuss the impact of caffeine, hydration, and nutrition on our wellbeing. Caris and I emphasize discovering what works best for you. She encourages listeners to remain patient and persistent, not allowing comparison to steal their joy. Connect with Caris by visiting her website, carissnider.com. She is also accessible on social media (carissnider) or on YouTube. Her Anxiety for Elephants books, for adults or tweens, are available on her website, on Amazon, or through major book retailers.

Do you hold back expressing how you feel because you're afraid of what people might think or say? Have there been times when you get anxious or overwhelmed because you have something on your mind but are afraid to speak up? Are you hesitant to be your most authentic self because of what society might say? Today I want to talk about the importance of being vulnerable. By sharing how I actually feel, I take off all the weight on my shoulder an am able to clear my mind of whatever thoughts are in my head. Being vulnerable is absolutely crucial for my mental health and overall well-being. “Vulnerability is terrifying. The courage it takes to reveal your heart is one of the most daunting and yet rewarding experiences in life. It will set you free” - The Better Man Project Three Principles For Being Vulnerable (1) Humans deal with every emotion possible. Whatever wanted or unwanted emotions we're dealing with today, we must remind ourselves that it's okay and that this too shall pass in time. (2) Finding a medium to express our emotions is incredibly important. There is no right or wrong way to do it, what's important is that we find a medium that allows us to transfer these emotions out of your mind and body (3) Ignore the negativity that comes your way from being vulnerable. The best way to fight it is by keeping our head held high, expressing love back & letting opinions in one ear and out the other. During quarantine, it became a lot easier to snack more and exercise less. This lead to weight gain for some, what is now dubbed the “Covid-19” (pounds, that is). For others, this time at home was utilized to create better eating and exercise habits. Your own health and what you ate were some of the only things you could control during this time. However, some of my clients are experiencing weight gain now that things are opening up again. They wonder, “Why is this happening NOW and didn't before?” They want to know how to lose the extra weight and get back to their best habits again. In my podcast this week, I give you my three best tips to manage weight gain after the pandemic, so you can get back to feeling like yourself again in the new world! Click here to listen! Today's message is short and sweet. It's a reminder that you're not alone in this struggle that you're dealing with. Struggling is why we're here, and no one is immune. It's the struggles that help us become who we want to be. It's also a message of hope. I love this quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley: "It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future."

Feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. It's the big conversation at the moment. I'm seeing it in the people I'm coaching, the people I'm connecting with and I'm hearing it from colleagues in the industry. It seems that many of us that are feeling this way - and turns out there is a LOT of data that explains why. Research shows we've been working longer hours during COVID, but to me, this doesn't seem like anything new because certain industries and professions have always carried these expectations. Regardless this is something that we need to be paying attention to. The World Health Organisation has released a report stating that we are at a 35% higher risk of stroke and 17% higher risk of dying from heart disease when we work 55 hrs or more, compared to working 35-40hrs a week. So in this episode I want to share with you some of the research around why we are feeling this way, examine the science behind it and provide you with some ideas to manage your work life to reduce your feelings of fatigue, overwhelm and exhaustion. There are a lot of people out there kindly saying you are not alone, but when you actually feel alone this rarely helps. In this episode Rob shares some practical ways you can help yourself when you are struggling with your mental health. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being an entrepreneur can be lonely, you don't have management or a boss to rely on or support you. There isn't anyone you can reliably turn to, nothing really prepares you for that feeling. Successful people still have doubts. Everyone is hit by the curse of comparison sometimes. It's easy to not recognise how far you have already come and to be grateful for what you have achieved and what you already have in this world. When negative thoughts start to creep in, try and remind yourself and appreciate what you've got and who you have around you. Do you have people you can ask for help? If you don't then you need to take some responsibility for the people you surround yourself with. It's your choice who your support network will be when you need them. Everyone deserves to give themselves care and love. Your mental health is important. You have greatness in you, always remember that. On this episode, I am featuring an interview with Neelanthi Vadivel, operation manager and artistic director at Still and Moving center in Kakaako. Former Cirque du Soleil Performer and Artistic Director (for 11 years, more than 40 countries!), she shares her story and experience of this amazing career and success, and also the mental health issues she struggled with, alone in foreign country. How did she overcome the high's and low's? This month happens to be "Mental health awareness month" and this year's theme is "You're not alone". She shares exactly about that loneliness. We ended up talking for about an hour and 20 minutes (and I still wanted to ask more questions!) Having a Bad Day and wanting all the foods. (Has that ever happened to you? You're in good company...because God is still there during those bad days. You're not alone. Are you still reading this?) I seriously SHOULD have named this episode what I had planned to title it which was, "How we get out of God's will and STEP INTO our fat pants!" Because this very thing (the experience I share in this episode) is EXACTLY how I ended up being chubby in my 40's and STUCK. I would have given ANYTHING to have had ONE PERSON SHAKE ME AWAKE and tell me that God was the answer I was seeking. That JESUS is the way...even in weight loss. This episode is PROOF of him. Of His power. Of His might. Of what life can look like if you stop waiting to feel like it and START going deeper in your faith. If this episode has blessed you; would you please leave me a review? I need to know that I'm meeting my audience where they are and speaking to someone out there. As it stands right now...God is ministering to me and I HOPE AND PRAY that through my journey; he's ministering to you too! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
