The notice of the boycott condemns leadership's actions after five researchers were removed by police from its annual meeting in June. Significantly, The editors of ADA's flagship journal, Diabetes Care, have joined on in support of the boycott. "Manuscripts submitted will not be handled until the boycott is over," said Steven Kahn, MBChB, the journal's editor in chief and one of the five researchers ejected from the meeting in New Orleans, in a LinkedIn post on Thursday. Kahn told MedPage Today that "the journal boycott is like establishing a picket line. The boycott already has hundreds of signatures of people who have pledged to suspend all ADA-related activities, including: Planning or attending any meetings led by ADA leadership or the board, including the 2027 ADA Scientific Sessions Participating in board-led activities regarding the investigation of the meeting's events, or the report generated by the "so-called 'independent' committee" Engaging in all other ADA operations, including presentations, fundraisers, grant reviews, manuscript reviews, journal management, manuscript submissions, and position statements The boycott will remain active until the ADA board of directors permits an independent formal review of the organization's structure and function to ensure it "properly represent[s] its professional membership." Beta Bionics, Inc. announces FDA clearance of Mint, the Company's patch pump featuring a transformative reusable and disposable architecture that does not require recharging, integrates with industry-leading continuous glucose monitors (CGM) and enables smartphone control for iOS and Android users. The Company expects to initiate the full commercial launch of Mint in the United States in the first quarter of 2027 Mint is expected to launch exclusively through the pharmacy channel. Also announced, that Eversense 365 is now compatible with Beta Bionics Senseonics expects development of the Eversense 365-iLet integration to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2026. Commercial launch is planned following completion of integration activities in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to required testing, validation activities and applicable regulatory requirements. In preclinical studies, researchers developed an antibody that was able to target and eliminate specific immune cells responsible for attacking the pancreas's insulin-producing beta cells, while leaving the rest of the immune system intact. The researchers say the approach is especially promising because it could potentially reverse the autoimmune process soon after a type 1 diabetes diagnosis, rather than simply managing blood sugar. The work is still in the early stages and has not yet been tested in people; additional laboratory and preclinical studies are needed before human clinical trials can begin. sclerosis.https://hub.jhu.edu/2026/09/09/federal-funds-support-type-1-diabetes-treatment/ XX A new international consensus recommends routine screening for type 1 diabetes in the general population, offering the first framework for how healthcare providers could put widespread screening into practice. The guidance recommends screening children between ages 2 and 4, with children who test negative screened again at ages 6–8 and 10–15. Screening uses a blood test to look for islet autoantibodies, which can signal that the immune system is attacking insulin-producing cells years before symptoms appear or insulin is needed. Finding type 1 diabetes early can greatly reduce the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA, at diagnosis and may give people access to treatments such as teplizumab that can delay progression to clinical T1D. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/breakthrough-t1d-convened-paper-outlines-first-international-consensus-guidance-on-general-population-screening-for-early-stage-type-1-diabetes-302875788.html   XX Eating only between noon and 8 p.m. improved blood sugar control in a small study of adults with Type 1 diabetes and obesity, while avoiding an increase in serious complications. The promising findings offer the first evidence that time restricted eating could become another tool for managing the condition. For the study, Varady recruited adults with Type 1 diabetes who were also classified as obese After six months, the time-restricted eating group showed better blood sugar results than the calorie-reduction group. HbA1c, a blood test that reflects average blood sugar over the previous several months, fell by about 0.5% on average in the time-restricted group.   Couple of things here – very small study, only 32 people in total, who were then randomly placed in three groups with different styles of eating. Also, the lead researcher says this is the first study of it's kind for type 1 – which is obviously not true – you can do a quick google search or listen to past episodes of this show.. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/09/260909231740.htm XX A large Danish study found that COVID-19 infection was associated with a slightly lower, rather than higher, risk of subsequently developing type 1 diabetes in people under age 30. Researchers studied more than 2,100 people diagnosed with T1D and found an overall 16% lower risk following a documented COVID infection, with the strongest association—a 42% reduction—seen 31 to 180 days after infection. The reduced risk appeared primarily among people who had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, although researchers cautioned that the vaccination findings were less certain. Importantly, this was an observational study, so it cannot show that COVID infection actually protects against type 1 diabetes or explain what caused the association. Researchers say the findings conflict with some earlier studies and should be investigated in other countries and populations. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20260908/COVID-19-linked-to-lower-subsequent-risk-of-type-1-diabetes.aspx   XX   Semaglutide, a medication widely used for type 2 diabetes and weight loss, may also provide an unexpected benefit for people with asthma. New research presented at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress in Barcelona, Spain, found that semaglutide use was associated with a reduction in asthma attacks of nearly 40%.   The study was led by Professor Chloe Bloom, Clinical Associate Professor in Respiratory Epidemiology at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, UK, and presented by Dr. Bohee Lee.       Exploring GLP 1 Drugs and Lung Health   Dr. Bloom said: "GLP-1 receptor agonists are widely used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. Previous research suggests that they may have anti-inflammatory effects and may improve lung-related outcomes. However, asthma and COPD outcomes have not been included as outcomes in GLP-1 drug trials.   "We wanted to use real-world health records to investigate whether people with asthma or COPD who started GLP-1 receptor agonists had fewer acute respiratory attacks."   To investigate that question, the researchers analyzed electronic medical records from the UK. They carried out four parallel studies, each involving between 20,000 and 22,000 people who had started treatment with either a GLP-1 medication or a different type of diabetes drug known as a sulfonylurea.   The results suggested that people with airway diseases such as asthma and COPD who received GLP-1 therapies experienced fewer asthma attacks and COPD flare-ups than comparable patients who were prescribed other diabetes medications.   Semaglutide Showed the Strongest Effect   Among the GLP-1 drugs examined, semaglutide appeared to stand out, particularly for people with asthma.   Bloom explains: "The effect was strongest with semaglutide, especially in people with asthma, where use of semaglutide appears to be associated with nearly a 40% reduction in asthma attacks. Semaglutide also led to a 20% reduction in COPD flare-ups."   The findings suggest that people who already qualify for GLP-1 receptor agonists because they have obesity or type 2 diabetes could potentially receive an additional benefit for their respiratory health.   However, Bloom emphasized that the results are not enough to recommend these medications specifically as treatments for asthma or COPD.   She explains: "The findings from this study are encouraging, but they should not change treatment decisions on their own. People with asthma or COPD should not start GLP-1 receptor agonists specifically for their lung condition outside current prescribing guidance. While the findings suggest that some people taking GLP-1 receptor agonists may experience fewer respiratory attacks, this needs confirmation in clinical trials." https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/09/260909005155.htm XX XX A large study suggests women with endometriosis may have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers analyzed health records from nearly 3 million women in Utah and found those diagnosed with endometriosis were 46% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those without the condition. The association was strongest among women who had not yet reached menopause and those without obesity, a group typically considered at lower risk for type 2 diabetes. Certain forms of endometriosis, including those found outside the pelvic area, were associated with more than twice the risk. Researchers say more study is needed, but the findings suggest endometriosis may have health effects beyond the reproductive system and could eventually help identify women who may benefit from earlier diabetes screening. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/endometriosis-may-increase-type-2-diabetes-risk   XX MiniMed files FDA submission for it's first patch pump, with a planned launch next summer. To be called MiniMed fit, it would have a 300-unit insulin reservoir and would accommodate up to seven days of wear time. MiniMed also completed enrollment of a pivotal trial for a fully closed loop algorithm, which would calculate the amount of insulin a person needs throughout the day, even if they don't announce meals or count carbohydrates. Interestingly, on an investor call, the CEO acknowledged that CGMs have been their – quote – Achilles' heel for a very long time" and that their newest sensor has helped drive insulin pump growth. https://www.medtechdive.com/news/minimed-submits-new-patch-pump-for-fda-clearance/829313/ XX A new study based on national health registers in Denmark suggests starting statin treatment after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis could lower the risk of dementia, and it seems that the sooner patients did, the better. The research, published in The Lancet Regional Health, is an observational study, meaning it can find statistically relevant patterns at the population level, but doesn't necessarily explain what caused those patterns. The results, however, were interesting enough that the researchers, led by medical doctor Tummas Ternhamar of the Copenhagen University Hospital, are urging doctors to consider statin therapy when diagnosing type 2 diabetes patients. Alezander Zverev wins Family was at the heart of Alexander Zverev's U.S. Open triumph on Sunday as the German saluted the members of his inner circle and paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother for refusing to let diabetes define his future. The ​top seed beat American Ben Shelton 6-3 7-6(2) 5-7 6-2 at Flushing Meadows to finish a spectacular year at ‌the Grand Slams in which he proved his doubters wrong by going from perennial nearly man to two-time major champion. Shortly after his victory, Zverev reserved special praise for his mother Irina, a former professional tennis player, and credited her with ensuring type 1 diabetes never limited his ambitions in life. "When your 4-year-old son is diagnosed with diabetes and doctors in the office ​tell you that life and sports will be very limited for that child, it takes a very strong mother to ​say 'my son will be whatever he wants to be'," Zverev said. Okay.. our top story this week: XX Another indication for Mounjaro – the FDA approved it to lower the risk of major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events (MACE), including CV death, non-fatal heart attack, or non-fatal stroke in adults with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk for these events. Mounjaro – the brand name of tirzepatide - is already approved as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar in adults and children 10 years of age and older with type 2 diabetes. The approval was based on results from the largest and longest tirzepatide study to date, enrolling more than 13,000 participants across 30 countries over more than four and a half years. In the trial, Mounjaro demonstrated non-inferiority to Trulicity (dulaglutide), a GLP-1 treatment with established cardiovascular benefit, with an 8% lower rate of cardiovascular death, heart attack or stroke (MACE-3). The estimated hazard ratio for time to first MACE was 0.92 (95.3% CI: 0.83, 1.01) for Mounjaro compared to Trulicity (dulaglutide). https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fda-approves-lillys-mounjaro-tirzepatide-to-reduce-cardiovascular-risk-in-adults-with-type-2-diabetes-302862415.html XX The FDA approves the Libre Duo – the first device designed to continuously monitor both blood sugar levels and ketone levels in people with diabetes. The Libre Duo 10-Day Continuous Dual Glucose Ketone Monitoring System is now approved for those ages 2 and older. Until now, the agency said, people had to monitor ketone levels with separate tests that only provided a single measurement at one point in time. The new system combines blood sugar and ketone tests and monitors them continuously. Readings -- and alerts in case of dangerous trends -- are sent wirelessly to a smartphone app. The FDA previously granted "breakthrough device" status to the system, which is meant to expedite the device's development and review. https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2026/08/25/fda-oks-blood-sugar-ketone-monitor/5521787688375/ XX Diabetes tech firms Dexcom and Abbott are watching closely for a Medicare coverage expansion that could significantly broaden access to their glucose sensors. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is expected to expand Medicare coverage of continuous glucose monitors to people with diabetes who do not take insulin. Currently, coverage is limited to people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who take insulin or have a history of problematic low blood sugar. Dexcom CEO Jake Leach told investors in a late July earnings call that the company expects to hear back from the CMS before the end of the year, with coverage going into effect in mid-2027.     Dexcom presented results of a randomized, controlled trial earlier this summer at the American Diabetes Association's Scientific Sessions that it expects will support the CMS' decision. The 26-week study found that people who used a CGM had a larger hemoglobin A1C reduction than the control group and spent five more hours per day in a normal glucose range than the control group. https://www.medtechdive.com/news/dexcom-abbott-await-medicare-coverage-expansion-for-cgms/828775/ XX A new study suggests continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) may offer benefits for people with type 1 diabetes that go beyond improving blood sugar and reducing hypoglycemia.   Researchers analyzed health records from more than 8,400 adults with type 1 diabetes receiving care through the Veterans Health Administration. Over one to four years of follow-up, people who started using a CGM had a 10% to 16% lower risk of death from any cause compared with those who did not use one.   The association appeared strongest among people over age 65 and those who were not using insulin pumps. Researchers did not find meaningful differences based on A1C, race or ethnicity, or frailty.   Importantly, this was an observational study using medical records, not a randomized clinical trial, so it cannot prove that CGM use directly caused the lower death rate. But the findings suggest CGM may have important long-term health benefits beyond glucose management.https://visualize.jove.com/42319755-continuous-glucose-monitoring-initiation-is-associated-with-reduced-mortality-in-older-onset-type-1-diabetes-patients-a-target-trial-emulation-study-within-the-veterans-health-administration XX We've been talking about people without diabetes using CGMs for a long time.. now a new study weighs in. Research published in JAMA finds that this wellness trend isn't helpful for people without a diabetes diagnosis. They found that the strongest evidence for CGM use is for people who are already living with diabetes, but not for those without the condition who use them for wellness purposes. It's also worth noting, though, that this new study is a narrative review. This means that the researchers drew their conclusions from the findings reported in several other studies. More randomized controlled trials would be necessary to see whether there are any meaningful health benefits of using a CGM if you don't have diabetes.   Dower also warned that constantly monitoring your blood sugar when you don't have diabetes could lead to unintended health anxiety. In some cases, you may even make accidental lifestyle changes that could be harmful. "[Blood sugar] spikes may occur after meals, but if this leads someone to replace healthy food such as fruit with unhealthy food such as something high in fat but low in carbohydrate, the glucose information has done more harm than good," Dower said. https://www.verywellhealth.com/blood-sugar-monitor-for-people-without-diabetes-12058575   XX   Could metformin somehow influence the biological processes that drive aging? A new review found evidence that metformin may affect several key features of aging, including how cells use energy, inflammation, cellular damage and even some changes in gene activity. Animal studies have shown longer lifespans or improvements in markers of biological aging, while some human studies have also found promising results.   But researchers say there's still no proof that metformin actually slows aging or helps healthy people live longer. In rats, curcumin reduced inflammation, improved cellular signaling, and restored vascular health to levels resembling those of nondiabetic animals. The results hint at a possible new way to reduce the long-term cardiovascular risks of diabetes, but human trials are still needed. Curcumin, the natural compound responsible for turmeric's vivid yellow color, is widely studied for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/08/260824065543.htm XX New research estimates the number of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) worldwide will increase by 29% from 9.4 million in 2025 to 12.1 million in 2049. This will be presented at EASD, the Annual Meeting of The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Milan, Italy (Sept 28 – Oct 2 The USA will see an increase of over half a million, going from 1,492,825 to 2,055,235. The authors suggest that the reasons for the predicted high incidence and prevalence in 2049 in countries such as Australia, US, UK are likely to be a combination of genetics, environmental triggers and also high case detection rates (due to the good health care infrastructure here and in other HIC). Unlike previous estimates, the DIAMOND-T1D model takes historical patterns of insulin availability into account and aims to provide global, regional and country-specific estimates of T1D incidence, prevalence and mortality from 1900 to 2050. Although the majority of people with T1D live in high-income countries (HIC) and middle-income countries (MIC), the largest relative increase in the T1D prevalence is expected to occur in LIC as access to insulin, glucose monitoring and survival all improve in those countries. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20260828/Type-1-diabetes-cases-projected-to-increase-worldwide-by-2049.aspx XX Early initiation of statins after a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes was associated with a lower risk of dementia, according to a study published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe. According to the Lancet Commission, nearly half of dementia cases could theoretically be prevented by eliminating 14 risk factors. "Detecting and treating high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from midlife is one such highlighted risk factor," From Danish registers, researchers identified 132,585 statin-naive individuals who developed type 2 diabetes from 2006 through 2019, with follow-up until the end of 2021.   Medical records were searched for diagnoses of all-cause dementia. The company says it's experiencing "a period of intermittent supply due to increased demand. The company said the increase in demand is being driven by "broader market dynamics," but did not provide additional details. Sanofi said the situation is temporary and is expected to improve over the coming weeks. The company said Lantus U-100 vials and Toujeo U-300, which contain the same active ingredient, remain available. https://www.wral.com/news/local/common-insulin-pen-faces-supply-issues-amid-rising-demand-july-23-2026/ XX The University of Alabama at Birmingham startup TIXiMED Inc. has launched the next phase of clinical testing for a novel oral therapy for Type 1. For now called TIX100, a small-molecule drug designed to inhibit a protein linked to pancreatic beta-cell loss and diabetes progression. The new double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study will evaluate the drug's safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics. Researchers will enroll 18 healthy participants across three dose cohorts at a single United States study site. Participants will receive either TIX100 or a placebo twice daily for 28 days, followed by a seven-day follow-up period. Six participants making up the first cohort have been successfully enrolled thus far. In addition to its potential use in Type 1 diabetes, TIX100 may have applications in Type 2 diabetes and obesity. A recent study found that the drug prevented weight regain and preserved lean muscle mass after discontinuation of GLP-1 therapies in preclinical models. https://www.uab.edu/news/research-innovation/startup-advances-novel-oral-type-1-diabetes-therapy-to-next-phase-of-human-testing XX Researchers at the University of California San Diego say they have developed and validated a Continuous Health Analyzing Ring Module (CHARM), a compact, fully integrated wearable smart ring capable of continuous real-time monitoring of multiple biomarkers in sweat. The wearable device can simultaneously measure up to four biomarkers, including glucose, ketone, uric acid, lactate, ascorbic acid, and alcohol, to provide real-time insights into metabolic health. The study is published in Nature Communications. They say CHARM device contains all necessary biomarker sensors, low-power electronics, and a flexible battery. The left compartment of the device is designed to draw sweat passively using an osmotic hydrogel, a soft polymer that creates a pressure gradient to pull fluid from the skin painlessly. The sweat is then analyzed by multiplexed electrochemical sensor arrays within the same compartment, leading to simultaneous and real-time tracking of four biomarkers at a time.   The right compartment of the device contains a flexible zinc-silver oxide rechargeable battery that supplies power for up to 12 hours of operation between charges. Biomarker information generated through sensors is wirelessly transferred to a connected Bluetooth-enabled device for real-time display The findings indicated that the device performed well in initial temperature, cytotoxicity, and on-body compatibility tests. It also demonstrated high analytical accuracy in preliminary studies involving healthy participants and individuals with type 1 diabetes, highlighting its potential for non-invasive metabolic monitoring. The calculated estimated sweat-based blood glucose concentration showed a mean absolute relative difference of approximately 13.7% against its corresponding blood concentration values.   The device needs further validation in diverse clinical settings and across large diabetic cohorts.   https://www.news-medical.net/news/20260727/Prototype-smart-ring-tracks-multiple-sweat-biomarkers.aspx   XX Hotter weather and rising temps appear to increase the short term risk for low blood sugar in adults with type 1. An analysis of more than 32 million continuous glucose monitor (CGM) readings from nearly 700 adults with T1D in the UK showed a 26% greater risk for hypoglycemia at a temperature of 25 °C (77 °F) than at 13 °C (55.4 °F). Hypoglycemia was defined as a glucose level < 3.9 mmol/L (70 mg/dL). The study included 679 individuals with T1D and 32,966,282 CGM readings collected between February 23, 2017, and August 8, 2024. Participants had a mean age of 46.4 years and a mean T1D duration of 23.7 years. The researchers observed strong seasonal patterns, with lower odds of hypoglycemia in late winter and early spring, followed by a peak during the summer. The lowest risk occurred on Mondays. The odds then increased over the course of the week and peaked toward the weekend, with a significant odds ratio of 1.14 on Saturdays compared with Mondays. Increases in hypoglycemia were observed during both hot and cold weather, but the association was stronger for heat. These researchers used a Swedish national register of 43,440 individuals with T1D (mean age at cohort entry, 33 years; 44% women) Worth noting a couple of things.. the mean age in this study was 33 – so the people who were diagnosed under the age of ten would not have had access to current technology – no CGMs or AID systems. And while the study says it's 37% higher for the younger group, the actual rate was still very low. As always, I'll link to the study so you can learn more. The model performed well in early testing, but researchers say it still needs to be validated in independent patient groups before it could be considered for use in diabetes screening or clinical care. It did not assess clinical utility, patient outcomes, or quality of life. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20260729/Researchers-train-AI-to-detect-diabetes-and-assign-four-diagnostic-labels.aspx XX Trinity Biotech and Latch Medical are teaming up to explore combining CGM with precision drug delivery technology for diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic conditions. The companies hope real-time glucose data from Trinity's CGM+ sensor could eventually help guide more personalized treatment decisions and medication delivery. Trinity's CGM+ is still in development, with a pivotal clinical trial planned for later this year. https://www.drugdeliverybusiness.com/trinity-biotech-collab-cgm-drug-delivery/ XX The FDA selects Dexcom as the first participant in a new digital health pilot that will exempt certain digital health devices from FDA premarket authorization requirements while collecting real world data through a complementary Medicare program. Dexcom, plans to implement an artificial intelligence-enabled glucose health program through the pilot. The program is intended to help screen for prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes. The company plans to integrate data from its sensors, including its prescription G7 CGM and its over-the-counter Stelo device, along with contextual health information such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep and stress. The FDA announced plans for the Technology-Enabled Meaningful Patient Outcomes, or TEMPO, pilot last year amid a broader push for adoption of digital health and wearables. Beneficiaries can now access the MiniMed Flex and its latest sensor portfolio, which currently includes the Simplera Sync sensor, a disposable, all-in-one sensor with easy two-step insertion. The company plans to roll it out with the Instinct sensor, made by Abbott, later this summer. It also added Abbott's dual glucose-ketone sensor (still investigational in the U.S.) to its portfolio this year. The product includes four doses of the GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist, providing a month of treatment for obesity or overweight in one device. "It felt very isolating, like, as much as my family and my husband and everyone was there for me I just felt like, it's me on an island." She says she found an online community that's been helping. Multi-hyphenate actor, producer, writer, and director, Sarah Drew is best known for playing 'Dr. April Kepner' for nine seasons on the hit ABC series "Grey's Anatomy" and Hannah Rogers in Warner Bros' "Everwood". Hannah Schmidt competes in ski cross for Canada – she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12 years old.  Anna FarnSchadt Fernstäd a Czech skeleton racer diagnosed in 2022 after she'd already been to several Olympics. Instead, it allows people to look up their drugs and then navigate to buy them elsewhere, either from a major drug company or a pharmacy. The 43 drugs listed on the site have prices ranging from $3 to over $5,500. TrumpRx does include warnings that the site may not be the best option to save money on prescriptions. Each product page advises: "If you have insurance, check your co-pay first — it may be even lower." For now, the website says its prices are for people paying with their own money, rather than going through insurance. The only insulin listed right now is Lilly's insulin lispro – and it's the same price as you'd find through Illy's insulin value program. I looked up diabetes meds.. For example, if you have an insurance co-pay of $25 a month for Farxiga, a drug often used for diabetes, you would be paying $182 on TrumpRx. As you can imagine, though ,this is complicated and as with most of our healthcare system, it may be good in some cases and not much help in other.  I'd suggest calling your local pharmacist or checking with your human resource dept. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/health/trumprx-prescription-drug-prices-consumers.html XX Novo Nordisk will launch some doses of its oral semaglutide for diabetes under the brand name Ozempic pill in the second quarter of this year. The company said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Ozempic tablets in three different doses. Novo says The new Ozempic name is intended to help patients and health care professionals more easily recognize the available treatment options for type 2 diabetes Semaglutide tablets have been available under the brand name Rybelsus Ruh BELL sis for diabetes since 2019 but with different dosing. The pill is also approved to reduce the risk of certain cardiovascular conditions in adults with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk for these events. A recent study published in Science Advances described the application of subcutaneous microporous scaffolds. These are inserted and have been shown to  identify changes in cancer, multiple sclerosis, and T1D by capturing changes of immune cells over the course of a disease. This is a proof of concept study in mice.. so very early days. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20260204/Implantable-immune-scaffold-predicts-type-1-diabetes-weeks-before-symptoms.aspx XX A large global genetics study shows that many key drivers of Type 2 diabetes operate outside the bloodstream. In a major international project led in part by the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Helmholtz Munich in Germany, researchers linked hundreds of genes and proteins to the disease. The work, published in Nature Metabolism, points to a key challenge in diabetes research: the biology behind rising blood sugar does not play out the same way in every part of the body. It also shows why including people from many backgrounds matters, since genetic clues that stand out in one population may be faint or invisible in another. Huge study, 2.5 million people worldwide comparing patterns across seven tissues tied to diabetes and four global ancestry groups, then asked a simple question: what do you miss if you only measure blood? Across the seven tissues, the researchers found causal evidence pointing to 676 genes. Yet overlap with blood was limited: only 18% of genes with a causal effect in a primary diabetes tissue, such as the pancreas, showed a matching signal in blood. At the same time, 85% of genetic effects observed in diabetes-relevant tissues were completely absent from blood-based analyses. The findings lay out a roadmap for future research aimed at understanding the biological pathways underlying Type 2 diabetes and developing more effective treatments. https://scitechdaily.com/massive-global-study-rewrites-the-biology-of-type-2-diabetes/ XX Express Scripts settled the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's claims its insulin pricing practices violated antitrust and consumer protection laws, and agreed to changes aimed at lowering costs for patients, insurers and small pharmacies The settlement, first reported by Reuters, fits with that goal, and allows the FTC to pare down a case brought by the former Biden administration against Cigna's Express Scripts, UnitedHealth Group Inc's (UNH.N), Optum unit and CVS Health Corp's (CVS.N), CVS Caremark. The case against Optum and Caremark is ongoing. Pharmacy benefit managers, which set how drugs are covered by health insurance, have faced a decade of scrutiny from regulators and lawmakers over pricing practices. While the industry has already made reforms, the settlement gives the FTC power to enforce broader changes at Express Scripts. The 10-year agreement restricts Express Scripts' ability to engage in practices critics say contribute to high costs, like pocketing rebate payments from drugmakers based on the list price of drugs. Congress has passed bipartisan legislation to extend and strengthen the Special Diabetes Program (SDP), a cornerstone of Federal investment in type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. The President signed the legislation and it is now law. Extends the SDP through December 31, 2026, and increases funding from $160 million to $200 million annually. Strengthens overall funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by $415 million. Increases diabetes research funding at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) by $10 million. Created by Congress and administered by the NIH, the SDP has contributed nearly $3.6 billion to T1D research and has played a role in nearly every major breakthrough in the field. Expanded Smart Food Logging including a comprehensive nutrition database of more than 1M meals that provides a breakdown of calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, dietary fibers, and more. More ways to meal track including text search, barcode scanning or taking a photo of the meal, creating a seamless and intuitive meal tracking solution. A redesigned Daily Insights feature which will introduce a new interface with more personalized recommendations. The newest features will launch nationwide in the coming weeks.  XX Beta Bionics has received a warning letter from the Food and Drug Administration following an inspection last year, the company disclosed on Friday. The diabetes technology company said in a securities filing that the warning letter concerns non-conformities with the company's quality management system, medical device reporting, and correction and removals. The warning letter has not yet been posted by the FDA.   The company said in the filing that it has already taken actions to improve the processes described in the warning letter, and it is working on a written response to the FDA.   The firm does not expect the warning letter to affect the planned launch of a new insulin patch pump by the end of 2027. Beta Bionics unveiled a prototype of the device, called Mint, last year at the American Diabetes Association's Scientific Sessions. The documents show that Kamen visited Epstein's island, and remained in contact with him for years after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes involving minors. Kamen has not been accused of any wrongdoing. We told you about this recall late last year, these numbers are an FDA update.     Abbott said the sensors can provide incorrect glucose readings over extended periods, which could lead to users making dangerous treatment decisions, including eating excessive carbohydrates along with skipping or delaying insulin doses, potentially leading to serious health risks. With no Scripture, no audio resources, and no known believers, they remain one of the most spiritually isolated peoples in Southeast Asia. Though they have Scripture in their language, very few follow Jesus, and spiritual strongholds keep many blinded to the truth.
