Er ist Schauspieler, Synchronsprecher, Hörbuchinterpret, Synchronregisseur – und eine echte Legende in der Branche: Dietmar Wunder! Wenn Daniel Craig als James Bond cool „Geschüttelt, nicht gerührt“ sagt oder Adam Sandler seine verrückten Sprüche klopft, dann steckt dahinter – genau, Dietmar Wunder! Seit 2006 leiht er dem britischen Geheimagenten seine markante Stimme und sorgt dafür, dass wir Bond auch auf Deutsch mit Gänsehaut genießen können. Doch das ist längst nicht alles: Auch Hollywood-Stars wie Cuba Gooding Jr., Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell und Rob Lowe sprechen auf Deutsch mit seiner unverwechselbaren Stimme. Aber wusstet ihr, dass er ursprünglich gar nicht Synchronsprecher werden wollte? Als Kind hat ihn Sean Connery als James Bond so sehr fasziniert, dass er Schauspieler werden wollte. Als Synchronregisseur hat er große Kinoproduktionen betreut, darunter Blockbuster wie „Die Chroniken von Narnia“, „Miami Vice“ und „Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora“. Auch als Hörbuchsprecher begeistert er sein Publikum: In der „Millennium“-Trilogie von Stieg Larsson, der „Alex-Cross“-Reihe von James Patterson oder in den Thrillern von Jeffrey Deaver – seine Stimme zieht uns immer wieder in den Bann. This is the second of two episodes in which we look at films in which Denzel Washington is a lawman of some kind. We start with the 1995 neo-noir Devil in a Blue Dress, directed by Carl Franklin and co-starring the likes of Don Cheadle and Jennifer Beals. It's a period piece, set in post-WW2 California, and it deals with a man looking for a job but finding a mystery instead. “I don't think it's a question of convincing people or convincing the world. My biggest hurdle was convincing myself.” Anthony Mackie on role of Captain America Pivot Family, We are back in New Orleans like we never left! Sitting with NOLA's hometown hero who's Hollywood's new Captain America, Anthony Mackie, is sharing his rise to stardom in the film industry and taking us through how it all started and the challenges faced along the way.  This open-book conversation between the guys is hilarious, riveting and full of energy and insight as we learn the real story behind a young black man who grew up in Louisiana with big screen aspirations and wasn't afraid to be different to pursue his dreams.  Anthony's message about not just making it to the top but sustaining both status and respect in the industry may be unconventional as he tells the guys that success is given and not earned and that we've been lying to our youth by telling them differently. He explains how life is pushing past doubt, embracing opportunities, and finding the strength to carry the weight of something bigger than yourself while relying on relationships to find the next best thing. Being Black has yielded him certain experiences as well as taught him that having one talent or one dimension isn't enough to stay successful but needing an arsenal is what it takes.  He talks about the differences between working actors and celebrities, including today's new wave of names and how the landscape has changed with social media. Anthony admits he never thought he'd be given the role of Captain America but gets vulnerable about the self-doubt he had to overcome... not convincing the world he could do it but convincing himself he was worthy of the role and what it means to represent the character in a new era.  Reflecting on his New Orleans upbringing, Anthony tells Ryan, Channing and Fred how guys from “the hood don't do theater” but he found his calling early on through his elementary teacher who recognized his potential and helped him discover New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) which gave him a sense of belonging and further inspired his acting career.  Anthony shares stories and scenes that shaped him including what his rap battle with Eminem in 8 Mile truly signified, how he landed his role in Hurt Locker, how Don Cheadle inspired his craft and how having Denzel Washington as a mentor guided his career path by watching Denzel never be too big to do the little things that give passion purpose. Channing asks his Channing questions as he tells Captain America he's blown him away with a lot of his films but he didn't love his character portrayal of 2pac and also asks what led him to being ok playing a gay man.    Beyond the big screen, Anthony opens up about losing his mother and best friend as a teenager which was a dark time that ultimately pivoted him down a path to find light again and take acting more seriously. He also discusses the importance of masculinity, raising his four sons to be responsible men and instilling strong family values despite being divorced from their mother.   This episode is more than just Hollywood stories and laughs. Roll film! In Episode 23, DDSWTNP continue our White Noise residency by heading to the movies (or the TV screen) and examining Noah Baumbach's 2022 film adaptation of the novel. We discuss the drive over the years to adapt the supposedly “unadaptable” DeLillo for the screen, the 2020s context of this film, and our varied reactions to successive viewings of it over the two-plus years since its release. Other topics include the central performances (especially Adam Driver as an unexpectedly good Jack Gladney and Don Cheadle as a refashioned Murray Siskind); Baumbach's successes and failures at re-ordering DeLillo's dialogue and visually distilling certain themes; and his shaping of the narrative as a “meta-cinematic” journey through his personal film history and a mixture of genres. Reviews by Tom LeClair, Marco Roth, and Jesse Kavadlo figure in our analysis, and we close by considering whether we do in fact “need a new body” in the film's concluding supermarket song and dance number, which in our view captures some of the novel's themes and distorts others. Director Nabil Elderkin shoots music videos and films governed by vision, collaboration and diversity. While thematic similarities connect the dots between his projects, each video is different and a product of the stellar combination of the right artist, the right lighting, and maybe most importantly - the right feel. Growing up in a multi-cultural sphere, dictated by several international moves, led to an open-mindedness and an adaptability which did not hurt his transition into film. Surfing was the context which facilitated his portal in, and although he spent more time on the beach than in the water, the education he received, through direct exposure shooting his friends, was invaluable. His photography interest and experience developed further when he settled in Chicago, and came into Kanye West's orbit. Soon after, he started shooting music videos for a dossier for artists which continues to expand, and includes The Black Eyed Peas, Common, Seal, Bruno Mars, Foals, J. Cole, Travis Scott, Dua Lipa and Kendrick Lamar. For his work on Swim Good and Mercy, which feature Frank Ocean and Kanye West, respectively, Nabil received 3 VMA nominations, including Best Direction in a Video and Best Hip Hop Video for the latter. Among his feature films are the Ugandan breakdancing documentary, Bouncing Cats, and the gut-wrenching exploration of trauma - Gully - which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and stars Charlie Plummer, Amber Heard, Jacob Latimore, Terrence Howard and John Corbett. This week, every good team needs a greaseman, and boy do we have one, as we're putting a team together to knock down three Vegas casinos in one night, in a movie that is just as clever and funny as it is slick and stylish. It's 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh, written by Ted Griffin, and starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Carl Reiner, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin and Topher Grace. Soderbergh is clearly having a ball bringing this material to life with an all-star cast of capital-M capital-S Movie Stars, but the movie is more understated than its more dazzling sequels, and never loses sight of the human heart at its core that makes all the action matter in the first place. It's a beautiful film, visually and emotionally, and feels like the kind of adult-oriented entertainment that Hollywood seems hard-pressed to cook up these day. The feature film Unstoppable is the true story of Anthony Robles, who became an NCAA Champion despite significant social challenges and having only one leg. A model of what determination and hard work can achieve, Anthony's story is an inspiration for everyone. The film is based on a book Robles wrote along with Austin Murphy. The film features an all-star ensemble cast including Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña with Don Cheadle, and Jennifer Lopez. With the unwavering love and support of his devoted mother Judy (Jennifer Lopez) and the encouragement of his coaches, Anthony fights through adversity to earn a spot on the Arizona State Wrestling team. But it will demand everything he has, physically and mentally, to achieve his ultimate quest to become an NCAA Champion. In this episode, Robles explains his thoughts about seeing what he wrote in the book become a feature film. He discusses the issues his family faced, and how the film is about more than just his missing leg. He also revisits points in his life that were depicted in the film, and the challenges he faced while trying to pursue his collegiate wrestling career. He also spoke about his role in helping make the film and the reaction that he received from fans when he was wrestling, as well as the fan reaction he's received since the film was released.
