This summer I'm releasing bonus episodes of The Take Home. No new lectures on leadership, instead I'm sharing the amazing podcasts created by students in my Spring 2023 Leadership for Sport Professionals classes. Today's bonus episode features "The Captain's Chair" produced and created by Tucker Horn, Michael Somerville, and Gerson Amaya. In the podcast, they interview Colonel (retired) J. Craig Flowers (@JCraigFlowers) who served more than 25 years in the US Army, including three years in North Africa and ten years in direct support of the special operations community. His final military assignment was at West Point where he served as senior staff officer, Director of Cadet Affairs, and Assistant Baseball Coach Col. Flowers discusses why relationships matter, the value of international travel and engaging with diverse populations, and highlights the importance of getting honest, direct feedback from peers and followers. He also includes three important questions all leaders must answer: 1) What is your mission? 2) What are your values? 3) Are you humble? This is an amazing episode!! I know you'll enjoy it. I would be grateful if you'd let me know what you think at @TingleJK.

We don’t cross paths much, but when we do, Michael Somerville and I will always catch up - and DRINK! (I think I’m still hungover from our Vegas weekend back in February). From his first time on stage at Notre Dame to multiple Letterman appearances, we discuss how his friends talked him into becoming a comedian and hanging out in Vegas, baby!Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon and Pandora.Michael tried standup comedy on a dare while a student at the University of Notre Dame. He was soon emceeing Fighting Irish pep rallies and growing 70's style sideburns to do extra work in "Rudy". Upon graduation, he moved to New York City and took a job in advertising but, when his neck became irritated from shaving every day, retired to pursue comedy full time. His first job was dancing in a pink bear suit at a Bar Mitvah. He was hooked.Since then Michael has carved a unique niche in entertainment. A comedian, TV host, writer, advice guru, there isn't much he doesn't do. Michael wrote and hosted the reality show "Wingman", imparts humorously insightful advice on the Hallmark Channel and has performed standup on The Late Show with David Letterman four times.
